    is this how affirmations work? you are priming yourself? if one were a cynic and not very open to affirmations, would simply saying a list of positive words be an effective alternative?

      Seems like a case of mild suggestion to me. It might. Try it.

    So you basically psychologically manipulate your patients. Is this really good for them in the long run? Is this really therapeutic?

    • @arowace498
      @arowace498 Рік тому +1

      Manipulation has a negative connotation but it is not itself negative. Manipulation happens when you try to get someone to do something you want them to do. If the therapist wants a client to implement a practice which they believe will improve their self confidence, provide stability, or increase their resilience ect and it works then... yes, it was therapeutic. The client is ultimately in control of what changes they wish to implement and are not being made to do anything. But this also means that changes that come about from this are truly from the clients efforts and are beneficial to learn from even long after the initial suggestion.
      I am a client myself and from the client side I never took any suggestion as manipulation or to be something harmful. I have always been given the assurance that we are going to try this thing and see if it helps. But if it doesn't work it's ok. We'll talk about what did and did not work next time. I've definitely been a difficult client before but I try to do everything at least once...

    The most difficult clients I've seen were the ones half my age that were convinced they know more about how life works.
