Hello. Thank you so much for the helpful video. I’m in community mental health and part time private practice, and life coach. This video was so helpful. Sometimes I find I want to get all the things in one sesh but this reminds me to just slow down and focus on the vibe. So important. Thank you and I hope you have much success.
Hi I start next week my career as a therapist and all of my clients will begin as an intake. Feeling excited and nervous! I could definitely benefit from a treatment plan and diagnosis video refresher! I'm wonder if you have a video about that?:) Thank you!! Super helpful
Every approach is just tailored so well as a therapist and i can totally get how clients would feel after your session ends. I hope you come up with many more topics like these. Would personally love to know about clients with relationship issues and avoidant attachment style
Please post more please! Topics could deal with, Dealing with client resistance, what to do when a client ghosts you, dealing with different cultures competently...#futuretherapist Love this video, I've watched it twice!
thank you for the topic ideas, i plan on filming this week! i just posted one about a termination session if that interests you. im so glad it was helpful!!
I'm finishing my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in December and I'm weighing getting a Psy.D like you have, but what was your process of deciding to go that route? Maybe explain your motivation when you were thinking of going that route
Thank you so much for this valuable content and advice! ~ I am struggling a bit with how to manage asking questions in the questionnaires without destroying rapport with the client. (sigh)
How do you deal with folks who move from one therapist to the next bc of maybe the first visit seems like more answering questions and less venting. But if they keep doing this, the never get past the intake phase. Also for online therapy, often dont have the 15 min initial call, so just messaging maybe then x amt sessions per month.
so glad it helped! the EMR system you have will sometimes supply you with forms that you can edit to your liking. I'd suggest taking a look at your ethics code for your state to ensure that you have everything in those notes that are needed (i.e., date of service, diagnosis, etc) and to know how quickly you're required to get your notes in. also, if you work for a company or group practice, they likely have a policy / notes in general, but in private practice i usually rely on the ethics code for that (at least for psychologists, not sure if other disciplines are similar). another option is to chat with any colleagues or supervisors who have their own forms to see if you like those, too. welcome to the field!
Question: I’ve been seeing a therapist for about 4 sessions now and we’ve kinda just been doing “exercises” for them to get to know me but I came to him with a particular issue/ goal which I explained in the beginning. We haven’t touched on the goal really at all - I don’t know if he just needs to get to know me first? Is it appropriate for me to bring this up this soon? Would love any advice.
As a trainee therapist, I think this video was super helpful. Looking forward to more such content! Thank you!

I'm so glad you found it helpful! We all do these things slightly differently - it's always nice to see different ways to do it!

Hello, I am loving your videos, do you have any resources on doing the intake or other forms you may use to help with information gathering?
