The resistance to conformity is a direct result of a family and community defined by validation, loving-kindness, equity and human rights. We know the result when they are absent...we always knew.
I reckon you can drastically increase the percentage of subjects confirming to the group when you include a reward/punishment system for correct/incorrect answers. It can be something as simple as points for getting answers 'right,' or even praise from the person running the 'test.' Once you can imagine this happening in the experiement, extrapolate what can be done to the wider population.
That is very true. The Covid ‘vaccines’ were a perfect example of this. Remember the carrot they would dangle of being able to go back to sports events, bars, restaurants etc if you conform and take the shot? Remember the punishment of exclusion they threatened if you didn’t take it?
This is how we get social conformity, fads, trends, styles, etc. What was uglier than the platform shoes of the 1970's, yet so many women wore them because it was the style, "everybody wears them", etc. same for the ridiculous hoop skirts in the mid 19tc, powdered wigs in the 18thc, living in the suburbs, paying homage to current celebrities, the list goes on. Those who have the character to go their own way and be non-conformists, pay the price of ostracism. They knew what social distancing was way before Covid.
This experiment shows how people shape their values based on the values help by the majority in the society. Even though we might know that the majority is not right we'd still continue to approve their opinions in order not to be driven out from the society. We might have our own values and perceptions but we are simply afraid to express them in a society holding overall ones. What I think is that it is very important to be able to express our own perceptions. Yes, only very brave people can do that but those brave people are the ones who make changes.
It might sound cliche but I truly don't belong to that group. I'm say in my thing who likes it I do not care of they like it or not like me for saying it. My biological mother was the same too. Never censor or reduce yourself just to fit in .
Try the same test with rebellious individuals that are unusually self-confident and lack concern about conformity? Although even in that group, if enough rebellious people bond with other like-minded people, they may conform too. They may not. Some people do have a highly independent nature that are somewhat immune from group influences. Sometimes, I think people conform with such answers simply because it's easier and efficient. Why not change the stakes of this test. Add a monetary incentive to the questions. I bet you'll get more people that deviate from the group in order to win some cash for answering absolutely correct answers.
I think most of our knowledge and values are like this. Group delusion is a major threat to realize the truth. This is why you need Random Independent Uncontacted Blind Observers'.
They left out one of the most fascinating aspects of the study. They said only that people said what they did for "various reasons". The most fascinating is that many people reported that they *ACTUALLY BELIEVED* the obviously wrong answer to be the right one. That is a far more subversive effect of group think than merely 'not wanting to make waves'.
Is that so 😮 though.. I know a lot of people in my community who'd say the same simply because they're lazy and never use their minds when it comes to anything other than entertainment. Even a lot of my classmates were like this so i guess they'd genuinely believe the wrong answer would be correct because everyone said so
@@7isabee That's fine for things like, "who was the 4th president of the U.S.?" but for obvious things right in front of your eyes - to be tricked into actually believing an obviously longer line was the shorter one, is a level of suggestion that is really disturbing.
Excellent video! It also helps explain why when 10% of the population accept a new idea, the acceptance of that idea tends to dramatically increase (others with the same beliefs are no longer afraid of being alone in their opposition to the rest of the group mentality). Explains how Ron Paul's message of a return to a small, limited government, low taxes, individual responsibility, sound money & a general end to the welfare/warfare state went from 2% acceptance in 2008 to over 10% in 2012.
I would say yes! I remember when I was a kid and I witnessed other kids clearly bullying another kid... I did not participate, but I also did nothing, which in my mind was going along because I did not want to rock the boat. If I had been a more confident & mature child, I would have layed into those brats in an instant. But, it's easy to say that as an adult... this is why kids are kids until they are adults and need protection & guidance from adults.

@@n1ppe it doesn't have to be about lines or actors. It could be any topic and people interviewing you might just unanimously say the wrong answer as it was true. They could be sorting algorithms, chemical reactions, inductivity or whatever.
Alternatively, it would be a unique way of finding good propagandists to market your tyranny.
It's the camera. The camera is part of the PRESSURE. A group of men alone without OBSERVATION would be much different.
Good point.
LOL! When they all look down at him in a row. Priceless.
The resistance to conformity is a direct result of a family and community defined by validation, loving-kindness, equity and human rights. We know the result when they are absent...we always knew.
These are so true to human behavior yet peoples don't recognise it
I reckon you can drastically increase the percentage of subjects confirming to the group when you include a reward/punishment system for correct/incorrect answers.
It can be something as simple as points for getting answers 'right,' or even praise from the person running the 'test.'
Once you can imagine this happening in the experiement, extrapolate what can be done to the wider population.
That is very true. The Covid ‘vaccines’ were a perfect example of this. Remember the carrot they would dangle of being able to go back to sports events, bars, restaurants etc if you conform and take the shot? Remember the punishment of exclusion they threatened if you didn’t take it?
Still pure blood!
I'd heard about this, but not seen the film before. Incredible stuff.
POV: u do A level psychology
lmao
This video reveals a lot. It also shows it rather takes character than intelligence to perceive correctly.
2:40 look how quickly camaraderie forms between the correct answer players. so easy to form ingroup/outgroup thinking
And ALL of our politicians know these things. They train us like dogs.
It might sound cliche but I truly don't belong to that group. I'm say in my thing who likes it I do not care of they like it or not like me for saying it. My biological mother was the same too. Never censor or reduce yourself just to fit in .
Strength and comfort/safety in numbers. Pitiful
This is a fine example of what we observed in covid times. Instead of doing one's own research, we deferr to the "experts."
explains how life kicks of in 2020..
That’s the point… you are pushing the limits by showing incentives to them
This is how "Echo Chambers" are made.
People deny what they see with their own eyes just to be like others...shame on us.
Conditioning to ones mental state at a particular setting at a particular time will alter any scenario in the real world. Truth.
I watchec this video for my psychology homework. It is due in for 23 / 11 /2016

Realistic Fish Head ^
@@RealisticFisHed That was about 2 years ago lol. who caresss
Now the prof told us to watch this in the OB class loll
can you paste your homework here.. i would like to copy it..
This explains so much!! Thank you 😊
At least it was voluntary and experimental back then.
This is what’s going on now

Before I comment on a vid I firstly always look at the comment to check what other are commenting.
And you are right. Most people are sheeps and follow the heerd without even knowing it 🙈
Trust the government. It's the normal thing to do.

2020, Covid-19.. this is exactly what’s happening.
You called it two years ago and now people are on their 5th booster.
Informational and Normative Conformity. I'm a Sociology major who needs to remember his vocabulary.
Im glad I am a lone wolf which is fortunately due to my introverted personality.I will lose my self awareness if I am stuck with a bunch of sheep.Ridicule me but I love the solitude of my own company,I feel at peace. and no I am not sad or a people hater even though I do like animals way more lol.

As I noticed, the same is happening to "Baby" as a behavioral phenomenon called "Social referencing", and it seems to be that ( We are all "Hardwired" to this behavior as an essential survival-skill )
Because and as default settings, we are all pursuit happiness and avoiding pain.
Influencing this behavior toward getting a particular result, is like using the "Backdoor" of that psychological-system.
But, In my point of view, the behavior itself is an essential and powerful survival-skill.
It's a "feature", not a "bug" 😁🧐
Yep so true, I reckon. Unfortunately the instigators of propoganda are well aware of this. So whats the antidote to all this?
