I love a vintage 29 (44) or 28 (357) with pinned barrel and recessed cylinder! Can't beat the classics when craftsmen took pride in their work!
Been emailing S&W with current sale prices off Gunbroker. Pinned barrels out sell new every time. Still trying to get S&Wto drop the hillary hole.
This guy is a legend. I could listen to him all damn day.
ole dead eye hickok ,this channel is great
Same here! Im learnig English without school only UA-cam, trying to learn the best i can about guns and English. I can spend a whole month with hickock just talking and shoting! Sorry for my bad writing!
Better than any network TV!
I agree, been watching him since 2009.
Yeah so basically it's a legend firing a legend.
Those 29's, 27's & 28's from back in the 60's & 70's are probably the finest S & W ever made.
My m29 4 inch is my favorite handgun.
My Favorite also.
Absolutely
This guy is an excellent shot. To have that kind of accuracy with so many different types of firearms is impressive! Especially when he's hitting targets out at a hundred yards with pistols.
Hickok is one of my favorite Shootist!
Marksman?
I imagine we could be as good if we put in as much practice as this gentleman does.
I have always thought a person should have the right to own and carry a gun. The weird thing is I never owned or even wanted one up until about 9 months ago. Watching Hickok45’s channel has definitely made me a fan. I have learned a lot from watching him. Thank you
enjoy the world of shooting friend. And the world of trying to pick out what your next gun will be, the struggle is REAL!
Michael Bellar It is a pleasant experience to watch someone do something they enjoy. I try to shoot monthly, but when I watch one of Hickok’s videos it makes me want to go and enjoy my own firearms.
John Schliesleder I’m Game
It's OK being able to own a gun as long as you don't shoot people with it, as I understand here in the UK people get a gun licence to use the gun at a gun club. The licence doesn't then allow them to use the gun outside the gun club, the gun stays at the club securely locked up. Unless it's a shotgun etc for example to be used for huntung shooting rabbits, pigeons etc. But I don't think you could justify owning a hand gun such as 44 magnum to shoot rabbits for example
@Kit Carson You do, you just took the time to respond.
FOUR INCH MODEL 29 .44 MAGNUM, my very first gun. Still have it 30+ years later.
My first also still have too
@Nick Smith awesome!
another one here - sort of - Model 58 bought it new in 1972, about $150 I think.
Have the same gun, 63 vintage. Favourite loads are 240gr.cast with 5 grs bullseye, or 8.5 unique.
I have a 357 Magnum Model 686 4" barrel White outline Brushed that I've had for over 40 years, although I sold a 357 Magnum Mod 66-2 brushed 6" barrel for the same price as I'd paid over 10-years after purchasing it. It was bought by an Okaloosa County FL Deputy Sheriff. We also used that 686 with the Sheriffs Law Enforcement Posts, because all of the deputies at the meeting were carrying were automatics, and you can't show the difference with a pistol. I took one of the deputies out to my truck opened the tail after turning off the alarm system and unlocked the gun case and allowed the deputy to see what I had with me. We took the weapon back into the SO's office and then let the Advisor see the weapon and then show the cadets the differences. But it surprised him and the 10 other deputies at that meeting. One of them bought that model 66-2. The one comment was the trigger wasn't touchy enough. My comment was I didn't want a hairline trigger on any weapon. Yeah, I also have a G Lock Mod 19 but prefer the 686 to it.
Got my 44 mag 4" in 1976 from Mel Rogers gunsmith who before he retired was a treasury agent but more importantly a World Champion Shooter in the 30'S thru the 50'S taught me alot I reloaded 22 grains of 2400 with a Keith 250 429421 round or 17.5 grains of same load but I've sinced retired it and it's 6 1/2" brothers. Blued and nickeled twins.

Happy little pots!
Happy little soda bottles, and every gun being talked about needs a friend
He’s great really
Perfect 😂😂
Man that's a beautiful wheel gun. Those grips are something to behold.
Those factory 'football' grips are expensive! Try finding a set, whew!
Hey this was filmed on my birthday! Happy birthday to me!
I've always been so attracted to 44s. I'm not much on the mega calibers like 500 S&W though. Seems like a 44 mag would accomplish anything you would need it to. We appreciate you guys!
Oh come on who need's wrists
Had a Model 29, 6" years ago (80's). Now I am lovin' on my Model 25-5, 4", and 25-7, 5", both in .45 Colt. Dressed 'em up with bird's eye maple grips from Badger Custom Grips. They are things of beauty! Shoot safely, my Friends!
Thank you Mr. Hickok for everything that you do for this community.
Crazy old man !!!

Thank you, Hickok, for this wonderful video.
Those older, P&R’ed, N Frames that Smith produced through the early 1970’s were, in my opinion, the finest generally available and largely affordable revolvers ever made. Their quality, craftsmanship, reliability, durability and accuracy are superb. And they remain entirely viable for so many purposes (home defense, concealed carry, hunting, target shooting, and plain enjoyable plinking). I don’t own a M29 from that era, but I do love my five-inch barrel M27-2 (.357 magnum/.38 Special). FWIW, I really prefer the five-inch barrel length; it’s still short enough to be handy and concealable (at least in the colder months), but that extra inch provides slightly more velocity, sight radius, and recoil mitigation. Further, it’s an optimized length between purely defensive and hunting revolvers.
I envy your M29. Cherish it and fun with it.
I was given my grandfather's model 29-3 44 mag and love it.
Fantastic! What barrel length?
@@marcusrussell8660 why bring that up at all?
The muzzle control at 0.44 made my day. No, my DECADE! Superb, as always.
He's always been incredibly careful with his guns, I respect this man a lot
I carry a SW model 686 stainless 4" barrel w/speed loaders
I carry a SW model 686 stainless 4" barrel w/speed loaders
The wood on that is gorgeous!
I was lucky enough to buy all three. In the Clint Eastwood days back in the 70's. 4 inch,6 inch and 8 3/8. I would never sell any of them.
Thanks for the video, one of my favorites is the S&W44 mags. Got a 629 4", awesome weapon, and thanks always for your courteous muzzle awareness, some guys point it at the camera without regards to a camerman whether he's there or not, I'd prefer the gun to be handled as you always do. Thanks again Hickok and John.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Almost 30 years ago I bought a Model 29 Silhouette with the 10 5/8" barrel at the very end of that model's production run (delivery in January 1992). It remains my absolute favorite gun to shoot.....and magnums are not bad in it.
Only problem with having the same gun just in a different color, is you can't get mad at the wife for wanting another pair of shoes she already has, but in a different color.
Sure you can a shoe is not a need it's a privilege to be able to wear shoes guns are to defend your life and others and is a useful tool
Don't ask, don't tell. Been married 38 years and works for us.
Helps if you're single! I wouldn't trade my wife for my guns, but now that I'm a widower, I'm going to treat myself.
You can have all the guns you want, when I'm not shooting them. But leave my shoes alone. ;)
Eric Yeah, but then there’s the purse to go with the shoes and then the dress to go with the purse......
Your the man, one of the reasons I started my UA-cam channel! Keep it up and never slow down!
I love the model 29. I also love the 4 inch blue. They are gorgeous. That pistol and caliber can accomplish anything that could reasonably be expected from a handgun. The model 29 is just about perfect. Thanks for the video
I have the model 25 in .45acp. The most accurate .45acp I've ever shot.
I concur. This is my all time favorite wheel gun.
@@dbmail545 I use to own one as well, and I agree. Haven't seen another one since I sold it many years ago.
Sasquatch killer !!!!
I enjoy listening to him and his experience in this field. We are fortunate to have him around to teach us a thing or two. My kids love it.
My favorite revolver of my collection is my 29-2 4” barrel. I bought it in 1981, still shoots like a champ. Best trigger pull of ALL my revolvers! 😁
So I been eye balling a magnum 586 and contemplating buying it this week. Then I get a notification just now that hickok posted a new video of this beauty.......Damn devil!
The extra holes help a burn barrel :)
They're speed holes
More holes for it to breathe out of
Always a pleasure watching your videos. I'm jealous! I passed on one of those a few years back. Eventually I ended up with a Ruger Redhawk Hunter. I still regret passing up the Smith. After watching your videos l am a big fan of the .44 special and handload a ton of them.
Also, the thing I LOVE about Smith's, especially the 70's and early 80's guns, is they have a wonderful double action trigger. The '2 click' trigger, you can almost stage it, and line up on your target. Now, if your good, you get get real fast and accurate with the double action pull. Try it. Get your Smith out(make sure it's unloaded)and slowly pull on the trigger! Doesn't get any better than those Smith's.
Beautiful piece you have there, Hickok! 👍👌👊
Hoping to add an old school Model 29 to my small collection in the near future. 💘
I just picked up a blue 4” Pre-model 29 from 1956. The 4” barrels are a tad rare but the 5” barrels are even more rare.
You one-upped me, picked up a 6.5" blued no dash 29 a while back.
I am picking up a pre-model 29 five screw from 1956 in 6 1/2 inch barrel tomorrow, Hickok is right, those 4 inch barrels are quite a bit harder to come by.
Mr. Cong love mine
They sure are beautiful firearms. I have enjoyed range time with my 4" 44 mag. But on a high humidity - high temperature day last summer I found that I could NOT properly control the recoil with my sweaty hands. I ordered gloves at the end of that day. Much better.
Thanks again, Hickok45, for all that you do for our shooting community.
Excellent video. I have the exact same Model 29-2. Mine was made in 1970. Accurate and smooth. My younger range friends do not appreciate such a fine firearm.
Yes! It's a great day every time you upload a 44 mag video.
I think my next purchase will be the 6" version of this gun, because I believe every man should have at least one Big Iron on his hip.
You might want to consider the Model 29 with the 6-1/2 inch barrel, not the six inch model. TRUST me on this! You won’t regret it. Got one for Christmas back in 2018; never saw so many “green” eyes at the shooting range in all my years! 😁👍🏽
Very nice Marty Robbins reference.
Yeah, everybody wants the "dirty harry" gun, so they are very pricey compared to the other barrel lengths.
Just got my hands on a 629 4 in. from 2012 that was never fired after the factory. I am looking forward to breaking her in. Thanks for all of the great content you create. Blessings on you and John and your family.
The blued 29-2 with the counterbored cylinders in 4" was my favorite, I had added Pachmayr grips much like Nick Nolte had in "48 Hours". It was a dream to shoot, the 180gr Rem.HP threw fire for about a block, I used HSM 250gr magnums for qualification, because 44 special were almost twice the price of magnums, and I had to supply my own ammo as the gun was non-issued. It got stolen from my brother's car in the mid 80s. He bought me an Elmer Keith commemorative, which I have yet to shoot, as a replacement.
My 28-2 is a 6 inch and it really tames the 357, although today's ammo is much more tame than that of the 1980s. If I could get that gun back...
44 special or 44 magnum, love how you say those guns, you put a little love in those words
The Model 29 is the one revolver I would buy, especially the blued finish. Good video, thanks.
Ohhh meee tooo.. It's THE revolver.
I bought a model 29 with a 4 inch barrel.
I didn’t know that someone had sprayed it or treated it with something black!
I am not happy with it.
I should have looked it over better at the pawn shop.
I will sell it for $500.00

Call me and we can workout shipping .
I have a 4 inch 629 no dash, and lighter cast bullet loads are still a pleasure to shoot with arthritic hands. The hot loads are just too much these days, but I won't quit shooting my favorite Smith. Those light loads allow me to still have a little fun on the range. Thanks for a great video !!
I just took delivery today on almost the exact same gun, Model 29-2 4" barrel, high polish bluing, just beautiful. And yeah, I paid a decent hunk o'change, but I don't care, because it'll only go up in value, as nobody goes to the trouble to make them like this anymore. Thanks Hickok 45 for illumination and education.
I've got one exactly like that one in the original wooden case. But I cannot shoot .44 Mags any longer (too old). So I'll switch to -44 specials and shoot it a few more years.
If you ever want to sell I'll give it a good home. Just give me a heads up. I have the 629 talo edition in 2 inch barrel , it demands respect, but is very accurate, I would give a fair price.
James w Mallory , I have a 4 inch model 29-2 for sale. Need to get $550.00 for it.

Shooting full power .44 Magnum loads out of my 4" Taurus Model 44 IS indeed fun....with the factory porting/comp. chamber. It's actually controllable.
@Craig Wooldridge No, it's because I have enough personal experience with Taurus to cut through the brand snobbery and misinformation that interweb fools repeat.
I have several $1000+ guns that others may not appreciate. Some are muzzleloaders. So, I'm not against spending more to get what I want, but I passed up a (cheap) unfired 4" 629 for $700 and gave $535 out the door for my Model 44.
I've shot mine enough to know that i made the right decision for what I wanted a 4" .44 Mag for...and I'd make the same choice every time.
There's nothing WRONG with the S&W, there's just not enough to be gained to make it worth the extra $$$ to me...and I'm not buying guns to make money on them.
I'm buying guns I want to keep and shoot.
I really want that gun but in 6inch. I have the Taurus 66 and love it!
Craig Wooldridge what a douchebag.Have fun spending 700 bucks on a gun, tauruses are 1/2 the price and well worth the money. I have a glock 17, Taurus g2c, ruger LCR and i would carry any of these guns any day.
@@adamarens3520 So far so good. All of the nine Taurus firearms I've owned in the last few years have been reliable and accurate.
The two I own now (605 and Model 44) are solidly IN my collection with no danger of being sold or traded.
I'm very happy with them.
I've carried this Model 44 almost every single day since I bought it, and it's has quickly became one I would not part with.
@@MegaDysart I have tried three Taurus hand guns. All were unreliable for a variety of reasons. Fix one problem another developed. Dealer said that was the nature of Taurus. I wouldn't have another if they were free. I am, however, glad you had better luck with yours.
I have a 6-inch 629 and I must say "Love it." Very accurate!
You've read my mind. Jedi mind tricks. I was re watching all your old 44 mag videos waiting for a new one. I got my own 29-2. Nickel 8 3/8" 🤘
I have a 6.5" 29. Great revolver. You can do so much with hand loads with a 44.
My dad had a S&W just like that. One of the first firearms I ever held and shot.
38/ 357 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@jimmysapien9961 oh yeah! My S&W 9mm is beautiful. I love the safety mechanism.
I have a 29 - 3 and a 29-6, but both have 8 and 3/8 inch barrels. That's all I've deer hunted with for several years now. Great video! I love it when you shoot guns that I have.
Hickok45 is phenomenal, he just taught me that a 44 mag shooting 44 Special is considerable easier to manage the recoil which leads to improved acuracy. I have been shooting my .357 Ruger LCR with full on magnum rounds, my hand gets bruised from 15 rounds to the point I put it up and shoot one of my other weapons. I will still load pistol with magnum rounds as I carry it concealed however, I will buy some .38 special to practice.
Thank you 45
Beautiful old revolver! I have a 4" model 629 but I've never owned a blued 29.
I really like the .44 special. Almost a ballistic clone of .45acp and .45LC. Proven manstopper.
I am a big fan of the .44. I have several in both .44 special and .44 magnum, including a blue 4" S&W model 29-2. There is such a variety of bullet weights and styles for the hand loader to choose from. The 4"model, as you pointed out , can be quite painful to shoot with full power loads. However, with slightly reduced loads with lighter bullets can be very pleasant to shoot and still have plenty of power for hunting medium size game, such as hogs and deer. 240gr lead semi-wadcutter bullets loaded to about 900fps are a delight to shoot. Thanks for another great video.
My Dad (physician) carried a Model 29 with a 4" barrel. He got it a a gun show in Columbia S.C. I think it was 1961. A great revolver. He even sewed up the holster. He traded several handguns for it.
Happy Sunday gun day hickok45!
I have it's twin, beautiful revolvers. I regret selling my 4" 629 no dash, those are so rare.
You didn't make a mistake.
The no dash 629s would shoot loose with a lot of magnum loads!
When S&W came out with the S&W 29-4 they finally had the lock work strong enough for shooting a lot of magnums.
But earlier S&Ws are fine if you don't shoot a lot of .44 magnums and shoot loads equivalent to hot .44 Specials
Cheers
Hey, I have a Mod 29-5 8 in. barrel, this gun is dead on,sent it back to S&W, new barrel, cylender, trigger job, this gun shoots like new, and looks like new, so thank you for all of your on point instructions, Now you be safe, and watch where you put your nose, lots of bad stuff out there , Thank You BB
I have a Model 29 in nickel, 8". It's fun to shoot with lite mag's or spl. My favorite Revolver to shoot is my late wife's Model 624 stainless in (44 spl), she named it sweet pea and it is. Every round puts a smile on my face for several reasons.
I find the illusive the exact opposite in my region. I have the 4" blue but cant lay my hands on a 4" nickel. Love the videos, Guys
You, my friend are an absolutely amazing shot!
The quality of the bluing is stunning, the grips are beautiful, and it’s pinned and recessed. Wish they still made them like that.
I carried a 4" 29 for years in Northern MN on camping trips. Don't remember what happened to it, I carry a 4" .357 or a 1911 10mm these days. They get the job done when I'm doing chores or out for a walk. Thanks for the video.
owning the gun is freedom... definitely~!

What a beautiful handgun. Hickok makes everything right. But we do need to fight for our freedom and rights like he says. Thank you Hickok 45 for opening my eyes agan about guns and gun safety.
I love the revolver videos! Especially the 44 magnum!

It is a great gun. I bought mine in the 70's.
I owned one of these in the early 1980s... short version: as dusk approached on a dirt back country road, a buddy razzed me about the ridiculously short barrel and said he bet that I couldn’t hit a softball sized rock at about 30 yards down the old road. A quick draw later, a HUGE ball of flame and super-thunderclap shattered our senses! Once our vision was restored in the almost dark road, I was pleased to point out that the aforesaid rock was gone... all in primitive hand signs as it was an hour until our hearing was back to normal. I sold it the following week... I still had my 12 inch heavy barrel in .44mag, and loved shooting it... during the day... and while wearing hearing protection!
After just buying back my Smith and Wesson Model 27-3 and seeing this video it looks like my next Smith will be a 29-2. Thank you for all the great videos and the humor. I hope you keep that one in you collection
people who dislike a hickok video should be required to identify themselves, so we all know who to avoid.

avoid all democratic douche bag liberals. Done. That was simple. Calling them out is a communist thing to do loser.
Hopefully 2019 is the year I'll finally acquire a big-bore 44 Smith. I've got my .38s and .357s, but there's something alluring about that infamous .44!
Hope you got it! Only a few more days left in 2019!
I fully agree with Hickok on the 44 special. I purchased a 44 mag back in 1975 and I would say that at least 98 percent of the rounds I fired from it were .44 specials. I love that cartridge. Pleasant to shoot and accurate. I've always handloaded my ammo so the price doesn't bother me. Firing a .44 mag as well, A total winner.
Thanks for your knowledge of firearms most likely the wisest gunner on UA-cam, my dad hates guns. so your son John is a blessed son... after all that blowing smoke thanks again H. 45. we all appreciate you.

I just picked up a blued 29-2 with a 6.5 inch. Paid $1200. It hurt but I had to buy it. Does that sound within reason?
Damn.... his son must be lucky to grow up with such an awesome dad....
I'm down to one 629 4" now and one 624 4" and 1 625 Mountain Gun 45 Colt. I'm in the process of being phased out. Those aren't my only handguns but they are the ones I love most, along with my M28 4". Today I'm going back and watching my favorite hickok45 videos and of course they are all S&W N-frame revolvers. Hope I can get back to the range again before long.
Great vid on a genuine classic!!! I love .44s and enjoy reloading for them. I know it's not best to post actual loads, so I won't. That said, generally speaking, a hard cast (wheel weights), gas checked RCBS 225 grain Keith style semi-wadcutter at 1050 to 1100 fps is a mild shooting load that has be very accurate for me with plenty of power for everything except big game. Thanks for all you do - one the THE best gun channels on UA-cam!!! - Ray, in Colorado
Probably the best country song I’ve heard.
I saw smiley on that gong. Just about at 10:06. :)
Congratulations on your beautiful new vintage model 29! What a beauty! I know this will be sinful to a Smith lover like yourself, but one of my favorite handguns is my 4.2” Ruger Redhawk. I tend to shoot a lot of magnums so I appreciate the extra beefiness & heft of a Ruger. Smiths are beautiful though.
Some company used to sell a 44 mag "medium load" . It was a hard cast lead bullet at about 1150 fps.
It came in 50 round boxes at a reasonable price. I used to buy it to get brass for reloading.
Lots of fun to shoot.
That little shotty there with its powerful round, is all that one needs...from living way up north around bears, to way down south defending the family from bad guys. The 44 special is a bit more powerful than a .45 ACP round, and its big brother The 44 Magnum is in a class by itself.
Actually .44 special is pretty much a ballistic clone of .45acp. 240gr pill at 850 fps vs 230gr at 850 fps.
@Jones: The overwhelming majority of S&W .44 Magnum, .41 Magnum, .45 Colt, .45 ACP, and 10mm revolvers are produced on near-identically N Frames. J, K, L and N Frames are used for .357 Magnum revolvers.
so I guess all the old Cowboys knew what they were doing they carried 44s
When I started in law enforcement almost half a century ago we had to buy our own firearm and leather. I purchased and carried a 29-2 and loved it. I kept it loaded with .44 specials for normal carry. I wanted something with stopping power but wasn't too abusive to shoot. I also carried some .44 magnums in speed loaders for special issues like road blocks and barracaded suspects. Many other deputies where I worked prefered the good old Colt 1911 .45 acp for its stopping power. I was partial to a revolver.
I'm with you on the wood grips and blued finish. Just makes that classic style
Mine is a 29 Mountain Gun. The tapered barrel is just a little more gorgeous...but more recoil. Let me know if you want to try it out.
I too love the Mountain Gun series. The tapered barrel is like the earlier S&Ws.
The S&W 625 .45 Long Colt is one of my favorite Perfect Packing Guns.
Also the S&W model 27 .357 magnum with a 5" barrel is also one of the most beautiful revolvers next to the Colt Python.
Cheers
Pinned barrel. Nice.
Had me a Performance Center Model 29. It was Gorgeous. I got strapped for cash and sold it. Though I didn’t have many rounds through it when I let it go, I still miss it. Firearms are one of those things you try Not to let go of, but the ones that you do you don’t forget.
I own a lot of revolvers and the 4" 29-2 is by far my favorite.
My dude hickock straight up shot a man for smoking.

Try to find some 'cowboy' competition loads at your local gun show. The .44 mag cases will keep your cylinder clean and you'll still enjoy a light load.
Red Car Good idea! Thanks!
