If your going to make swords than give them more of a handle to hold onto when striking something. If you dont under stand go out side and strike a tree with that thing and see if it doesn't come out of your hand .

Feel like you could have made two knives with the material you had available. Just needed to split that bar lengthwise and use that hammer to draw out the edges. Would have saved you a lot of effort with the grinder also.
