I love how the aromantic character has a flower-which is usually like a sign of romance- but the way it's presented, it seems like they're just enjoying the world around them and i love that :D
Most colored flowers mean something else others then romance, yellow means hatred or the relationship won’t work out. Green means rebirth and renewal. But I do like how the flowers look in the art really nice 💚
flag discourse is quite literally the stupidest thing I've ever seen anyways to quote someone i saw elsewhere, it's like Italy was mad at France bc their flag is the same recolored
@@ha_des fair, but sometimes flags have "hidden meanings" or whatever or were created by bad people so sometimes the community is picky about supporting them (though it's a lot at times so that point is 100% valid aswell)
Another clever bit of symbolism i noticed with the Aro flag: A typical way in media to show someone having a crush on another person, is to have them pluck petals off of a flower and alternating between "loves me" and "loves me not" as kind of a way to see if the person likes them back An aromantic person would obviously have no interest in that, so having the character hold a flower with all its petals intact feels kinda fitting :D
When I was a kid, I was really confused because I didn't know aro was a thing, so I did that, but reversed the role to just decide "do I love them or are they just a person I want to draw" thing lmao
It's not a coincidence she is in your house seeing everything you do and making your ideas Lock your doors Block your windows Even escape She has a watergun to my head as I type this please help me
I love how each group is reacting differently to their flags Lesbians- "I love the new redesign" Aro- "omg! Representation!" Gays/other LGBTQ- "oooo pretty" Trans- MOTH
Main reason why I like the sunset lesbian flag is because there seems to be more contrast, making it eye-catching. I'm not a lesbian, but I can appreciate the efforts made into this, looks great!
Love the aromantic flag, the flower also hints at the "loves me, loves me not" game, and keeping the flower intact shows how the character isn't bothered by romantic reciprocity. She can simply enjoy the flower in it's entirety rather than destroying it while wallowing for romantic love.
I too am aroace but she did say they long for romantic love. Personally I never longed for it I was always comfortable with platonic relationships. So I wouldnt nessacarily say it's true since 1/2 the aroace poulation is like me and others are as described. I do love the representation and the art though since it is very rare to come by and the art is beautiful!
Yeah I mean instantly attacking someone for it I can understand ppl are upset but saying stuff like "that Flagg is Transphobic dumbass" Like ppl don't always know everything
Thank you for the updated lesbian flag! And your little "history lesson" was very respectful and well appreciated. I think people tend to forget just how recent nearly ALL of our flags are. Lots of flags were made online, mainly on tumblr. Not that that is necessarily a BAD thing, I actually think it's quite charming that we've carved our own little places of belonging online, but it's difficult to record and document and even MORE difficult to update. As our communities grow and evolve, so do our symbols.
yeah! i got so upset at those comments calling her a dumbass for drawing the flag that she most commonly saw at the time, like, the agressiveness of some ppl was uncalled for, and i like that she educated herself anyway and updated the design
I'm also really glad that she revisited the lesbian flag, the current version is more inclusive and more meaningful than the previous one. The color orange is an explicit include for gnc lesbians, which as a gnc lesbian really meant something to me, where the older flag was just generic lipstick colors made by a transphobe. I'm really sorry that people were mean to her about it. Wish ppl realized it's not worth it to just be mean to other gay ppl for not using a flag that I don't *think* had even been made yet but at the very least hadn't been popularized yet. In any case the harassment still isn't ok.
Yo got to say, as someone who is aro, "trying to block the kiss zone" my be may favorite why of describing my response to seeing romance ever! Loved this video in a completely non romantic, but equily valid way!
I’m somebody who is pretty sure they are aro, but still figuring it out. I have never felt comfortable talking about romantic relationships and not had crushes. I am however perfectly fine with anything sexual. I just don’t understand romance in general. I know that I would never be comfortable being kissed in a romantic way
@@x_L3m0n I'm a little late to this comment but just know that you're extremely valid! Allosexual aromantics don't get enough love from the community imo, and I hope you feel welcomed and validated into the community, even if you're still questioning x
@@x_L3m0n I was the same for my entire life, no crushes ever, and I also don't exactly understand love, lol- When I first came out to my Mom, she was very supportive, but did say, "You're such-and-such years old, you shouldn't be having boyfriends or girlfriends anyways." Meanwhile watching people talk about crushes they had at 5 years old-
Aroace over here! Omg I’m crying rn! This is so special to me! Because we’re often portrayed as robots who dead inside, so to have a bubbly happy, beautiful girl be aro is amazing. I also liked how you put emphasis on how being aro in no way effects the way you feel emotions or empathy. Whenever someone asks me to tell them what it’s like being aro I always ask them, what’s the definition you know? “Someone who doesn’t fall in love.” Yep! You got it! When people wonder what goes through the heads of aro people, it’s nothing. There’s no nuance. It’s exactly what the basic definition is. It in no way affects other aspects of how we think and live, we don’t choose it or think about it or know why we are the way we are, we just are. And that’s it. Very simple.
Glad the Aromantics have been getting some recognition lately I must say, I am a bit surprised that not many people knew about them but I'm glad you're all getting representation now. I used to believe i was aroace, but currently I'd say I'm along the bi or lesbian, possibly pan but not confirmed
back when i thought i was cis and straight, I made my absolutely favorite original character (demi-)ace. And because she was such an important character, I felt the need to represent her accurately so I researched loads, and in a way I started to feel very close to the aroace community through all that research. This was amplified by the fact that aroaces dont have that much representation, so when there WOULD be an aro/ace char I’d be freaking out with the aroaco community in the comments lol. At this point I know I’m bisexual and biromantic, but I do also believe that opening myself up to the idea of aro/ace people helped me understand the extent of my attraction much better. Anyway, sorry for this positive vent haha. I was also shocked that not many people were aware of aro/ace people before Jaiden’s video. Still, she’s such an amazing influence for spreading awareness ^^
@@thesleepydot Lmao no need to be sorry, your story (if you don't mind me calling it that) was very heart-warming to me. It made my day feel a lot more relaxed and comfortable 😊

gonna spread some love for my - aromantics - aplatonics - asexuals - loveless people - everyone under the aro-spec and a-spec labels you are all doing amazing and I'm so proud of you
It's kinda ridiculous that some people in our community (LGBTQ+) know the struggles and difficulties of trying to fit into society and still say that some of us, like aro or ace people, aren't actual identities. It's kinda like saying that since the bassoon or bass clarinet aren't instruments just because typically not a lot of people choose those (Not saying that being LGBT is a choice. Also sorry that was a terrible analogy. I'm a band nerd lol.) Be proud of who you are!! Love y'all!!!
You practice such immoral activities? Aren't you ashamed? And ˹remember˺ when Lot scolded ˹the men of˺ his people, ˹saying,˺ “Do you commit a shameful deed that no man has ever done before? You lust after men instead of women! You are certainly transgressors.” - Quran 7:80-83
@@pajeetslayer12311 this makes no sense. Aromantic and asexual are identities in which there are no romantic or no sexual feelings towards others, therefor they do not “lust” for men instead of women. That would be a gay man or a straight girl. Not aro or ace

My grandma was preaching to my cousin the other day about how unreasonable it is to expose children to sexualities, because you don't even teach them about sex until they're 12 or 13. But even when they aren't exposed to sex, they're still exposed to relationships because they're exposed to their parents and grandparents. We should be teaching children that it's okay to have relationships that aren't just a boy and a girl. If they learn at a young age, it'll stop a lot of hate in the world, and maybe save some confusion for them
not only that but...so many adults declare children of being "stupid" and "protect their innocence at all cost" one of my schools did teach stuff on sex, sexualities and gender, etc at one point (in grade 8-9 which was about 6 years ago now)...but all the LGBTQ+ related stuff was kept very brief (multiple classes on genitials and literal events all around that stuff...but only 10 mins of a 90 minute class on LGBTQ+ stuff) And I only actually found out about the word for my feelings which I had discovered since like Kindergarten age (being different, not feeling like what everyone thought I should be) which only got worse once purberty hit ofc, during that class when the teacher explained what "transgender" means. and later I was able to get help through that teacher and actually get properly educated on that topic and why I feel the way I do and now I'm 2 years on T soooo I am a living example of how helpful education or even mentioning LGBTQ+ in class can be (in a neutral or positive way ofc...if it's in a hateful way I want non of that shit...had too much of that in school as well sadly) And SO many LGBTQ+ kids could be saved just by talking about all of that at least once. And EVEN MORE kids would form a more healthy and accurate view about the LGBTQ+ community My niece knows that I had a higher voice and sounded just like my sister only 2 years ago, but she has no problem seeing me as an uncle instead of an aunt *also sorry for talking so much and being bad at typing in a comprehensive way... I hope it isn't too bothersome to read* 😅
Yeah! Not only that, but people are perfectly willing to impose CULTURAL orientation, ie, the expectation that babies are straight people and treating them like straight people. And that being straight is the default orientation.... Meanwhile gay and straight people come from the same place at the same time. People don't become gay during puberty, any more than they become straight. Which is to say, making it only about intercourse ignores the VERY heavy cultural weight of heteronormativity.
I’m so glad to see the Aros represented, I’m an Ace, and I definitely see how society tends to shove us together and even when we get recognized they tend to be invalidated, so it’s always awesome seeing them get the representation they deserve!
The Aromantic flag was so smart. Like, it's clear that she loves many people in a non-romantic way and that she is extremely sweet, she just doesn't desire a romantic relationship. Also the flower was super smart! Blocking the kiss zone AND adding to how sweet and caring she seems by having her sniff a flower. Also thanks for doing the progress flag. I'm a biracial whatever the frick I am and I really appreciate it!
@@Andi-ce1zl Same! She looked like the type of person to make you something from home for your birthday, and make sure it was unique to you after what she's learned from your friendship.
As an aromantic myself, I also really loved it!! I think a lot of people hear that I'm not attracted to any one romantically and they have one of two reactions, "You just haven't found the right person", or "So... Do you just not feel love?". It's really annoying and sad at the same time. I love people platonically, I just don't want a romantic relationship(or sexual one cause I'm aro ace lol). Her drawing captures that perfectly!! It's really pretty too. I just really love her art.

@@lazyasis5588 hi! From what I’ve researched some aroace people still form connections that could be similar to a relationship, they’re called queerplatonic relationships. Many relationships like this are formed on the bases of feeling something special for someone rather than romantic or sexual attraction. Being aroace doesn’t affect your platonic relationships, all it affects is romantic and sexual ones. I hope I answered your question, and if I’m wrong about anything anyone can feel free to correct me!
@@itz_randomdrawing1975 oh ok makes sense, like in my mind when they talked about platonic relationships I thought about the feeling you have for your friends and family and then just made the assumption that they wouldn't be friends with a guy so I was confused. Can you do the aroace sunset flag sometime? Its blues and oranges, it's for people who identity as both aromantic and asexual. It's a very pretty colour palette and I think it would look great as a drawing.
omg I just looked up the aro/ace sunset flag and i 100000000% agree. Maybe the blue at the bottom is a river or lake that's been frozen over (with the person in the drawing ice-skating), with the white being snow, and the yellow and orange being the sky :0 THAT WOULD LOOK SO PRETTY
as a lesbian, the mushrooms are a perfect fit! also, i think the main issue people (myself included) had issues with the pink flag is because it was literally just the lipstick flag without the lipstick png- and never had a set or inclusive meaning. the sunset flag makes a point to include lesbians in all forms, which is why many feel connected to it now!
@@bear2325 The pink flag with the lipstick png It has been critisized for not including butch and gnc lesbian, aswell as the creator being accused of transphobia biphobia and racism.
I love how you included the aro flag, I am so happy to see people talk about aromanticism independently from asexuality! I myself am aro but not ace so it's nice seeing it here! Also I wanted to point out that it's not exactly that aromantics don't want to be in a relationship, but mostly that we can't get crushes, the kind of "butterflies in your stomach" feeling, I personally can't understand what that would feel like aahh Some of us still want to be in a committed relationship with a partner and hold hands and smooch, especially the ones who aren't ace like me! I still have a hard time with concepts like emotional cheating and stuff like that tho, some people say (like Jaiden in her video) that it would be unfair for us to be in a romantic relationship since the romantic feelings are not there but I totally disagree! After all, we can love people, who cares if you have a crush on them or not? If you still really care about the person and are willing to do that stuff with them then it's no one else's business! It could be something that I'm missing since I don't understand what it feels like to be in love but that's my take
Ace but not aro person here, crushes feel like when you're having an anxiety attack, but you're masochistic and you like the anxiety attack and you try to prolongate it, and the anxiety attack is caused by a random person
yes exactly!! im alloaro and polyamorous!!! i have a primary partner and multiple other ones, to me this makes sense because it's like having multiple really close friends but since we act a lot like romantic couples we just chose to label it that way. a lot of people dont get it tho lol

I'm interested to see how lavendertowne would handle the demigender, demiboy, demigirl flags, especially with the different shades of grays (I just like gray) Maybe they could be a set where the peices can be standalone but are interconnected be it by themel or placement
@@Juzokinnie No, I mean they could combine the three flags. How demigirl uses pink and gray, the demiboy uses blue and gray, and demigender itself is yellow and gray. Funny that they have the pan colors altogether.

Just as the community grows and changes, so do we as individuals and I hope that some of the community saw this and learned not to jump to hostility and assume negative intention. This world would be a much better place if we gave benefit of the doubt a little more often and took the time to educate others instead of condemn them. Thank you again.

For those of you that are struggling to understand how asexuals/aromantic people fit into the LGBT community, you have remember they're not straight and therefore belong in the LGBT community. This even includes heterosexual aromantics and asexual heteromantics.
Finally someone said this. I’m an ace person and no one even told me about my sexuality until a year ago. We can still feel love. This is similar to my aro counterparts as well they can still feel love. It’s sad that the Trevor project is the only big name LGBT suicide hotline and health center that recognizes Asexuals and aromatics.
I don’t really understand how aromantics aren’t straight. For the aros who aren’t asexual, if you still feel sexually attracted to the opposite sex.. how is that not straight? You don’t need to love someone to uh, do the dirty. It’s still straight, isn’t it? (‘Long as it’s the opposite sex)
@@kaleycooper9111 (disclaimer, I'm not trying to be rude. If what I'm saying comes off as rude I am so sorry.) Aromantics are people that don't feel romantic attraction. (Just romantic love, they can still platonic, familiar, and etc) so which makes them not straight. A visual way to describe what I'm saying is the comic "both sides make some good points." In the comic, there's someone in between two teams and says "both sides make some good points" then the person on the left shoves the person in the middle to the right then asks "why are you siding with the bad guy?" It's like that with aro/ace community. They were shunned out of the heterosexual community and the LGBT community were the ones that "caught" them. Also with the way you phrased the second part sounds wrong, it can easily be interpreted as: you can only be queer if you're with someone of the same gender. I don't think you meant it that way, but I'm just saying that.
@@kaleycooper9111it may hard for you to imagine, but asexual people experience discrimination from people all the time because they don’t fit in heteronormativity. You seem to have the idea that straight people are the default/norm, but try to think of it this way: An aromantic person is someone who has absolutely no desire to be in a romantic relationship, they don’t want to hug, kiss, or be involved with anyone. They would feel the same way being with anyone as, say, a lesbian would feel with a man. It is their orientation which differs from being straight.

ah i’m a closeted lesbian too and i just wanted to say that i promise ur ok, ur family will absolutely not make that connection between mushroom aesthetics and queer culture. homophobic ppl won’t take the time to understand our community and therefore won’t realize how certain aesthetics/cores tie into our identities yk? i absolutely understand the anxiety around it tho and i hope ur safe and have ppl to be there for u even if that’s not ur family and im sending u sm love and support either way!!💛💛💛💛💛
if its any consolation, a lot of homophobic people tend to be in denial and will often ignore/ avoid signs of lgbtq+ activity so I highly doubt they'd make the connection unless someone else pointed it out to them. In any case, sending love and support vibes to you; I wish you the best!

Another clever bit of symbolism i noticed with the Aro flag: A typical way in media to show someone having a crush on another person, is to have them pluck petals off of a flower and alternating between "loves me" and "loves me not" as kind of a way to see if the person likes them back
An aromantic person would obviously have no interest in that, so having the character hold a flower with all its petals intact feels kinda fitting :D
When I was a kid, I was really confused because I didn't know aro was a thing, so I did that, but reversed the role to just decide "do I love them or are they just a person I want to draw" thing lmao
Fun fact, people also use yellow flowers to symbolize aromanticism, as it means friendship, so yellow intact flowers are like perfect

Yes! Very happy she used our official flag :)

Good for you 😊
back when i thought i was cis and straight, I made my absolutely favorite original character (demi-)ace.

If they learn at a young age, it'll stop a lot of hate in the world, and maybe save some confusion for them
I totally agree! I also think that they should be taught about different genders/transgender people, and know that all of that stuff is okay.
not only that but...so many adults declare children of being "stupid" and "protect their innocence at all cost"
one of my schools did teach stuff on sex, sexualities and gender, etc at one point (in grade 8-9 which was about 6 years ago now)...but all the LGBTQ+ related stuff was kept very brief (multiple classes on genitials and literal events all around that stuff...but only 10 mins of a 90 minute class on LGBTQ+ stuff)
And I only actually found out about the word for my feelings which I had discovered since like Kindergarten age (being different, not feeling like what everyone thought I should be) which only got worse once purberty hit ofc, during that class when the teacher explained what "transgender" means.
and later I was able to get help through that teacher and actually get properly educated on that topic and why I feel the way I do and now I'm 2 years on T soooo
I am a living example of how helpful education or even mentioning LGBTQ+ in class can be (in a neutral or positive way ofc...if it's in a hateful way I want non of that shit...had too much of that in school as well sadly)
And SO many LGBTQ+ kids could be saved just by talking about all of that at least once. And EVEN MORE kids would form a more healthy and accurate view about the LGBTQ+ community
My niece knows that I had a higher voice and sounded just like my sister only 2 years ago, but she has no problem seeing me as an uncle instead of an aunt
*also sorry for talking so much and being bad at typing in a comprehensive way... I hope it isn't too bothersome to read* 😅
Yes!
As an aroace, this made me so happy. We’re probably the least known sexuality/orientation and it feels nice to be recognized 💚🖤🤍

@slurp oh no the cottagecore lesbian is definitely a stereotype it just so happens to be a stereotype applicable to me lmao

@@greadams1858 okay but that doesn’t explain what the flag is supposed to mean
I love how you included the aro flag, I am so happy to see people talk about aromanticism independently from asexuality! I myself am aro but not ace so it's nice seeing it here! Also I wanted to point out that it's not exactly that aromantics don't want to be in a relationship, but mostly that we can't get crushes, the kind of "butterflies in your stomach" feeling, I personally can't understand what that would feel like aahh
Some of us still want to be in a committed relationship with a partner and hold hands and smooch, especially the ones who aren't ace like me! It could be something that I'm missing since I don't understand what it feels like to be in love but that's my take
thanks for the explanation how aro feelings kinda are! That will help me ":)

I'm interested to see how lavendertowne would handle the demigender, demiboy, demigirl flags, especially with the different shades of grays (I just like gray)
Maybe they could be a set where the peices can be standalone but are interconnected be it by themel or placement
Maybe it could have the blue, yellow, and pink fading into each other as one gradient landscape? I think that’d look really cool
@@carelessdreamer I think you're thinking of the pan flag. I was just confused because the main comment was about demigender stuff.

the way you described being aromantic was really lovely to me. I'm not aro myself but I think it's really really important to remind people that romantic love is not the only way to be loving and that aro people still deserve to be respected and loved (platonically ;3)
I love these videos and the creativity that goes into these transitions. Not one to comment often but after seeing all of the negative that came in the last video's comment section I wanted to put some positivity into the air.
In regards to that negativity, thank you so much for addressing it gracefully and not getting defensive. I think you did an excellent job of diffusing by providing the information that was relevant at the time and the changes that have happened since then. Just as the community grows and changes, so do we as individuals and I hope that some of the community saw this and learned not to jump to hostility and assume negative intention. This world would be a much better place if we gave benefit of the doubt a little more often and took the time to educate others instead of condemn them. Thank you again.
I love the extra care you put into representing aromanticism. I was so excited to see my flag in the thumbnail, and knowing how much thought went into made it even better!

Everyone deserve to be seen as who they are as long as they are good. So if you want to be ace in anyway I support it
One time, when i was literally 12 i came out to my dad as aromantic
he did NOT accept me, infact, when i was 8 he said “if you’re apart of the gay community, i will NOT accept your decisions, not pay for your bills, you wont live with me, you can live with your girlfriend.” i was literally 8 and knew i was apart of the community at the time and understood the community alot, my mom was bisexual died when i was 7, she told me before she died and i started looking into the community at that time, back to my dad, when i was 12 he did not understand that lgbtqia was not a sin, etc.
im not christan or in a religion at the age of 14, i live with my ally auntie cuz my dad “went on vacation for awhile” he left me for my choice, im happy with my auntie now, she is super supportive over my aromantic self, my auntie has a daughter that is my best friend! shes Ace, we are super bestie cousins and i love her! I’m happy you’re with your aunt now !

I’m so happy for you!!!!!
If what I'm saying comes off as rude I am so sorry.)
Aromantics are people that don't feel romantic attraction.
