Thanks for the support in my Army Men 2 series! You asked for Toys in Space next, and here it is! 3DO's Toys in space was an amazing part of my childhood and expanded my love for the series even more. The final frontier gets a lot more fun in this gem.

Offline multiplayer of this game was amazing. Anything you wanted, and it was just complete madness.

Ah you missed the secret in the UFO Sandbox level. If I remember correctly it had something to do with killing all the ants within a certain timeframe. Sarge will then play a voiceline about hating ants, turn orange, and catch on fire and his shots do fire damage like a flamethrower. It was wild.
Perfect! My top 3 Army Men games. Next should either be Army Men World War (PC) or Air Tactics (PC) I wish Toys in Space was a little bit different. But still a really good and fun game!

Second comment which might be too late but regarding the sound effects: if you miss those MEATY sounds from AM2 and dont want your bazookas sounding like potato launcher tubes, you can just copy the sounds folder from AM2 into the TIS folder and replace the files. They use the same filenames for both games (ie sargebazooka), so they'll work just fine. You can even pick and choose which effects to keep (such as the much more impactful mortar blast from TIS). Cheers!

Ah Toys in Space. This one I like but it definitely shows some growing pains. AM1 was hard, but it was also built around being a single character action game with light strategy elements. AM2 was easy because they built the game like AM1: a single character action game, but now you have a lot more group control over the strategy elements. TIS goes hard in the other direction, this game does NOT like you trying to solo it with Sarge and his MurderBall. The fact units can be individually controlled now and you can divide up squads into smaller squads shows they really wanted you to play this more like a strategy game where you position you guys in key points rather than just stomp everything in force. However the extremely aggressive AI and the absolutely overturned HP reductions on you and your squad makes this feel really cumbersome I feel. You die so fucking fast and so easily it’s hard to even assess what you did wrong most of the time.
I also don’t like that TIS starts out in the Big World, the aliens are clearly plastic as well and came from space so shouldn’t they be from the Plastic World? This was the start of Army Men overly relying on Human World gimmicks and while I do like the new stuff added (flyswatter, bug spray, the baseball), I wish they eased into it slower. It’s also just a funnier spin on UFO stories to have the UFO land in actual Tan country instead of just some sandbox somewhere. But that’s just me, I still like this game a lot lol.
I think the game is kind of a parody on itself in TIS. They really leaned into the goofy side of things and it shows. I think it was more marketable to make the game take this whacky direction but i agree that they could of added the regular territories too. I think the idea is that the green and tan forces are trying to gain a foothold in every part that is uncontrolled as they can. Like most war tactics involve. Very much enjoy it too even though its difficulty spike didn't exactly match its looks.
@@Nihilixx the self parody does feel evident with how the dialogue goes and the 1950s sci-fi movie vibes lol. I know plot isn’t the biggest deal for an army man game but I do like it most when it’s got enough to hold a through line together lol
Never got to play this one growing up cool to see what came after 2 I always thought the series went PlayStation after 3d and world war and I only found out recently that there was a PC port of sarges heroes apparently. Guess I can thank the popularity of the series with rental companies like blockbuster and Hollywood Video

The pc version of army men world war also runs on this top down perspective were sarge wasnt the only one who could be controled

Yea, so.. in TiS, the extra soldiers are 1 to 1 with the enemy ones. They intended you to make squads and send them to attack with you while you micro Sarge. Usually, on the ufo level, i would send my men targeting the mortar and take out the tank myself. Casualties are expected in TiS. In Army men 2, you're building your own army to fight the war on your own bjt in TiS. You're part of something bigger.
Yeah, it seems they intended for you to use your soldiers more. Whenever I did just that it felt a bit more fun, but briefly lol. Once your soldiers were KIA, it left Sarge and Tina open to being targets so quick!
This looks like polished goofier 2, only one I had in childhood i hope you give it proper playthrough.

What a game
My faves are: 2, WW, 1, toys, air tactics, then all the 3rd person ones come after. They were fine enough, sarges heroes and all that, but I HATED the animation style, the older games legit look the best, nothing in the 3rd person games even resembles what it's meant to resemble, and that was actual toy soldiers.
I always wanted there to be some attempt at a larger narrative linking the games, but to my knowledge, really only 1 and 2 are directly linked, with toys being... probably linked, I like it a lot, so I say it counts, lol, but the question then becomes like, where does world war for in?
Since world war has no weapons or equipment from the Big World, and no mention of it is ever made, some folks think it takes place before 1. Since each game is basically self contained, sure, I like that well enough, it sets the stage for Plastro to have a real chip on his shoulder (maybe literally!) And spend a few decades building up Tan strength again, and this is the situation in the beginning of 1. So the fact you mostly control privates and corporals in WW this represents a less specialized army like they have in 1, and they learned a lot from their war with the Tan and modernized on par with how they are described in 1 as the finest military in the plastic world, even as the Tan outnumber them nearly 10:1. Your character in WW is "commander Green" and you can rank up, so maybe that's the future Colonel Grimm? And maybe Sarge was a private back then, who's to say how long plastic people live? 1 introduces the portals, and 2-the last ones pretty much deal with the interactions between the Big and Plastic worlds, this could explain how Sarge gets replaced by Sgt Hawk and Bravo Company as the main characters, as Sarge may have been permanently stationed in the Big World, or maybe he managed to shack up with Tina in spaaaaace! Lotsa thoughts, I know this is long and rambly, but I've been trying to tie this "lore" (or lack thereof) together for a hot minute now😅
I also always imagined in WW that they really had like, WW2 gear, and if that is the case, then the tech upgrade by the time of 1 being more Korea-Vietnam level makes a lot of sense. I'm still scratching my head over how an air cavalry brigade required Big World top secret stuff, when they had helicopters as far back as 1, but maybe that6because of the reboot for the sarges heroes era?

I remeber palying demo of this game. I had no idea what was going on, how the controls worked and as resoult, did not like it very much. Granted, I was like 11 at the time :P .
Only Army Men game I played in serious lenght was RTS. The most decently average real time strategy I've ever played
I must admit, as a player of all Army Men games across all platforms, of all the PC games, army men in space was my least favorite. Btw I own a full boxset of “army men ‘in space” not “toys in space” I think it’s a European version which cuts out the word ‘toys’ from the title
