- ORBITAL - "Dŵr Budr" from the IN SIDES album
Written by Paul and Phil Hartnoll
Vocals :Alison Goldfrapp.
The day before mastering the album, Paul felt it wasn't complete, so wanted to fill the gap. He wrote Dŵr Budr the day before the cut!
This was another quick creation. Completed in one day with the first part on the morning and second part later in the day.
The vocals are from another recording session but at the time they didn't work out. In a frantic search to complete the track, they played around with these. The final version was pitched differently and also reversed.
Hardware used, Xpander, Wave Station, SH 101 and E-mu Emulator III sampler, 808 and Arp 2600
The title is welsh for dirty water and influenced by the oil spill just off Pembrokeshire coast, which was caused by the Sea Empress.
I can't explain the joy this song gives me. I remember trying to play this for people back in high school. This whole album seemed so much more organic than the other electronic music of the 90's, and this song here was like this strange uplifting daydream that mutates into a weird playful funk before landing. It's a full 10 min journey for sure.
A masterpiece album from master electronic musicians.
It’s music about a sad story, bro
The album is very melodic and beautiful... I re-listen now, 24 years later.
In-Sides brings be back to carefree days back when I was in College and still living at home, this album will always remain on my playlist.
Best track on the album. Opening sequence is beautiful. Great memories of Uni days and live performances triggered every tim I hear it
Made in a day, cherished for 25 years. Please keep doing your thing, Hartnoll bros. Your music is one of the best things on this planet.

this is arguably one of the greatest dance music albums of all time. I still listen to it often.
strongly agree
One day?! You guys never cease to amaze me. An absolute masterpiece. Can't imagine In Sides without it.
Such an amazing and emotional track that still blasts the mud out of the water 25 years later :-) ♡
Can't believe this is 25 years old, still sounds fresh to me
@@matthew6994 it truly does... just wish we could rewind 25 years for everything else:-)
omg 25 years ago.... That was my first words when the music has started. We're gray-haired ravers now :D
@@MrZinadinHahaha yes sadly this is very true :-)
Hang on! Heavy pause! Dŵr Budr was created in ONE DAY?! That's amazing! I would had never had guessed!
We can clean all the plastic and oil that we've tainted our seas and air with, but could we ever clean the shame out of ourselves for what we did to one another and our world? Dwr budr, cannot be drunk, but still reflects on us the same.
My favourite track from my favourite album. Truly amazing work. Can't believe they wrote it in a day!
This, for me, was the human emotional heart of a widescreen album. Brought it back to very real, local things in a universe of stars and the unknown. Always the track I go back to first.
For me, this is one of the finest pieces of music there is
this album should be the official soundtrack to every livestream of every space x launch. gettin the futuristic industrial spacey tingles with every listen!
All the songs on this album are masterpieces.
Love that the Arp 2600 "sounds like Orbital" in my mind when it's been used by so many people for so long. Such a great piece of equipment, but you guys used it better than most.
back then we thought it was one of many albums, today we know that it is a timeless masterpiece
What an amazing piece of electronic music.
I wrote a dissertation with this album as the theme. Greatly influenced my thinking for a lifetime!
if you did not get an A+, the teacher is lost
i'd read it if you'd be willing to link it big dog
Throughout the late 90s and early 00s I used this song to determine if speakers and headphones were up to par.
What track do you use for testing now? :)
In sides is a very good album.... the masterpiece of Orbital
I have listened to this album more times than I could count. It defined my late 90's.
That’s me right there. Got it from my sister and literally learned every track second by second, beat by beat. What an absolute masterpiece
I have the orginal cassette tape In Sides album and when i.m coming back... listen this tape (yes i have still also the cassette tape player) I become that listening youth again!!! Thanks Orbital
Minimalist Masterpiece!!! Cheer´s from Brazil!!!
this one means so much to me. since the day i bought the album when it came out. it really hits home 💫💫
It gives me a new appreciation of this track to know it was the last one created for this album, in a final creative burst. I would love to hear your notes on 'Out There Somewhere' one day.
For me this is the best piece of electronic music ever
Orbital’s masterpiece
Please repress the 3xLP of INSIDES !
Goosebumps
Stunningly gorgeous.
I love this track!
Знакомые все люди...))
Мир тесен дружище, рад что ты тоже слушаешь группу Orbital :)
Incredible track on a fantastic album. I keep asking, please repress and do a livestream!
Masterpiece!
Engrossing from the 1st. Encapsulation. Emotional journey. And that's just the feelings.
The sounds that give them. More WOWs. The acute stabs. The beats, wherever they were found. The match.
What a beautiful piece of electronica.
Breathtaking! I've enjoyed Orbital's music over the years🔥💚
One of my favorite songs of all time and my favorite Orbital track. Achingly beautiful , lush pads, an 808 electro drum track gone frenetic with an Acid TB-303 breakdown at the end. Amazing
Love the first 2 minutes. Could listen to that on loop all night
Beautiful
This is their best one, YET
I feel compelled to express how lovely this piece of music is, but there aren’t words available to do my feelings justice.
Thank you for leaving me speechless, breathless, and profoundly thankful.
The BEST Orbital album. (IN SIDES)
Brilliant piece.
Good to see the p+p brothers sharing tracks from this album it's like they wanted to forget it but it's the best they did
Крутий саунд!
Love your music guys. Peace

Masters like ever.
This + Xtc = best times
Happy Birthday !
🍀🙏💚
Maybe Paul Hartnoll got teached how to deliver things quickly working in a Pizza restaurant? It is just amazing that this masterpiece of a song was made in a day! I think I also have read that the Peel Sessions "Lush Euro Tunnel Disaster '94" and "Walk About" was done in a day, Lush before lunch and Walk About after lunch.
Pure masterpiece, as the best album!
What a cosmic tune 🎧🚀
I’m yet to come across one track that I don’t like or can even criticise fro The Brothers Hartnoll.. Looking forward to seeing you guys live @ Playground festival in Glasgow in September as it’s been many many moons since I’ve had the pleasure to see you guys play live..
Paul you're the best

HOW (THE F*CK) DO YOU MAKE SUCH A TRACK IN ONE DAY??? Unbelievable, I refuse to believe it. Such chills and emotions from a day's work...
Wicked album, all told.
The title is Dirty Water in Welsh
The weirdest thing about this song, is that fans are begging for more vinyl to be made, vinyl that is made of plastic (PVC), that is made of oil. They must have missed the point completely !
Knowhere to Run.
Happy daze 🔥
Summer is here.
Надо больше подобного звука, сложного, ритмичного и насыщенного, в 1991 ваша музыка была в авангарде, почему все забросили, Autechre продолжают работать и у них свой сложный почерк, но интересный, вы могли бы тоже пошуршать🤔
Always said the box was my favourite off the album all because I can't pronounce this title!!
What sequencer did you use?
They were still using MMT8's at the time I think, I could be wrong
@@Eightball69 Yes, live. But not sure if that's what they used to compose it.
I believe for Times Fly EP they moved to a Mac running Logic, before that it was Atari ST and C-Lab Creator (??) - recalling an interview in Future Music many years ago, they were sat on Brighton beach in the photos, that’s all I remember!
@@robinschroder7594 Cheers for the info!
