- ORBITAL - "Adnan's" from the IN SIDES album
Written by Paul and Phil Hartnoll
This was another track that was written in one day.
Originally written for War Child charity record and they wanted all artists to record their tracks in one day. The first original version was called "Adnan"
The version on In Sides, is the extended version. The precision sounds were all recorded in a friends work shop using saw and hammers. There is for example, a sound of sawing through a pipe and also hitting a pipe.
909 is heavily used.
Has a cold war vibe to the track
Orbital watched the news about a family evacuated from the former Yugoslavia. The father had to stay behind to work, and his 16-year-old son decided he had to go back and stay with him. He felt he couldn't leave him on his own. After a few days the son, Adnan, got blown up and killed.
In Sides was actually my entry to 'serious' electronic music (rather than eurodance), when I was 16. i stumbled over an avertisment for it in a printed magazin, and thought: looks interesting. and the next time I went to the recordshop, I asked if they have it, and they had it. I had a listen to it, and was totally fascinated right away. and I haven't stopped playing In Sides since then. If I had to choose one album from the last 25 years, that's the one.
Also the story of Adnan is new to me, a very touching one, I will remember every time I play it.
thank you, guys.
This is an absolute masterpiece of electronic music. Possibly the best thing to ever come from Orbital. Every single thing about it is perfect.
For me it is one of my favourite tracks of all time. It suits so many different moods. Bouncy, trippy, uplifting, sad, happy, mellow. Many thanks for one of my most important tracks of all time. Many thanks for THE most important and most loved album in my music collection. Hope to hear many more classics to come! Peace out Orbital 🙂✌🏻
RIP Adnan. The war in former Yugoslavia in the 90's was horrible. It is important never to forget, such a great song, may help us remember to never go to war again. War only creates heartbreak and loss for the everyday persons out there somewhere. Yesterday it was Adnan, tomorrow (god forbid) it could be anybody of us (Rolling Stones Give Me Shelter: "War, children It's just a shot away")
In Sides was my favorite album as a kid and throughout my teenage years.
25 years and this sounds as good today as it did then. I didn’t know the story behind this and it’s incredibly sad. RIP Adnan, you live on through this music.
Who is Adnan? :)
@@originofnoise read the track description.
So moving, like Halcyon but even better
Ridiculous how good this track and Album is, Orbital a their peak.
25 years on and as fresh as day 1!! Absolute class!! 👏👏
It blows my mind to think they wrote this in just one day.
I really agree.
even elementary school students can easily compose music these days if they have the right environment, but back then it was still 1996.
These brothers are truly talented.
A beautiful tribute. Adnan is listening, out there somewhere...
It is the emotion that P+P can infuse into their music that makes them standout amongst their peers. I would challenge anyone to find another electronic album with the same range and depth of feeling. This gorgeous tune is just one of the best examples the Lads have done. I also love that Adnan's was written almost by accident
Meraviglia ancora e sempre! Tutto l'album è un capolavoro
Je me rappellerais toujours la première fois que j'ai écouté se chef œuvre ! INOUBLIABLE !
I wish I knew how to say thank you for making this. I sure was a lonely confused kid and this album was the path out. Certainly a surprise gift, one I open and enjoy a LOT. Thank you Orbital!!!
Always a favourite. The way those chords ooze in is proper lovely.
I miss those days... So much!
I cannot describe how good this album is and how I felt when I first bought it back in 1997. Absolutely mind-blowing! And this is one of the epic songs in this monumental artwork! Thanks for sharing it with the fans! Also RIP Adnan! I hope you would have had a better beginning with your loved ones in the afterlife.
As if yesterday... excellent as ever, thank you 👨🏻🚀
This is one of my all time favorite albums, happy memories of driving down to glastonbury on the A303 and back with friends with this blasting all the way, good times, still listen to it often, thanks for the timeless music
Such a beautiful record. Stood the test of time. This moment in time during the 90s, was monumental with so many incredible artists and musicians. Too many to mention.
Ironic that I have asked for this track to be part of the playlist at my funeral.
This never gets old!
Underrated tune from the BRILLIANT 'In Sides' album..
Beyond beautiful.... ♡
A great track from my favourtite Orbital album. I can listen to this anytime and all the way through, no skipping. A perfect album.
An utterly amazing track from a stunning album.
The sampled speech from the War Child version always gives me chills every time I hear it. If anyone doesn't have a copy, buy one, there are some amazing tracks on it.
A brilliant progressive electro track. Always an emotional journey!
Best electronica album of all times
Excellent album! Thank you for putting up more content!
Evil here... Thanx for your song!🥰
It's one of my favorite songs! And the artwork is also wonderful💕
How the most horrible things in life still can lead to comprehensive beauty.
Please repress this vinyl.
I find this track very calming
I always loved this track! Dark but with a sweet melody.

Epic - best track on the In Sides album.

Such beautiful, beautiful music on this album. I want the vinyl album so I can have the artwork full sized; always have done! I would honestly say that this is my favourite album of all time.
The Box is great but I must admit I love this track the most. Such a great build up...
I always loved this track, but reading the story behind it really touches my heart! Great job, guys!

Sehr schön,mal wieder die alten Hits zu hören 🤗...
Cool track, Orbital!
One of my favourite all time songs
Remember listening to the original short version on the Help compilation back in '95 and wishing for an extended excursion of it. And then it was on In Sides the following year. Always saddens to think about the unfortunate events inspiring the track.
This is how Middle Of Nowhere breathes
