2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Purge Valve Replacement - possible fix for P0456 error

  • Steps to disconnect and replace. Careful removing the clips, they are brittle and fragile. If you break the white one, I believe the replacement is Dorman part 800-040. Also, when putting on the new one, I would recommend sliding the new valve onto the mount before you make any of the other connections.
    My issues: check engine light with code P0456 and also after refueling and filling up tank, engine would be hard to start on first attempt. Also, I inspected the purge valve with the engine running and it seemed to be struggling (could hear a tapping sound).
    For my Jeep (2014 GC Limited) the part # is 4627972AC. I had previously replaced the ESIM but the error returned.

    The part of the video where it is shown how to unlock the white clip from the black connector is absolutely false. You do not need to pry it with a screw driver. After watching the video and trying this when I replaced the plastic line, I actually broke 2 of the white clips on the existing line. You are correct in stating they are very brittle and can't imagine how you didn't snap yours. Once the red clip is removed you actually just push in on the white strip ( can be seen on the back of the black connector). This spreads the internal legs of the clip and unlocks the connector. Simply push in on the back of the white clip and pull the connector apart. It may take a little effort. There is another video out there that shows the correct way to release those type of connectors and is not related to replacing the purge valve or line. It simple demonstrates the correct way to release the connector. When reconnecting, insure the red clip is being reinserted correctly. There is T on the red clip and a slot shaped like T on the black connector. If you can't push the red clip all the way back into the black connector, it is misaligned. The red clip actually prevents the white clip from being pushed in to unlock the connector. Simply ingenious and easy to disconnect if you know the correct way.

      I just changed my evap hose and confirm this is correct. The one part I struggled with is you also need to push the hose into the connector slightly before you press the white clip in otherwise the white clip will bind on the hose and not release fully.

      @treybillings1976 do you happen to know the replacement peice for the white clip?

    Got the same code. First I replaced ESIM by watching UA-cam video. Easy but the code came back. Then I saw the purge valve replacement video and when I checked my car the tube connection to the purge valve next to that electronic connection was cracked. When I pushed gently it just broke off. So I used epoxy glue and put it together followed by three more layers of epoxy around it. It dries fast and now feels like plastic seal. So far the code hasn't returned. Crossing my fingers. I think the video I saw had same issue where the connection tubing broke off and he replaced the whole valve but had to buy fuel line to connect the tubing. I think if you can just seal the connection you may not need to replace the whole thing.

    Does the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee have this thing?

    So, the install is just the reverse order? And any tricks one needs to know about sliding it off that slot connection?

    • @tulipox123
      @tulipox123  4 роки тому

      yes, sorry, i just noticed your questions. wish i was clearer about these steps in the video. replacing is the reverse order. if you are talking about the flat piece, there was no special trick. it should slide on/off pretty easily. it slides off to the right.

    How did you get the rubber end off where it connects to the air intake in the back? I gave it all my force to pull it off that nipple and it did not budge a centimeter. It's like its glued on and I don't want to break the fragile plastic line its connected to.

      definitely didn't require any major effort to remove that. not sure why that would be the case for you.

      @@joec4289 Yeah I am not sure. I had to cut it off to get it off and was getting code P0456. After changing the purge valve another code came back P0440. Any ideas? ESIM maybe?

      @@scottoswald3771 yeah, change the ESIM if you haven't already. it's a cheap part and easy to swap out.
