What got me at this scene is that even this late in the movie, Ripley had no idea what the alien looked like. She only saw the small version leave after it erupted from Kane, but that was it.
In an extended version of Brett’s death both her and Parker run in and see it as it pulls him up into the landing legs, while that part of the scene was cut for run time it’s still canon as Parker mentions that the full grown Xenomorph is huge when the crew are gathered around after Brett is killed.
In their last moments, people show you who they really are. Parker wanted to protect Lambert and even in the face of death (xenomorph) he used his last strength to tell Lambert to get out of the room. 😢
I think they had some sort of romantic attraction/relationship... Parker is notably flirting with Lambert right before Kane's death. There's a big implication in the film that pretty much everyone is sleeping with everyone (and it's even directly referenced in some of the deleted scenes + early script), with the exception of Ash for obvious reasons. But you see very little romantic relationships and this is the closest you get.

That scene very much implies that everyone is sleeping with everyone else (but notably in that scene we hear that Ash is "not particularly interested" in sex. Of course this is foreshadowing that he *can't* physically sleep with the others). Ripley and Dallas were actually originally supposed to be in love too. Which of course is the exact opposite of what is portrayed in the final film... but I think there's a lot of implied sex in the film and not a lot of implied romance.

Ripley fighting the Queen in Aliens is awesome and always will be, but there's something about this original Xenomorph that surpasses even its Queen: the fact that it acts less like part of a larger hive and more like a serial killer relishing in its vitcims' terror.
The original Alien ‘Big Chap’ is portrayed as a highly intelligent creature with a dark personality, almost psychopathic, with some serial killer tendencies, there’s also a deleted ‘Crab walk’ scene before this where it’s just acting like a massive creep. It clearly knows it’s stalking the crew and is just playing with them. It seems to intentionally prolong the suffering of both Parker and Lambert’s death, cherish in their fear before delivering the killing blow, as if this gives it power over them, like real life serial killers. It’s also making some sort of mechanical noise like electric signals, something none of the sequels captured. Pure bio-mechanical nightmare beauty.
I noticed the noises too ! It added so much layers and details to the identity of the big chap. It genuinely makes me so upset the xenomorph lost so much of its individuality and uniqueness in the sequels to make it entirely bug like. Even though the big chap has bug like tendencies it was very intelligent, we don’t see that again besides in isolation.

The sequels alternated the idea of cosmic horror into mere space bugs. They can’t hold a candle against this masterpiece and have to be considered fanfiction. As much as I like Aliens as an action movie it is a horrible sequel. Nothing of this is canon to me.
Lambert’s murder was always supposed to be a symbolic rape scene… she was forcefully pierced with the monster’s tail. I read a ton about this film many decades ago. I always found her breathing on the intercom while she is being ripped apart to be the most disturbing and frightening part of the whole film. Also, most of H.R. Giger’s work is packed full of overt sexual overtones - it’s really quite dirty.

Right from the start, the alien seems very interested in Lambert and walks to her slowly like a creep, almost enjoying her reaction of being afraid and wants this to last forever. 1:31 It walks to Lambert with that movement, almost like it’s saying ‘Don’t be shy, sweetie, this won’t hurt’, with Lambert’s look of pure dread, 1:35 before the tail very suggestively moves up her legs. Her screams are prue nightmare fuel. Lambert gets killed last of the film, and arguably had the most painful and unsettling death of them all - nothing was shown, but left for your imagination, pure horror.
That's because they couldn't make the practical effects of Lambert's death scene work during filming and ended up settling on the edit with it's tail and then audio with Ripley running towards her. The making of Alien book which contains graphic photos and details of the original Lambert's death scene and Parker is very different and extremely graphic from the theatrical cinema release or director's cut. Images from the magazine/book were highly detailed imagery of how Lambert was supposed to be killed with photo images for the director to get the right shot for actual filming. They just couldn't make the practical effects work which is a shame because they could probably do it now with CGI like with the late Carrie Fisher when filming her scenes as Lisa in Rogue One. But yeah the Xenomoph picks up Lambert using it's tail between her virgina and suspends her in mid air, then it briefly abuses her sexually before killing her with that mouth extension thing. Whether her final scream would have made the original intended edit is questionable. Such an iconic movie, I'm sure those images are out there somewhere online because the glossy magazine/book was blood expensive back then. I'm sure the director would love to remake this for IMAX and keep the intented death scenes of Brett, Dallas, Parker, Lambert. Not sure what Alien Romlus is gonna offer in terms of original death scenes but we'll see on general release

The ONLY use of CGI in this film I would tolerate would be a replacement of the (let's be honest) HORRIBLE effects used when the Nostromo self-destructed. I've seen better rendering of explosions in Bugs Bunny cartoons....
I really don’t know what I prefer Alien or Aliens. Both absolute masterpieces. Alien is straight up horror terrifying . Aliens is taking the fight back to them with an incredible cast and the newt/ripley relationship was a cool addition. Sad how alien 3 did Hicks and Newt dirty
Alien. Aliens is a good action flick but has nothing of the originals spirit left. it turned an incomprehensible, lovecraftian entity into space ants. I consider none of the sequels canon, the intention of the OG film was somehing else entirely.
They did the warriors dirty in Aliens. They are supposed to be the same as the OG Big Chap, but Cameron removed the dome and made them so wack they drop like flies. I guess it's all down to execution.
If they all had their bullets it would have been a Turkey shoot. Vasquez and Drake did fine. If there was only one Xenomorph _Aliens_ would have been 20 minutes long!

I think this xeno would have died just as easily as those in Aliens had the crew here had access to the same weapons. Creatures are generally scarier if they can't be killed. The original beast was horrifically beautiful. It took its time and there was insidiousness behind it. The later on-sight slaughter bug monsters lessened the beast as a whole

I just love Alien and this is one of my favorite scenes of all time in any film I’ve ever watched. Throughout the film, the character who goes off on their own is in danger. Not this time though as Ripley is safe and Parker/Lambert are not. Lambert, fearful throughout the whole film of the alien, is paralyzed with fear and cannot move even when Parker-who had a thing for her-is screaming at her to get out of the way. Then Parker tries to save her but the alien is smart enough to let him try and hits him. But this alien is my favorite because of how sadistic it is. It picks up Parker who is probably pretty strong and squeezes him so hard that he bleeds before the alien bites him in the head. Then it takes its time moving over to lambert now that it’s eliminated its biggest threat and presumably rapes her before gruesomely killing her. Meanwhile Ripley, who still has not even seen this thing yet, discovers them dead just seconds later. Tremendous scene in horror.
The way those lips peel back, and how far they peel back. Just when you think you've seen all of it's super-pissed-off mouth, it seems like there's still more teeth to show. Jesus, the look on that thing's face when it's about to pierce Parker's skull is horrific. Imagine that thing holding you in place, like you're a child (bc it's so big), and watching it sloooowly prepare to punch a hole in your skull. Good god.
God damn it, there are TWO voices screeching, breathing and making assorted noises while Ripley is running.. and Parker is already gone.. Who the Hell does that second voice belong to? Is the xenomorph imitating Lambert in some obscene mockery? Bizarre! This scene, the more you study it, more and more becomes a snapshot from Hell.
If they only listen to lambert who keep saying "Lets get the hell out of here" they would have not meet this terriying Xenomorph😅 I know its a movie but...
This scene is what supports Big Chap from the bug like Xenia later made. He is clearly enjoying the terror from Lambert and after killing Parker had his way with her. This shows a dark and dare I say human like intelligence. Big Chap was intelligent and sadistic.

This implicitly suggests the alien SA'd Lambert with it's tail. Her legs are bare when Ripley finds them. In AVP (2010) there's an attack the alien can perform on the marines in which it impales the victim by shoving it's tail in their behind ,till it's tail stinger emerges out of their mouth... It's seemingly inspired by this. Maybe the alien tried to drag her through a vent and her pants ripped off but given H.R Giger designed it, well...
Such a horrifying scene, an Alien is taking its time to kill Parker while he screams and tries to fight back but the creature’s grasp is too strong for him to break free, then finally kills him and then turns its attention towards Lambert and toys with her and gives her a slow painful death, then Ripley shows up but she’s too late because she’s now seeing the corpses of Parker and Lambert, and now it’s just her all alone in the Nostromo with the Alien on board with her and not knowing where it could be, it could be anywhere. The filmmakers sure did a great job with the writing here, horror movies these days are nothing like this.
Love how rapey the alien is in the first film, penetrating its victims with its mouth or tail, it really adds to the horror and scariness of the monster

Are there some alternate shots substituted here? I feel like the rhythm of this scene is off, and I don't recall some of the shots occuring quite in the sequence we're seeing in this video (see: the Lambert close-up at 1:05 -- Doesn't that happen somewhere else in the scene?). Anyway, the fidelity of this is excellent.
Not really? The mystery and build of the first hour still holds up, the characters are still likeable, the set design is fantastic, and Goldsmith's score still lands. The only thing that didn't age as well were some of the Xenomorph and android effects.

That tail scene was actually originated from unused Bret death scene, so those were Bret legs not Lambert. Watch the extended version
Predators can sense fear. Which means easy prey while someone that isn't as scared may use resistance and as result injure the predator.

Alien 1979 upscaled to 4K from the Blu-ray version, with no DNR used. Edited and color graded in HDR and Dolby Vision. Although UA-cam currently doesn't support Dolby Vision, the video is HDR compatible. If UA-cam ever supports Dolby Vision in the future, this video should play in Dolby Vision as intended.

I just love Alien and this is one of my favorite scenes of all time in any film I’ve ever watched. Throughout the film, the character who goes off on their own is in danger. Not this time though as Ripley is safe and Parker/Lambert are not. Lambert, fearful throughout the whole film of the alien, is paralyzed with fear and cannot move even when Parker-who had a thing for her-is screaming at her to get out of the way. Then Parker tries to save her but the alien is smart enough to let him try and hits him. But this alien is my favorite because of how sadistic it is. It picks up Parker who is probably pretty strong and squeezes him so hard that he bleeds before the alien bites him in the head. Then it takes its time moving over to lambert now that it’s eliminated its biggest threat and presumably rapes her before gruesomely killing her. Meanwhile Ripley, who still has not even seen this thing yet, discovers them dead just seconds later. Tremendous scene in horror.
It's one of the few perfect movies ever made. Holds up well, too.
The way those lips peel back, and how far they peel back. Just when you think you've seen all of it's super-pissed-off mouth, it seems like there's still more teeth to show. Jesus, the look on that thing's face when it's about to pierce Parker's skull is horrific. Imagine that thing holding you in place, like you're a child (bc it's so big), and watching it sloooowly prepare to punch a hole in your skull. Good god.

God damn it, there are TWO voices screeching, breathing and making assorted noises while Ripley is running.. and Parker is already gone.. Who the Hell does that second voice belong to? Is the xenomorph imitating Lambert in some obscene mockery? Bizarre! This scene, the more you study it, more and more becomes a snapshot from Hell.
If they only listen to lambert who keep saying "Lets get the hell out of here" they would have not meet this terriying Xenomorph😅 I know its a movie but...
This scene is what supports Big Chap from the bug like Xenia later made. He is clearly enjoying the terror from Lambert and after killing Parker had his way with her. This shows a dark and dare I say human like intelligence.

This implicitly suggests the alien SA'd Lambert with it's tail. Her legs are bare when Ripley finds them. In AVP (2010) there's an attack the alien can perform on the marines in which it impales the victim by shoving it's tail in their behind ,till it's tail stinger emerges out of their mouth... It's seemingly inspired by this. Maybe the alien tried to drag her through a vent and her pants ripped off but given H.R Giger designed it, well...

Such a horrifying scene, an Alien is taking its time to kill Parker while he screams and tries to fight back but the creature’s grasp is too strong for him to break free, then finally kills him and then turns its attention towards Lambert and toys with her and gives her a slow painful death, then Ripley shows up but she’s too late because she’s now seeing the corpses of Parker and Lambert, and now it’s just her all alone in the Nostromo with the Alien on board with her and not knowing where it could be, it could be anywhere. The filmmakers sure did a great job with the writing here, horror movies these days are nothing like this.

it's very satisfying that how likable this cast is, and how all of them get memorable death scenes worthy of their performance.

Are there some alternate shots substituted here? I feel like the rhythm of this scene is off, and I don't recall some of the shots occuring quite in the sequence we're seeing in this video (see: the Lambert close-up at 1:05 -- Doesn't that happen somewhere else in the scene?). Anyway, the fidelity of this is excellent.

I know I am in the minority but this movie doesnt age well. This film was ground-breaking in 1979 but terrible to watch for the modern audience.
Not really? The mystery and build of the first hour still holds up, the characters are still likeable, the set design is fantastic, and Goldsmith's score still lands. The only thing that didn't age as well were some of the Xenomorph and android effects.
