While listening to the battle theme did anyone ever do the trademark head n shoulder sway? its the dance the characters do in battle or like what the old Mortal Kombat models used to do in default stance? Id be caught doing that when I played this game, cheezy I know but heck the whole game got to me that way.
I literally listened to this video alongside the HD Remix of the same song. Not only is that an awesome combination, but the beats-per-minute are an exact match! That spells dedication to get the timing down to such a fine degree. Some fine work right here.
I'm a huge fan, and I have watched his videos numerous times. I really, really don't want to kill the magic, but for those who don't know - he takes the MIDI files of the music, separates the different tracks, and sings along with each (thus all the different voices). That is how his timing is exactly the same. That said, he is still pristine and has amazing pitch. These are all compliments!
AtraMade Doesn't really lessen my opinion of him at all knowing that, it would be impossible for him to sync up each recording individually without some heavy duty pitch editing if he was only to sing to memory, it's better that he does it this way so the result is better and not a mess, knowing that might actually make more people try out doing an acapella using similar methods too.
As an amateur musician, I love how your arrangement enhaces the beauty of the harmony from 1:04 to 1:20 (and the repetition). It seems some kind of chromatic ascension, but I haven't analized anything. You can really appreciate the tension in those chords adding great depth to the track, in the original is harder to notice. Overall great work, but that moment is why I keep coming to this video and sing the notes stuck in my head.
Matthew Etter I'm entitled to think what I want. If you like Faux Danny Elfman orchestrations for your battle theme, that's what you can listen to on your time.
What I really love about Uematsu's songs is that they all have many nuances to them as well as tone shifts. One of the greatest boss themes in video game history, "One Winged Angel", even has those elements. It really makes the games more interesting and in depth. I'm not saying other composers don't have this, such as Yoko Shimimura and Kow Otani, but there's just something about Uematsu's style that's really unique.
This is the reason UA-cam was created. To showcase amazing, original work from innovative minds. I am sharing your videos with all my professional contacts in the hopes they contact you for using your talents in an actual game.
Yeah. I class Battle and Boss themes separate. If you're going for boss themes, you cannot beat One Winged Angel. But for a general boss theme and not unique boss theme. FF13 is definitely up there. It had some amazing music.
I'm just in complete awe.... Every.SIngle.Video is amazing. And this one just blows my mind. I hold my sticks up in the air out of respect to you good sir.
Whenever I listen to smooth mcgroove it's as if all my problems melt away from me like warm butter for those few minutes. Afterwards I'm usually left with the feeling that everything, all my issues, will be be okay. Thanks smooth for everything!
Anyone who's beaten Penance knows you have to be extremely committed to this game and/or have too much free time and/or be crazy. I listened to this track for who knows how long before getting to Penance. Good thing it's so catchy.
I find it amazing, how good your Acapellas are, they never fail to amuse me. I also love to go into the comment section and see how many people share their love for final fantasy. It is such a great game... the story, the gameplay and the amazing music. I hope I get to hear more Acapella covers from you of Final Fantasy songs. Don't stop!
Ah the good old days of Smooth Mcgroove even if he’s on twitch now I still respect everything he has worked so hard to achieve congrats on ten years on UA-cam!😊
this guy never fails to bring fun into his video's, when he isnt making music audibly he makes random stares of hilarity or plays with the cat a little (even though that can be dangerous) always enjoy vids from this guy
Yeah, bahamut is pretty damn overpowered in most ff games, but usually hard to obtain, or at least, in the games where he has multiple forms, hard to obtain the best form of
Dylan Morrison also there was a square game, though not an ff title, that had bahamut as a main figure and plot point. It was called Bahamut Lagoon and is a turn based strategy rpg along the lines of fire emblem or disgaea
Great, great stuff, Smooth! I hope you will try the battle theme from FF 9 too. It's deep drums, pumping bass, melodic synth, cheery horns and multitude of layers would sound awesome in an acapella version
Best Final Fantasy after VII in my opinion. Then again I mostly judge Final Fantasy's by their levelling system (eg. materia, sphere grid etc.) and the soundtrack.
You're right, i loved the shit outta final fantasy 10, though final fantasy 12 put up a good contest i just found it overrated and the battle system was way too tedious and downright boring
***** Well, the story line is very pollitically driven, and it's also incomplete. However, it's still a wonderful game and still one of my favorite FF's around.
I absolutely loved 3. I love the original final fantasy's and 3 was amazing with the many jobs, the remake for ds was amazing also loved the characters. And then 8 because it has th best love story :3
I have a sneaky suspicion that McGroove and I are very similar in age. I'd say he's maybe 33 based on his game selections? Haha... I really have no idea. But I definitely appreciate his retro-gaming-ness!
You might want to try and go back and play the older games like FF4, FF6, FF7, and FF8. Granted Cant that I cant say what you think is the best but FFX is only good to great, where to the older was story was awesome.(yes you had too read it all but still). I think that the voice over gave this game alot og help with telling the story, so that an avarger game became good. Would love it if the writer of the newer FF games get close too what they had in older games.
TheGismono I've played all the ones you've mentioned, but FFX's got a special place and has for me also one of the best stories :) It's a personal matter, really.
I acknowledge your opinion, however when it comes to the FF series as a whole FFVII has had the most impact on society and revolutionized the FF series which is why I honestly believe FFVII is the best of the series
Thank you :) That is true, but I wasn't really talking about the best in the series. You are right though, FF7 was very revolutionary. I love FF7 just as much, if not a little more, then X, but just as I loved 6, 9, 12 and 13 (yes 13, all three). I love that about ff, none of the games are the same. But when it comes down to the story, either X or 12 or 7 could be the one that speaks to you the most, it all comes down to those personal feelings :) Nostalgia can be a big factor too to make one think it's the best game/story ever made ^^
This was both my first FF, and the last one I enjoyed. Of course, after going "back in time", and playing a few of the older ones, this one is not that good if you compare, but still... hundreds and hundreds of hours were spent in this. Ahhhhh... good old times... R.I.P, Final Fantasy. True gamers will forever miss you. =(

What we have now is nothing but a walking corpse, with a fancy name.
my favorite final fantasy, favorite battle theme of the series, and you totally captured the essence and I love your voice and your glorious beard. I'm going to scour your vids for more ffx music and if there's no more I will cry and beg for more ffx musikz :3

1:04-1:18 is so beautiful.. My favorite part of the song. Gives me chills every time.
I agree. The harmonies there are so ethereal and great.
My favorite part
I like how he does it more than the original, actually. I hear the original, and I hum to it similar to his vocals, and there's a difference.
EVERYTHING IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD.
Oh, I know you. You did the Athena theme cover. I quite liked it. It's very enjoyable.
Harman Smith She did a lot of other theme covers. I like her Professor Layton theme called Iris.
OH MAI GAWD IT'S ADRISAURUS~
My dream video is you doing the vocals while Smooth backs you up in the background.
...Maybe someday.
Smooth, NCS and Adrisaurus, 3 of my 4 favourite tubers combined in the comments never thought I would get to see that.
I remember playing this game for the first time and just absolutely loving the fight music to the point where I fought as much as possible.
I once left a fight on doing nothing for like 2 hours just listening this song... same with FFVII - Those who Fight! ;D
Ha, yeah. Except I didn't much like this song, I always fought on the Road to Zanarkand.
***** amasing music.....listen to my music. smooth 2014

Id be caught doing that when I played this game, cheezy I know but heck the whole game got to me that way.
Who is that as your profile picture?
I respect the talent of the music composers for final fantasy games, some of the things they create...just incredible.
Masterful work. They are real composers.
+sephiroth692
FFX was composed by Uematsu and two other composers. Before that, he wrote all the music in the series solo.
+Ragesauce not just FF, Star ocean and valkyrie profile as well.
The music of final fantasy is definetely the best ever created.
+Andrew Raines If you seriously can't differentiate between Uematsu and Hamazu's work on X you need to stay far away from music.
I literally listened to this video alongside the HD Remix of the same song. Not only is that an awesome combination, but the beats-per-minute are an exact match!

Darca1n Yeah, I think it's great!
I love the enthusiasm of the percussion part at 1:05
Definitely. I can listen to that segment over and over. Nailed the ride cymbal rhythm.

This is the best battle theme in the series, and you do it great justice.
Wrong, Blinded by Light from XIII and Veiled in Black from XV are the best.
Matthew Etter ...in your opinion.
As you can tell, I'm deeply affected by your harsh words. Allow me to go cry about it for a while.
