THE RISING is a post-apocalyptic science fiction short film from Berlin. After its initial release in August 2012 the film went on a festival tour around the world for one year and subsequently was released online for free.
Summary
2057. More than 25 years have passed since the incident destroyed the planet's atmosphere. The survivors took refuge in shelters, buried deep into the ground. At surface level LE-E-003976 is gathering data and samples of the toxic environment. To this day he has never come across a single human soul on his predefined path through the bleak wastelands. Those cornstalks certainly weathered 25 years incredibly well.
Great. Unpredictable. Nice visuals.
One small rational mistake at 7:10 minutes: the soldiers would probably stop and shoot rather than keep on running behind him at this short distance.
Ammo mat be scarce and with all the different types...
He was the first and they needed him back to analyze why they were resisting
Wait a minute....you've got this guy from the future in a world that has been devastated for many years and corn stalks are still in the field...……….
0:44 is how far I made it. It's been 25 years since humans have been on the surface of the earth and the guy wakes up next to a corn field that had been cut just a few months earlier. I'm thinking these post-apocalyptic films are made by city kids who've spent most of their life in front of a video screen playing games. They seem to be completely oblivious about the world.
Or the regular spacing of what is clearly a human-planted uniculture forest. Forests don't politely order themselves in neat rows of identical species of trees all exactly the same size and age.
Water Bug it’s a film, chill out you arrogant asshole
Absolute top-five material. Every last shot was balanced, beautiful and used with intention. Frugal pacing, nice prop work and no spoon-feeding.
That cornfield looks pretty good for laying fallow for 25 years! Someone is still cutting it
Of course. The clones.
Always good to see short-form fiction.
audio and color grading were superb too
Love the dialogs specially.
Very cool!
Wow! ..Amazing! .. More please ..
Better done than most of these sci/fiction shorts. Thank-you.
Loved the cinematograpghy!
By far the best post-apocalyptic short film I've sure as hell seen. Wonderful cinematography and the locations you used are damn near phenomenal. Keep up the good work!
No, yet another degrading existentialist walk to nowhere.
A very good short
DID ANYONE NOTICE THE GUY POOPING IN THE FEILD 😂😂😂
Lets just hope Hollywood doesnt pick it up and makes it into a blockbuster ^^
This was a great short film! Make more!
Wow! I don’t get the hate for this. While not Hollywood budget it made perfect sense to me. I liked it. Sometimes your imagination has to add a bit instead of being spoon fed a story line.
Thanks man! Much appreciated.
Well done!!!
good film
Excellently constructed, filmed & produced. Conceptually wonderful. This is why I love short film
Don't care how many awards it got, stupid story line, a lot of senseless running around, no plot, no climax (unless one counts numerous head shots as climaxes), no ending. Ya gotta love the part where a lead soldier signals the other to circle around to the left... and the guy just keeps following him. Two thumbs down.
The rewards etc. are political. Movie starts with a required group-think. Conform or thou shalt receive no awards! Amazing how coordinated it is. Quite spectacularly, actually.
Very good movie. Congratulations.
Very cool, love the color and locations! FILMS!
Nicely executed!
Excellent. There are only a few videos that tell the story without words.
very nice!
Wow, MP-38! With tins-and-whistles!
I missed the plot. Anybody else?
Cloned warriors.
nice effort
WTF is with the tire tracks in the mud at 3:35 if there's no life above ground...
Helicopter?
25 years after going underground we're still making Mylar space blankets? We have better survival tech NOW. WTF?
Okay, let's say it's a timeline difference.
Better yet, let's just enjoy the entertainment. Like vampires, werewolves, and zombies creating a new society bent on procreation with normal humans.
I had a problem with the fresh harvested corn field
One of those "you gotta watch this guys".
The clones are genetically superior, thus able to survive without safety gear. The humans are out to terminate them.
Very cool story.
Nice Short Film, Keep up the amazing work, Nice job fellas :)
Thank you.
...WOWW.., Freaky..!! (..& kinda "disturbing"..) Cool song at thee end, too.., Katharina is awesome.., haunting voice..
Also if the Atmosphere was destroyed the planet would look like Mars?
Wow. This was awesome. Wish it was a full length movie, I would pay to see it / buy it.
9 mins of movie and 4 mins of credits ??LOL
The credits came on with so much time remaining that I expected a "post credits conclusion".
A very good short film
just a hint: if you're trying to convince your viewers that this is happening *25 years* after some apocalypse, you might *not* want to open with a scene of a guy in a field with the stubs of corn stalks visible. a year, maybe two, you'd see them, then they'd be gone, overgrown by other plants.
Or the fresh tire tracks??
@@kjbuchanan63 yeah, those too.
Well done!
EXCELLENT more please
So for clones read drone as in worker drone, I wonder how small the human pool has gotten, oh and 3:15 car tracks...x nicely done.
Bad-Ass!
Thoroughly enjoyed this film.
Very interesting film. Good plot. I would want to see more.
Nicely done!
Thank you.
Great concept! Ending is bit dicey but you can get the idea pretty clearly. Nice job!
good thing that last five seconds made the cut. lol
I hate to be "that guy" ..... but you forgot about the helicopter chasing them..... The helicopter just disappeared and left them alone?
Map on Bosnia and Serbia in 9:12 ?
Excellent film! Just curious, what camera did you use to shoot this on?
Thank you. We used the Red One with Mysterium X Sensor in 4,5k with Red Prime lenses.
BRAVO!!!!
Wait, the atmosphere has been destroyed, yet there's still clouds? A helicopter can fly? Sound can travel? I could understand if there was no oxygen left, but it just feels a bit implausible when you're claiming there's no atmosphere when we saw a helicopter flying and clouds...
Maybe the atmosphere reformed but with more toxic components or whatever science is behind that
At the intro of the film, when they claimed the atmosphere was destroyed, I took it to mean it was destroyed for humans (by humans). It would have also meant it was incapable of supporting animal life, but I'd think plants could and did survive - slowly replenishing the oxygen levels. Nothing else was indicated having been destroyed...so as long as there is water vapor - clouds. Atmosphere at all - sound. Low O2 levels might mean the helicopter engine wouldn't work, but they could bottle O2 to feed into the engine.
Excellent work all around! The Film doesn't try explain anything which is irrelevant for understanding whats going on, but doesn't either mystify anything, and it uses Clone-trope of the PA/Scifi genre very interesting way (clones vs clones, I assume).
Compact master piece. I Enjoyed all the time. :)
Wonderful. Great job everyone
Crazy, creepy cool!
Fantastic!!! I see you used the Red One. What lens did you use primarily? Also, do you feel the current Blackmagic Cameras are capable of this level of quality?
Really well shot, some visual story telling
+Finding Forty-Two *Some Great visual story telling
Very well made short film. Some minor points that should have been done differently.
Shot from 7:10 should have been done differently Shot 7:43 should have been cut out of it or done it differently (looked amateuristic a bit).
Other than that i gave the short film a 7/10. Well done!
I Loved!
If the Atmosphere was destroyed, there would be no life on Earth at all.
Great stuff!
This is like Aeon Flux ........done right!!!
Why are there fresh tire tracks at 3:16?
I don't think there would be noticeable remnants of cultivated fields after 25 years.
Or tire tracks in the dirt road...entertaining otherwise.
One of the absolute greatest short films on UA-cam. One of the greatest I've ever seen. Liked and subscribed, keep up the good work!
The world is devastated for at least 25 years, but trees in the "forest" (it's more a plantation) are nicely standing in straight lines, and the fields have corn stalks. Not very convincing.
For the rest: no plot, no story, no climax... very weak movie.
very good
Top notch work.I did not like being left hanging as to where those guys were going to,and what for.it seems like that is the way most of the shorts about the come back from disaster are.I would like them to give me a few more answers. But I ask to many questions, about every thing.
Make full movies!!!!
This channel doesn't make films.
They're a platform for makers of short films to show their work.
That's insane👍👍💪
Tsk... mankind's hubris is probably the worst thing you can dump into the atmosphere.
nice work
@3:27 the guy walking down a road that showed tire impressions. How are they there after 25 yrs. Another the world ending in 12 years scare movie. But for Sci- Fi does pretty well..
In the post-apocalyptic future, no one. ever. talks. :)
They have trouble remembering their lines...because of the lack of O2. Character actors. Dialog takes effort. As long as people are happy with crap then others will continue to give it to them.
Great 👍
Uhm... choosing settings... a harvested field wouldn’t have the cut stalks still remaining standing 25 years later, let alone remaining open soil with zero invasive plant growth in the field.
Best work!I really like
Nice One!!
It was shot well.
awesome
Did that one soldier had a german WWII MP40?
Not bad. It really could be longer and would be really good .
not bad at all.
I wish there were sub titles added so I could understand what the hell this was about.
Sorry but I don't know what it is about short films and creators of them that they gravitate so strongly towards post Apocalypse themes. Maybe because it's cheaper and easier just to use a handful of survivors out in the woods and bring a camera for a small scale film? Just like every other and other and other and other and other and other and other... Can someone come up with some originality?
Here’s a thought. You go make an ordinal film. You don’t have to like it they made the film they wanted to make.
There's nothing wrong with post-apocalyptic films. If you don't like such theme, why watch it?
All themes have been done before. The question is how well is it done this time? In this case, the story and directing is stupid on pixels. A *good* post apocalyptic film is well worth the watch... just like any other movie. This is not a good film regardless of theme.
Sci-fi is a very popular theme in the world of short films, and sci-fi can interweave almost any other theme into it.
Actually, that's exactly the reason a lot of new directors start out with apocalypse films, you don't need fancy sets, you can just use whatever abandoned buildings are in your town, and you don't necessarily need expensive props. And yes, a lot of these films lack a strong plot or characterization, and the acting is often so-so (hence why so many have little dialogue), but you have to start somewhere. Even a basic, low-budget movie takes a lot of hard work and time. Give the guys a break!
camera used?
this is awesome short movie..
awesome cinematography!
dont know why some didnt like this I enjoyed it clones made then being destroyed would like a more detailed explanation or more episodes well done xx
really bad even taking out the stupid 3 and half minutes of created at the end for a really short with so much wrong too much to list
cool soundtrack
Great Stuff!!!
Well Done, great concept! One minor item for next time. Great action stuff, but learn how to hold guns properly, don't let one character point the gun at another character. It is cardinal no-no of gun safety and the military. Maybe find a script supervisor. Otherwise great stuff!
Thanks, appreciate your nice words.
Anyone else notice the fresh tire tracks on the dirt road when he was pulling the cart at 3:15 min in? HD's a bitch ain't it? But overall I did like it.
Really good this was
The BBC series 'In the Flesh' is supposedly a sequel to something called 'The Rising'. Is this it or should I be looking for something else with the same title?
Thank you, Sebastian. I'll keep looking.
Yeah i thought that too, but the people mistook the information :/
These are pretty good but I always want to know a little more about what happens next.
This was just about finished
