I have used this pedal for yonks and I certainly learned some tricks I didn't know was possible. The chorus especially. I don't have a chorus on my board so might need to reserve a preset.
I've made a lot of mistakes in my life, but selling my DD-20 is not one of them... so grateful to still own it with the presets that I made in my favorite band years ago.
I am also grateful that I never sold any of my Boss pedals (I did sell a GS-10 tabletop unit to Guitar Center for like $40 when I paid $500 fot it, but it had been acting up and I didn't have any way of fixing it, it turned on, so they bought it), even in the depths of addiction. I still own all of them from my original DS-1, except for an RE-20 Space Echo that got stolen as I was going through a divorce, which I recently finally replaced. I missed it so much.
I’ve also had this pedal for over 20 years and never fully understood how to use it,I’m retired now and will start playing more.So glad I didn’t sell it, was going to do a pedal purge but can’t seem to get rid of my equipment 😂Thanks for the advice.
Considering that the DD20 can be had for about $120 used (i purchased 2nd one for a backup)I still think for money you cant beat it. Its extremely easy to program and use. I cant justify the price of the Strymon Timeline or any other expensive delays that out there. I've had this pedal for years. It gets the job done and sounds fantastic!
Totally agree!! I love my Giga delay it does everything I need it to do and more and the delay tones sound fantastic, easy to edit IMO, nice user interface and I think it looks kool, I think a lot of players will think the size of the unit is to large to put on their pedalboard but for me it’s worth the sacrifice taking up a bit more space for the £120 I paid for it. I don’t need any other delay pedals this does it for me at a great price and high quality so although they are very nice I could never warrant paying around £400 for a Strymon Timeline as I don’t think I would do that much more with it than the Giga delay. Nice video Leon
Bought this new around '99-2000 and sold it a few years later and the ease of use was simple and comprehendible. Occasionally, i look for them and have come across some minty ones a few years back but didn't pull the Trigger. Now prices are out of control and have more than my share of tasty Delays, but i always found what i needed with it. The one that got away. Always enjoy your content Leon.
I got mine for £108 second hand off the fleabay and it came through the post today. Works perfectly but has a few small chips to the paint, which I'm not bothered about in the slightest.
I got one of these today through the post and I tried it with a 9v rechargeable battery via a 9v battery cable and plug. It was alright for maybe 10 minutes and then the display started flashing on and off. So I understand why they use 6 AA batteries and not a 9v battery lol. And I opened it up and there's 3 microprocessors or processors on the circuitboard. It's a great pedal and I really like it.
Fantastic video! I grabbed one up today off of reverb and she looks mint! 150 shipping and all. I love the chorus you demoed. I don’t really want a all in one modulation pedal on my board or really don’t care for flanger or phaser. I grew up in the 80’s and just heard them way to much lol. I have dd200 I use with midi and in the effects loop. This one I was thinking front of amp. We will see. Thanks for sharing my man!
Hi Leon. Thanks for the video. I asked this question in another video of yours. Is there a way to change the head speed individually in the tape mode? I know you hold down the on/off switch for changing between one or two heads but I can’t seem to find a way to edit them separately. I see you mentioned that you can do it in this video but it was not demonstrated. Please help
Hi, I’m very new to guitar pedals and I’m getting this for a dear friend for his birthday. Does it come with a power supply typically? If not, what should I get to power it? And I assume I need to get two guitar cables to be able to use it, correct? I have seen people using four guitar cables with it and I’m not sure why or what that does. Any recommendations on specific guitar cables and power supply that you recommend for this? P.S. it will be used by itself/without a pedal board. Thank you!
Buy yourself a Boss 9v power supply. All you need is two cables. One for input and one for output. Of you need cables just get him some HOSA instrument cables.
Does it handle line-level inputs? I have a really hot effects loop that crushes my DD-6. Has anyone actually used it in a line-level loop and had it work? A simple yes/no will do.
Love this pedal entirely, but still can’t find a use for the TWIST hold . If it would go along with notes that be epic but just kinda does it’s own thing and VERY loud & off balanced . I won’t give up tho lol the musician I’m me . Cheers all .
Haha I have had this pedal for over a decade and have been trying the same. It doesn't work. I feel like if you weren't forced to let it drop in pitch it would be a cool thing for transitions, but nope. You always have to let it obnoxiously pitch shift and slow down forever
what i've always wondered is, what type of delay is the "modulate" setting using, standard? digital? analog? I've always struggled to get it sounding as good on the DD-500!
Sweet demo! It sounds and looks cool, my question, is it possible to make DD20 sound like DD3 Boss Delay? Which one is better in your opinion? Regards!

I agree. The DD20 is just a good pedal. In some ways never beaten by the other DD “single” pedals
thanks for sharing all of your expertise on this pedal, really helpful that you went through so many settings and sounds.
Best review of the DD20 on UA-cam, thanks mate!
Hey Leon, top video! Man, never knew you could change ‘rate’ & ‘depth’ on the modulation setting! 👌thanks! By the way, fantastic sounding guitar.
It's so handy being able to tweak those. I intended to do more distorted clips but was vibing too hard on those cleans!

Glad I own this have you found the hidden features yet you can actually get a good shimmer modulation and sounds so cool stereo as well :)
Shimmer modulation you say? Teach me!
Ditto!
Not what we know as shimmer effect by any means in this pedal. “Shimmery modulation” would be a more accurate description of what it can do.
Wonders what this setting might be?
Josh L Nothing like cascading octaves.
I can see why it's a favorite, Great explanation and pedal! Well done Leon! Enjoyed that country shuffle!
Thanks brother!
great review and explanation of how to use pedal. Thanks
My pleasure!
Thanks so much for the tips! Years ago I bought this pedal, new, and am now just doing a deep dive into the versatility of it!
Isn't it great pulling out an old pedal and finding something new and inspiring? F*** yeah!
It just has a vibe to it! I love mine!
wow. great stuff. thanks for sharing.
I'm working on collecting as many Boss twin pedals as I can, I have the RE-20, RC-20XL, and just got an OD-20, I need one of these now.
Just ordered one, with a box and Japanese instructions for $120.99 (the box was only 99 cents more, I couldn't pass it up).
I've found cranking up the tone control on the analog mode gives you a pretty convincing Echorec sound.
I love this pedal. It has caused me to sell most of my other delays!
Such a helpful demo. Thank you.
Much appreciated.
After this video, I found one, a local guy selling one. I got it two days ago. It's awesome.
I only clicked to see the sos mode, or 'loopa', and it's the only mode you skipped over hahaha

dd20 is fabulous that it dd500 cant kick it off the board.
Even now with the DD-200 mostly eclipsing the DD-20's role, I have a hunch the lower bit depth and sample rate of this guy is part of the magic.
It's a top notch pedal in it's own right. Probably never sell mine.

From memory you cans witch back and forth between a saved preset and the "live" mode.
Can you use each side of the two pedals on this two have two different delays set?

Hi. Juste turn down the level knob...
Can you get a Hendrix sound out of this pedal ? if not which one to go for ?
What does it mean "hendrix sound" for a delay? He used single coils, Marshalls, wha, fuzz, octaver and univibe. Possibly reverb added in studio.
@@lovecraftmusic8717i think op is referring to an echoplex. Which hendrix did use on some tunes. Most notably voodoo child

Can the DD20 do the stutter effect?
Hey. No sadly it can’t. It CAN but unlike the DD3 it doesn’t stop when it’s supposed to
Do you find it helps running the output at +4 db?
In the loop, yes
I’ve had a timeline and this I think this is better they just have snazzier ads
If you rehouse it, it’s even cooler!
Been thinking about that for a while
And most companies an extra switch for Tap Tempo
