Some areas of my shop are poorly lit and when I'm working there I find myself having to either relocate or jury rig up some sort of lighting solution so that I can see what I'm doing. Well enough is enough! I designed a gantry and articulating arm system that allows me to position a work light in just about any position to completely do away with any dimly lit areas of my shop. Furthermore, I designed it in a way where it can be hoisted up and out of the way when not in use. Another nice feature is that it can also hold my cameras to get me more interesting angles that my ordinary tripod just can't do. So what are you waiting for? Check out the video and then pick up the plans to build one for your own workshop!
Outstanding. That's gotta be one of your brightest ideas yet...
ding, ding,, we have a winner!
lol
Oh well done good sir... well done indeed.
Its the lighter side of woodworking
@@mj-lp5eb Your puns really *brighten* my day.
*Ba-dum, tss*
The outtakes remind me a lot of when I’m working in my woodshop except that I don’t have the nice tools or the good lighting or the hair. On second thought it’s nothing like me working in my shop.
"... to hopefully minimize the damage when I inevitably walk into it later." I felt this in my soul.
Drew, You have a wonderful self deprecating sense of humor. My wife and I love these UA-cam videos, especially your outtakes. I have always been curious about your garage. I think to myself how nice and informative it would be for you to build a vertical plywood type saw like they have at the big box stores. You could place it in the garage, cut lumber stock down making it easier to get into you basement shop. I'm sure your neighbor ( love that reference) has all the lumber you'd need. Just a thought. Thank you for your skills and humor. Your one of the few channels that inform, entertain and challenge us to be better Carpenters and don't add alot of useless chatter and music god only who likes. Thanks Drew.
Dude this is the smartest thing i‘ve ever seen in a shop... 😂😂🤩
The camera dolly function is a major plus.
How are you not starring on every woodshop tv show as a host ? You have the skills and especially the voice !
Such a great video. I can only imagine how must time you invest in designing, building, filming, and editing these high quality productions for us. I really appreciate all the time you take Drew.
-Nick 😃👍
Thanks Nick! It's comments like this that keep me going!
Love your little princess hands! This is really cool Drew!
Haha, thanks Zach!
“Flight of the Navigator” anyone? Nice work! Now just but the gantry on two parallel gantries and you’ll be UNSTOPPABLE!
I felt every second of that wrenches outtake right in my soul.
Love the bloopers. Very nice work. First time I have ever seen anyone do that for a light.
Lol! The wrenches at the end, we've all been there brother.
This is why I'm partial to crescent wrenches.
This is a great idea. Using it with the camera was a great idea as well.
Your humour is spot on just as your projects 👍 🤣
Another winner, Drew. Thanks for the laughs. Even though you tied it up BEWARE things have a way of "attacking" when you least expect it.
Thanks, Steve!
That was one of the coolest shop upgrades I have seen!
Thanks! :)
One of the best DIY woodworkers on the YT. It`s a shame he has only 184k subs. Greetings from Serbia.
You should seriously have your own show on TV Sunday mornings.
“Small princess hands” HILARIOUS!
I haven't commented on a video in the 10 years I've been on UA-cam, but this deserves an applause 👏 👏 👏 . What an absolutely genius idea! I'm planning this as my project of the day, thanks for the idea! Keep up the great work!
Wow, thank you! Glad you liked it!
I wanna make one for over my fabrication table, something to hold, drill, screws, glue bottle and stuff like that during assembly time!! Good stuff Drew!!
Thanks. Glad it was helpful
Thanks for adding the outtakes. It made me feel better.
I like the lighting idea and your sense of humor, Great video of step by step assembly.
Very cool build drew. Your way smarter than you look. I especially like the way you supported the beam without the help of your three legged coffee table possessing neighbor.
Great addition to your shop . . . Mine too! Love the humor mixed in with actual information pertinent to what you’re doing.
Just noticed that you are a LEFTY!
Keep producing these top quality videos and I’ll do my part by watching them. Sounds like a Win / Win situation to me.
Now I must head over to your website and make a few purchases.
Dorald
Congratulations, not only refreshingly honest and funny, very informative
Thanks, Janice!
Great build, Drew. You struck a nerve with me when you mentioned looking for the tool you just had in your hand.
Outstanding video. Love the bloopers. Really appreciate your talent and humor. Kudos!
Thanks so much!
Hello, from Chihuahua Mexico, is the first time I have the opportunity to see your videos and you are funny and amazing, keep up with the good work and you have one more subscriber, GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
Muchas gracias!
Gracias.
High quality, clean and entertaining. Appreciate your videos
Thanks, Robert!
I love it, truly a bright idea.
Dude!!! You forgot to add a cupholder!!!
Great build!
Fantastic. And you are hysterical!
You have earned a new subscriber. I have watched every video. I appreciate your projects, videos, commentary. Instructions, and sense of humor. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Thanks! And welcome
I made a similar thing without the trolley, but out of steel. I love the idea of using stationary casters for your trolley, brilliant!
Thanks, Josh!
Oh you do bring some light in to my life Drew. Thank you 😊
Any time!
Side benefit: Artificial sunshine to help in the middle of depressing grey Michigan winters.
Great video again Drew! I must say though, the commentary is the best. Thanks for injecting the great humor in all of your videos, and thanks for sharing. Felix
You're very welcome, Felix! Thanks for watching
Enjoyed the video. Great work light. Enjoyed the bloopers too. Thanks for taking the time to produce the video. Y'all take care and God bless.
Thanks, Ron. You too!
Brilliant!! I've got a lower shop ceiling (in a 140-year-old house!) which makes stationary lighting a bit tougher, but a minor mod or two, and that gets fixed with one or two of these little gems!! Thanks for a great idea...and design! :-)
Yup! Easily changeable for lower ceilings.
Cool idea, keep up the good work. Love the humor and the outtakes at the end.
Thanks!
I wanna come up with something clever to say but I haven’t been watching long enough. Binge watching doesn’t always help but I’ll be here whenever you need me. Always watching. 👍
Thanks for watching! :)
COOL. A NEW VIDE... oh...
very beautiful!
This a great ideia. Love how you bring everything together and how you're sharing your plans with the community. And the cherry on the cake are the outages at the end. I love those. Gonna put one of these together to set up my camera. Thanks a million!
Good project Well presented. I appreciate the brisk pace you achieved via editing. Bravo.
Just gotta say I came across your Channel and I absolutely love your humour were cut from the same cloth. Hilarious comments in all these videos I’m watching useful information also.
Welcome aboard!
You need your own tv show !
Not gonna lie, I knew going into this video this project has a zero percent chance of me doing in my shop, I typically come here just for the entertainment. Keep up the videos.
You and about 75% of my audience. :)
What a great idea that appears to have many potential uses. I think I might try an adaption of the arm to hold a crown guard over the table saw. Thanks for posting.
Good idea
Excellent idea and I love the outtakes hahaha
I have watched many of your videos and you are my new radio
What a fine idea and make a nice camera arm as well... off to the workshop!
What a great Idea Drew!! You'll get a lot of use out of it I'm sure..... 👍👍
Thanks, Mike! Yeah this oughta help quite a bit. Now I just gotta upgrade my lights with LEDs.
congrats on 200K subs! You have come a long way, Drew. You should do a 200K special.
Thanks!!
Fabulous video Drew as always! Same problem here, the wrench you need is always on vacation while you stay home and work! Thanks for sharing :)
Haha, thanks Regina!
You should name it Wicket, as it hangs around the shop and lights up your life!
The last outtake pretty much sums up my experience with every open-end wrench I’ve held...
I have to make a 30 to 4p second treck each time. Sucks.
nice humor, probably took a long time todo the animated sequence, a pixar moment !
Looks like an awesome edition to the shop.
Love your videos. I bought your plans for the flip cart , it works perfectly and it gave me back some real estate in my shop. Thank you.
Thanks Rich! Glad it turned out good for ya
This is simply awsome! I am planing in building my own shop in my garage. And this is going in there for sure! Love it!
Awesome! Glad you liked it!
Hi Drew,
Thanks for the laughs and the inspiration!
You sure earned the thumbs up!
/Lars
Thanks Lars
Hahaha. The final blooper had me dying! Hahaha. I appreciate your mild humor so much! Lol.
Thanks, Kyle!
I don't know why you don't have more subscribers? This channel is woodworking gold.
Thanks, Mike! Spread the word. :)
Nice job fella!
Love the out-takes 😆😆😆
Oh man I’m super jealous. The camera aspect of this has got to be liberating. I guess I’ll have to go make one myself, nice Drew!
Haha, get crackin' Chris!
You are a genius. I have to steal this idea. Thank you for sharing.
You got it!
I can't decide which I like more; your creativity or your sense of humor! Keep up the great work. I absolutely love your videos!!
Thanks, Paul! :)
"200lb bucket of lard test" LOL
Love watching your videos - easy to follow and always entertaining!
Glad you enjoyed it
Drew, you should come visit. You'd feel right at home here. Carrying wood into your basement looks like it is just as hard as it is for my shop. I had to move the fridge once when trying to bring in something particularly large.
Nice gantry, and I'm jealous of how high your basement ceilings are.
Thanks, Art! Can't believe I only dinged the wall once when bringing down those 12-footers. :)
@@FishersShop Can only imagine what it's like when you try to bring in some plywood sheets...
i love your videos man. you are a genius. and the outtakes at the end....makes me feel so much better
Glad you like them!
I love it!!!!!
Can I just say you are freaking hilarious? Oh and I learn stuff too. Thanks for doing these.
Thanks! :)
Another great video Drew. They get better every time!
Thanks, Kevin!
Very cool. Great Idea. Well implemented.
And ... thanks for the out-takes! :)
Great project and fun to build. One addition is to attach a cord to the gantry and using two pulleys will make it much easier to move.
Fascinating. Well done.
Awesome job man! I have been meaning to do this for AGES.......
You are just like a farmer! Always outstanding in your field! Great job! Have a better day!
That's a quality Dad joke right there. :)
Well done Drew!!!!
Thanks, Andy!
My wife always know when your new video is out... All the laughing sounds that suddenly appears is a sure sign. The last scene with the wrench keys almost made my underwear involentary wet..... Thanks for your positive attitude - you're a great gain for UA-cam
Thanks, Lars!
Nice indeed. Thanks for great videos.
Cool and fun. Thanks for sharing your work!
Love your presentation in your videos. You are very funny and entertaining. Content is great. Keep up the good work, I look forward to more. Thx for sharing,
Always love the outtakes.
Missed seeing your little buddy come to help you.
Awesome as always!
Oh! Buy some stepper motors and make it automated! Then set up some motion capture cameras in your shop so the arm always knows where you are and you could have the thing follow you around and always shine a light in your face! :D Pretty sure most of the software for this is out there for free, though you would need some coding to get it all to work together. But it would be awesome! Then you could hook it up to an Alexa and name it Jarvis and say "Jarvis, pack it up for today" and the arm would automatically fold up into the ceiling. Then you just need to build a bulletproof magic flying suit! Out of wood of course!
I was just thinking about something like that for extra light. Thanks for doing all the work!!!
You're welcome. :)
Another awesome video! Great job! That is a super functional addition to the shop for sure!
Yeah it's been great! Thanks, Tim!
I really enjoy your style of videos. The narration is lively and your honesty and transparency is refreshing. Well done you!
Thanks!
Loved this video, very cool and satisfying to watch!
Awesome project . Love it.
Thanks!
Dude, I PMSL at your humour, it's brilliant... Your woodworking is good too
Brilliant! Kind regards from Scotland.
Glad you liked it!
Hola! 🖐Bravo! 👏This is absolutely awesome, the video is on par with the project too. I can see how this will assist you in your One Man Shop. Take care and have a good one, Adios! 👊
Yup! I just used it the other day!
Very nice! That would be VERY handy in my shop! Thanks for the idea!
You're very welcome
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
Brilliant!
