I agree, the pace, voice over, and humor are great. Just bought 4 of your plans... I should have bought this one.... maybe next time... I really need wood storage... Excellent job....
Don’t feel bad last month I pulled my back and as my wife was driving us home from some errands I made her pull over and pick up 2 crappy boards from the middle of the road (as I could barely walk)that must’ve fallen from someone’s truck lol..I also get and rip down any pallets I can get lmao. wood isn’t cheap nowadays n I’m broke, picked the worst time to start woodworking as a hobby, at the beginning of COVID when lumber prices skyrocketed that’s when I decide to start woodworking smdh .. love every video of yours I’m watching your back catalogue religiously! Especially build videos, keep it up! So glad Jonathan kats turned me on to your channel
I pulled my back with a side of sciatic nerve PAIN 🤕 in 2020, also at the beginning of Covid, and as I was "healing" I discovered these YT videos. Ditto currently (Aug 2022) and though I now have a collection of wood from breaking down pallets and "collecting" haha, I can't wait for this episode of excruciating pain to subside to get out there and build. Good luck to you Fabian. 👊 A big high five 🖐 to your wife for dodging cars to pick up those boards for you 👍
Love this design of a French Cleat as it can hold tools in cases and makes the strongest Shelf Bracket I've ever seen without screwing into studs! Thank You for the Plans!!
Congratulations on your videos. It is very good to see its simplicity as well as its qualities ... Many err, hide, but you show us your mistakes ... Great men are like this ... I thank you for the teachings and wish you much success and health. Big hug from Brazil. Said Choucair
You are one of my favorite woodworkers to watch. Your videos are applicable to the common woodworker and the videos allow for proper execution of the project along with the comic relief we all need! Simple solution for your glue bottle.... you could use the unmentionable pallet wood to make a 6 inch by 1 1/2 inch with a tapered notch that fits under the cap. Makes for a nice lever for those of us that get on in years or forget to clean the tip before we close the bottle. I’ve actually changed over to a Gluebot. Great investment! Btw, eventually everyone is going to want their “appropriated” lumber back! lol
Fine craftsmanship! I'm a plumber, I evenly space 2x4s along my wall with holes drilled into them at a slight upward angle with a drill bit guide made from a piece of 2x4. Then took old 1/2" galvanized water lines I removed from various jobs and made lots of 3 different length rods I could put in the holes at different alignment and heights. I have material as short as 3' up to 20' on there. Only cost was 8 2x4s. Took about 3 hrs all time involved and works slick!!
I perform roadside wood rescues as well - my wife has criticized this many times - until several pieces get used to make something she needs. - But somehow in all of this, her hording many bits & pieces "just in case" can never be brought into question...
I like it and the way you built the wood holders you have room below the top cleat to put in a block of wood to lock it down and make it absolutely tornado proof. Works good on lots of cleat accessories that may come off due to the item stored in it. Please do an in-depth video of air compressor system that I can remotely start i.e, I’m wanting to store inside my workbench and have a panel on outside that allows me to start, stop, have air filter and oiler and here is the kicker, discharge the air and moisture automatically when done using it. I don’t keep my compressor pressurized. Thank you, great channel!
I think this is the absolute best version of a lumber rack I have seen! Amazing design! I believe that I want to do this for my shop! Thank you very much for this video!
I absolutely love this idea!!!!!!! I love all of the jointery that’s going on. I’ve watched about 20+ videos and this will definitely be the one I use. Now just to figure out an easy way to attach it to cinder blocks! This is SUPER informative and definitely doable for all intermediate woodworkers like myself. Very nice video.
Wow. I love it. Such an enjoyment watching your video and narration. It is the best. So proud of you. My friend once told me I was a hoarder. I'm going to open a Facebook account on hoarding and call it something else because there is no such thing as hoarding it's call caring for the earth. Working in the building industry all my life we see good materials, old wood all thrown into the bin to be taken away for landfill. The ones who collect this are mindful souls. We can find a use for it one day. And so it sits in your yard for ten years so you decide to dump it. The following week you have a project and needed that something you just threw in the dumpster. I love your cleats and the process you went through. To the point I got to question if the wall stud work can handle the quantity you put on the wall. I have tin sheds so I cannot build these cleats so I started welding. Once again brilliant video. I enjoyed it immensely. I question if insulation is really necessary. We know insulation prevents cold or hot entering areas. We also learn once an abundance of heat or cold does get in it takes longer to expel . Unless you have plenty ventilation. Trees are the best form of stabilising or keeping cool where I live at least.
Mesmerizing to watch. A real skilled craftsman at work making a long and tedious job look easy and quick, and with the most thoughtful details in the design. I couldn't believe I watched the whole thing
I’m with you “ waist not: want not!” Just love your builds.. I’m getting ready to start a new shop that his a 40’ x 14” storage building that I had moved in last year. The folding table cart is on the list as I looking at CNC machine. Looking at lumber storage to go over the miter saw area.
I have to say that I have been somewhat closed minded about french cleat versatility, but no more thanks to your enlightening videos. Gracias Keep em coming! Stay safe and have fun...
Very engaging! I was riveted to the French cleat wood racking system thanks to well done videography and narration (and good humor) covering all the details. Nice job! Thank you.
i think that is the beeeeest video i've ever SEEN !! Especially that trick about sawing an area to chip out that'll let a blade in. THANKS DUDE !! Great narration too (after a KAJILLION years of messing around I got this done - ha ha)
Nicely done. Clearly capable woodworker, great humor, creative work, humble. Nothing worse than trying to learn new techniques from someone who thinks they know it all...which are 99% of all other channels.
Always good to take something that was headed to the landfill ,and get some use out of it.All that wood deemed to short to be any good is now being put to work in your shop. Awesome project
Its great to know, I'm not the only hoarder of wood scraps. Lol, I've used the French cleat to hang art work (other peoples art) now I have to try it for all my scraps. Great idea..............Love the video.........
Can never ever get enough of your humour ! You don't just make things, you make them interesting as well. Think I could watch your vids. for hours on end... lol thks
Thanks for your outtakes at the end of your videos! I am a new maker/builder and absolutely LOVE knowing mistakes, small or big, are part of the process. They’re also really funny most times!! This cleat system is ingenious, by the way! Now I know how I’m going to store my scraps!!
That has got to be the nicest wood rack I have ever seen. I am beginning to really appreciate the versatility of the French Cleat System. Nice job on making those mortises without the use of a chisel! Bill on the Hill... :-)
Well done. After doing a bit of woodworking and video production, I thought, wow this video and wood project together took a lot of time. This guys has got way too much time on his hands. And recording the process of building slows down the building quite a bit. Respect.
I loved this video. Well narrated, good editing, great design and advice. I am amateur wood worker in my day dreams which means reality is that I have my dad's old tools hiding (Shopsmith V) in my crowded garage. Once I have time to clean the garage to make a workshop, I want to do this for organization as well as wood storage. One thing that might be neat is I saw one UA-camr edit his hammering into a little tune when he has a lot of nails to drive in. I thought of that when you were screwing in the cleats to the wall.
"Well," he concluded with a smirk and an incomprehensible glare, "that was rude!" Great work. Thanks for sharing. Great video. Great project. Great video editing. Great narration. Appreciate your style and sense of humor, sir!
I appreciate the excellent videography, the patience with your wise little man, the honesty, and the novel approaches to French cleats (that are getting plenty of air time lately).
Well done man! I just finished my lumber rack not long ago and I am cutting the video for it this week. It will be cool to compare different solutions for the same problem.
Fantastic! Just what I have been looking for. Have started a French Cleat system and am planning on expanding and including a lumber rack. Thanks for the detailed info; it will come in handy.
EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT Video! I am planning to make a French cleat wall to accommodate my varied computer peripherals including printers, scanners, and monitors. I was wondering about the strength of my upcoming system, and this video answered ALL of my questions and concerns. Thank You!
Nicely done, and many thanks for the vid. I've been looking at various systems to neatly store my "collection" and yours is the best, by far. It's so hard to discriminate between what to save and what to scrap. Truth be told, there is always a use for that piece sometime, somewhere down the road. I treat my wood scrap like potato chips. I never discard any just because some are smaller or more oddly-shaped than others. They WILL be consumed eventually, no matter what...Thanks again, sir.
What a refreshing and educational video! I am always looking for ways to consolidate & organize my workshop, and I got some great tips from your video. Thanks.
Don’t comment often but had to say I enjoyed watching this, good skill, simple and direct narration with my kinda humor. Great job all around. Subscribed.
Love this video and the work...and the humor - the whole 9 yards....but seriously, you need a wood stove to help sort out some of that stuff. I have a wood boiler next to my shop....and every now and then I actually (don't tell my wife) throw a piece of lumber in there....but not very often...which is why I think this week I'll get busy and build a system like this. Thanks.
Great video man. I remember seeing this video a long time ago. I think this was the first time seeing/hearing about french cleats. I'm not a carpenter, but I love doing little projects around the house. Last weekend I hung 3 cabinets using the french cleats set up. :) It came in really handy since the studs for 2 of the cabinets were setup 19.5" on center. I was expecting 16" on center on all of the framing.
GREAT project. It really does feel good getting organized. Of course you could have spent a couple of thousand dollars and got a fancy pre-made rack and saved all the time cutting, sanding, routing, cutting and more routing then final sanding. Seriously, you can't beat a French Cleat system. If you decide to put a cabinet on that wall - no problem. Nicely done ! !! !!!
Great build, i love the French Cleat system so versatile for moving stuff, or when you get fed up and want to add something else. Well Done. Barry (ENG)
I moved about 4 years ago and my workshop went from a two car garage to a 10x16 area of the basement. Needless to say, I don't get anything done anymore as I either can't find what I need or, by the time I've found it, I have lost all motivation. This project though, restored my hopes of one day being able to start up again. Thanks
Wow ! Such a simple idea for wood storage , I'm definitely going to be having a go at making this for my shed wall. It looks great , tidy and clean well thought out👍
So nice to be able to make the things you need instead of buying, especially when the things you make help keep things tidy so you can make EVEN MORE THINGS....like clamps.
For starters, great French cleat idea. For a cheap man with his wood, you have some nice machinery. Big space too. Loved the video. Nice to see you don't take yourself too seriously either.
The organization of your lumber at the beginning of the vid tho... Something beautiful. Also really enjoy the quips throughout. ...had to edit: the organization at the end too! Man! An OCD dream!
I like your ideas and videos. You seem like a likable kinda guy. As I mentioned in another video comment, I get your sense of humor. Please keep up your great work/videos.
Great video! Nice job of explaining step by step what you we’re doing. This is one of the best videos I’ve seen on UA-cam not only for content but it was well thought out and even had some humor.
I don’t do any kind of woodwork.. yet. But this system gives me a lot of inspiration for printing a cheap 3d bracket system for shelves. Thanks for making this.
Really like your system, you designed it very well! I’m like you in that I can’t pass up a free piece of wood or even one I have to pay for. That being said just pray you never have to move, because of business we had to move five times in six years. The movers loved it! Charged more to move my shop and it’s contents than all the rest of the house combined! After the third set up I resorted to Costco 18” x 48” x78” wire rack shelving. At $80 a piece and combined with some full size 12”x 12”x 18” commercial milk crates all my cutoffs finally had a portable home that locked nicely into the shelves at 3 per shelf. By aligning 3 shelves on each u it at the same height I was able to accommodate all the 8’ - 10’ stuff. By attaching an 8”x8” angle brackets to the bottom of each vertical post I was able to also hang some sheet goods and plywood across the back of the units as well. As each rack is rated for 600 lbs per shelf and on locking 4” wheels, they could easily be rolled right into the movers van. The only downside was the buyers all wanted the shelving to be left as part of the house sale!!!
Yeah I'm not looking forward to having to move the shop when it comes time. Can't imagine doing it 5 times! But I guess out of it comes ingenuity like what you found. Great work, Ken! :)
Like most of us! I have a Dewalt dwe 7480 table saw, a Bosch table top router table, etc. But it is nice to see your channel because you make some really awesome projects with what most people have in their garages or basement shops. I like watching a channel that makes me want to get out to my own shop and build something.... unlike other UA-camrs whose shops are so nice..... that after watching one of their videos....I get the urge to light my shop on fire.....
+Joseph Robbins haha thanks, Joseph! I’m slowly starting to accrue some decent tools as I grow my shop but you’re right. Most people can do more than they think with less than they think... if that makes sense. Lol
I liked not only the topic of the video but edit, pace, voice over, and humor also===well done 5 stars
Thank you very much, ricky!
Completely agree. Pace was spot on imo.
I agree, the pace, voice over, and humor are great. Just bought 4 of your plans... I should have bought this one.... maybe next time... I really need wood storage... Excellent job....
I completely concur with your comment. Great work.
Hats off to your wife for allowing you all the free time... Also nice editing!
Thanks
Had to play the "I think I have to many clamps ... said no one ever" part to my wife multiple times. Great vid!
Haha! Thanks!
I did too. I always need more clamps !!
Free plans! Can't follow them, don't own enough clamps :(
Mine still doesn't believe that. I've argued this point with her. After the 40th, she was asking for mercy. Guess I'll take a break...for now.
For anyone not sure it’s at 7:38
Love this design of a French Cleat as it can hold tools in cases and makes the strongest

I remember when my "bestest buddy in the world" helped his "old pops" do things in the garage. God I miss those days.
Haha. I'm so with you, I have fricken lumber all over the place! I have a serious problem not wanting to throw any piece of scrap away.
My Michigan brother! It's compulsory. I'll pick up a gnarly-looking piece and just laugh. "Why on Earth did I save this?"
Oh it’s always for a cutting board or handle or some other reason we talk ourselves into
@@whosaidthat5236 And a week after you throw something away, you need it.
That is the same for ALL of us!! LOL!
Narration is over the top funny! We share sense of humor. Nice work!
I've literally been moving my piles of wood into one spot to make a French cleat system. You're the best! I wasn't sure how to go about it
I think this is the absolute best version of a lumber rack I have seen! Amazing design! I believe that I want to do this for my shop! Thank you very much for this video!

Literally subscribed as soon as I saw the kid. Woodworking plus kids makes my heart happy. Be well sir.
As others have said... an interesting topic, but the style and sense of humor... BRILLIANT! Well worth a subscribe.

Sounds great! Get to work!
Your humor and sense of irony is so funny. I've had so much fun watching your videos.
Yours is the best design for my small shop. Guess I need to build one. Thanks for all your great videos, have watched them all, some several times👏
Thanks 👍
I have to say that I have been somewhat closed minded about french cleat versatility, but no more thanks to your enlightening videos. Gracias
Keep em coming! Stay safe and have fun...
Thanks, Emil!
Very engaging! I was riveted to the French cleat wood racking system thanks to well done videography and narration (and good humor) covering all the details. Nice job! Thank you.
Not only are you a good woodworker, you're also a good comic. I need to build a lumber rack and this jumped up in my feed. Thanks.
i think that is the beeeeest video i've ever SEEN !! Especially that trick about sawing an area to chip out that'll let a blade in. THANKS DUDE !! Great narration too (after a KAJILLION years of messing around I got this done - ha ha)
What a fantastic demonstration and brilliant idea.
Many thanks!
Wow! Bravo...well done. That's a project that requires a lot of careful planning and work.
Nicely done. Clearly capable woodworker, great humor, creative work, humble.

You're voice is awesome. You make me feel like I'm young again watching This Old House with my Dad

You're very welcome, Jared! :)
I have watched A LOT of videos and I think your video taught me the most! Thank you VERY much! Great job!
Aerodynamic as a retired aircraft mechanic, I approve. We'll done. As I prepare to move and start my own shop, thank you.
Go for it!
That has got to be the nicest wood rack I have ever seen. I am beginning to really appreciate the versatility of the French Cleat System. Nice job on making those mortises without the use of a chisel!

Thanks, Bill!
Well done. After doing a bit of woodworking and video production, I thought, wow this video and wood project together took a lot of time. This guys has got way too much time on his hands. And recording the process of building slows down the building quite a bit. Respect.
this is sick. Wish I had the tools AND the patience to do it myself. Thanks for sharing!!
I loved this video. Well narrated, good editing, great design and advice. Once I have time to clean the garage to make a workshop, I want to do this for organization as well as wood storage. Oh man, look at all that room on the floor for more wood!
No more tools first!!
It'll be easier if you just buy a bigger house..lol Awesome idea and great instructional video. 2 THUMBS UP 👍👍 and consider me a subscriber.
"Well," he concluded with a smirk and an incomprehensible glare, "that was rude!"

I appreciate the excellent videography, the patience with your wise little man, the honesty, and the novel approaches to French cleats (that are getting plenty of air time lately).

Nice vid.
French Cleats are one of those things that works and it's closer to the walls than anything else great job on that thumbs up my friends
Very nice. My wife will enjoy getting to se the garage floor again after this project.

I'm a wood horder myself. Loved the video, especially the commentary!
Glad you enjoyed!
Yes nice and clean makes it a safer shop and less ( trip's) to the hospital. Cheers Robbie from Huyton UK
I've never laughed so hard at anybody's woodworking videos! Great instruction, ideas, and laughs!
Don’t comment often but had to say I enjoyed watching this, good skill, simple and direct narration with my kinda humor. Great job all around. Subscribed.
Thanks, Zach. Welcome!
I don't think this system is right for my needs but man those brackets are awesome and they look great!!!
I'm very much impressed by the bulk of the lumber holding arms that you made that fits into the French cleat system they look very strong
That's a lot of clamps. I love it ! I love the versatility of the French cleat system. Thanks for sharing. -Will
Thanks, Will!
This is awesome! I love the attention to detail. If its worth doing, its worth overdoing!!! It is true: you can never have enough clamps!
Instructive AND Bucket ‘O Lard Certified Strength! Love it. Keep em coming!
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for taking the time to produce them. Y'all take care and God bless.

always love your videos, practical , good education and love the humor :) my favorite is still when you "liberate" some lumber :)
Great video man.

Haha, thanks Stephen!
Great build, i love the French Cleat system so versatile for moving stuff, or when you get fed up and want to add something else. Well Done.
Barry (ENG)
Thanks, Barry! Couldn't agree more!
I really liked the video. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and I have to say you have a voice that would do very well reading an audiobook. Great video
Haha, thanks Evan. Maybe you'd like my podcast then? It's called WeBuiltAThing on iTunes.
Been using French Cleats as my shop organizing strategy for years...this is a great adaptation! 👍
Great personality and informative yet entertaining on a humanist level.
Great idea...... Thanks, Kathy
Great idea and presentation. Gotta like having your helper there too.
Thanks
Awesome! Glad to hear it, Ron!
Wow !
Such a simple idea for wood storage , I'm definitely going to be having a go at making this for my shed wall.
It looks great , tidy and clean well thought out👍
Really nice idea to make some sturdy french cleats
So nice to be able to make the things you need instead of buying, especially when the things you make help keep things tidy so you can make EVEN MORE THINGS....like clamps.
I built these as specified in the video and stored over 100 lbs of oak on a pair of them for over two years. Good design, no issues.
For starters, great French cleat idea. For a cheap man with his wood, you have some nice machinery. Big space too. Loved the video. Nice to see you don't take yourself too seriously either.
That does look like a lot of work, but also looks like an invaluable solution to a nagging problem. Good work man
Great build my friend! Great build! Humor is my style! You probably even like the movie "Three Amigos"!
Great project and great humor
Great video. Thank you. I will be using this in my new shop. I loved your narrative, and your instruction is easy to follow. What a great project!
Thanks, Julia!
Thanks!
I've got the same lumber problem lol my garage has wood all over the place. This is an awesome build. I can't wait to build this!
Your vids are not only very educational but more importantly funny!!!!!
Great video! Nice job of explaining step by step what you we’re doing. This is one of the best videos I’ve seen on UA-cam not only for content but it was well thought out and even had some humor.
Well thanks, Scott
I don’t do any kind of woodwork.. yet. But this system gives me a lot of inspiration for printing a cheap 3d bracket system for shelves. Thanks for making this.
That was awesome...And a ton of work. Love that sense of humor.
Love the project and your humor !
Simple yet elegant and strong as can be. Another great video
Thanks Andy
You rock man, your videos are well made, and you have lots of great ideas I want to implement in my shop.
Wow! That is A LOT of cleats! Really neat! I guess you're keeping busy through the lock down. And look at all that unused floor space!
Lol
