I just love that now I know more of your story I can see how God has redeemed your life and is using you to be the mama for so many people. Not only your beautiful children, but I know I was drawn to your channel when looking for encouragement as a young mom far from my family. You have become this surrogate mother to so many people and modeled what it looks like to be a healthy nurturer for those of us that didn’t have that in our own moms. Not only that but now you are helping us feed our families and feeding your family too so that none of us have to go hungry of be without ❤️ . You are a picture of redemption and restoration. Thank you for sharing your story with us

I remember in the beginning of the pandemic you talked about “ a year without the grocery store “. Everyone should have a pantry to fall back on. I was raised very poor and we always stocked up on garden foods in the summer and what we could find at the store to stock up on year round. Great job Jammerril!

People really don't understand how many cans it takes to make a meal with a couple servings of leftovers for a large family. I've only had 4 kids at home for the past few years, but near the beginning of the plandemic shut downs I was at Costco and I added two cases of tomato sauce and two cases of diced tomatoes to my cart. I was given MAJOR stink face by a woman who happened to be in the same aisle. I know she thought I was hoarding, but that's just what my family needs for about 4 meals of chili or spaghetti with homemade sauce! Thanks for breaking it down for people.
The four kids I have at home are all girls. You'd better believe I have a stockpile of toilet paper! Again, that's not hoarding, it's being wise and prepared for things that may or may not come - like random toilet paper shortages. I didn't need to buy any until things eased up, and I was even able to share with neighbors. It relieved a lot of stress! I consider it being like Joseph of Egypt during the seven years of plenty. You should try the Sam's Club brand. I much prefer it over the Costco stuff. 🙂
Thanks for being you and sharing so openly.

The pantry of my dreams, It's so well organized and neat. As a family of four, we've always keep a large back stock of paper items, so I completely understand why you have the amount that you do. I was wondering (& if you said & I missed it, I apologize) do you keep an inventory (on paper or computer) of your pantry? I do, it helps me keep track of things that my poor memory can't contain. Oh my goodness, nobody should EVER feel the need to defend their food stock/storage for their family, that's called smart...blessed...& aware of it, thank you very much. Actually, my own pantry looks quite similar~ & we're down to 2 of us! Coming from 30+ yrs of feeding anywhere from 4 to 40 humans at any given time, it's just something we've always done. I have pared it down some, usually by going through & gathering donation boxes for whoever may have a need, church pantry, shelters, etc. Regardless of how much I am blessed to be able to buy, there will ALWAYS be someone who can & will make use of it.

Pro stocking tip (for at home) For items that don’t stack well, your applesauce for example, use a sturdy piece of cardboard or lightweight piece of wood to sit on top of your bottom layer which will allow you to take advantage of more vertical space which will make room for something else horizontally.

Suggestion...perhaps put a white erase board in basement pantry and when you see a product(s) low write it down immediately , then when shopping days you can save time by taking a phone picture of white board and wha-la a grocery list to use at store...just a time saving idea.

You're such an inspiration Jamerrill! Thank you for leaving in your mini impromptu reorganize montage, love getting to see the process you go through, and how is similar to mine. Believe it or not some of us really feel like we're doing it all wrong, even if things look right, so seeing the actual process really does help, especially for those who can't get over the hump that they're just doing it wrong. Seeing the example is giving them the confidence to not give up, the process isn't hard, its steps are just intimidating! 🫣😅🤌🏼😘

Jamerril no judgement here, just admiration for the basement pantry. Wishing I had a set up like yours.
But in Texas we don't have basements and I am envious of those who do.🤩 I didn't grow up with a harsh childhood as you, but I do remember dinners for a family of 5 as beans and cornbread. We didn't have much but we weren't hungry either.
You have overcome and exceeded your hard childhood and flourished as an adult and mother. I've seen your shopping videos for the women in shelters and ones who are starting over. You are an amazing woman and never forget that. You are a pillar in your community. Bravo 👏👏👏
    Congratulations ❤️❤️❤️

It’s so nice knowing that if you don’t have grocery money way one week you always have a stash to pull from. Even though I don’t have a duly stocked pantry I stashed away a few things here and there that have come in handy this week where we haven’t been able to go grocery shopping. My husband is a Pastor and money is tight on that income with soon to be 6 kids but God provides in the most amazing of ways.

Just a tip - leaned from a bad experience: don't store bleach bottles above any item. Store it on the floor with a plastic liner under it, because it will eat through the plastic bottle and ruin any food or other items underneath. I had some bleach in the linen closet I had forgotten about, and when I found it, it had eaten through my laminate flooring! 😱

Great basement grocery store perfect for you family and all the cooking you do! My daughter loves those ramen cups!! Once a week I make her one and put it in a thermos for school! She would have it every day if I let her that and Mac and cheese so I limit it to once a week for both! I also like to make my own fruit cups just open a can of fruit and divide it into little glad containers instead of buying fruit cups!

We have a "grocery store" in our garage and a houseguest staying with us has created a spreadsheet for all items and posted lists to mark off when we use something, so I can easily glance and see what needs to be purchased. It has been amazing! I love keeping things on hand to do large batch cooking and in case of emergency on hand. It also makes it easy for my adult children who are in college or their friends to come shop my garage for things they need. I also have clients that often are in need of things to help ends meet that I shop for them as well. I love seeing other home "grocery stores". Good job momma!

I live by myself but my daughters are 40 and 45 and they still have friends and that ask if their mother still has a grocery store in her basement
The answer would be yes not quite as much as when they were growing up but still a lot and they know they can shop from my basement anytime they want.
I had enough toilet paper stocked up before pandemic and I did give some away but I still haven't had to buy any. Never did without as a kid so my dad always said I don't know where you got that stockpiling from certainly not your mother my mom would never buy an extra of anything even if something was on sale two for a dollar one week and she knew she was going to have to have a can the following week and that price would be a dollar for one can she would not buy extra. In the '80s and '90s I could have been on the extreme coupon show when they used to double and triple but coupons aren't as available now

If you store the peanut butter upside down, the oil won't go to the top. Also, for the hard to stack items, cardboard in between would help.

If I could make a suggestion to keep the cans in the cardboard box bottom to give your cans more stability, if someone were to accidently bump the rack hard enough it would make everything fall. I would think it would be cheaper to buy tomato procucts in the #10 size can? I buy my baking soda at Costco because it is cheaper (I use it for my laundry). Your pantry looks good!

    • @JamerrillStewart
      @JamerrillStewart  2 роки тому +2

As far as the tomato products, it just depends. I also have to deal with what’s quickly accessible for me. The great value brand of tomato products are pretty affordable. I do love to break things down to the petty though and went to Costco has the #10 cans of tomato products I definitely get those there as well. Most of the shelves do have cardboard as the liner. Towards the front of some of them it has gotten away from me.

I personally am ashamed about how much food I waste. I try not to, but seems to happen. And I am just one person and get jokes about how much food storage I have. Funny thing, when someone runs out of peanut butter, etc. The call me and I have it. I was just thinking of the main reason someone might give her a hard time. Kind of a preemptive strike against the haters. Can you imagine feeding that many people every day? Lordy, I wouldn't know where to start. Only time I cook for that many is at holidays. Lol. Great job, Jamerrill! I think the silver lining with all the craziness that’s transpired the last few years is that more people are getting back to preparedness. I am in the process of moving to our new home this upcoming Friday and having to take a part our long term pantry was a total nightmare, but I don’t regret it. Happy to have what we have, but boy is it a lot of working having to move this stuff. It took my husband and me a little over 10 hours to get our grocery store out of our basement. Will be looking for different shelving for my cans because I really don’t like the metal shelving, the same as yours at the beginning of the video. I have the shelf liners, but it’s not great having the back and sides open because the cans can fall when stacked. So I will be looking for different shelving. I’ll use my other metal ones for appliance like you did. I am definitely not looking forward to moving our deep freezers though. That is probably what I’m stressing about the most right now. Should be interesting.

I’m in a constant battle in my basement with bugs and mice. I live on a farm. I’ve used every trick in the book but I don’t know if I’m ready to trust my groceries in my basement. I wish I had a nice clean basement but our basement is hundreds of years old the house itself is 200 years old and foundation/basement has had at least three houses on it. So the foundation in the basement are extremely old. I do not have the money to get it fixed up and get it nice down there it’s basically just a very old yucky basement. I’m very interested in Making my basement a grocery store but for now I’ll just admire yours.
