I let my cat into my storage room a few times a week. She loves exploring /hunting and Ive never had a mouse. Also, put bay leaves on shelves n around dry goods to help prevent bugs n rodents. Keep in mind, if power goes out your frozen meats will be lost. Pressure canning is easier than you think and your meats are cooked and shelf stable if you lose power. Follow directions closely and label everything. This also eliminates the problem of meat getting freezer burn.
Great stockpile! Everyone needs one no matter what your family size. It is just smart shopping. I’m glad you stress buy what you use and use what you buy. The only time I may purchase items I don’t use if it is a great sale and I can donate it. Cereal is one example because we don’t eat it much. I got 4 boxes cereal at CVS with a final price of $1.49 after rebates and coupons.
I totally agree, Noreen! Thanks for mentioning that exemption...because I like to do the same. It's also why I can't stop buying the $0.99 peanut butter. It's such a good donation item! 😊 And yes. I completely agree. A stockpile is beneficial to families of all sizes! 😍

Love the canning jars with water, it is a great idea. I did notice that you miscalculated your peanut butter, you actually have 29 bottles not 17 based on the 3 back, which is even better. I am currently working on cutting my food budget in half from $1500 a month to $700 a month. This is food, toiletries, and cleaning supplies for all 6 of us (my husband and myself, my 2 sons (24 and 20), and my great niece and great nephew as I have custody of both (14 and 12), as well as food, kitty litter, and treats for our dog and 3 cats. I am also working on building a 3 month stock pile (eventually, I will bring that up to 6 months, but 3 is good for now). I also help out my 2 older nephews when they need it which isn't often, usually I send a large care oackage home for both on their birthdays as well as Christmas. Once I am able to get our food budget down to a more affordable amount, I am going to pick up some cases of food and hygiene products on sale to donate to the local food banks. We have had to use them in the past and I feel it is time to repay their generosity. I find inspiration in your videos and others. Thank you for showing us your amazing pantry.😀
Thanks for catching that! And yes, the canning jars with water is one of my favorite things! I love that you are working on building so that stockpile for your whole family! What a blessing that will be to know you are providing for your family in that way. Keep up the good work! Slow and steady wins the race...especially when it comes to filling our pantries! 🥰
I love my extra stockpile pantry. It is nice not to run out of ingredients when cooking. I put items in my grocery list that I used during the week. So when I go to the grocery store I replace them in my long term pantry. It has been great during the holiday season. I had to make a breakfast casserole for work and all my ingredients were in my freezer, garden harvest and refrigerator.
Isn't it amazing how much time a stockpile saves us? And yes! I do the same and replace things as I use them. It really is true that having a stockpile saves money AND time!
You mentioned you don't use a lot of broths. Your canned broths if not real salty could be used as a nutritional item to extend your fluid supplies if your well stops working because of power outages. It is also good to have for when people have colds or flu and not able to eat a lot of foods.
Thank you, Kristen! This was a delightful video, packed with GREAT ideas. I grew up with a "store in the basement" like yours. Please know you sharing this brought back dear memories for me. We were a family of 8 and like you, used everything on rotation. There was always more than enough food, even in challenging times. You are doing wonderful work in your home and here on the channel. (Ps: indulge my nerdy sense of humor: Beginning at minute mark 14:37, you say "I have 3 jars of jam currently" or is that "currant-ly . . ha ha ha.. .see what I did there! 😆 This was great - thanks again!
Ha! I love a good pun! 😂 Thanks, Jean! I am so glad the video was helpful and that you enjoyed the real life peek into our stockpile. And I am so glad you know the value of a stockpile for your family as well! ❤️
Yes true great having a stockpile I do also blessing to have now more ever way things keep going up so much less stress having one and I've been able to help so many people feels so good give others
YES! This is another one of my favorite reasons to have a stockpile. I can easily prepare a meal for a family who needs one, or give away bags of kitchen supplies and food. A stockpile can be a blessing in so many ways! ❤️
Of course! Here's the most recent freezer clean out and inventory I did so you can see how I stock my freezers. I love, love, love having extra freezer space! Another great way to save money!
Always enjoy watching you go over your stockpile!! Everyone should be trying to do this! Like you said do a little at a time! Great information you shsred
Thank you so much for sharing your stockpile! You have encouraged me to start a stockpile to be ready for any type of emergency situation! I am slowly getting there! Have a great week!! 😊
You can do it! I am SO glad I can be an encouragement to you! Having a stockpile really is such a great and practical way to be ready for any type of emergency. Good luck stockpiling! I will happily cheer you along the way! 👏
Yes this video was helpful. As you said it is nice to see normal family stockpile. Yes you are for sure an inspiration to many! I would like to see in future videos the recipes that are your family’s favorites, such as enchilada casserole. Thanks for sharing your stockpile & the great explanations & reasons for the way you do it.
Aww, thank you! I am glad it was helpful and encouraging! The recipes seems to be a popular request. I will definitely see what I can do for you all! For now, here is the recipe for enchilada casserole. It's a regular in our recipe rotation. joyfullythriving.com/easy-enchilada-casserole/
Because we live at sea level, there are no such things as cellars in our area. I use the room over the garage for my extra storage. I have purchased multiple shelving units for that room for the purpose of stockpiling and organization
I suggest pressure canning as much meat as possible from your freezer in case of power outages. I can what we call ugly chicken, raw pack is so easy. Also precook hamb n can it. Quik n easy for chili n other meals. Also roast bf when on sale gets pressure canned and pork for BBQ sliders etc. Always have fully cooked meats in case power goes out. I love the water in jars idea. Wish I had a basement.
❤Love this! You can so much in a basement. You and I have similiar pantries in the kitchen and downstairs. 😅 One thing I do with the canned goods is I buy 12 at a time and I buy then in the cardboard flat. They are easier to buy and put in the car and take down to the prepper pantry. I like to have at least 3 stacks of each kind of bean, tomato, veggie, etc... I stack like vegetables and label the front of the cardboard by year oldest on the top to use up first. Makes it so much easier to store. 👍 Over the years we've bought a lot of gallon size glass jars of pickles, when empty wash well to get the smell out and they store dry goods in my kitchen pantry for daily use. 😊 Flour, sugar, rice oats, cereal, pasta, pretzels, crackers, etc....
I love that idea about storing flats and writing the years on them! I used to store in flats but got a lot of grief last time I shared a video about having cardboard in a basement where mice could find it. 😆 But your idea makes so much sense I might have to give that a try!
@@joyfullythriving yeah and I saw 49cent canned 🥫🥫 veggies at Aldi so I'm going tomorrow to stock up on a few flats of corn, green beans, & peas. I daw their cream soup was back down to pre-covid price 49 or 59 cents 🤔 But I'm gonna get a flat of those too for the prepper room. 😃
I love the stockpile! mine is similar, I aim for 12 months just bc I m still in a season of having babies in life ms in case I ever need more time off work than expected or what not we have it! I also try to stock more convenience types foods that my family likes that they can get themselves-cereal, granola bars, instant potatoes, can ravioli-some stuff not the healthy but since my kids are so spread out-we have my brothers kids a lot-in age and my last pregnancy-was great but required some bed rest-it’s easy for them to feed themselves and help out. I also have 2 younger girls-7, 8. Who absolutely love baking. I am a firm believer in buying the cheaper stuff for them. So they use the cheap oil, the margarine, cheap baking mixes (that they doctor up 😂) to practice with. Sometimes they want to bake daily and sometimes their creations are definitely more of an art project than a food by the end. I also want to make sure I have enough of that cheaper stuff and they know they can use it bc I love the creativity and that they are wanting and learning so much about cooking and baking while having a great time with it o hopefully cooking as an adult will be fun too. And the rules is they clean up after themselves-dishes, etc so just life skills all around. Their favorite thing is to look up receipts or find books at the library and make it their own creation and sometimes the stuff comes out great! Love this video! Thanks for all the work it took!
Sooo smart, Nicky! I love that you have built the stockpile that works for your family. Yes to convenience foods, and that is a really good point about encouraging your kids to bake with cheaper ingredients. I am going to remember that tip! 😍 And way to have a 12 month goal. So smart of you! 👏
You’ve been an inspiration for me to stock my pantry, your pantry is so nice, thanks for sharing! Thank you also for your spaghetti sauce recipe. I would love to have your poppy seed chicken recipe, or better yet, have you ever videoed making it? 😊
Awww, thank you! I am glad I can be a stockpile encouragement and inspiration! 😊 As for poppy seed chicken, here is the recipe! I will see if I can attempt a recipe video in the new year! joyfullythriving.com/delicious-poppy-seed-chicken/
Great stock pile of food. I was impressed with how you got the free Mountain Man meals. I walk every day over 10,000 steps. I am going to start a bucket and donate the meals to our local homeless shelter.
Lessons learned from Hurricane Helene. Have many different food storage locations. Flooding in basements and in lower level area's. Months of stock piling but loss of it all due to flooding is heart breaking.
Oh dear. My heart aches for you, dealing with all the aftermath of Helene - and a lost stockpile too! 😔 A very smart lesson indeed. We should all start storing some of our stockpile in different locations - perhaps a swap with a trusted family member or friend? Definitely something to think about.
Love it. I store sugar just like that but I pour out flour because I get the 5 lb bags to last the year. Those 5 gallon with gamma lids hold 30 lbs. I do freeze mine now because I get a years worth when it is on sale at Wegmans because they have the unbleached flour for $1.49. Used to be $0.99 but I will take what I can get. I buy around 25 bags. I used all of my sugar from last year just in time to stock up. This year I got a few extra flour so I have a little left before I start filing bins for next year. I know we have a bunch of spaghetti, canned tomatoes, ketchup and rice but not much else stored. I only store things we use and I have been working on making more things from scratch instead of buying from the store. I just processed 4 pumpkins I got free from neighbors to have purée in the freezer for the year. Great tip on the long term storage hack with dicks.
I have a couple pumpkins I need to process and freeze too! That is smart to freeze your unbleached flour - and still an amazing price! 👏 I am always tempted to dump everything into my big bins but I just don't have a good place to store them in my kitchen so that is what holds me back. Way to stock up on what you use - and make what you need! 😍
Oh I was so happy to catch this video early this week, before I made my Kroger trip! I got to get the 2 lb cheese deal and a couple others! AND, just bought my first set of the shelving unit you have in the basement- that you so kindly provided the link to. I'll probably get one a month for the next few months. I have significantly outgrown my heavy duty plastic shelving in the basement for my canned goods so I have stuff stashed every where. This is going to help me so much! I was looking for heavy duty, but economical shelves, so I appreciate the link.
Yay! I am so excited for you! We added this shelves one at a time too, and have had then for over a decade now and they are still going strong! Good luck getting things together and organized. It feels so good to have it done! 😌
And I had a delay in putting it together- because life happens and I thought it would be SOOOO difficult. I LOVE it! That was the easiest shelf to put together, and it holds 4,000lbs! Wow. Price went down a bit for the Black Friday weekend, so I ordered another one sooner than I thought I would. Thanks again for the link!
@@sitsngigglesful Yay! I am so glad you love the shelf too. I agree - It really is much easier to put together than you think. And yay for Black Friday sales!
As someone who grew up in San Antonio, I totally get it! 😁 And yes, it makes me truly grateful for my basement! It is definitely one of the Northern perks...but I still miss the nice Texas winters at times! 😉 Thanks for stopping by and watching!
I'm sorry to say this l, but I have to. God forbid if the world goes in a hang basket all the food you have combined for a family of 6 wouldn't go far. All said in done if you weren't able to go to a store your lucky to get 5 maybe 6 weeks of food for your entire family. You need protein, rice, pancake mix, powder milk and powder butter, potato flakes, yeast, cereal, and oatmeal. You are off to great start but you absolutely need to expand your pantry on other things. We are entering scary times. Also don't tell people what you have. They will break down your door when people are desperate. Be proud of what you did girl. You are amazing 👏
@joyfullythriving Number one things to go buy next would be bulk rice, flour, and dry beans. Walmart in my area is the cheapest for these 3 things. So important you absolutely need to by ton of salt. Can't live with out salt in our bodies. Make sure it's iodine salt. God Bless you. If you need help, I'm here. Seriously. Us Mommy's need to stick together ❤️ lol. We are very rare in this Day in age to take care of our families like this.
I’m glad you got to go to a ice cream shop to recycle those containers here we go to this burger joint that gets the food storage 5 gallon bucket with lid for two dollars each pick up two more …well done 👍🏼 (Houston,Tx)
Wow! That's a fabulous deal! I hadn't heard of getting them at a burger place before. Well done! 👏 Just goes to show you can find food storage bins in a lot of places if you ask around!
Thanks for that idea! Thankfully, I live in the Midwest where we don't have earthquakes. But a good idea for anyone who lives where this might be a possibility!
Stockpiling makes SUCH a big difference for our family and saves us a lot of money! I have a whole playlist about stockpiling you can watch here - ua-cam.com/play/PLIQjRRknaXUtCRcJ9E5GHZ2js8SNlH8vS.html
The pumpkin is for our favorite pumpkin bread and muffins. Same recipe. It's my kids favorite! joyfullythriving.com/pumpkin-chocolate-chip-bread/ And the refried beans are for a quick and easy enchilada casserole. joyfullythriving.com/easy-enchilada-casserole/
Watch the applesauce and peach cups for mice, I would put them in a durable container do mice can't eat them. Check into the Mormon pantry for long term canned products great prices
Thanks for the tips! I have never had any issues with the individual cups but since I am down there several times a week, I do keep a close eye on them. 🧐
Hi i noticed no one else pointed this out, you counted the peanut butter jars wrong. You have 29 not 17! I’m only mentioning it because it’s good to know how much you have.
Will do! It sounds like this is a popular request for videos. I will have to start sharing some of those in the new year! But for now, this is our absolute favorite pumpkin recipe. It is great as muffins or bread and freezes well too! joyfullythriving.com/pumpkin-chocolate-chip-bread/
My favorite pumpkin recipe is called 3 Sisters Soup. 1 can of pumpkin 1 can of corn (frozen is fine) 1 can of beans of your choice (white beans are my favorite) 1 quart of chicken broth (or vegetable broth if you're making it vegetarian) A few good shakes of onion powder, cumin, garlic powder, and sage. You can add cooked chicken, but it's totally optional. Throw it all in a pot and cook until it's hot.
We are family of 5 but we would never be able to eat all that before it was super old. Our kids are young though. I have a big garden so most of my food is home canned
thanks for the great video - question - why should you not store things on concrete? I have not heard this before - and what type of items should you NOT store on concrete?
From what I have heard, it's because concrete can change temperatures and moisture can get into things. Some people say the chemicals can leak into what is stored on concrete too. It doesn't overly concern me but I know lots of true peppers always advise not storing on concrete. I think it is mostly true for water and liquids.
You should look into using detergent sheets instead of tubs. Earth Breeze is a good option. Each pack has 60 sheets, and they have really good price options. They also take up almost no space, and are eco friendly.
I am really struggling to stock up because we don’t use a lot of foods that store well. I tried canning and ran into the same issue. 30 boxes of pasta could last us 5-10 years. A container of oats will go bad before it’s used up, same with most condiments. I know my family would have to eat what there is in an emergency, but if there is no emergency, it’s all a waste.
How much do you actually throw out because it goes bad or is too far out dated? Just don’t know how to judge how much to stock pile so it won’t go bad.
I throw out very little. The trick is to only stockpile what you use regularly because then you are using it all. For example, I know we will eat enchilada casserole twice a month which means we need 2 cans of refried beans and 2 cans of enchilada sauce. If I have a dozen cans, I will go through them all in 6 months WELL before we get close to an expiration date. So, pay attention to what you are eating and how often you go through one...and then just multiply it out. I hope that helps!
Sadly we got mice for the first time after living here 11 years. They moved in 6 weeks ago and we just can't catch those last 3. These suckers are digging into cans of soup so don't assume your cans are safe. .
I let my cat into the storage room a few times a week. She loves exploring/hunting around in there. 😊 Also put Bay leaves all around to keep bugs n rodents from interest in foods.
When I lived in an apartment, I stored things in my hall closet and under my bed, and wherever I can find space. It may not look as organized but you can definitely store food in any space if you want to!
Sorry! I do not. I just use a basic canning recipe I found online but I can't remember where! 😁 They are all pretty similar - and it was super easy to can!
Quick question - I'm new to back stocking. The sugar in the large white bin, that holds about 8 4lb bags - Should I leave the sugar in the paper bags it comes in or dump the sugar in the bin itself? Pls forgive my ignorance, just trying to learn. Thank you in advance!
With sugar, I just leave mine in the paper bags. For sugar, you are not really worried about bugs and sugar lasts a LONG time anyway, so I have had no problems storing it this way. You could dump it into the bin, but I find it difficult to use that way and manage, so I just store the sugar in the bags and take out the packages I need when I need it. I hope that helps! Good luck to you as you start building your stockpile!
Good questions! I don't have a ton of seasonings stockpiled, persay, other than salt. Now, I do have the large Sam's size spices of many things and large space containers from a local Amish store so I do have quite a few spices on my shelf. Good for you for remembering to diversify your stockpile!
As I buy new things, I put them at the pack of the shelves. Since I am down at the stockpile at least once a week getting things to use, it rotates through pretty easily.
Yes, we would! I make sure to only pick up meals that we would like. Those really are for an emergency but if it gets to year 29, we will definitely eat them!
I would not build my house until I could get on city water.. we were the first house on City water in my neighborhood. When are subdivision lost power like it did on and off for many years over 40 years ago, my neighbor had to come and get water from us to bathe her young children. Plus just recently A friend of mine that lives 3 hours away from me had to stop using their water for nearly a week, because of some type of contamination, and that just happened in August of 2024
There are pros and cons to both. I grew up on city water and definitely appreciated it. But being on a well does keep our water bill VERY low as compared to city water, and if / should anything ever happen to the city water supply, I know we will still have clean water.
It's just plain applesauce. We eat it as our fruit. I have little kids and it is one of main fruits, especially in the winter when fresh fruit is more expensive. We go through 1 to 2 jars a week. And I do use it for baking sometimes, in lieu of oil.
Do you mean of what I have on my shelves? I do not because I am constantly using it BUT I do have a free printable set of stockpiling lists with things to Stockpile and how to Stockpile for $5 a week. You can get those lists here! joyfullythriving.com/food-stockpile-checklists/
I see you are using your canning jars, but don’t have rings on them. I’ve never done any canning and am wondering why you would can and not put the rings on. Can you please explain why?
Good question! You can leave the rings on...and some do. BUT it is generally recommended to take the rings off after sealing and canning for storage. This allows you to see if anything has spilled or if there is leaking. So, I keep my rings in a bin in the basement and some in the kitchen so I can put a ring back on when I open the jar. I hope that helps!
When we grew up in the 1960s and 70s, we had never seen a pantry! We barely had enough food between payday, the cupboard was empty when it was shopping time again! I was shocked when I saw my first pantry! That someone could have that much food in the house!
There are lots of ways to store water! You can store it in individual cases of water, gallon jugs or large jugs. However you decide to store it, a good rule of thumb is 1 gallon of water per person per day, with a minimum 3 day supply. 2 weeks is a great goal. After that, think about water purification systems like a Berkey. (Commission Earned) amzn.to/4d2HNLI
All good tips and points. Thanks for sharing!

Good for you! I hope everyone realizes it is such a simple thing to do but it really can be a blessing. Way to get to 12 months! 👏 👏 👏
Ive been building my pantry and it has its own room 😊
Good for you! Your pantry will serve you well, I am sure! 👏
Because we live at sea level, there are no such things as cellars in our area. I use the room over the garage for my extra storage. I have purchased multiple shelving units for that room for the purpose of stockpiling and organization
I love your videos! Please share your recipes…it would be great if we could watch you making some meals.
This seems to be a popular request! I will definitely give that a try for you all! 😊
Great video! If you find a good deal on chicken, especially boneless, chicken is easy to pressure can and so much less expensive than store bought.
I have heard that! It is definitely on my list of things to try!
I have also purchased a hanging Pantry Shelf that goes over the pantry door. This helps me to keep additional items organized
That's a great idea!
❤ Southeastern Indiana on the Ohio River ❤ Hi Hoosier 🙏🏻
Hello to you, fellow Hoosier! My sister lives down there too!
Cool! I bought a House that already had those same Shelves...just have to finish stockpiling!
Woohoo! We've had these shelves for over a decade so I can confidently say they will hold a LOT as you stockpile! Have fun filling your shelves! 🙌
❤Love this! You can so much in a basement.
You and I have similiar pantries in the kitchen and downstairs. 😅
One thing I do with the canned goods is I buy 12 at a time and I buy then in the cardboard flat.
Over the years we've bought a lot of gallon size glass jars of pickles, when empty wash well to get the smell out and they store dry goods in my kitchen pantry for daily use. 😊
Flour, sugar, rice oats, cereal, pasta, pretzels, crackers, etc....
I love that idea about storing flats and writing the years on them! I used to store in flats but got a lot of grief last time I shared a video about having cardboard in a basement where mice could find it. 😆 But your idea makes so much sense I might have to give that a try!
@joyfullythriving 😮 oh i had never heard of that. I don't have trouble with mice so it works great for me. 🤩
@@Sandrashideaway Way to keep stocking up!
I store my cake mixes exactly the same way you do . That way I can actually see what type of cake mix I have and how many of them
Yes! It's so handy to see at a glance!
Great pantry!!! I'm a sale shopper too and love watching you.
Thanks so much! 😊
We use tons of broth… I’m almost out. But we also eat mostly just meat and veggies due to food sensitivity issues
Broth is definitely a necessity for you then!
You’ve been an inspiration for me to stock my pantry, your pantry is so nice, thanks for sharing! Thank you also for your spaghetti sauce recipe. I would love to have your poppy seed chicken recipe, or better yet, have you ever videoed making it? 😊

Great stock pile of food. I was impressed with how you got the free Mountain Man meals. I walk every day over 10,000 steps. I am going to start a bucket and donate the meals to our local homeless shelter.
That's a wonderful idea! It really is such an easy way to get a couple free freezer meals every year, and donating them is a great idea too! 💡 🥰
Excellent video. So glad I found you. Thank you for all of this important information.
You are so welcome!
Amazing stockpile! Great job, Mama!
Awww, thank you so much! 🥰 It is always a work in progress, but I am truly thankful to have food stored for my family.

Enjoyed seeing your stockpile it's nice great tips also God Bless You 😊

I'm putting together the first one today!
Hi! I just found your channel and ❤ your stock pile. So jealous that you have a basement 😂. I could only have an indoor pond here in SE Texas
As someone who grew up in San Antonio, I totally get it! 😁 And yes, it makes me truly grateful for my basement! It is definitely one of the Northern perks...but I still miss the nice Texas winters at times! 😉 Thanks for stopping by and watching!

That’s impressive. We don’t have a basement, root cellar or walk in pantry. I have to get creative but we are well stocked for a few months.
Good for you! Being creative with space adds a level of challenge, but you rose to the challenge! And what a blessing to be well stocked now! 🥰
This is such a good idea!

Oh man.. not jealous at all... wish this was my life lol
You can do it! Slow and steady wins the race, remember! 😁
Thanks! And all good points. Great additions, as there is always more to stock up on!

One request: please share some of your delicious sounding recipes. . . especially anything to use canned pumpkin. 👩🍳
1 can of pumpkin
1 can of corn (frozen is fine)
1 can of beans of your choice (white beans are my favorite)
1 quart of chicken broth (or vegetable broth if you're making it vegetarian)
A few good shakes of onion powder, cumin, garlic powder, and sage.
You can add cooked chicken, but it's totally optional.
Throw it all in a pot and cook until it's hot.
Excellent
Thanks so much! 🥰
Thank you!

We are family of 5 but we would never be able to eat all that before it was super old. Our kids are young though. I have a big garden so most of my food is home canned
Good for you in canning lots! That is a big task and a huge accomplishment!
i like your channel so much... ❤❤❤
Thank you so much. 😀
thanks for the great video - question - why should you not store things on concrete? I have not heard this before - and what type of items should you NOT store on concrete?
From what I have heard, it's because concrete can change temperatures and moisture can get into things. Some people say the chemicals can leak into what is stored on concrete too. It doesn't overly concern me but I know lots of true peppers always advise not storing on concrete. I think it is mostly true for water and liquids.
@@joyfullythriving sing a pallet is a great way around that issue.
I had gallon jugs of water stored directly on the basement floor. They deteriorated and leaked. So now they all set of a pallet.
You should look into using detergent sheets instead of tubs. Earth Breeze is a good option. Each pack has 60 sheets, and they have really good price options. They also take up almost no space, and are eco friendly.

Thanks for the great 👍🏼 I just found you and subbed 🤗
Awesome! Thank you! I am so glad I can be a help to you!
That is a challenge for sure. Just keeping working at it and hopefully you will find something your family eats that you can store!
also if you have animals, stock items, food and supplies for them
We don't have animals but good point for those who do!
having a stock pile is great . what happens if basement gets flooded , a fire etc . not all my supplies are in one place
Something good to consider...
That Kroger apple juice is addictive 😅 my faintly goes through 2 a week
It really is a good apple juice! 🍎 We love it too!
Sadly we got mice for the first time after living here 11 years. They moved in 6 weeks ago and we just can't catch those last 3. These suckers are digging into cans of soup so don't assume your cans are safe. .
Oh dear! Hopefully you catch them soon!
What if you put your canned goods into plastic containers with Gamma Lids? Just a thought
I let my cat into the storage room a few times a week. She loves exploring/hunting around in there. 😊 Also put Bay leaves all around to keep bugs n rodents from interest in foods.
The best protection from rodents is glass or metal containers.
Cats!!!! Get some. We use to have them and now we keep cats and it’s rare we get one.
I live in a apt no place for so much food but nice video
When I lived in an apartment, I stored things in my hall closet and under my bed, and wherever I can find space. It may not look as organized but you can definitely store food in any space if you want to!
best by date, not expiry date

Do you have a video on the cowboy candy
Sorry!
@joyfullythriving Thank you for responding! Definitely helpful! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
@@kittygriggs4146 Of course! Happy to help! I'm just thrilled that you are working at building up your pantry! 🥰
I didn’t see any seasonings stockpiled. Do you store those as well? I just started to store seasonings as well
As food.
Good questions! I don't have a ton of seasonings stockpiled, persay, other than salt. Now, I do have the large Sam's size spices of many things and large space containers from a local Amish store so I do have quite a few spices on my shelf. Good for you for remembering to diversify your stockpile!
How do you rotate
As I buy new things, I put them at the pack of the shelves. Since I am down at the stockpile at least once a week getting things to use, it rotates through pretty easily.
Would you ever eat the freeze dry meals even if they last a ling time
Yes, we would! I make sure to only pick up meals that we would like. Those really are for an emergency but if it gets to year 29, we will definitely eat them!
recycle your food by selling to family and friends then buy fresher foods so nothing expires. I hope this helps.❤
That's a good idea!
How do you use so much apple sauce and what do you use it for? Is it the same as uk apple sauce thats used for going with meats?
It's just plain applesauce. We eat it as our fruit. I have little kids and it is one of main fruits, especially in the winter when fresh fruit is more expensive. We go through 1 to 2 jars a week. And I do use it for baking sometimes, in lieu of oil.
@@joyfullythriving Great Idea.

Do you have a list?

I see you are using your canning jars, but don’t have rings on them. I’ve never done any canning and am wondering why you would can and not put the rings on. Can you please explain why?
Good question! You can leave the rings on...and some do. BUT it is generally recommended to take the rings off after sealing and canning for storage. This allows you to see if anything has spilled or if there is leaking. So, I keep my rings in a bin in the basement and some in the kitchen so I can put a ring back on when I open the jar. I hope that helps!
TY
You are most welcome!
Im honestly horrified by the amount of people I talk to who do not have a pantry. Even a small one.
Something is always better than nothing! 😊
When we grew up in the 1960s and 70s, we had never seen a pantry! We barely had enough food between payday, the cupboard was empty when it was shopping time again! I was shocked when I saw my first pantry! That someone could have that much food in the house!
Hi, im in UK. lm pretty much a beginner. l have 10kg of dried pasta and about a 100 tins. Thats it yet. How do i store water please x
Do you have any problems with those little weavels?
