    Your fish year in the Corps stands as one of the very best years of your entire life.
    I can't imagine why anyone would go to A&M, and not be in the Corps. I just can't figure that out.

    It's great to see that something things never change. It's the worst year of your life, until it's over -- and then it's the best year you'll ever cherish, as long as you live.

    The Corps experience in unparalleled anywhere. It is extremely tough (mainly, it's a Time Management problem)..... but after it's over, it's the best thing you will ever cherish for the rest of your life.
    Gig 'em, Ags. I am there with you... as are countless thousands of other Aggie fish from the past.

    I was a fish in 1980. We quadded people. And dropping handles involved an ax handle. Bloody Cross, March to the Brazos, etc., were all tough as a fish. It does cost you some GPA for sure.

    Why would you put airout in a video like this and ruin it for future classes?

    Poor fishies, no idea what they signed up for. Just remember. The body may be weak, but the mind is strong. They will be going through absolute hell in the coming year, but if their will does not break, they cannot fail. Thousands have gone before them and succeeded, they will be no different as long as they believe in themselves and their fish buddies.

    yeah man I understand it's supposed to be hard. I thought my fish year was hard, I'm sure it wasn't as physically hard as when they quadded people etc. I just want it to be hard and stressful but also focus more on Integrity, Discipline, Selfless Service and Honor (and of course Academics). Some of the things we did seemed to vaguely fit into these categories.
    How about this, where would you like to see the Corps of Cadets go? Besides to how it was

    I couldn't see the footage of any cadet who weighed over 250 lbs. If you're gonna show who's in the corps then you might as well show all of them and explain how the upperclassmen hate the new commandant

    Lol wow, I was an Army Cadet at the U.S. Army Cadets Corps and thats crazy. Most Cadets Corps on their Uniforms it would say U.S.Army like most ROTC's would. but I guess thats what makes us different from them. Its a the same basically/

      LiteAtNite What is the main difference of this vs ROTC?

    • @visig0th152
      @visig0th152 7 років тому +16

      The Corps is done alongside ROTC. A cadet in a Cadet Corps lives in a military environment 24/7 and wears a uniform to class every day. Also a corps all live together in designated cadet dorms, which is where they train and do room inspections, uniform inspections, and much of their training. At A&M I would get up at 0530 and PT with my outfit for a couple hours every morning before we all went to flag formation on the Quad. Monday and Friday afternoons had a couple hours of training time, which were either PT or 'indoor training' for the fish (freshmen) on proper wear of the uniform, keeping rooms squared away, and becoming proficient on military knowledge. Afternoon training always involved a lot of yelling and screaming by the trainers, the sophomores (called pissheads.) ROTC is really only a couple of our classes, one class for whichever branch ROTC we're in and one leadership lab for that branch. Also the military structure is dependent on a class privilege system. The higher your class the more privileges you have but also the more responsibilities. For example, fish have absolutely no responsibilities besides doing what they're told by the upperclassmen, but they also have very few freedoms. They are not allowed to have a first name (every freshman is called fish 'last name', fish Jones for example), they can only walk/run on one side of the hallway, and they can't know or use certain words like piss (sophomore privilege), button (junior privilege, have to call them fasteners), and zipper (senior privilege, have to call them corrugated fasteners.)
      At ROTC without an active Cadet Corps there's no real military environment, PT and training are way more relaxed, and they only wear a uniform to class one day a week.
      Basically the biggest difference is experience. In both you can get a solid 4 year degree and have the option of commissioning as an officer after graduation (though it is not required at either). In normal ROTC, however, you are still a completely normal college student, you just wear ACUs to some of your classes and go out exercising in silly looking shorts a few times a week. At a military school (off the top of my head the major military schools in the US that fit this mold are any of the federal academies, Texas A&M, the Citadel, VMI, Virginia Tech, North Georgia, and Norwich) you have way less freedom as a college student, but the benefits are...actually it's hard to describe the best parts of a program like that.
      My experience in the Corps at A&M was absolutely indescribable. I was put through absolute hell as a fish, but at the same time I would give absolutely anything to go back and do it again. For every smoking my fish buddies and I received we had some practical joke or other story that I'll carry fondly for the rest of my life. The training, just getting worn down by constant yelling and criticism day after day after day, it completely broke me down to my basest level and rebuilt me into the best possible version I could be. It gave me something to strive towards, to be better at, gave me something to love about myself, the fact that I got through it and came out the other side not only alive but a million times stronger than I was before. It's an indescribable feeling of belonging and pride that I'll carry with me til the day I die. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, whether it's civilian or military, amongst a huge group of people or all by myself, I have the knowledge and confidence to face any challenge head on and not just complete it but blow it out of the water. That is why Cadet Corps are invaluable, and that's something you just won't get from normal ROTC.

    Personally I would never join the corps of cadets at Texas A&M university because they go the extra mile compared to other ROTC's for the same result. I personally don't like the traditions of Texas A&M because they seem very dumb to me even though I already know the backstory to those traditions. Even if I had the option of transferring from my NROTC unit to the corps of cadets' unit I would never do it.

    • @eugenedebs3281
      @eugenedebs3281 7 років тому +2

      Matthew Kanney it seems you don’t understand that all NROTC get the same amount of training regardless of what college you go to, I would even debate that a smaller unit makes you more competitive among your peers resulting in a much more prepared officer since you get that one on one training with all the Naval staff and guidance from them, the Corp of cadets on the other hand adds too many extra things that are unnecessary for a future naval officer when you can be learning more about what’s important in the actual Navy. How can I be lazy when I give my 100% every day?, plus I want to be a nuke so my route isn’t exactly the most easiest from the other warfare communities since it’s the most academically oriented one.

      From the outside looking in..Aggieland is hard to explain or understand..but knowing your part of an elite group of trained leaders, and part of the largest fraternity in the world is just a small bit. My years in Aggieland from a young boy enjoying game day with my proud father '55 to one of my best days ever, ring day (WHOOP!). THERE IS NO BETTER UNIVERSITY IN THE WORLD OR IN TEXAS.."Aggies dont lie, cheat or steal..nor tolerate those who do." We are true to each other, and love our COUNTRY. Those who learn and are Honored members of the Core of Cadets go on to serve in all Branches of the Millitary..yet always forever Aggies. Before you crap on Texas A&M, give yourself the opportunity to have our school shown off to you be a member of the student body past or present...My bet is you will have a better opinion of this fine school and those PROUD Aggies!

      Eugene Debs rodger that..its Amazing to see these Cadets have time to train and develop into leaders of tomorrow all while taking a full load of classes semester after semester.
      I went there, and received several Undergraduate Degrees..and it nearly whooped my ass, I have genuine respect for all those young men and women who also elsected to simultaneously be in the Core of Cadets..and some even join the Fightin Texas Aggie Band..and they train, do class work and drill every morning at 4am...all while having the highest GPA of all the Core of Cadets.
      Its really quite an Honor to be among so many Brave men and women who think so much of their Country as to Join the Millitary while going to school. Really a unique campus of awesome Traditions and people. Gig Em '99
