    Tied a few of these this winter. Used one of them for the first time today on the local wild trout tailwater right below the dam. Landed my personal best 21" rainbow, a 19, 17, 16, 16 and a couple 12-13"ers. None of my standard small tailwater flies worked. These fish have seen everything. The barely legal cleaned up. VERY impressed. Thanks Kelly!

    Hey Kelly, just wanted to drop a comment saying how fantastic this library of work is that you (and your team) have created.
    I just got into fly tying this winter and man your videos have really sucked me down the rabbit hole. Although I don’t have all the tools and materials I was still able to apply a bunch of techniques from this Barely Legal to some practice flies I’m working on. Trying to develop good habits from the get go and I’m stoked to have all your content to work through. Excited to tie some of the more grandeur flies featured on the channel some day. You seem like a stand up guy and I really dig what you guys are doing, I definitely will be following along with new vids while working my way through older ones

    I don't like to comment on videos, but I appreciate these so much I thought I'd give some positive feedback. I wish I would have found your videos when I first started tying. These are the best tying videos I have ever seen. I really appreciate taking the time to show the small details on how to do it right. Some may not like the slower videos, but I really appreciate the extra attention to detail. Thank's for taking the time to make these.

    Thank you for the videos! You don’t need to worry about the fecesbags on the “interwebs”; their a dime a dozen and looking for attention. Just ignore them and focus on these great tutorials. There is plenty in this world to get angry over and cuss out people for doing, but fly-tying and teaching aren’t one of them. Most people make you pay for these kinds of lessons, and for those of us who are not financially well off, fly fishing is already insanity expense enough, especially vs spinner/bait casting. People should be grateful you are offering these classes at no cost. They can always mute you and just watch if that’s what they need to do; but I appreciate the lessons as provide. Thank you again.

    Is there something in the water in Michigan that makes great tyers? You and Gunnar Brammer are both good (OK great but don't let it go to your head) tyers and both from the Travers City area if I recall right. Anyway, nice fly and I guess I'll have to tie up a few in gray/silver and white as that's the color of the predominate bait fish in the river by my house. As far as talking too much my computer has a volume control that goes all the way to mute. Personally I like the chatter it keeps it interesting. • @kellygalloup6073
      @kellygalloup6073 4 роки тому

      Pavel, you could try that or run a peice down the belly, but they do tend to flip back and forth even with the longer hooks, My original version of this fly I used a short shank front and a 2460 in the rear and it helped a little but honestly I think the flipping side to side makes it fish better, wasnt the by design that is for sure but they all seem to do it and it continues to be our top producer year after year. I'm curious what weight rod and type of line you typically fish this fly on?

    • @TheSlideinn

      Steve- We usually fish this on a 6-7 weight using a 200-250 grain sinking line with the Airflo Streamer Max Long being our usual line of choice. That said, this pattern is small enough that you could use a stiff 5 weight without an issue. You can also substitute a tungsten cone for the brass one and fish it on a floating line. - Johnnie

      Cut the back hook at the bend after it's all tied up. Most predator species will attack the head. Small brown trout might nip at the tail, but in my experience, you don't usually hook them even with a back hook.

    Why in the world did you name this, and all of the other descent flies, ridiculously creepy names? Barely legal, sex dungeon? Come on man. Also, 12 plus pieces if marabou in one fly? Other than that, I'm good. Great info. Very informative. Obviously a pro in terms of fishing and tying. Not many people better when it comes to trout.

    Your dogs define thier friends by one quality. Does this person play fetch or not.
