While a longer length cable is a welcome addition, I’d like to see them switch from an integral cable to a type c port on the puck. Some third parties do this e.g ESR.

I got one two years ago. My new Apple IPhone 14 Pro Max was overheating. Very hot to the touch. I stopped using it as the return period was over. Threw it out just yesterday. I switched to the regular included charger and the overheating stopped.
My 14 Pro that I got on release day is down to 80% battery health. I have almost exclusively used wireless charging through Qi and (recently) Qi2 chargers. I've also had "Optimized Battery Charging" on for the entire life of the phone, but for long periods of time it seems to have no done anything. I wish Apple had allowed the 14 and earlier generations of iPhones to take advantage of the stricter charging limits that are available on the 15 and later models. It seems like an arbitrary and very anti-consumer/anti-"green" thing for Apple to do given that it directly impacts battery lifespan.
Mine is at the exact same Battery health. But I use it for long video recording and constantly overheat the phone so much that the screen dims to almost impossible to see. I also turned off battery optimization on day one. These two phones aren’t proof that battery optimization does little to nothing, but it’s a case where it didn’t matter lol (I have the 14 Pro, not the Max. I use MagSafe for 75% of my charging)
Interesting. My iPhone 14 Pro Max has been on MagSafe chargers almost entirely for the two years I’ve had it. The only time it’s on a cable, is when traveling and using a power bank. Your video prompted me to check the battery health and it’s at 97%. Of course this is all anecdotal, just thought I’d add my 2 cents since it’s magsafe charged almost exclusively.
agreed about the apple chargers. there is no way you 'need' an apple 30w charger. all these claims always state 'up to 25w', as i highly doubt you are gonna get get 25w sustained for the entire charge. just like with '80w' wired chargers, youll see 80w for the first couple mins, then the phone will draw more like 30w for the rest of teh charge to balance heat and other variables
Are there any stands with MagSafe 2 ? My experience with the puck is blah. It’s not a clean solution to have a puck. Just cleaner for me to use my belkn MagSafe stand.
I wonder if faster charging will degrade my IPhone 16 Pro Max battery life! I have been using the older 5 watt charger and it does just fine in getting my phone charged overnight!
Series 7 and later can use fast charging if you have the right puck. I remember for the longest time Belkin 3 in 1 was the only one capable using Apple Watch fast charging.
Another way to be able to tell the new MagSafe from the old one is via model number. The new ones have model numbers A2580 (1m version) and A3250 (2m version)
iPhone 17 next year and iPhone 18 after that. That way this video won't be outdated because they probably won't be updating the Mag Safe again for awhile.
I bought a 10 ft MagSafe cable on Amazon. It also has an adhesive ring for the back of a phone case or an older iPhone like my 11 Pro Max for example, so now I can charge my iPhone while using wired headphones at the same time again!
You’ve done a great job communicating this. Enough explanation for those new to the topic, but still keeping experienced users engaged, and thank you for the test results! I’d love to see something from Anker that supports the faster charging standard.
NEVER use MagSafe. It’s burnt 2 of my iPhone batteries on the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the 13 Pro Max. Dropped the health to 81% on the iPhone 12 Pro Max in less than a year and the 13 Pro Max to 79% after less than a year. Always use the cable directly into the iPhone to keep the best battery health.
If you really care about the heat with magsafe (like I do) i recommend putting a heatsink under the magsafe, sounds goofy but works incredibly well, but keep in mind apple says: "Place your MagSafe Charger face up - as shown - on a flat surface, clear of any metal objects or other foreign material."
@@susannolen998 sure: get a heatsink (that aluminum thing with a fan) from a PC lets say, remove the screws that attach the fan to the heatsink. Put the heatsink in your table and put the MagSafe on top of it. Or just put the MagSafe on your phone and let it rest in top of the heatsink, obviously with the MagSafe touching it. Explanation: aluminum and copper, which is what the heatsinks are made of are extremely conductive with the heat, so when you put anything hot that can conduct the heat to it, it cools down a lot, if you were to build a PC (that’s what they are made of in this particular case) you would need thermal paste because it reaches 80 C but in this case, the MagSafe only reaches 40 C so don’t need to use any conductive paste. The thing with heatsinks is you need to get something bigger than the MagSafe puck, the bigger the best dissipation you gonna get (don’t go for anything too big because you don’t need it). Hope this helps, any other question just ask 😁
I like the faster charging speeds on my 16 PM, but one downside to the new puck is the dimensions while extremely tiny are smaller on the new one. So my old stand which fits the original MagSafe puck very snuggly and can withstand the phone being removed without it budging, the new puck without a phone even attached simply falls out of the holder as its loose. Why the hell Apple needed to change the dimensions I'll never know but this has a good chance of breaking the majority of MagSafe holders out there unless it's been designed specifically for the new one.
I’m looking forward to wireless charging as my current iPhone 7 doesn’t have it. I work as a painter and decorator so get dust and paint on my phones and I break a charging port on my phones every one to two years on average and it’s annoying.
A few months ago I drilled a hole a shelf on the wall behind my couch to put in a chi charger. After a week it gave up on me. But the MagSafe charger I have next to my bed never failed me. I think im getting this one and getting a mount or something so I can replace that charger I have in the shelf. This seems perfect 👌
