Cracking video ... I've just got meself an NXR2 recently, my first Shoei lid. Really impressed with it, straight out of the box it feels like it was custom made to fit my head - by far the most comfortable helmet I've owned. Over the last 25 years I've had lids from Frank Thomas, Caberg, Airoh, Shark (2) and AGV (3). The NXR2 is a nicer lid than the AGV K6 and Shark Spartan RS (I've spent time with both of those so far this year) .... it's not perfect ... the visor ratchet feels unrefined compared to the Spartan RS and an internal sun visor would be very handy (but would also make the outer shell bigger which is a negative) .... but those are forgiven due to the awesome overall quality, finish, comfort and fit. Doubt I'll ever bother with another brand now ... my Shoei just feels like home when I put it on 🤷♂
This is a great video - I can't remember when I last heard this much information about crash helmets... probably when I was reading Ride magazine back in the day 😊 Thanks John!

I've been using a chinmounts mount on my 1400 here in the states and it works really well if you have a gopro. Though there's not much room, there is enough for the helmet-specific plastic cube to fit onto the helmet for the mount. Neither the visor tab nor the chin vent really get in the way from using the visor on the road, from what I've experienced at least.

I’m kind of lost with all these different Shoei helmets. I just bought a Shoei GT Air2, and there doesn’t seem much difference when you compare them in the looks department. The great thing I love about the GT Air 2 is the ratchet buckle as opposed to the D rings. The drop down sun visor is great as well, and on my Z900RS you naturally have your head raised anyway.
The safest shape for a helmet will dictate its looks to some extent, but the GT Air 2 is more of a sport-touring lid, especially with the drop-down shield and ratchet buckle. Cheers, John
Looks like the new visor mechanism also allows for a more eccentric motion for the visor as it opens and closes. Just noticed it off your video. And looking at them side by side, it seems the mechanism is now lower down the helmet. Perhaps this is for the same reason Arai made the Variable Axis System, to allow for better protection to the side of the head.
Mostly an exercise in selling more visors … you could share X-Spirit visors with your NXR, and vice-versa; not with the NXR 2, though … you need a different set of visors for each. Any other differences are negligible, and most riders I know - myself included - think the original looks better.

Sorry to hear that! It's one of those variables that just can't be guaranteed for everyone I guess. I wore it on the VFR last night for 180 miles with no problem.
what helmet do you have now , sir?
great review, but I hope that these Shoei doesn't see the store again, you cracked the sh... out of that helmet :) If these two survived your 7 min review, then they are good for 7 years in my hands :))
Can I fit my Cardo Packtalk Slim on that helmet???
I would say almost certainly
Any changes on weight?
I couldn't compare as they were different shell sizes
Can you measure the shell size of the NXR vs NXR2? Would also be interesting to see if they had to include extra eps foam to pass 22.06 .
Good question, though I don't have them anymore, and they were different shells sizes so I couldn't have made any useful deductions from that anyway. Will be interesting to see in stores that still have stock of the NXR when this hits shelves. Cheers, John
Original NXR/RF-1200 shape/design looks better, though
quantic or nxr2?
Quantic is a more relaxed fit, but what matters is what fits you best
@@bennettsbikesocial what is your personel opinion?
Quantic, but fit and comfort is subjective
@@bennettsbikesocial thank you John!
Is this RF1400?
I can't say for certain that there are no differences, but the US version of the NXR2 is the RF1400. Cheers, John
@@bennettsbikesocial Ok thanks, need a new helmet, shoei glamster have to much air noice
The vent at the rear is huge, and you can’t close it 👎, probably go for Arai Quantic now.
The spoiler is large, but that doesn't mean it'll be intrusive - depends on the porting
Thanks for reply but think you’ve missed the point. I’m implying the vent hole is very large and you can’t close it.
This is not a race helmet, but a sport touring , as shoei have stated for that market. I’m not denying it has been improved in many areas but it’s heavier and seams they have cut corners to price beat competition. I’m a shoei fan normally but don’t think I’ll be buying this.
@@jamesgray541 I have a Shoei Neotec 2 which is very similar to the GT Air 2 but modular. It also has a permanently open vent at the rear. Although I don't ride in the depths of winter I have never felt it drawing a lot of air when the top vent is closed. But I do appreciate your point.
No neutral on your bike ;-)
So,every new helmet is gonna look like an arai
What were the scientific names of the beings animalculus?
Isn't it a generic term for microscopic organisms, being the Latin for small animals? Not really my specialist subject.
