Man, I still think about that OPI Iceland collection to this day, and I'm not someone who remember collections. I agree with you that OPI should go back to that because it was a lot of fun to see how different countries inspired different color collections. Puerto Rico is a great idea!
I was really hoping Zoya would continue their color palette collections. The Sunset palette, the Rose palette, etc. I really liked those and liked the idea of a 5 piece ready to wear skittles manicure.
Great review. Since you mentioned both lines at Orly: My favorite was Essie Gel Couture! "Fashion freedom" and "Regal Rebel" were great. There is a fantastic brush for them, the colors are beautiful and often have a subtle shimmer that gives these colors their magic. My favorite for a few years now.
I feel like Morgan Taylor bottle style /glass material and grey lid makes all their polishes look .. Dusty, Serious, industrial. They have pretty interesting shades sometimes actually, but the bottles reduce the oomph factor... Maybe they just need to change the font and lid to White or silver or something.
I think if Salon Perfect was included in here, it would be mine number one for 2023! They really did different and beautiful things! Totally impressed with them and cant wait what they will have for this year! Great vid. Janixa!
I love this and totally agree, especially about ORLY! The colors in the Breathable line were better than the regular collection, which makes me a little sad because I get the Color Pass and don't care for the Breathable formula. Fingers crossed they do better next year!
I think I'd put Orly first just because they did some fun and unusual things like the NASA collab, the halloween advent calendar, the Kelli Marissa spacey reboot collection, etc. I liked all of those more than their usual seasonal collections. I also agree that the Breathable line gets better color stories than the lacquer line. I think Orly and China Glaze take more risks and do more 'weird' things. Not just traditional or 'classy lady' polishes. Oh- and the Adam Lambert collection was cool, even though those were not really NEW new colors, it's just fresh and non-traditional to have a collab with a man. For a mainstream brand I like that they are pushing the boundaries a little bit.
My husband knows how much i love nail polish that he got me for Christmas it started with pink from Jeff Pink. I was so exoxted to get the book because Orly is one of my favorite nail polish brands, i can't wait to start reading the book. My ranking is: orly opi mineral fusion zoya essie .
I didn’t purchase enough mainstream brands this year to even rank them. I do know OPI would be 6th place. I went down the indie rabbit hole on PPU this year but it’s time to stop. I’ve put myself on a low-buy for 6 months. Spring collections aren’t that tempting for me so it’s a good time to start. I’ll still be watching your reviews and a few others. I love your style of video and your swatching is superb! Thanks for everything you do Janixa!
I totally agree with you about OPI and Essie, I really don't care for them, even though I keep trying. Also, Zoya, they used to be my one and only brand and I started with them many, many years ago when they were one of the first "free" brand. Bummer :(
Such a fun year end video! 🎉 I truly enjoy and value your opinions on the polishes you’ve tried! As a Canadian, I only wish we had the same access to these mainstream brands as you have in the US… *sigh*! I’ve been incredibly impressed by the quality of Essie’s crème polishes this year! So many are approaching one-coat coverage! China Glaze really is standard-setting with their creativity! 🎨 Wishing you all the best in 2024! 🎉💛
I agreed because OPI did the California collection for 2021. That was some fun collection. Also, Zoya, they need to bring back the palette collection. It was a pretty good collection. Morgan Taylor need to come up with some different type of finishes like matte or magnetic other than creams. I can't wait to see what in store for Essie, Orly, and China Glaze in 2024. Thanks Janixa and Happy New Year.
I've always thought Morgan Taylor had boring colors. I only own two, one being an older neon and the periwinkle from the winter collection. I have very few Essie for the same reason you mentioned. I prefer specialty finishes. Essie is definitely capable of making more than creams well. Chinaglaze would be my top. I'm always the most excited to see what they come out with.
I don't mind morgan Taylor's Cream polishes. I do alot of nail stamping and I need a good cream that I can easily apply and dries quickly on its own! 🙂
I used to love love love OPI when they did the Country/City collections!! I totally agree that they need to bring those themes back! I have never tried Morgan T polishes, but I agree with the rest of your rankings. Honestly, since the covid mess of 2020, I do not think any of the np brands have put out noteworthy collections. I wonder how much the whole work from home vs go into the office mentality has had to do with that. I think many businesses, not just nail polish ones, have gotten lazy. Personally, I don't understand the hype around indie brands -- I find the whole "you can only buy from their website at certain times, and LE polishes" too cumbersome to deal with, so I only purchase from salon mainstream brands: opi, cnd, essie, as well as ChG, Orly, and some higher end brands (Chanel, Dior, etc) But given how boring and repetitive many of the np colors have been, I have really cut back on how many entire collections I buy anymore. I have a HUGE 500+ np collection, and my faves are from releases from 2007 to 2020 with the Mexico City release. I even found the 2020 Fall Milan collection a bit snore-festy except for 2 polishes. I hope 2024 brings more excitement and creativity back to mainstream brands. I l over your videos! Great job!! ❤
I feel Orly is #1 for color stories & collections. Regardless if the finish or colors aren’t my style, the colors go well with the color story & are cohesive. Essie does too many & I don’t feel color stories flow. CG has been bad but agree they take the most chances. They had a better year but I think I picked up 1 polish they released this year
I like Morgan Taylor because of their great brush and formula. Maybe 2024 will be their year! OPI…Why don’t they improve their brush??? I wish they would go back to the travel collections as well. I did enjoy your rankings and comments. Happy 2024.
This was fun! I’m really enjoying your ranking videos! I hardly bought any new mainstream polishes this year but just from watching reviews on UA-cam, OPI is last for me. I feel like they’re trying to appeal to a younger demographic and it’s so cringe, as the youths say. 😂 I wanted to love their Barbie collection but it was meh. I agree with CG being number one because they get creative and offer so many different finishes. I think Orly would be number 2 for me and Zoya number three. I don’t pay enough attention to Essie and MT to rank them. 😅
Oh, I thought Zoya would be number 6! But, then again, I don’t hear much about Morgan Taylor so…you are right, they should be the last😬 I enjoyed this video ❤ I hope you have a very Happy New Year 🎆🎊
I couldn’t agree with you more on OPI I actually thought they would be 6. The formula and color story was so disappointing and I expect a lot more from them. Even more than MT. I’m also happy you tanked China glaze at 1 to me they always do different exciting themes and try different finishes. ❤I hope OPI also returns to their traveling series and we PR collection.
I don’t buy OPI but I love Essie, Zoya, China Glaze and Orly. I love cool colors so I really enjoyed Zoya releases but I wish they’d include the other half of the rainbow more often. China Glaze formulas are not consistently good but they do fun things with their polishes. Essie is on a role, but I wish their releases were all equally accessible. It’s so confusing and frustrating having store and country specific collections. Please simplify things, Essie. As for Orly, I agree the Breathable lines were way better than the Color Pass ones. I cancelled my subscription to that because YUK to all the pearl finishes one after another this year 😂
I love ranking videos. They are so fun! OPI is definitely the worst brand for me. I didn’t enjoy their color stories and their quality seemed to take a nose dive. I would say Essie is probably my top brand.
So interesting to hear what other polish lovers think. Essie is my number one. Beautiful color stories and formulas great brushes especially the Gel Couture line. Orly at Number 2 they have great colors, brush, formulas too and Morgan Taylor which was a favorite is quite disappointing last few collections because like you said: b o r i n g. An honorable mention to China Glaze for all the interesting colors/textures they gave us but lately- no.
I dislike Orly. I bought two of them and the color are so off from the pix on their website. Both brushes are wonky. The formula is thick and have no self-leveling characteristic. Yuck 🤢 ILNP is so much better.
Man, I still think about that OPI Iceland collection to this day, and I'm not someone who remember collections. I agree with you that OPI should go back to that because it was a lot of fun to see how different countries inspired different color collections. Puerto Rico is a great idea!
So many good colors could come out of a Puerto Rico collection.
I was really hoping Zoya would continue their color palette collections. The Sunset palette, the Rose palette, etc. I really liked those and liked the idea of a 5 piece ready to wear skittles manicure.
Yes! I’m surprised they didn’t continue. I would have loved to see more.
The Sunset palette! That’s what it was called lol

It could be!

I completely forgot that Orly did the NASA collection this year. Seems so long ago lol

Thank you Lisa! Good luck with the low buy. I don’t think I could do it. 😂

Zoya needs to step it up some more in 2024.

New subscriber here! Love your sincerity. Great video! 🥰

Zoya was number 6 for me yes china glaze was amazing this year ❤

Essie for sure needs to give us more than creams. I feel like their creams are better than MT though.
Do you have reviews of matte polishes (not top coats). The matte polishes in colours are so hard to find.
I don’t have reviews of matte polishes specifically.
I don't mind morgan Taylor's Cream polishes. I do alot of nail stamping and I need a good cream that I can easily apply and dries quickly on its own! 🙂
Their creams are good!

china glaze did a cuba, where I am from
Yes! I loved that collection!

OPI was just not good in 2023.
6. OPI, 5. Zoya, 4. China Glaze, 3. Orly, 2. Morgan Taylor, 1. Essie.
Oh you like MT huh? I feel like they could be great, they just need to stop playing it safe.
@naillacquertherapy it was a tough choice between MT and Essie for number 1. OPI was an easy 6, lol!
lol OPI was so boring this year!
So interesting to hear what other polish lovers think. Essie is my number one. Beautiful color stories and formulas great brushes especially the Gel Couture line. love china Glaze

Zoya last…always! Until they make their product match their price point.
What color are you wearing? Orly quality is trash so I feel they should tie w Morgan.
KB Shimmer Noel It All
Thank you for responding! ❤
I hate Morgan and Taylor bottles. Period!
They’re not my favorite either.
I dislike Orly. I bought two of them and the color are so off from the pix on their website. Both brushes are wonky. The formula is thick and have no self-leveling characteristic. Yuck 🤢 ILNP is so much better.
I have issues with ORLY self-leveling too but I'm not sure if that's because I was inexperienced when I used them.
I’ve never had an issue with their formula being thick.
