    I love how you make fun of your calves man, because I have the exact same problem. Hams and quads are crazy good, but calves are shitty, but we keep on trying! :D

    I've experienced this: didn't feel like shopping during a 2 week period. So I bought a few packages of steaks. Ate steak for lunch and dinner. 3rd day one steak wasn't enough so I started eating two per meal. Then 3 meals a day wasn't enough and I started eating 4-5x a day. I lost 15 pounds and my metabolism was through the roof with energy. I had to get back to eating normal because I didn't want to lose weight, my original goal was to bulk up.

    I used to have some cravings, but i recently thought of something and it has helped me a lot: 1 pack of oats, I use quaker instant express, 100 cals per serving, I boil around 250 ml of water, mix it together, put it in the microwave so it stiffens up a bit, then I add a little bit of salt and cinnamon and finally 2/3 of an apple sliced into small pieces, it has around 150 cals, but it fills me up a lot and it's delicious, kinda reminds me of applepie.

    Another useful variation on calves, doing isolation on each side, so one legged calf raises, esp on seated calf raises it works the calves a bit differently.

    Having bad food in the cupboard and fridge is the hardest to resist when the cravings come on! I work for a charity and people give us chocolate,sweets,cakes for our hard work and i just have to say no every single day!

    Merijn I was wondering - whether eating to gain weight or lose fat, when doing cardio, should you raise protein intake as you burn more calories? E.g. If my protein goal is 155g, if i do cardio, should my protein go up or stay the same regardless? Would be awesome if you could answer this 💪

      nah. Cause the body doesn't do shit w/ proteins, when your body has low glycogen levels... (like after intense workout or cardio)

    can you please explain why a higher fat intake during a refeed will more likely make you gain fat? Isn't the calorie intake all that matters?

      Well since 1g of fat equals 9 calories compared to protein and carbs having 4 calories per 1 gram, it makes sense to say that a higher fat intake will more likely make you gain fat since you are taking in more calories from the fat.

      In a refeed day you want to have a lot of carbohydrates because carbs are the only macronutrient which help regulate leptin levels. So you cut fats (they dont help as much as carbs to regulate leptin) and increase carbs.

      During a refeed, your body will use CHs to store glycogen and for energy. Fat is directly stored as body fat.
      (which is not bad at all, but remember in a refeed day you are eating slightly above maintenace, so, you do not want fat store as energy bodyfat),
      you want glycogen, performance and itensity at the gym and fix that leptin levels which means less hunger to keep cutting without insane cravings)

    re-feed days mean pasta for me! :) big bowl of pasta with tomato sauce ,tiny bit of olive oil and i combine it with low fat yogurt! damn good! that steak though....

    I was actually noticing this a couple of weeks ago...so I increased my carbs over a few days rather than all in one day. I talked to my trainer and he recommended I increase my carbs just a bit. Interestingly my hunger leveled off after a week and now I'm back to losing.

      Lennart van de Pas nope, im currently 700 cal over and im still fairly lean! Further in to your bulk you need to raise the amount of cal because you will not gain...

      If you wanna gain minimum fat and maximum muscle - then it is too much, try keeping it between 300-500 cal over maintenance.

      I didn't understand if you were talking about 700 calories above maintenance for BULKING or for a REFEED but I am going to be honest with you and try to give you the most comprehensive answer.
      IT DEPENDS, and I'll tell you why:
      1- Your NEAT (your activity besides cardio/workout) will probably go up. So by eating more calories you will tend to unconsciously move more and consequently burn more calories.
      2- It depends on which macronutrients you are consuming the most (due to the thermic effect of food). If you re consuming mainly protein the amount of fat you ll put on won't be as big as if you are consuming fat. Dietary fat is more readily "turned" into body fat. Carbs it depends whether your glycogen stores are depleted or not.
      3 - If you can lose weight at a nice rate while still having a 700 calories above maintenance refeed, why not?
      4- It depends on your metabolism. Every body is different.
      At the end of the day you won't know if it is too much until you try it, so give it a go for 2 weeks:
      -If you are talking about bulking see if you are gaining more than 1-2lbs/~0,5-1kg per week, if you are, just drop down calories by 200
      - If its a refeed check how long it takes to go below your "pre-refeed" weight if its taking more than 2-3 days then drop down your refeed calories by 200

      You need to eat above your maintenance level, consistently. That does not mean you need to eat unhealthy, but if necessary, feel free to eat some junk food in minimum.

    Can you explain the difference between complex carbs and other carbs?

      complex carbs are higher in whole grain and fiber so they digest slower and have less of an insulin spike while your body breaks them down..... simple carbs are less high in fiber and grain so they digest almost instantly hitting the blood stream within minutes which makes your insulin spike. Insulin spikes on a regular basis can tell your body to store fat and also leads to a bunch of health issues

      The problem with lactose is that a lot of people can't really digest it. I personally have acne and I decided to stop consuming foods with lactose (like cheese, milk, yogurt), and after I did that my face started getting better.
