  • On 5/14/24, my husband had back surgery at the same hospital (UAB) that I was in for 3 months after my motorcycle accident. Being back in that environment brought back some uncomfortable feelings and memories. While waiting during his surgery, I took a few minutes in my car to talk about and reflect on some of those difficult memories.

This story gives me chills every time I hear it. Can’t even begin to fathom all the emotions you were feeling in that moment. To be alert at that time. 😰

I'm ok! Overall, I don't have too much to complain about. I just wish I could replace the income I lost!

I’m not sure if this topic was ever addressed but you would make an awesome motivational speaker. Please consider!!! ❤

Christy I am also a Paramedic. I had a bad injury in my left arm which resulted in compartment syndrome in my peft hand and forearm. I had to have faciotomies on my forearm and hand and wrist. It got infected and turned into a year of infections, sepsis and multiple surgeries, total I believe is 14. And 3 separate skin grafts. I was able to return to the road as a medic. The 1st time I brought a pt to the hospital, I was in I had a strange reaction. Felt like Inwas going to cry and I became very nervous. I ended up taking my pt on the same floor I was at, and saw some of the nurses that took care of me. They didn't recognize me thankfully, I think have cried right therenin front of my pt. After what you went through though, you must have felt so wierd and terrified. ❤

I'm glad you were able to get back to work! I didn't feel terrified, but definitely felt weird. I would say it put me in more of a reflective mood.

I Always tell people about your story, I work in Radiology in the U.K, what you've been through is unbelievable but honestly love that fact you're here to tell your story! Hope you're well and okay, especially being at the place you experienced the trauma you did during your procedures and recovery, also wishing Lee a smooth and speedy recovery after his surgery! Big hugs sent your way xx

When I had my accident I was awake and could feel everything. The IV into my leg just under the knee cap then the pelvic belt they used the setting of my wrist and the drill going through my other leg so they could put traction on that side... it was hell I wish I couldn't remember it.... best of luck in your healing I've kinda given up on trying to get my pain under control but im pushing through it i just stop going to the doctor for it

I hope Lee is doing well after his surgery! I'm a few days behind on your videos, so I'm catching up tonight. Have you ever thought about doing another Q and A video?? If so, i have questions for you.
1 When you could feel them drilling, was it excruciating pain? Or did they sedate you too quickly to realize it hurt?
2 When you temporarily "checked out", did you feel a certain way or see anything?
3 When did you fully realize how bad you had been injured?
4 What's the first thing you remember that Lee said to you?
    ❤❤❤

Oh my word, I can’t even fathom 8 months in the hospital! I’m glad you’re still here, though!
