    I had a similar problem about 2 years ago. I did the same test of the EGR valve and it was working fine (it would hold vacuum and the car would stall out) so I replaced the EGR Vacuum Regulator solenoid. NO JOY ! I finally realized I was not getting a good vacuum flow to the EVR. Followed the vacuum line back and found one soft and leaking spot in the hose. Cheap fix.

  • @snarlbug
    @snarlbug 4 роки тому +4

    That hand vac pump has a little metal pintle sticking up on top of the cylinder just above the fitting so you can bleed vacuum off easily. No need to disconnect.
    Also, those older EGR valves may have a tiny air bleed hole so that when the vacuum is removed, it will bleed off and allow the diaphragm to return back. It works with full vacuum because it's a tiny, calibrated hole. But to the hand pump, it looks like a bad EGR valve. If the EGR valve is on top where you can see it, you can often see the hole right next to the vacuum connector. On those, you can put your finger right on the hole and test with the hand pump. Or just run a temporary hose from full vacuum somewhere to test the valve.

      yeah, gm and others were great at having fixed orifice bleed holes, the metal would rust at the orifice or pick up grit and grime changing or stopping the bleed off, resulting in over opening and causing all sorts of havoc, like massive vacuum loss and lean-out stumble right at throttle tip-in. that was days of carburetors to odb1 and i think some obd2 still had the same (too many things in my head to recall it all)

    I had a 2004 that had an even more weird problem. The EGR vacuum solenoid would start out OK then, as it warmed up, would increase in resistance until it stopped closing. As the system is designed backwards (the valve has to operate to STOP EGR flow) the result was EGR at idle resulting in intermittent stalling. 2 Idle control valves later, I figured it out. Although we no longer have the car I kept the valve, promising myself I would disassemble it one day to understand how the coil was doing that. After 40+ years in electronics, I thought I had seen everything. Great fix here Ivan as usual!

    Ahhh- yes, the vacuum HOSE days, back in the vacuum HOSE days, 98.9% was the vacuum hoses you need to begin with and make sure you have a tight fit and then you go to the next step especially if you put the silicone hoses which fit the best and last longer, a lot longer!!

    Need video for Toyota Prius 3rd gen? Anyway, from much research.....to remove the EGR cooler/assemble...... use an extra reach 12 mm racheting wrench for the three Nuts in the back. I had a hard time reaching the 4th HIDDEN 12 mm nut underneath the EGR cooler. Then, used a Torx E8 socket for the two Bolts ( in the back of EGR cooler) and I finally freed the EGR assembly. It's literally impossible to remove EGR valve only for DYI non professional therefore we must remove the whole EGR assembly. Good video PINE H !!!

    Eventually a 4 stage chroma gas chemical analysis was performed and it was determined the rubber hose was old and deteriorated causing atmospheric air to enter. Update! A further analysis was done and showed a sparkplug wire leaking caused ozone accelerating the rubber breakdown. Update!! An analysis of local air pollution in the car's zip code indicated local elevated ozone contributed to the vacuum hose failure. Update!!!

    Kia used a very similar system on their older V6 engine. It was pretty commonplace for shops to replace cracked vacuum lines not realizing the OEM had small brass fixed orifice to regulate flow as well and this would cause a P0401 even if all parts were working correctly. I’m curious if Mitsubishi did something similar.

    • @DenisDamulira23
      @DenisDamulira23 Рік тому

      They did. The little restrictor aka small brass fixed orifice is on the line from the barrel shaped ""vacuum control valve". Don't know where to source one since i changed out all the lines, solenoid and EGR valve. The restrictor controls the flow so the valve doesn't open or close too fast. Car hesitates but doesn't throw a code. it will not complete the run cycle and be smog ready.

      sometimes a guage is just easier to see but there's no reason you couldnt. the nice thing about those pumps is you have a direct read vacuum guage and a pump to supply vacuum if needed. i have one that will pump vacuum or pressure with the flip of a switch. sometimes you can pressure a line and use soapy water to find the bubbles

Literally almost new everything. I even cleaned the egr pipe which had a lot of carbon build up. I'll need to go through every small hose again or just replace them to see what happens. Help! So, like an idiot i used my lights to see into a garage i was working on for a couple days. I started the engine and let the alternator donits thing. Was driving fine (2000 Mitsubishi montero sport 3.0 ls 2wd) went to another job. Accidentally left door cracked. Battery dead. Client jumps me...and
    ..idiot...i removed positive first. Immediately after starting to drive there was a grinding noise almost like something was in my tire or coming off the axle. Went to pull over about a block up and all hell broke loose. First the srs light then abs light i go to brake and it doesnt, i press again and its like immediate insane hard stop then with my foot still on the brake it lunges. I throw it in park and take the key out. Got it towed home. Now, battery fully charged, fuses all checked and are good. Dont know how to check relays. When i tried to start it b4 the tow truck got there it was rapid clicking and nothing but still was able to roll my power windows up and lock doors and door lights all work. Went to start it at home after fully charging (10 month old) battery and not even a clicking sound. Nothing. What the heck is going on? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my only vehichle and its my baby. I basically rehauled the whole upper engine in the last 2 years due to egr codes which have now been cleared. All vacuum lines and hoses have been replaced. Spark plugs and wires (coils were good) valve cover gaskets and orings on spark plug wells cam seals throttle body overhauled cps tps pcv valve coolant flush oil change egr and solenoid all replaced ran seafoam through the vacuum and pcv new air filters new ac drive belt and tensioner pulley.
