  • This Chrysler PT Cruiser Turbo blows the main ASD fuse every time you turn the ignition key ON. Then it doesn't start.
    Keith (New Level Auto) and Steve (Simply Diagnostics) already diagnosed this one by the time I got there, so they put me on the spot to diagnose the issue!
    THE PRESSURE IS REAL!
    Enjoy!

    After watching some of Keith's other videos with the Pulsar, I started an email convo with IPAtools.com (who USED to manufacture the pulsar tool.) They informed me they are "considering" a new improved model of the pulsar 9000, which will either be late this year or early 2020. I'll bet if enough people inquired and influenced them to make the tool, it'd help! Keith if you see this -- let them know we want the new tool! You seem to be in contact with all major companies and their support teams :)

    Good job! My guess is that the original coil failed (internal short) and blew the FET and/or damper diode in the PCM. It is sad how many of these things fail that can easily be fixed on a electronics bench. But customers want it fixed NOW! If it was mine, I certainly would take it apart and fix it myself.

    Very Nice. That Pulsar is a nice tool. For now I just have my clamp meter and homemade fused wire loop and a bucket of fuses. I've been trying to talk myself into one of those circuit breaker fuses but I haven't done it yet. I don't get to do as much troubleshooting as I'd like and video like this are super helpful learning experiences.

    • @jamesd2482
      @jamesd2482 4 роки тому

      Was thinking the same thing about a circuit breaker since I'm not a mech any fancy tools outside of a scope and amp clamp wouldn't be worth my needs. Not sure even that would be necessary since it was blowing the fuse we knew current was high and a short to ground was suspect. I wonder if the coil had anything to do with it frying though and would be hesitant to slap a new computer in without checking everything on that circuit. As a dyi person my main goal is to save money and not use spendy tools if I can.

    That Pulsar tool is neat. I have a short circuit tester that you put in a circuit breaker in the place of the blown fuse. Then you use this needle gauge against the suspect wire to see which way the needle bounces (left or right). That tells you which direction the short is in the wire. Of course it only works if you can access the wire easily which isn't always the case. It works though, a very handy tool. Good video, I've thought about getting a tool like the Pulsar or maybe the "power probe", anything that will assist with electrical diagnosis.

  • @windward2818
    @windward2818 Рік тому

    A smart ignition IGBT pre-driver IC (or monitor circuit) for ignition will have full diagnostics on the driver itself. So, if the driver is not being commanded on by the pre-driver, but the output is on (being pulled low) then the PCM should be able to report status (PID) or fault (DTC) on this circuit. This is helpful if you want repair the module yourself (replace a shorted IGBT) or if you want to send the module out for repair. Also, we are assuming that there is not issue with the connector pins, either corrosion or a bent pin on the module side.
    If you look at the battery for this vehicle, if not original, many times it will look small compared to the room available on the battery tray. This is because the original battery was actually a special sub-category of the group size (special meaning high output) which is no longer available. The closest battery to the original available is actually one made for a BMW. I know for a fact that the battery replacement listing for AAA in their look-up roadside cross reference is the wrong battery. With the vehicle stand time less than two weeks and expected life or about 4 months.
