@@McCannDogs I've been watching tons and tons of your videos but I'm encountering the same concern about the house line. My puppy is a 14 week old 3 1/2 lb Biewer/poodle mix and those breeds have trachea issues so using a normal collar I'm VERY apprehensive about (I have to use a ferret harness right now she's still too small for a harness even...she has a 6 inch neck so very delicate) I'm all for using the houseline but is there an alternative or do you have a harness or safe collar for my puppy you could recommend? Thank you guys for all your excellent help!
I am sorry but this video is about any size dog training not specifically small breed dogs. It would be greate to learn from you what is better for small dogs: collar, harness, gentle leader, leash lenght? Leash walking technique for little leash pullers, leash reactive dogs. Should i stay or seat on the floor while training small dog? Couch jumping? My chiweenie had troubles learning "down" command because she is already low to the ground and had no need to follow my hand with a treat luring her to lay on the floor. Crowling under leg technique helped in her case after trying all others. Small dogs and their owners behaviour around big/bigger dogs even friendly ones and children who like to pet? Bring your small dog to the dog park or safer do not? That's just what came to my mind but i'm sure there is a lot more. Anyway thank you for the video!
You make me remember when the first time I got a puppy. And have no experience in training dogs. It's used to a very hard time for me. He didn't listen to me, he's chewing, he's digging all the time, he's bad behavior... But now everything changed. :D After train with good/right ways, Now He's an obedient and well-behaved dog.
Every crating video I’ve seen makes it look so easy. Just once I’d like to see someone show the actual agony of trying to ignore your dog while it’s yipping up a storm.
Jack Russel Terriers are the supreme overlords of the dog world. Could not imagine being without at least one Jack Russel in my life. Best breed ever. Jacks don't know how to be miserable. "Shark Bait" is a hilarious name. Love the content as always guys ! It's so important to get these things right as soon as puppy comes home and save a load of hassle later on. Great points at the end about small dogs. SO MANY people forgot small dogs are still dogs and need the same rules, especially smart little Jacks (who are big dogs in a little package).
Can confirm on the supervise thing lol 🤣 My dog from when I got her (5mths) to about 10-12mths would be on a leash with me and still occasionally will do it (she's now almost 1.5yrs) and it helped alot and when I'm out she's kenneled and it helped so much with training (along with other aspects) because there are 4 other kids, 2 adults, 2 other dogs, and 2 cats and she's a mal x lab it helped her with those distractions:]
I'm planning on getting a little dog by 2025 like a chihuahua, papillon, pomeranian, mini schnauzer, or toy poodle (or mixes of the above) and she will be trained along my service dog (as mentioned in the above comment [she's medical and psychiatric alert and response) and will be in training to be one her self. I've never had a small dog before but I've been working with a frenchie x Boston terrier mix and getting used to it. I have a collar, bowls, leash, and kennel but will obviously be getting alot more lol She is going to be around my dogs age 1-2 and not really a puppy but I'm super excited! :D
Thanks for the video! I have 6 months old Papillon pup and it has been a hard time since we used to own bigger dogs when I was little. Thanks to having a good kennel I learned quite many things that you could also make a video about. For example, how to discipline (especially pups with an attitude) or even cut their nails is to put them on their back on your lap between legs (have to be careful with their head and neck), they usually calm down then and it's easier to handle it and it doesn't hurt them at all. One thing I discovered is that my pup didn't pull the leash to go forward but stayed back and always checks behind, thanks to this channel I got it better with just regular training. I think it's also an art to get your small breed's dog's attention outside and keeping your back healthy since they are so small. Another thing that is harder for smaller breeds is teething, I did have to have a doctor's appointment to remove some baby teeth because sometimes they are just not coming out and I know there are some tricks to help with it. It would be also cool if you taught some tricks to teach for small pups and how appropriate they are for the age, I know that until some time their bones are developing and they shouldn't get too much exercise or jump down from too high. Looking forward to your next videos! Thanks again for everything you share!

Wow! Thanks for the video. I am getting a Parson Russel Terrier in a couple of weeks. I had no idea I had to downsize the treats. The ones I have been using for my adult Westie has been just fine.
I usually tell this to my those who purchased my book: "When you are walking and working in a rhythmic leadership mode, you have clearer thinking and a sharpened mindset that ignites your purpose, passion, and priorities."
Hi, we just adopted a super tiny dog (toy poodle and chi mix) she's only two pounds. In another video you used a back scratcher for "healing" dogs to your side, she doesn't care for peanut butter currently, is there another safe option for her that is also soft?
Thank you for this video ! Very informative for my new 3 month old Shihtzu, Evie 😁 What do you recommend for when she starts playing to rough when my older dog doesn't want to ? It causes my older dog to like air snap at her and I'm trying to get them to get along ? Any suggestions?

At my mums, she has a reactive/anxious Dutch Shepard and for now i am here. We have 2 pups, as well as my 2. Great question, i will check out the vid after. Thank you
Can I ask about nyla bones - I see so many people warning against them in facebook groups. Is there anything to be concerned about them? Lots of claims of toxic chemicals etc.
If you're concerned about it, there are a lot of more natural, chews--bully sticks (they come in small sizes for small dogs, too), no hide chews, fish skin chews. I get small marrow bones (like an inch thick), and let my puppy clean those out, then freeze wet food in the middle. She also really likes beef cheek chips and gullet sticks. Puppies especially seem to like a variety of textures. I mean, nylabones are nylon infused with flavorings, and nylon is a type of plastic, so they're probably not the best thing in the world. I did get one for my puppy, but she just...doesn't care about it at all, so I had to pivot to different options.
I ill be getting a an 8 week old Jack Russel terrier and Chihuahua mix. I watched through your puppy series from take home to the first week. Loved it. Any advice for the breed mix i have. I heard that Jack Russell terriers can be hard to train.
I adopted my jack russel mix and he’s probably around 5 or 6. He was definitely abused by previous owners, he attacks vacuums, brooms, lawn mowers, any aerosol spray, other dogs (on the tv too, he’s ruined a couple flat screens) and all strangers. I took him on a hike yesterday and somehow slipped out of his harness and bit another hiker. I feel like I am so out of options. He trusts me but he is just so anxious aaaaaaall the time and when he’s overwhelmed I cannot get his attention or anything. It’s really hard to exercise him because he has bitten other people on walks a around our house.
Hi! I had a Jack for 14 years. Adopted him as an older puppy and he had issues too . Bit people , attacked other dogs, etc but he was an awesome loyal buddy . We took him to basic obedience classes. Also, use the “nothing in life is free” tactic.... anything he gets he has to give a sit or a shake paw or a lie down etc. Want to go out ? Sit please... come on the couch? Only when you invite him up after a sit command. Food? Use for basic commands. Play fetch in a corner so he is close to you to bring ball back .. do this for awhile to burn some energy before a walk Use mind games .. jacks are smart!! Look up mental stimulation for dogs on UA-cam Hope this helps. Jacks are great they just need guidance or they get problematic 💜💜
Thank you! This was really helpful! I see a lot of you guys use carrier-like crates at home to keep you dogs in. Do you recommend using those over wire crates?
Hi there, Monica! Hard sided crates are a little cleaner for puppy crates. They provide a little more enclosure and they’re simple to pick up and transport around. That’s a big reason so many of our trainers use this type of crate! Thanks for watching ~Ken
I have watched al your videos and everything is working except the snapping and biting. I’ve tried everything you recommend and he’s still really rough at times. Any advice
Do you have any advice for training a tiny yorkie to go on puppy pads? How would that crate training work? Due to the circumstances that is how I will need to train.
I would think the same way as training them to go outside. You'd want to discourage going in the crate, but encourage pottying on the pad--so you take them there when you let them out and give them treats when they do their business on it.
@@CaduceusErin Thank you but since I posted this question I decided to teach myself how to train my dogs. LOL I have also decided I don't want a dog that goes in the house as it only confuses them. I no longer have any of my tiny dogs sadly. They lived a long happy life though. I will be getting another yorkie within the year so I will implement training then.
Hi, I have a mixed rat terrie rescued puppy and we live in a city. She just turned 3 months and we are able to get her out. We were potty trainning her in the pads cause we couldn´t get her out. Now we are getting her out every one or two hours but she is keeping it and want to pee at home in the pads. What could we do? If we take away the pads she is going to the area that the pads should be and just pee. She is refusing to do it outside...
