Come on, really? Everything that happened to him growing up, happened to me. I never killed anyone. I had fantasies of killing my abusers but never acted on them. That... is ...not ... an excuse!
In the most recent study, 74% of serial killers experienced childhood trauma and 42% experienced trauma during young adulthood (13-18). Do we ignore that? What if understanding what causes people do to these things could help prevent others from doing them? I'm glad you made better choices, but that doesn't mean it isn't a factor. It's not about blame, it's about understanding.
It wasn’t an excuse it’s an indicator to a cause or an explanation for that behaviour. You made it good afterwards but others don’t, and often it’s because of their backgrounds. It’s still wrong of course, but it’s just shows what damage like that untreated with a weak mind can do
The fact that those who knew him were saying what a great, gentle guy he was, including the women he'd dated... just goes to show. Doesn't matter what someone's reputation is with a thousand people. All it takes is one victim. You never fully know someone's demons, especially if they keep them meticulously hidden.
I like how they use words like: sweet, kind, tender, big hearted and gentle. Meanwhile he had a string of 12 women he abused (that we know of) and made 1 of them feel so terrified she fled back to INDIA to ensure her safety. None of these things ever seem to matter though, they show that in plea deals and lenient sentencing.
Exactly. There are people on here actually defending him. Bad childhood..who fucking cares? My childhood was difficult, but i have these human traits like a conscience and a heart and empathy for others and revulsion at people being hurt or scared. You lack these things, thats from birth, not life circumstances.
and the one term they refused to give him is RACIST. A black guy killed 2 white girls and yet nobody dared to call them hate crimes. Guaranteed that a white man killing 2 black woman would have the entire media questioning a racial motive. This is obviously not equality when black people get a free pass with hate crimes
@@BornIn1500 It appears that you don't know what the term "hate crime" means. A racial hate crime would be when the crime is committed specifically due to race as a motive. Race wasn't the motive in these cases there is no evidence to support that. The motive in these cases was that he had homicidal urges. Learn what the terms you're throwing around mean. If his motive was to target white people then he wouldn't have targeted a bunch of women of other races including his own.
Having gone clubbing many times during my teens, the one thing you always knew when coming out of the club is that there are desperate dudes, predators and the police lurking to catch a prey and the latter for a drunk driver. He's definitely a serial killer.. no way he went 4 or 5 years in between! I'd be searching those remote areas again and see if he's got any trophies stashed away!
There are at least 6 others that he may have murdered. La-Teasha Lamone Brooks, Julie Marie Fraser, Autumn Wind Day, Sophia Rivera, Shellie Carson, and Cassandra Morton. The last two were brutally beaten and the rest their bodies have never been found.
I remember standing outside a club in Baltimore watching this guy go after only the women stumbling, one of them was my cousin, I wasnt having it. You have to insist on accompanying your friends. Never let them go home alone.
There are about 2 or 3 cases of women disappearing in that area which do seem to fit with this criminal. It’s sick to think most of these cases and women, the public knows nothing about them.
This could’ve been avoided 1000%. I mean it doesn’t take a genius to say that this guy has had 12 victims come forward and it wasn’t going to be his last.
My childhood was outright hellish - so was most of my adulthood, and I never turned into a murdering lunatic. Suffering made me strong, and having empathy for others made me even stronger.
same with me, but unfortunately this kind of upbringing can create sociopaths or narcissists as well... As others have said, 100% sick of hearing violent criminals' sob stories. It was everyone's fault but theirs. That's what criminals do - they lie and accuse others for their actions. Victim's family is forever tied to their child's murderer, as, no doubt, he will be working the system and applying for pleas and retrials. A lovely life was lost, and we're all left with worst of humanity, and so everything continues to be just a little worse for everyone.
Black people kill white people 24× than the opposite. So are you also tired of hearing the ALL colors do this excuse? Accept reality. The crime problem in America is a culture problem
And I'm 100% sick of people misinterpreting the reason for pointing out an offenders background. It's not about blame or making excuses, it's about understanding. MANY, not ALL, killers have experienced some form of trauma in their childhood. Do we ignore that? Should we only address the symptoms and not the illness? Should we just give up on trying to prevent these people from making these types of choices through understanding what led them to make said choices? Do you care? Have you ever even wondered? Take your emotions out of the equation. Prevention is much more appealing than punishment.. or at least it should be. This doesn't change what was already done. Of course he deserves punishment, which he received (not harsh enough in my opinion), but what we should also be doing is finding ways to intervene BEFORE the crime was committed. Whether that be more focus on children who've experienced trauma, more attention on every child's environment, or something else. Will we prevent all violent crimes? Obviously not, but even if it helps prevent just one loss of life, I'd say it's worth it.. do you not agree? I'm sure you're thinking "well not all people who experience childhood trauma turn into a killer", but that doesn't change the fact that the _majority_ of serial killers did. It is important to recognise the complexities of a human being. That said, his background may explain INFLUENCES on his behaviours but not for a nano second does it ever justify his behaviours primarily because we all have freewill and therefore he made personal choices that led to his horrific behaviours.

I’ve lived in Charlottesville for over 30yrs. Lived through both Hannah’s and Morgan’s disappearances and murders; both heartbreaking cases. 💔 It was a very scary time especially for young women/girls in the area. My own daughter was a student at UVA from 2011-2015. I was terrified for her safety. I remember the day that over a thousand C’ville residents searched for Hannah. Both my daughter and my sister participated (I had to work that day or I would have been there as well). It was also terrifying when we learned who the murderer was and that he had lived and worked and gone about his daily life and activities (even volunteering as assistant football coach at a local school!) undetected and among us for so many years! I was so relieved when he was sentenced to life in prison with NO CHANCE of parole. Thank you to the Graham and Harrington families for holding firm and rejecting that first plea deal! They no doubt have saved the lives of even MORE young women with their actions and insistence on justice for Hannah and Morgan! I also am very critical of and assign blame to BOTH Liberty University AND Christopher Newport College! Both schools allowed him to get away with NO ACCOUNTABILITY for the SA’s he perpetrated on fellow students there. They allowed him to leave quietly instead of reporting his SA’s to police!! BOTH of those schools bear some responsibility for the deaths of Hannah and Morgan, imo! IF Liberty U & Christopher Newport had ACTED RESPONSIBLY and reported him to police, he probably would have already been incarcerated and not walking around freely to assault AT LEAST 3 more women (that we know of/probably even more!) and to murder 2 of them! SHAME ON LIBERTY UNIV & CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT COLLEGE for their irresponsible and immoral handling of this now convicted murderer, whose name is not worth mentioning. 😓

RIP to the victims, I hope you all have found peace.
In cases like this why do the state agree to a plea deal if they have such conclusive evidence against someone ? Surely they didn't even need a confession and could seek the death penalty.
Because they also let the family have a say in it because of the stress and horror of having to listen in detail through a trial about what happened to their loved ones. Having to listen to how your daughter was snatched before having her clothing torn off so some pos could then violate her body before bashing her face to a pulp to kill her I couldn't imagine. It's bad enough knowing she was murdered but I'm sure they would rather not spend a week or more hearing the details.
Can this generation complete a single sentence, much less a conversation, without saying "like" every few words? When did this become so acceptable and commonplace? What's happening to our language skills?

Well not to detract from how horrible this case was I have to say that it's not just ladies that need to watch out for one another. That is due to the fact that, from the report the WHO released a couple years ago, an average of 400,000 homicides occur every year. 80.9% of the victims are male.
No, if he hadn’t been caught he wouldn’t have stopped. He got away with it once and that’s why he was comfortable when he crossed paths w/Hannah. I’m sure he would have just continued to develop into an even MORE evil monster.

And this is why we watch out for our fellow human beings everyone. If one person had insisted to walk with Hannah, friend or stranger, she would still be alive today. Keep an eye out for each other! Do everything you possibly can, even at the risk of acting like an asshole, to keep others safe and out of predatory clutches. RIP Hannah 🙏🏻
The problem is that if a male had tried helping her get home he would've risked other passerbys labeling him a creep or the next day when she woke up and was telling her 'friends' they would have basically preached for her to "be careful because he'll probably stalk you or something." Sadly, that's the way society has become.
When she said i'm lost in the SNS message was the last chance that her friends could save her. I wish somebody told her to stop walking around drunk, stay still at safe place and wait for a friend to pick her up.
I'm so tired of hearing people attempting to justify these horrible acts by pointing out that they had horrible childhoods. Many people, unfortunately, can say the same yet they would never dream of harming anyone. It's quite simply not an excuse.

From what I've learned over the years, I strongly believe that when certain disturbances occur in early childhood or adulthood, individuals might tend to revolve their lives around seeking power over others. This can stem from a desire to overcome feelings of powerlessness and weakness. While extreme violence characterizes this case (combined with extremely bad personality traits), it's important to note that others may impose different forms of abuse, such as narcissism, alcoholism etc. Unfortunately, this world is unjust.

It is actually cheaper to have life than death penalty. I like the idea of living a long time to suffer.
Or the oubliette 🤔
The fact that he attacks women also shows that.
I was thinking the same thing. He ought to have got the death penalty.
Come on, really? Everything that happened to him growing up, happened to me. I never killed anyone. I had fantasies of killing my abusers but never acted on them. That... is ...not ... an excuse!

I’m so sorry that happened to you. Thank you for sharing…❤
So what, are you implying that people can choose to not let traumatic experiences define them and dictate their behavior? Nonsense.
Very good way of wording this.
They were probably fulla shit anyway
Absolutely agree
Just a master manipulator
He was drunk and made a mistake
I like how they use words like: sweet, kind, tender, big hearted and gentle. Meanwhile he had a string of 12 women he abused (that we know of) and made 1 of them feel so terrified she fled back to INDIA to ensure her safety.
None of these things ever seem to matter though, they show that in plea deals and lenient sentencing.
Sociopaths often put a front of kindness. It's false, and is just a way to hide amongst normal people.
Exactly. There are people on here actually defending him. Bad childhood..who fucking cares? My childhood was difficult, but i have these human traits like a conscience and a heart and empathy for others and revulsion at people being hurt or scared. You lack these things, thats from birth, not life circumstances.
Then mentioning this only makes his crimes really sound as horrific as they really were
and the one term they refused to give him is RACIST.

As others have said, 100% sick of hearing violent criminals' sob stories. It was everyone's fault but theirs. That's what criminals do - they lie and accuse others for their actions.

Our past shapes who we are, for better or worse, but we still have agency, we still autonomy, and we still have the ability to choose how we behave. Trauma is a tragedy, but it is never an excuse to hurt others.

Regardless of what upbringing? So you're saying it's genetic? Nah. Some people just can't handle the same type of stress as you. Not everyone is working with the same coping skills and brain chemistry. Upbringing has lots to do with it. Upbringing is exactly why he has zero empathy for his victims and their families and how he was able to do this.
My heart goes out to you, sending you a big hug. However, just because you reacted a certain way to abuse does not mean someone else will, their circumstances will have been different. They will have a different personality to you, different parents, different peer group, different siblings, possibly a different cultural background set against different legislation if raised in a different country to you, they will internalise and interpret information & events differently to you hence their response may well differ, and they will be genetically different to you and have gone through a different socialisation process. It is important to recognise the complexities of a human being. It was a very scary time especially for young women/girls in the area. My own daughter was a student at UVA from 2011-2015. I was terrified for her safety.
I remember the day that over a thousand C’ville residents searched for Hannah. Both my daughter and my sister participated (I had to work that day or I would have been there as well).

I was so relieved when he was sentenced to life in prison with NO CHANCE of parole.

It's bad enough knowing she was murdered but I'm sure they would rather not spend a week or more hearing the details.
Can this generation complete a single sentence, much less a conversation, without saying "like" every few words? When did this become so acceptable and commonplace? What's happening to our language skills?
I agree. If I had to be around her for a few hours I'd go nuts.
Omg! It isnt like she's a teenager🙄🙄🙄 like maybe they are still young and like we all had this kind of stage like.. You know. Grumpy old man
@@Caillouteletub123ppl lack real problems I think
This is what we are taking away from this 😮
I never realized the detail in your videos until I watched this video. I lived in Charlottesville during the time, and know the area well. So much of the quick couple-second clips isn't just stock footage to fill time, it's actual video of the sites & people involved in this case.
Humans, please DO NOT DRINK alcohol at all! Intoxication is such a sad state to be in... you spend precious money, precious time & your energy is wasted for NOTHING! Far too many people get taken advantage of because of this poison called alcohol! May the victims RIP
Especially women!
So glad he was caught. May every victim be at peace now.
Sidebar: that outro! I still love it. ❤❤❤
Thanks for not using kiddie gloves when talking about adult topics.
Thanks for not allowing this nonsense censorship to intimidate you.
This sa, unalived bs is getting ridiculous.
Oh wow. The news never showed him walking and putting his arm around her or her walking around disoriented. That's sad to leave for a fun night out and end up a victim of a sick man like him. He probably has a deep seeded hatred for women. Doesn't excuse what he did but he was a real piece of work assaulting that many women...sad
It makes no difference how traumatic your childhood was, it does not give you the right to murder another person or excuse violent behavior!!!!!! If everyone with a horrific childhood behaved this way it would be anarchy and chaos.
I will never ever let my drunken friend or family member walk home by themselves no matter how the situation is or what they say to me I will ignore it and make sure they get home safely. Sending prayers and comfort for the entire families and friends.
They’re always choir boys when their family describes them…
Young ladies pls stick together when you are out partying / drinking. This is such an avoidable situation!!! There are predators out there just waiting an opportunity to struck!!!
Absolutely great advice 🙏👏 life saving
Well not to detract from how horrible this case was I have to say that it's not just ladies that need to watch out for one another. That is due to the fact that, from the report the WHO released a couple years ago, an average of 400,000 homicides occur every year. 80.9% of the victims are male.
And avoid that kind!!
Why should these monsters be allowed the choice of life, when their victims were not allowed that same choice?
No, if he hadn’t been caught he wouldn’t have stopped. He got away with it once and that’s why he was comfortable when he crossed paths w/Hannah. I’m sure he would have just continued to develop into an even MORE evil monster.
The way he looks trustworthy and kind just shows to never judge a book by its cover

“Just under 6 feet tall” as you show us his wanted poster where it states he’s over 6 foot 😂. Little stuff like this really pulls me out of the story sometimes lol. I hate the way my head works sometimes
Don't hate it embrace it❤️
And this is why we watch out for our fellow human beings everyone.
Unfortunately there’s no one safe from parasites like this!!! Next time you see your friend needing to go home and they are intoxicated and walking home alone regardless of their saying I’m fine I don’t need you to walk me home!!! Don’t let them!!! Please don’t take no for an answer when it comes to your friends!!! I have never left a friend behind or alone regardless of how bad I wanted to go home!!! I just don’t understand this generation of young adults!!! Please be a friend a real friend!!! There is no reason for this!!!
Why do we have to pay to keep him alive?
Yes it doesn't makes sense,he brutally killed raped 3 human and he's just chilling in the jail, that's how you make safer world
The death penalty actually costs more than life in prison
@@candice_ecidnacIt shouldn't have to.

I feel for the family. this man was obviously a sick and troubled man and it is so unfortunate he took two women's lives.
That thing is not a man!!
He is BEYOND HELP AND EVIL ALTOGETHER total serial killer and there are maybe more bodies now is all I feel left to find. Sending love to both victims families
Girls should learn lesson from this Not to walk alone in night .
Her 'friends' FAILED her by letting her leave alone!🧐😢
College campuses and the communities they reside in should be safe places for people to get an education and grow up and discover themselves. Unfortunately they aren’t, and you have to be very careful. Especially going out at night drinking.
There are literally two unis up the street. They get peeping toms and the like. We know that there is usually an escalation process....
No where is safe and you do not have a right to safety. You have the liberty to keep yourself safe. If you choose to lick the boots of the system that is your mistake.
Why is it that when people go out with friends for drinks attend and event with “friends “ and yet not a single friend get it in their minds to move as a unit ALWAYS. Regardless of how close or how far we maybe from our residences.
This channel always comes across as having more empathy and sympathy for the killer, over the victims and their families.
Because of the color of the pos killer!!
Unfortunately, this world is unjust.
imagine watching someone's life flickering away at your own violent hands and then being afraid of the death penalty!! Coward!!
I know this isn’t anything to do with hannah but the amount of times that girl said ‘like’ in her interview was infuriating.
True. She needs someone to deliberately say "like" at her every time she says it, to make her conscious of how often she's saying it. That would "cure" her.
@@blatherskite3009No excuse. It's, like 😊 irritating.
UA-cam is stupid for having certain words being censored. They are dumb for doing this!!
This is garbage. You are shaped by your experiences but no one takes away your own will and ability to NOT do these disgusting actions. … gross human
How does admitting double murder lead to a lesser punishment? System is whack.
Special privileges for a certain kind!!
Geez it’s really unusual to see someone of that demographic commit such violent acts.
I love how you can freely say ‘murderer’, but have to bleep out the word ‘rapist’. WTF UA-cam????
