Moving the narrowboat from the top of lock 2 on the Droitwich Barge canal (near Hawford Junction) and up to Droitwich Spa itself. I end up on the visitor moorings at Netherwich basin and go for a walk around Vines Park.

Theme music: "Vespers" by Topher Mohr and Alex Alena, from the UA-cam music library
Loads of boat channels popping up, but 'journey with jono' and yourself are by far the most polished and well produced. Always a joy to watch!
Very kind :-)
"...which is odd because they're swans." You're the best show on youtube. I love watching your productions!!
Ha, thank you!
Your videos make feel at rest with the World. Thanks for the peace ✌️
I really loved you taking time to show off the town this time. Would be awesome for you to include more of that in future videos. Ventures into town at each stop. Even for the mundane things like shopping. Gives us overseas viewers a glimpse into another part of the world! Very enjoyable channel - Thanks for the content!!
I doubt I'll do much of it elsewhere, maybe the occasional shot or so - if I've gone into town for shopping, I'd usually rather just get that done than spend time filming it! Glad you liked it though.
Please!! :)
You have a great way of sharing the right balance of detail and beauty, without getting lost in either - yet I always feel like I need another 10 minutes. Thank you!
Glad you like it! Cheers
We appreciate that you show us that you do make mistakes at locks etc. Making it real, so to say.
I'm trying to limit viewing to one-a-day. They are so interesting and soothing - I don't want to use them all up.
One a day, your not a fan. Lol
Undergrowth and overgrowth, wombling free.... (Love it!)
A vicious circle with the encroaching bulrushes. If folk can't moor and dawdle at their own pace they won't use the canal so much perhaps and the bulrushes will close in again. Adding some moorings may attract more traffic because it seemed nice and quiet with lovely scenery.
I’m stuck in Shanghai during all this corona craziness. Stumbling upon your channel has been a blessing. Living a bit vicariously through these Vlogs. Hoping you’re well!
David, your excruciating puns are always a joy but this time you have excelled yourself - simply magnificent (or spa-tacular)
Haha, thank you
I cannot get enough of the English countryside and the beautiful villages and towns. Thank you once again for sharing these things with us. It's a shame the vandals do not appreciate what they have there.
Hello David - I found your channel a few ago and absolutely love it. I believe that I've viewed about 90% of the episodes you've posted and looking forward to catching up to date on every one. It's not so much that I am a narrow boat enthusiast (truth be known I didn't know they existed until I stumbled upon your channel) it's more about your videography, pleasant tone and delivery. I'm here in the colonies (Maryland to be exact) and am an avid boater however we have nothing here that compares to your "cut". Thank you very much for your videos and I look forward to additional offerings of "the vlog".
Hello Ed! Thanks for watching. Glad you like the videos. More soon :-)
‘Vandalised by Morons ’ ha ha I love the way you say it how it is :)
Looked like you were cruising on The African Queen for a while. But you made it through without encountering the Germans. You are worth your salt!
AS always another great vlog. Thanks David. I really look forward to your posts always laid back and smooth. Thanks again..
Thank you, glad you like them :-)
I've watched vlogs 001 to 108 over the past 2 weeks and have loved them all, canal life has been a dream of mine for a few years now but sadly will have to wait a bit longer. Just wanted to say thank you for the new knowledge and you've made the past 2 weeks a lot more tranquil.
Glad you enjoyed them, cheers
Once again a pearl of a 'vlog'- SO clear and SO relaxing. And thank you for giving us time to read the bits !
Ah, glad you liked it Frank :-)
Every time you bump into something you make all of us viewer feel like we are not the worlds worst just normal people. Thanks for that
Wouldn't want to walk up that High Street drunk them tilting buildings would surely make ya feel worse!!! Lovely scenery along that journey, thoroughly enjoyed that!
:-)
Thank you David for your marvelous vlog. I especially enjoyed being taken into the town of Droitwich. I realize that your raison d’être is cruising the canals but it is a treat to occasionally get off the boat and see some sights.
Droitwich was a special case as I grew up there :-)
How can you get 10 thumbs down?? You do such a great job narrating your vlogs!!
I agree, i watch 3 a night... and im two years behind he's latest vlog but at least i don't have to wait for next one.. i can just watch next one next one next one, I hate waiting. Lol
What a lovely short canal. A great shame that mindless vandals what to destroy other peoples hard work and efforts. Super film. Thanks very much David
Little did this guy know, back when he was one of maybe only THREE Narrow Boat Vloggers, that his own particular style and experiences with a stick-boat, swans with -tude, cheese sandwiches and a potty with a name reminiscent of an ancient method of listening to music (requiring a yellow #2 pencil) would educate, entertain and soothe so very many of us. I realize you just took a well-earned and deserved sabbatical while WE binge on cups of tea, awesome wry/dry humor and the worlds slowest method of transportation, wishing there was MORE as we
SQUEEK BY THE PLAGUE... Yours are Precious and much
Treasured gifts right now and I know I speak for many when I :::: pinch the sides of my sweats and bring my right foot behind my left, gracefully achieving a deep and steady bow::: curtsy and say *Thank You*
It is the wrong color blue but the sound is in the right ball park and it IS Bigger On The Inside. (Hm u could stowaway in the library) All it needs as a 42 somewhere... And maybe borrow a bowl of petunias from a friend 😎✌💫
Best wishes
Blessings
And a copious amount of cheese
Sarah
The saltworks signs, and the glimpses of the town were a special treat.
History is so fascinating.
Thanks for taking us along.
Glad you liked it
Very interesting part of history.
I really disrespect people who vandalize! Great video, thanks. 🇺🇸
With both 'yelling at swans' and 'fretting about bridges' within moments of the video beginning, I knew that this was going to be another instant classic CTC! =)
I prefer to think of it as offering gentle encouragement rather than yelling... ;-)
Another high quality CtC production, enjoyed the lookabout at Droitwich.
Fair winds.
Cheers
Thank You for these wonderful adventures. We sure enjoy them. From Sacramento California
Cheers Stephen!
I really love all of your interactions with wildlife, like with “the duck mafia”
I'm so happy that you've done a vlog for Droitwich. My son and his wife live here, and I lived here for around 3 years, and it's such a lovely town. Never mind Waitrose being the mark for a town having made it....a visit from Cruising the Cut has now put us on the map properly!
Hahaha, not sure about that!
Well we are. We love your vlogs (enough to not skip the ads....) and think you're a national treasure in the making x
Ahh, thank you. And doubly so for not skipping the ads :-)
It always fascinates me about the history of England along your journey. You would make a good history teacher. Thanks for the vid.
Thank you. You might also like Vlog 80 (ua-cam.com/video/Y6NbFgEY04Y/v-deo.html), the only other specifically history-oriented one I've done. Cheers
Again , you made this part of your journey , very enjoyable for me.... Thanks for ALL your hard work making this happen... Keep up the fine job...
Thank you
7:43 I like that little sigh when talking about vandals: disappointed but not surprised
Another great vlog. Fascinating about the "salary" reference 😃 that's today's lockdown learning complete. Cheers
A superb film and commentary - an outstanding example of why David's vlogs leave all of the others standing (very good though some of them are).....
Thank you!
Omg I agree. I try to watch the others. And they give other insights that David doesnt or just a different look at things. But they arnt always filmed right or sometimes just drag on with well to much of one thing or another.
Really enjoyed your bird quips and humorous take on things. Thanks so much David for the laughs and the fine videography.
:-)
A great way to spend 10 minutes on a Saturday morning in the US. Love your stuff.
Thank you!
I'm no stranger to wonky buildings. Northwich ingeniously built them in timber frames with jacking points so when the inevitable happen they just jacked it up again!
That or just moved it along the street a bit to a not-so-sunken bit...
"Made a note to be extra carefull" have to remember that one :-)
Looks very nice. I think we'll have to go up there at some point in the future 👍
Bond Villain Headquarters - hahahahaha. You certainly know how to nicely turn a phrase. Also, thank you for filming the signage and other sites. I enjoy the history info bits you provide.
A very pleasant and informative offering David. Thank you!
Ta
Thank You very much for sharing some history of this location. From your reply on Facebook I figured I wouldn't get to see much, but i was pleasantly surprised by this lot. I hope there is more to come like this. Thank you again my friend. By the way, I am enjoying your Vlog all the way in the North west corner of Mississippi in the U.S.. Should you ever want to see Elvis Presley's place and take in some of the views of our huge canal drop me a line.
Thank you, glad you liked the video.
Hello from the USA. We are taking our first narrowboat trip in 2021 and we are starting and ending the Avon Ring in Droitwich Spa! We are spening a day in your birthplace (who knew?) before we begin our adventure. We will see if we can find the statue of you they put up in your honor!! Great info. Thank you
"A very scenic little chug it is too." Lovely turn of phrase.
So many of those moore spots. Just look so tranquil. I'd love to just stay there for a few days or so. Read a good fantasy book, drink some tea, maybe something stronger sometimes. Just so magical looking.
Nice tour,David.Thank you.
Stunning views , you really have got a great life . Many thanks for the Vlog .
This is by far my favorite narrowboat vlog. Wonderful!!
Thank you
Very nice video, thanks for the history lesson. The downtown reminds me of the The Crooked House in Wolverhampton and their excellent ale.
Cute & interesting city / town. Well done.
There should be a warning on the cruising playlist, begin watching and there is no way out... They are going to find a mummy dried out in my apartement in a month... I am stuck!
Haha - STOP, have a break!!
@@CruisingTheCut
God job man, love the videography, love the editing, love the dry humor.
Request: go to italy by boat! :-D
I feel actually the same..I live in Kentucky USA very near the Ohio River across from Cincinnati and I can’t tear myself away from David’s videos...every available span of free time I’m watching!!
It's the _Hotel California_ of videos.
Crap, now it's going to be stuck in my head for two days.
@@deltavee2 thanks for the ear worm...
😑
✌
to see buildings that date back to the11 hundreds is amazing stranger is how they fixed buildings from subsidence truly an eye opener cheers mate great video
To be fair I should add that a lot of that church dates from the 1800s, only part of it is really, really old but nonetheless, it is incredible I agree.
Thank you for the vlog, I'm from Droitwich myself and regularly walk the canals. Still good to see it from your angle though. The good news is that, after many years, Droitwich salt is once again being used in a number of food items.
Are there Droitwich-salted crisps yet? There surely ought to be!
CruisingTheCut Not heard of crisps yet but sounds good. There's salted butter, salted caramel ice cream and fudge so far. Officially launched at this weekend's saltfest.
In my book salted sweets are an abomination so it'd just be the butter for me. Maybe I'll set up a crisp factory though.
Another fantastic vlog. I quite liked the overgrown canals, as it seemed to harken back to an earlier, and less hasty time.
Yes, gave it that "authentic" unrestored look maybe!
This is what the internet was supposed to be about. I had no idea something like this existed and always spent time on maps looking at the old disused canals in the States. There has been meager effort to re-open some, but the system CRT is maintaining is enviable. I'm going to be sad when someone picks this up for a reality show and all the flavor and character are washed away.
Glad you enjoyed it; cheers
Brilliant! I can't believe some moron gave this a thumbs down, what on earth for! Well done on another informative video. Looking forward to your next one.
I always get some thumbs down but it's nice to know they're watching ;-)
very much liked that one! and i'm going to have to consider following Scott's advice below! Thanks for sharing that one...another place i've got to visit
I just discovered your channel tonight. It's the best thing I have found on UA-cam. I can experience a wonderful adventure in a country I have adored for 50 years. All from my home in Oregon in the U.S.A. I thank you so much for doing this and look forward to viewing the rest of your vlogs.
Thank you very much! I hope you'll enjoy all the past videos and subscribe for future ones. Cheers
I did enjoy this vlog (as usual) and thought:" What an excellent history teacher you are".
Thank you! It's odd because I have very little interest in history, I just grew up in Droitwich so you get to know all that stuff.
Not in my case, I grew up (sort of) in Amsterdam, but I have to admit that I know very little of it's history.
Hi David, lovely part of the canal system. Thank you ,for showing us around.looks quite peaceful. That lock looked very Fierce! : - )
I was quite surprised by it otherwise I'd have tied the boat up better!
Thank you David for another great VLOG. Sad to see and hear that vandalism is as much a problem there as it is in the states. All of your videos are great fun but this was really special.
Thank you
Very interesting, I liked the historical info on the salt
:-)
Excellent and made even better with a look about town.
Cheered me up no end, thanks :)
Good!
Enjoyed visiting with you the ancient town of Droitwich with its flavourful and fascinating history. Btw, that stretch of the canal immediately before the lock at 8:02 appears challenging for manoeuvring a Narrowboat but probably it's just the camera angle.
This is sooo good. Very much like watching a professionally produced tele show. This has "content" lovely... just lovely.... how lovely.. really. But will you please make it a point to show some of the insides of these little shops and repair stations? I also would like to see huge platters of whole fried cod with chips. extra tarter sauce please, and a big bowl of ice cream. you never show your meals. In the future you can make your episode longer because we cant get enough of this. It would be helpful too if you showed where you are on the map.
I rarely do "tourist" or cooking videos as this is a narrowboat channel and I wish to keep it that way. There are lots of UA-cam channels that show cooking or what England is like. As for maps, I mention lots of place names so that you can look them up on Google maps and have a far better look around than I ever could with a static map in a video. Cheers
I mean when you stop at a pub and eat, just a brief picture/video of your food, and the atmosphere. even the brief laundry room scene was great. its shows what life is like there with the over priced tokens (lol) and the funny coin op devices, those little details make for great entertainment. I love all the details you give, it make sit veyr interesting. and your sense of humor is keen.
Thank you
Dreary Droitwich...............a park, an empty high street, a Norman looking church and a legacy of pickling. Appealingly uneventful. Thank God for football and game apps. All the same, I appreciated the tour-thanks!
Pickling?!!
Yes... pickling??????
Another excellent vlog, David. Thank you for sharing, although I found myself holding my breath as the boat took off
unattended!
I was a bit anxious as I rushed back from the lock!
Nice to see Droitwich Barge canal.
Some of those canal stretches looked more deserted than used! Thanks for the video.
I believe it's not very well-used, although it is part of a short touring ring (Worcester/Droitwich/Hanbury)
I worked with a guy that actually rebuilt one of the swing bridges quite a few years ago and the work was done at the factory where we both worked, I think he later went on to be one of the unpaid directors of the Droitwich Canals Trust.
Not a fan of graffiti but the "half full " guy was pretty good in the philosophical sense of its nature. The vandals of the historical points of interest ought to be strung from a yard arm for a few. Good video, sir.
Love this vlog. I love when you include some history.
:-)
Interesting video Dave and a good one too :-)
Always a pleasure to watch! Thanks again!
Cheers
The last 10 or 20 videos has been great. I prefer your cruising videos I find, although some of your of-season videos are good too, mostly due to your well dry British humor. You are hilarious at sometimes in your observations. In any case, thank you very much!
Thank you. Better brace yourself, I'm running out of cruising footage so those DIY and fireside chat videos will return soon! :-)
That’s ok. I think I will survive. When mentioned in the videos I find myself more and more seeking refuge in the G&T, and that is a great help. Although sometimes when watching 20 videos in a row I find myself blacking out. Should properly use more ice.
:-)
Wonderful as always! Thanks so much David.
Ta
awesome, as always,
Very interesting vlog. Loved the comments about Waitrose. Keep them coming , you really are worth your salt !
:-) Thank you
excellent as always..cheers
Fantastic vlog as always. The information about Droitwich was really interesting. I LOVED the pun - genius
Quite possibly my worst title yet!
That's the first time I've seen you whack the side of your boat. Lovely videos, we're enjoying your travels back here in California.
I enjoyed the information about the town and the history. Please include more stops along your journey when possible. Thank you. I always look forward to the next vlog.
Thank you. It's not something I intend to do more of though as I want to keep the channel canal-focused rather than a general "tour of English villages and history via canal", if that makes sense. Also, history videos demand loads of research and there's often no images to go with the story.
I think the "English tour" helps people who wonder what they might reach from narrowboat, on a vacation, for example. If you'd prefer keeps these people away from the canal, by all means, continue highlighting angry water foul. ;)
Fair point but this is not meant to be a Guide to England, it's just my vlog of my life on the boat. Therefore there will be more water fowl ;-)
Enjoyed the beautiful footage and the historic bits. Another great video...thanks!
:-)
Another fine video, thanks for putting it up. And howdy from Marion .nc usa
Howdy!
I DO ENJOY WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS AND DOING ALL THE LOCKS SINGLE HANDED I MUST BE A HARD TASK KEEP THE GOOD WORK UP
It is hard work but good exercise. Cheers
Have to say, I really did enjoy that vlog, so much nice scenery!
:-)
I thought l knew Droitwich quite well, having lived close to the area a few years ago but I was oblivious to the canal restoration, thanks David. I always think of the Chateau Impney when I think of Droitwich having attended a few functions there over the years
Now there's a building with history!
Thanks for the look around Droitwich it looks like a really quaint place with an interesting history
Vandals have no sense of pride in the past or concern for others. Most are self centered young criminals, "graffiti artist" are no better.
Loving the vlogs, so much history and such lovely countryside; a bit overgrown in this town.
Very interesting.
Brilliant thanks 😁👍👏👏👏
Very much enjoy your blogs. They are my favorites. From Richard in Scottsdale, Arizona
Thank you!
Excellent timing! I'm back in D-Town for saltfest this weekend so chuffed to see this video today! Interesting video as ever, thanks!
How was Saltfest? I hear it rained a lot :-(
CruisingTheCut It was good! There were a couple of showers, bit not enough to stop the Ferret racing!
I vaguely remember Droitwich being labelled on the wireless dial when I was a kid, presumably the BBC had a transmitter there.
Yes, although it’s actually at Wychbold which is a couple of miles away. Home of the BBC Radio 4 Long Wave transmitter.
As always a good vlog. I both learned from it and enjoyed it. I can see why you went to Droitwich a lovely town with good people which is unsurprising since they are the " salt of the earth type" . No groaning allowed.
Haha, I like it!
Another great Vlog. Thank you for showing me some of the town and its history. Loved it!
