He's going to gain more fans than he loses over this. I'd never really listened to any of his stuff before, but checked it out after the controversy, now I'm hooked.
The first comedy DVD i ever bought was Dave's "For What It's Worth" absolute classic. He's the greatest of this generation, and I hope he continues to be fearless.
South Park has been running for over twenty years for a reason. The essence of comedy is digging everyone. Dave still understands it and thank you. A comedy routine that was actually funny. F the endless political jokes...
1. There is a difference between joking about something and making a statement. There is no "joke" in saying people should be angry that a trans woman won an award for women. There is no "joke" in saying "my friend's trans daughter is a dude." Those are just commentary. 2. You set up that comparison as if you think South Park hasn't faced backlash for times they attacked senstive topics too... so clearly you haven't been paying attention. 3. Doing comedy about sensitive topics has always been, and will always be, a gamble. I did stand up for almost 10 years, and worked in the business in other ways for several more, and I promise you comedians are very aware of this. The general rule is punching up (attacking those with more power) is fine, but if you're going to punch down, you need to make sure the humor aspect is funny enough, and the "dig" is slight enough, that the people you're talking about won't feel attacked. Comedians say all the time "If they don't/won't laugh, you shouldn't do it." Some comedians know this and do it anyway, usually because they think offending people will make them seem edgy and boost their popularity OR because they want to pander to groups that dislike the group they're attacking... but once they make that choice, they are knowingly, and willingly, making the gamble and need to pull up their big boy pants and accept the consequences.
Im gonna start making transger memes depicting the sexual identification community comparing their 'struggles' with the civil rights movement all together. We'll start with the first straight kid going to school in New Orleans in the 60s with transgender kids.

Also, that's easy for you to say as you're not the person being affected here.
@@davidmays8974 I never said a person doesn't have a right to their own opinion. Also, the controversy around Chappelle is focused on his trans jokes and it happens every time he puts a special out. Employees at Netflix staged a walk-out because of his trans jokes. You're going to tell me that it's just his jokes in general? Well, then why is there no trending attacks on other famous comedians over their sexist and racist jokes? Because Dave is the only one people are focused on and it is because of his_____... Yep, you guessed it, "trans jokes". You're going to tell me I'm wrong about that?

Anyone coming at Chapelle for these bits are the people that need to be having this discussion. I applaud Chapelle! He is a National Treasure! Having a sense of humor is so important for our shared discourse.
I’m trans and bi, I think his jokes about peeps like me are funny. He has a dark sense of humour and I don’t believe he has ill intentions honestly, he makes jokes about everyone.
After watching his performance on transgender people, I don't see why everyone is upset. This is comedy, no person, group, topic, etc, is safe and that's good. Dave rips on everyone. If you can't laugh at yourself, you have issues that are beyond anything Chappelle does
The weird part about all of this is that, in truth, no person or group is ever considered equal until they can laugh at themselves. It's almost the unwritten test of true equality. We're not there yet.
He is a comedian. His job is literally joking about stuff but as soon as those jokes are about you, you get offended. Trans people want to be treated like everyone else so they should be able to take jokes like everyone else
That's the thing, they don't want to be treated like everyone else otherwise they'd remove the trans prefix. They want the assumed 'privilege' that comes with the trans prefix. Can't win 🥴😂
I'm convinced the people that got upset about this haven't even watched any of his stuff. They just saw the word 'transgender' and went into outrage mode.
And I'm convinced none of you have actually been listening to those who are upset at Dave Chappelle. Because you don't have the grain of a hint as to why people have a problem with his special.
People also have the right to criticize Dave. Nowadays it seems like multimillionaire comedians cry about “being canceled” whenever they receive even the slightest pushback. Then they go whine in front of sold-out auditoria about how they are being censored so much... well, it’s a business strategy like any other, I suppose
It isn't anymore. There are some people out there on tiktok that had the power to change branding names, like "Uncle Benz". They use the situation to make money and blame those who do jokes that might offend someone, but use the topic racism as their main click genetator.
@@FIyingDumpling that’s your opinion, but yes, we have the right to say whatever we want, “be absolute assholes”. People can say whatever they want back. That’s freedom

One of my coworkers is lesbian, manager is bi, and both have expressed frustration with the community lately. A lot of those that are the most outraged are bullies. The vast majority of the community isn't that way and are socially submissive. They just want to live their lives and have a laugh, and like many don't mind laughing at something that pokes fun at their community's socialites.
When he helped host the Def Jam 25 years special and went off script for around 10 mins making everyone laugh at random jokes when stuffing up the prompter was classic.
In my opinion he is by far the best. Comedy has always beens about the social issues of the time and censoring has never and will never lead to anything good. It isnt just a slippery slope, it is a cliff with jagged rocks at the bottom.
For myself, I notice that Chappelle - and also Chris Rock - sometimes manage to re-frame some common social more that makes you think about something from a perspective that maybe you hadn't considered before - and also see the humor in it. Both of them are absolute masters of their craft.

The very concept of "Punching Up/Down" practically goes against what comedy is all about, there are no limits with comedy and to put limits in-place would stifle the comedic process. I'm glad Dave can still manage to he his old funny self on-stage without bowing down to the outrage mob.
No it’s not. You can be funny and not work blue. It’s a different type of “comedy” when a comic chooses to push buttons and be an asshole disparaging others. Why would anyone try to get a joke out of that? Many laugh and love lowbrow shit. that pushes. It’s the lowest common denominator trying to get laughs like that. Lol, the funny thing is, is that, that isn't even *_remotely true._* You see, David Chapelle blamed the entire lgbtq community for her death when he didn't even have any proof, he doesn't even know Daphne all that well, doesn't even have a picture of him beside her. Friends, colleague's, family, and co-workers have all confirmed that the cause of Daphne's death wasn't due to a few twitter comments, she had a lot more going on in her life.
At the time when Daphne was alive and was defending David Chapelle all the "bullying," she had received was actually quite supportive of Daphne. There were no comments, if any at all toxic towards Daphne, even further assuming that she saw them at all. And then again that's literally a minority of a few people, but nooo David Chapelle had to blame an entire community that had nothing to do with her death, and you didn't even bother to fact check it. Fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
And about the trust fund thing, the lgbtq community isn't what you think, we aren't a group of organized people ready to raise trust funds on a whim. Many of us are just people who identify as gay, trans, whatever else and don't really indulge ourselves into the community, but regardless we are apart of it because of our identities. The lgbtq community is a bunch of gay fandoms, there are some organizations that help lgbtq people who've had a rough life back on their feet, but not helping Daphne was your assumption that the lgbtq community was aware of Daphne's situation or her death in the first place.
Heck, I didn't know who Daphne OR David Chapelle was until I had gotten a notification about a big time comedian being transphobic in my UA-cam recommendations, even if I did and then try to raise funds for her daughter (who of which I didn't know existed either) I am a person with very little power, no one would've probably even noticed me to donate.

Not pushing the boundary. Maintaining the line for comedy that should not be bent.
Kudos to you for using your brain to come to your own conclusions.
People act as if trans people were treated especially and making fun of them is "pushing boundaries", it truly isn't. In real life trans people are already harrassed, made fun and even killed, in extreme cases, for being who the are, making jokes about them is not outside the status quo at all. Sad thing is, Dave Chappelle has already removed jokes from his repertoire in the past once he realized people were laughing AT him and black people and not WITH them, so he already knew that jokes can validate prejudice, but has chosen to forget his lesson.
