Montreal Salmon??? Rare catch!

- After a full year of scouting I finally got into a Montreal run salmon! These salmon are part of the St Lawrence River ecosystem and are very rare! In this video I hook a salmon and chase it downstream to net it because I was about to get spooled! Normally i would've played the fish but in this case he took me way to far so i passed my buddy the rod and netted him!

It isn’t the West Island but there are salmon all throughout lac St. Louis, just nearly impossible to target
@@FishingOD_OFFICIAL they are in the seaway, very deep. Not a big fan of Pewie Louis. Your spot reminds me of a spot I know where water levels change and you have to be careful. I think those salmon just got "lost."

So these are lake run? Like drop downs from lake Ontario that go up st Lawrence tribs? Never would have thought that was a thing. That rivers sucking in salmon from both ends😂
Yup these are lake run! Th only explanation would be that they came from Lake O honestly! They’re a long ways from home thats for sure.
How would they get past the dams and locks tho?
No idea but its the only explanation

that was EPIC I flew to Vancouver just to catch fish like that ,,and learned that Salmon stop eating when they hit fresh water ,,,they call it FLOSSING in BC getting your line to drift into the salmons mouth then pulling hard and setting the hook.. that's what you did let your line drift down stream and set the hook when you felt the fish ……..well done

This is not true at all i live in bc, the fisherey you are talking about is bottom bouncing for sockeye on the fraser.

Nice, there's another spot in Montreal that has a few salmon showing up each year in montreal nord but unfortunately theres a certain race of humans that don't believe in releasing them back and any species tbh so there's fewer and fewer each year

Absolutely seen it with my own eyes at RDP park around 30 years ago , Region 8 you need Salmon Angling license, and only fly Rod and fly and all catch and release if wardens ( Faune de Quebec) catches those folks who keep them they will be in trouble

That's not how you fish for salmon, with a lead fly, and you don't run after it with the net! We let him get tired. I have been fly fishing for Atlantic salmon for over 30 years in the Gaspé so ... What a shame!



Great input! This is a non native species to Montreal #1 and #2 this river is filled with poachers who snag them with treble hooks, fishing them with a weighted fly is the least shameful thing happening on that river. Might I add that in the description I clearly state that I was merely a few feet away from being spooled. Cheers 🥂
