Bravo man. Jan 2022 select the AE archive not the SE and do exactly as he says. He was skilled enough to even leave sections in the video if you need to skip forward to installation. Worked like a charm. Cheers
I've been running it since it came out but I still watched this whole video as it reminded me of the magical time when I got my gaming rig and went through all those first 'How to mod Skyrim' videos of Gophers. That first moment when you upgrade your map or change your first water texture! Absolutely amazing time!
I was so nervous going into modding and now I'm manually cleaning DLC plugins using xEdit and Installing cool UI mods that utilize SKSE and it's all cause of you king! Thanks so much for all of your hard work and updated content. it is so rare to find a content creator that keeps these things up-to-date!
I didn't need to watch this. I already use SKSE64. I didn't learn anything from this. But, its 17 minutes of Gopher speaking to me. I WATCHED IT HAPPILY!!!
Just bought a computer and always wanted to try Skyrim. I've always heard of the modding potential and I was completely lost. Thank you SO much for this.
Old comment, but I just got my first gaming computer, so I'm at least willing to tackle mods that use SKSE. Before, I stayed ultrabasic, and couldn't even use the Special Edition--it's system requirements are a leap from the original Skyrim.
Are you like me, in the fact that Gopher could release a video of him reading the dictionary, and you would listen to it just for his voice? It's odd, but there are a few you-tubers I listen to just for the sound of their voice.
Gopher, this comment comes 3 years after the video was made, but I just want to let you know I really appreciate all your helpful, detailed step-by-step explanations. Thanks to you I can get back into my favorite game as it should be!
I'm always impressed about the Tutorials of Gopher. Best tutorials ever, and thanks to him, I'm very comfortable in installing mods since years now. Simple and very effective. So, thank you Gopher for all the years of Tutorials. :-)
Hey, just wanted to say thank you for all the work over the years man. Just got a beastly PC setup and..even though I told myself I wouldn't mod Skyrim right away, I couldn't resist! Needed a refresher and I know I can always count on you to have my back when I need some Skyrim modding tutorials. Much love, and stay safe.
I've spent many years watching Skyrim modding videos of yours and many others (MXR, Heavy Burns, etc) and I'm finally sitting here- on my gaming computer I never thought I could have due to being in poverty. I'm going through all my favorite games and I've finally got to Skyrim- Gopher I have to reiterate how many times you've helped people in a way you'll never understand. We love you man, and I hope all of your life is amazing. You did so much for us, thank you.
Oh this is great news for Skyrim modding community ! I remember 1-2 years ago while everyone was dreaming of a 64bits version, allowing for craziness to actually happens. I can't believe I'm probably about to jump back, again!, in another playthrough of that game. Supa great !
This probably won't get read at this point but I want to thank you so much. Just recently bought my first gaming laptop and I had no clue how to mod. After spending over 2 hours just to get the NexusMM up and running, I was then massively disappointed after realising I needed a script extender to get SkyUI to work, something that I felt was a necessity. After reading forums and complicated tutorials that did nothing for me, I found this video and it was perfect. You explained everything perfectly step by step and even though I hit one or two snags, it was because I never followed your instruction accurately enough. Now after 3 plus hours of setup I finally logged on to see it working and I actually let out a scream of joy, its all running beautifully. Thank you so much, you really helped a noob like me get his first taste of modding and i'm so grateful! Liked and Subscribed :)
I'm usually the kind of person to break out in hives at the site of programming/file work, but these videos are so easy to follow that I can do these things with confidence. I know there are a lot of people already saying it, but thank you so much for these tutorials.
About 5 years ago I discovered Gopher because I had just installed FNIS and all my NPCs were stuck in the T-pose. He has been my go to expert ever since.
I equate your voice with modding Skyrim and Fallout. Every year for the past few years I've relied on you to walk me through this. I just got Skyrim SE so I'm ready.
I spent the last few days failing to make this work and this video explained everything so clearly for a computer fool like me, I know it's been 3 years but thanks for this video it really helped me out
Has Gopher ever voiced a character added by a mod? I require a fully quested and voiced follower in Tales from the Commonwealth voiced by Gopher. I need that yesterday.
Dude, thank you so much for this. Ive successfully downloaded this mod with vortex thanks to you. I have no previous knowledge of modding games and you have made it accessible to me. I have come from console with no PC knowledge what so ever. Please keep up the good work and hopefully more vids on modding. So much respect to you!!!
Thank you for yet another great video Gopher! Your videos helped me get into modding Skyrim and games in general. I think I started watching your videos in 2013 :)
I was there on the midnight release for skyrim. I've been playing ever since 11/11/11 and modding ever since about 2013. There are thousands of mods that I've wanted to download before but couldnt because I never knew how to download SKSE. thank you so much for this video. Everyone says things like "I wish I could get amnesia so I could play skyrim all over again with no recollection like it was the first time" and now I kinda can with all these new mods I can download. You're an angel I love you so much!!!
amazing! as a total noob in installing any form of mods, I was at a loss as to why certain sounds weren't playing for my newly installed Skyrim SE. After following your video, my fight sounds are now working! Now... I can add even more mods. A new world of possibilities after playing Skyrim in the past for years. Thank you!!!

Gopher, you make the hands down most helpful videos I've ever seen relating to anything, and i cant express my gratitude that your channel exists. You're now my favorite youtube channel and you helped me with many things from installing and using NMM and this, installing and using Skyrim Script Extender. Im not sure i could even mod skyrim se without your channel. You got a new subscriber today
Slight problem... The .rar I made from archiving the data folder, the last step, it wont be loaded into Nexus. I d ragged it in multiple times and waited a while but it wont work.
Mate, I want to sincerely thank you! I have been a console player for 20+ yrs and have also always used Apple all that time too. I've wanted to buy a PC and get into modding but have been far too intimidated by the thought of it! Last year a good friend built me a medium to high end PC and I'm now slowly wading the waters of modding! You are , by far, the clearest and informative at explaining these processes! Thank you again! Liked and Subbed!!
Thank you so much! You are an angel! I just started trying to mod my game (at 50) and this is exactly the level of help I needed. I think the modding community tends to take for granted that everyone has at least some skill/experience and they seem to be a little intolerant of those that are completely clueless. I tried following instructions (written) for how to change form 43 mods to form 44 and it just became too confusing. I wasted 3 hours for nothing. I was able to follow your excellent instructions easily. BLESS YOU!
It's June 2020 and after several years, I decided to re-install Skyrim SE from steam. This video was SUPER helpful. It's honestly mind blowing how many mods are available. It's like a completely different game than I had originally remembered. Thank you very much for this helpful detailed walk through
This. I remember modding this game 10 years ago. It was complex, but managable. Now I've tried reading biblical amounts of walls of text out there, and I'm exhausted going through it all, only to meet messages like this. I'll uninstall this game, it's too much work to read a bible to just enjoy a game.
You are a God and a Gentleman Gopher. I don't care how many times I've installed any Script Extender, whether for Fallout or Skyrim; it's just an opportunity to watch this video and be awed by how well you explain how to install it. Kudos!

I know this video is really old, but you just saved my Skyrim experience. Recently got my first pc and all of this modding stuff is so new to me. I had some mods for Skyrim on Xbox, but obviously, the experience is different and limited. For the last several days, I could not get skse64 to work no matter what. It would always crash when I hit new game. I followed your steps exactly and it works! I can't thank you enough. Subscribing!
4:36 in the morn, (sleep schedule is off) and I have been trying to get to some pretty useful mods (specifically the Skyrim SE ui mod) I gotta say, this has been incredibly helpful and I thank you for explaining in a way that can be easily followed. Well done!
@@daniellemmons-f8u me too! I found out i had to delete all of my mods installed on vortex, then it works fine and launces... anyone know how resolve this?
I'm having the same issue! If someone knows a fix to this please let me know. I just completely redid my modding through Nexus rather than the in-game options... I hope this gets fixed so that it wasn't for nothing!
im having a similar problem, i click on the new luancher we created and when i go to open it, it says, could not find ''SkyrimSE.exe,'' and then i thought well maybe it means the extensions need to be shown and i made sure i have hidden files enabled, they are checked and for some reason i cannot launch skyrim from the launcher he had us create
Thank you, Gopher. I would never have attempted to mod my games without your tutorials. If there isn't a Gopher video telling me it is safe and how to do it, I don't. I cannot thank you enough.
Gosh, this is the only guide of several hundred others that I could properly comprehend and download SKSE effectively, and expediently. Thank you so much for the help with this. :)
Every time I see a modded Skyrim game I think to myself 'God that looks epic, I want some of that epicness' I then spend hours modding my Skyrim and get it to look just as epic. Then I remember, I'm playing skyrim and I know all the quest dialogue off by heart, I'm doing the same quest for the 20,000 time so i quit because it's boring :( I torture myself (And my SSD) like this probably every 4-6 months. I get the same thing with seeing a FuddgeMuppet video on a new character build. So I go and make the character then realize it's Skyrim I'm doing the same shit but look different. I try to RP with the character but after a couple of hours I have to just tell Jarl Balgruuf no, I don't care anymore, I don't want to be your thane for the millionth time ok!
Figure out how to achieve good immersion with your game. That's the key and I believe it can be done no matter how many times you have played the game.
Thank you so much! I used to play heavily modded Skyrim in college on my girlfriend's PC, and we watched TONS of your videos! When I clicked on the video link from the SKSE page and realized it was you doing the walkthrough, it was like the best blast from the past ever. Also reassured me this was legit.
I was gonna start studying for my uni exams that I have next week but instead reinstalled Skyrim and started playing again. I should regret my life choices but I don't :D
Probably easier to just use 7zip (download if u don't have it) and compress the Data folder with that one. It might work just by changing the end of the file name to .zip (instead of .rar) but I would use 7zip just to be sure it's intact.
Thank you. I can't tell you how much your videos mean to someone who struggles with understanding the finer details of modding. You have been the source for me and have brought new life to these older games.
Your vids really helped this one who is not a computer programmer. So many other videos about this have instructions that assume a certain (IMHO) higher level of computer in's and out's knowledge. Your DETAILED instructions are much appreciated.
I don't think you are aware of just how awesome and helpful this video is. I have had so much frustration trying to figure out how to download this properly and watching this it still took a while to find the right file are I needed but I found it and figured it all out thanks to you. Thank you so much!
Same here bro but for some reason we had a update like 5 or 6 days ago and slowly it was ruining my game after that update slower games lag spikes hell even amazing race tweaks only found in the steam workshop or the in game mod section for skyrim got messed up and it got to the point where npcs was not able to be killed so I deleted everything and did a fresh unmodded skyrim and I downloaded the skse version 2.0.17 and skyui and I am getting a error code saying that this version is too old or some shit I don't know.
@@derrickjackson9096 Try running your shortcut as Administrator. I found that worked after a while troubleshooting. SkyUI kept saying it it couldn't load due to no SKSE Installed. Running the same command as Lulu, script was also not found. But after running as Admin seems fine, but that command still doesnt work :S
@@chaz3334 Thank you for the help man I figured it out I had to delete skyrim and re download all my mods because for some reason the skse was only launching the skyrim from steam and it made my game unstable I did run as admin but even that didn't work. But it is fine now I got it working.
I seriously cannot thank you enough, I have been struggling hopelessly until someone recommended your video. I can finally enjoy my game again thanks to you. Thank you so much
For YEARS my game would always crash because I was using mods that required SKSE and I never understood how to use or apply it. THANK YOU!!!! I can finally play Skyrim modded!!!
Sadly I follow everything and go to open the game theory my new shortcut and get a pretty big black box that says "couldn't find skyrimse.exe." Anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this?
Yooo, This made installing SKSE64 Sooo easy. When I used the original SKSE for the original Skyrim. I used SKSE through the steam download. I would have had no clue how to manually download this. Thank you SO much mate. You the realist MVP.
Every now and then i decide to restart Skyrim and of course everything is outdated and i come back to your video. You provide a so detailed and excellent guidance, i want to thank you very much. Without this video i doubt i would've ever gotten my hands on the many many mods i use now.
The game isn't opening for me via the SKSE loader either, I tried running as admin and everything. It just has the black window for a second and then nothing.
Even though I've been using SKSE64 for a while, I watched the video because I so enjoyed the others I just watched and wanted to find out if you mentioned anything I didn't know already...and sure enough, you did. It never occurred to me to package the Data files and use my mod manager to install them. That's brilliant. Thanks for the tip (and explanation as to why).
I have been trying for 2 whole hours to figure out this before finding that video. It might not look like much but thanks to you I can go sleep soundly because I made it !!! Thank you for making it so that even computer inepts who just love skyrim can play with mods !
I swear i did everything right wit this video, i have all the files, except data in the directory then the data downloaded on NMM but THEN i created the shortcut and renamed it, icon and everything but it just wont stop saying, can't find Tes5 .exe or some shit, This is a paste of the version i downloaded, {Current SE build 2.0.17 (runtime 1.5.97): 7z archive} Only newest available option, i've gonna through many sources or links to see if there are different silverlock pages but NOPE. This is the right site Hopefully the right version And i have downloaded mods and own the steam edition so i know my shit is legit but like i said, ("Couldn't find TESV .exe"). long story short, can someone please help??
Just came here to say thank you so much for this video, I've had such a hard time trying to install this properly and get it working without stuffing up my saves. You've helped me do just install it flawlessly. Thank you!
I want to say thank you for your excellent explanation! You really helped me to figure out an issue that has been looming over my head for a while now. Keep up the good work, you're very well liked, and for good reason.
video shortened into 3 seconds Step 1 Download the SKSE file you need Step 2 Open the Archive Step 3 navigate to your "Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common" folder Step 4 Drag and drop the contents of the SKSE file into your skyrim folder and hit replace all... Step 5 Don't waste 10 minutes of your life waiting for the guy in this video to get to the fucking point...
I had been trying to get Sky UI and to get SKSE working and this video was so helpful you have no idea. I generally have trouble with doing things with files and locating things but you just laid it out so plainly super easy. Thank you so much :)
Gopher I cannot express how much your channel has helped me, honestly I wouldn't have learned as much as I did without your help and knowledge! Thank you so much
Year and a half late, but this is what I was looking for. I am so used to simply unpacking the file and having it work, but little did I know I needed to do the next steps around 6:44 and all that. Thank you so much for this guide.
Oh my god... You best be believing I had SOOOO many problems trying to reinstall this!...I've never played my SE version and I was like "why not! it shouldn't be much different!"....Last words of a hopeful girl but your tutorial out of the many I tried actually worked so THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Great video has always Gopher, after putting like 1,000 hours into game finally getting around to modding. Was your Skyrim series with Indigo and Explorers guild that finally persuaded me into looking at mods.
Wise and learned teacher! Thank you for sharing your deep knowledge and understanding. Seriously though, you are concise and chill while explaining this complex material. I followed all steps had no issues and learned a lot. Well done sir!
Wow this video is amazing and I appreciate its existence. I wish people who made guide videos to install anything went through each and every literal step.
Thank you so much for this video! It really helped me install skse64. before I kept getting an error that the installer did not detect the .exe file despite literally triple checking the file destination. I have now got it installed and working like a charm with no errors or messages of any kind. Thanks again!
I hope that you are aware of how much you actually did for the modding community Gopher. You helped so many people (including me) to get into modding.

Update: I can't get Skyrim to load past the launcher at all anymore, even when going through Steam... Please help me fix this!
Same here
im having a similar problem, i click on the new luancher we created and when i go to open it, it says, could not find ''SkyrimSE.exe,'' and then i thought well maybe it means the extensions need to be shown and i made sure i have hidden files enabled, they are checked and for some reason i cannot launch skyrim from the launcher he had us create
Thank you, Gopher. I would never have attempted to mod my games without your tutorials. If there isn't a Gopher video telling me it is safe and how to do it, I don't. I cannot thank you enough.
for some reason, the skse64 mod won't go into the nexus mod manager tool, like it says this can't be added. halp if you can
Found a work-around. Archive using 7zip, not WinRaR and add it via the PLUS sign from file.
what do you mean by via the plus sign from file?
Gosh, this is the only guide of several hundred others that I could properly comprehend and download SKSE effectively, and expediently. Thank you so much for the help with this. :)
Every time I see a modded Skyrim game I think to myself 'God that looks epic, I want some of that epicness' I then spend hours modding my Skyrim and get it to look just as epic.
Then I remember, I'm playing skyrim and I know all the quest dialogue off by heart, I'm doing the same quest for the 20,000 time so i quit because it's boring :(
I torture myself (And my SSD) like this probably every 4-6 months.
I get the same thing with seeing a FuddgeMuppet video on a new character build. So I go and make the character then realize it's Skyrim I'm doing the same shit but look different. I try to RP with the character but after a couple of hours I have to just tell Jarl Balgruuf no, I don't care anymore, I don't want to be your thane for the millionth time ok!
mayby some quest mods or total overhauls like enderal or forgotten city would be up your alley.
Never start the MQ and just play Questmods.
SKSE64 is not update yet
I was gonna start studying for my uni exams that I have next week but instead reinstalled Skyrim and started playing again. I should regret my life choices but I don't :D
Juggernaut. Give it a couple of months and you might.
Bro you should really start studying, your exams happen once, Skyrim on the other hand can happen any other time
To quote jack form Gophers other series : "I've got this"
Famous last words I know but I really appreciate the advice, I'll take care of it ^_^
Watched this in 2021 and I now declare that Gopher is the Bob Ross of the modding community. Love Gopher's video!
I can't get the data folder to the mod manager, showing up as "can't be added" and "incomplete"
thanks! i got worried lol
Wow thanks! Had same problem
Dumb question from a newby at modding. How do you change the compression?
Probably easier to just use 7zip (download if u don't have it) and compress the Data folder with that one. It might work just by changing the end of the file name to .zip (instead of .rar) but I would use 7zip just to be sure it's intact.
You are the shit. Thanks so much bruv
Thank you. I can't tell you how much your videos mean to someone who struggles with understanding the finer details of modding. You have been the source for me and have brought new life to these older games.
How do you do this with the vortex manager?
Your vids really helped this one who is not a computer programmer. So many other videos about this have instructions that assume a certain (IMHO) higher level of computer in's and out's knowledge. Your DETAILED instructions are much appreciated.
I followed all of the steps and I am still getting a message in my game that my SKSE files are not downloaded
I don't think you are aware of just how awesome and helpful this video is. I have had so much frustration trying to figure out how to download this properly and watching this it still took a while to find the right file are I needed but I found it and figured it all out thanks to you. Thank you so much!
I did everything as you said, but when I enter the game and tipe getskeversion it says that the script is not found? Help pls
Thank you so much
0:28 or people that haven't played with or messed with a mod or skyrim in a long time and forgot how everything works :)
Totally
For YEARS my game would always crash because I was using mods that required SKSE and I never understood how to use or apply it. THANK YOU!!!! I can finally play Skyrim modded!!!
Sadly I follow everything and go to open the game theory my new shortcut and get a pretty big black box that says "couldn't find skyrimse.exe."
Anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this?
did you ever figure out how to fix it? im having the same problem
Yooo, This made installing SKSE64 Sooo easy. When I used the original SKSE for the original Skyrim. I used SKSE through the steam download. I would have had no clue how to manually download this. Thank you SO much mate. You the realist MVP.
I'm getting a message that the file cant be added (to NMM). Any advice?
thank you. haven't played skyrim for years but you are the first channel to find for tutorial
When I try to run SKSE64 loader it says cannot find skyrim
don't put it in the mod folder, keep in in the main folder for skyrim
@@zennith3256 i put the data folder directly over cause idc bout safty, (just wanna play) but i got the same message
ideas?
@@chrisweaver415 try clean launching Skyrim, then going back to the skse launcher in the files.
I'm having the same problem and I definitely put everything exactly where he said, I triple checked
Thank you for simplifying and explaining it and not assuming most people know how to do it or understand the instructions on the page.
it says could no find skyrimSE.exe
2 years later still super helpful appreciate the help!
I'm guessing new series soon?
MD4564 I hope so
I love Gophers Skyrim series. I really really want him to start a new one soon.
You are an outstanding pillar of the Skyrim Modding community.
Thank You, Gopher.
Says "Can't be added"
Every now and then i decide to restart Skyrim and of course everything is outdated and i come back to your video. You provide a so detailed and excellent guidance, i want to thank you very much. Without this video i doubt i would've ever gotten my hands on the many many mods i use now.
When I try to launch the skse loader, a black square pops up and then disappears after a second. Does anyone have a solution?
did u figure it out? im having same problem
The game isn't opening for me via the SKSE loader either, I tried running as admin and everything. It just has the black window for a second and then nothing.
@@jessebananasaurus1526 this happens to me as well but then a black screen just shows up and doesnt go away
That happens to me but after a second it opens the game
This guide was an ABSOLUTE LIVERSAVER! Thank you so much!!!!
that crazy moment when you can't install NMM
Even though I've been using SKSE64 for a while, I watched the video because I so enjoyed the others I just watched and wanted to find out if you mentioned anything I didn't know already...and sure enough, you did. It never occurred to me to package the Data files and use my mod manager to install them. That's brilliant. Thanks for the tip (and explanation as to why).
It says I need to update an anniversary edition... I HATE YOU BETHESDA
This is the right site Hopefully the right version And i have downloaded mods and own the steam edition so i know my shit is legit but like i said, ("Couldn't find TESV .exe"). long story short, can someone please help??
i dont think you can have skse as a shortcut, i always open it through vortex or the game folder. This probably wont help you, but for anyone else
same problem guh
I knew I should have come here first to get my modding started on SE. You're a godsend Gopher!
I truly hate SKSE
Just came here to say thank you so much for this video, I've had such a hard time trying to install this properly and get it working without stuffing up my saves. You've helped me do just install it flawlessly. Thank you!
Omae wa mou shindeiru.
Zayeed Helaly NANI!!!
Interesting profile picture you got there, Aladdin SDK :D
Zayeed Helaly ohh glad you like it. idk what I love about it myself hhhh
Zayeed Helaly NANI THE FUCK?!
I want to say thank you for your excellent explanation! You really helped me to figure out an issue that has been looming over my head for a while now.
Keep up the good work, you're very well liked, and for good reason.
video shortened into 3 seconds
Step 1 Download the SKSE file you need
Step 2 Open the Archive
Step 3 navigate to your "Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common" folder
Step 4 Drag and drop the contents of the SKSE file into your skyrim folder and hit replace all...
Much appreciated! Used this for Skyrim VR and now it's fully modded and I'm very happy with the result!
Gopher I cannot express how much your channel has helped me, honestly I wouldn't have learned as much as I did without your help and knowledge! Thank you so much
That explanation was fantastic (about using a mod manager for anything going in Data) Always impressed with your videos Gopher!
When first started modding, Gopher was the one to help, so easy to follow. Best.
Commenting from early 2021, you are a legend mate. First game I am ever modding and I was a bit lost before I found this. Thank you so much. :)
I know everyone has already said this, but I love you and your magnificent skill and ability in explaining this process. Thank you so much
Wise and learned teacher!
