Small correction / suggestion: Use MO2 in a portable instance. This was how MO originally worked and here is why it is better: When choosing „global“ your data gets stored in a AppData folder that can be accessed with the good old %appdata% however when choosing portable instance all the files for that instance will be stored in the MO2 Folder. This makes installing multiple MO2 instances way easier and also makes relevant data easier to access.
@@brianl4137 on MO2, go to "files" in the top left hand corner, click the first option in the drop down menu "Manage Instances", this will result in a pop-up window. From here, select "Create New Instance". This will result in a new pop-up window, that being the one you saw when originally installing MO2. Select "Create a portable instance" and then follow the rest of the set up as shown in the video from the point where he selected to create a global instance. Do note: you will have to re-install any mods you added, including tools added in the same process as mods, such as Nemisis (the first tool he showed in the video). To delete the pervious (and now unused) files, mods, and so fourth from your computer (those currently taking storage up in your AppData folder), you will need to delete the original instance (the global instance made by following the video exactly). To do this, again, open MO2, go to "files" in the top left hand corner, click the first option in the drop down menu "Manage Instances". In the pop-up you will now see "Portable" followed by "Cache", along with the original "Skyrim Special Edition" (or whatever version you have, L.E., S.E., A.E., etc). Simply select the Skyrim one (in my case "Skyrim Special Edition"), and on the right side select "🛑Delete instance", then delete to bin or completely delete, and voila! Note: A portable instance is only benefitial if you are only modding one game, or plan to/need to move your mods all from one computer to another. To quote the MO2 Wiki, The disadvantages of using a portable instance are that "managing multiple games requires multiple installations of Mod Organizer. This makes it more time consuming to update Mod Organizer and more difficult to switch between instances.' and 'that the portable instance files are mixed with the Mod Organizer installation files, which can lead user errors when manually messing with either. Keeping them separate and distinct would be safer.' Read the wiki page on instances here: github.com/ModOrganizer2/modorganizer/wiki/Instances I hope this helped you or anyone else reading. Have fun modding! Edit: Forgot to add, while you will have to reinstall mods and tools you had on the previous instance. Files you added directly to the skyrim game folder (something like this: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition), such as SKSE and ENB (the two installed in the set-up part of the video) will not have to be reinstalled as they are seperate from MO2, and you shouldn't have to remake a new executable for them either (the things in drop down bit near the run game button).
I am not mod savvy and just downloaded Skyrim AE on myPC. I come from playing Skyrim on PS but with all the mod limitations I decided to try PC version (with a controller of course. Lol) Anyway I am not sure what you mean here so can you tell me what I need to do as I have not started the process in the vid yet? I would greatly appreciate it!
It's crazy how much better modding AE has gotten over the past 2 years. I remember around 2020 we could not even get access to HDT physics let alone anything else inlcuding Nemesis. Love your work.
Really good timing, I just got back into wanting to mod Skyrim after years and years of not playing. I'm actually just now swapping over to MO2 since the last time I modded Skyrim was when NMM was still the platform to use lol
Something you should definitely add to this video is that you can mix and match texture mods and even some meshes by hiding specific textures and each mod by double-clicking on a texture mod and selecting the conflicts tab then right click on the texture you want to hide after viewing it and select hide. This will cause whatever texture was loaded underneath it to move to the top. This feature is super easy to use and is really good for creating the perfect overhaul for cities as you can use the landscape textures from one mod but then the building textures from another
W video. got this game awhile ago and tried modding it for like a whole two days and had so many issues, this tutorial made it all so easy and simple thanks man i appreciate you heaps
Great guide! I just wanted to add that not all mods will show their requirements in the download pop-up, it depends on whether the author has enabled the feature for that file. So it's best to always check the requirements on the description page. Another thing worth mentioning is that since LOOT was added as a standalone program to MO2, there is no need to use the integrated sort system in MO2. It uses an outdated version of LOOT, so best to ignore the sort button and always launch LOOT from the executable list. Finally, it's worth considering installing Skyrim outside Windows protected folders (Program Files). Some people say that the game being there can be a source of problems, though I don't know if that's true. Either way there is no harm in installing it somewhere else.

For those asking about videos for Ending. There is nothing deeper nor darker then the Rabbit hole that is modding. Just some unofficial patches and bug fixes that's all you need...Then you trip and fall further then Alice could ever dream of. Then 1k+ mods later you might actually have an hour of play invested into all the weeks of setting up the mods. What's next you ask?? Well the answer is the next game on your list of course. For me it started with Fallout 4 as I had it before Skyrim. Then I finally got to move to PC and that is when the real addiction took hold. I now have multiple instances of the same game just because sometimes I can't choose and the mods don't agree with one another. Currently I have Tale of Two Wastelands and some mods for it ( YES!! lets mod our mods woot!!), Fallout 4 (lightly modded at only around 300 or so mods/patches), Skyrim, which is currently running sweet with close to 600 mods/patches. I even started modding SIMS 4 (damn you CurseForge). Then, then I found out you could also mod online games. So FO76 and ESO have now gotten a few tweaks. And least we forget, even more fun. When the game or the main mods you use get an upgrade and everything breaks *sigh*. Or like as of late there are phenomenal DLC sized mods bursting out on to the scene that you just have to play and have to rework your entire order to play. I have been modding for less then a year. I spend a hellacious amount of time bouncing between mod pages, bug posts and UA-cam to make sure I have the complete picture. My roommates have threatened to pull an intervention, as I spend more time doing that then I do playing the game, or watching anything else. They actually cheered the other night when I finally sat down to watch the newest Dungeons and Dragons movie (Horrid, horrid Dragon in that btw). All in all I would say there is no chance to escape, no ending, EVER! We are forever stuck in this loop. Our only choice is to ban together and help each other support the needs of our addictions. Side Note: There are already mods for Starfield. SMH. There is no End in sight. May your game not crash and your mods not break.
Thanks for this❤ I've been a xbox gamer, for a long time, but after BGS brought mods to consoles, I've wanted to try skyrim moddin with PC. This will help immensely 🙏👍

Few years ago I got a pc and was finally able to do some gaming but skyrim was still out of the question. Last year I finally got a good pc. And ive finally been able to sit down and get all this set up thanks to this one video. I can finally play all the mods of my dreams.
My biggest gripe is finding out which mods will work with 1.6.640, especially if they haven't been updated in ages. Some mods will, some mods won't, and there doesn't seem to be any forum or discussion addressing this on the nexus, anywhere.
Vortex is great, but imo MO2 is better for Skyrim. Managing your load order is a lot easier, it doesn't directly mess with your data folder, and the mo2 userbase is far bigger so it's much easier to find help with potential problems. It's ultimately just personal preference though, so use whatever you're comfortable with.
First of all, excellent video. I was able to follow it clearly and had no issues setting it up. I also generally tend to find that if you are not used to modding Skyrim or have very little experience using mods, its best to stick to mods that do not require any additional mods (so base game only). This will help you figure out how they work when you're just getting started.
This was excellent tutorial; I just joined the wonderful world of PC gaming. The first mod I installed was Precise and all its dependencies. Worked like a charm. For new modders, when installing SKSE you might have to use the top link and not the second link. I had to use the top link to get it running through mod manager.

C'mon honey, new Heavy Burns video just dropped Edit: What's the main menu from? I know the UI mod is Nordic UI but I don't know what the main menu is? But I would be happy if you could provide a link to it. :)
i followed everything in the video and when i go to download my mods they dont show up in the mod manager at all but still says that they're being downloaded, any idea why?
There is a collection/compilation of mods on Nexus I'd really like to check out. However, it's only for Vortex users. Is there a way to get this collection over to MO2?
Personally I prefer Vortex for a mod manager as you don't ussaly have to mannualy drag mod files from place to place. It also has a memory/gpu tracker which I think is pretty neat
To anyone new to this, a word of advice. Save skyrim and your mods anywhere other than your program files, those folders have special authorization and can screw everything up later, it's best to run them off another drive. Run vanilla skyrim before using SKSE so it can generate necessary files. ENBs are performance heavy and will cut your frame rate in half or worse (even on a good PC). Personally, I prefer community shaders/texture packs, newer lighting and weather mods, and extended LOD mods (dyndoLOD), over ENBs. I'd rather have frames and a pretty game than playing a beautiful game that runs like a slideshow.
When I try to run skse through MO2 I get an error message saying that I am using Skyrim 1.6.318 which is out of date and incompatible version of SKSE64 2.2.3. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS!
Yes you will need to download Skyrim update files manually as I think you are using an unofficial version, it's not really that difficult just need some search in google.
Please help - I made it up until Nemesis. If I download off of nexus with either "Manual Download" option or the "Mod Manager Download" option, I can't then find it anywhere under the next step of adding it as a file/executable. Also when I used the "find in explorer" option, I did find it but then the "Nemesis_Engine" could not be added as an executable.
Don’t know if you fixed your problem yet, but if you find in explorer just copy all of those files and paste them in your Skyrim mods folder then execute them.

If that's the case then you'll want to use Vortex for that instead of MOD Organizer, trust me I am a beginner too and tried managing less than 30 mods to work all together. It took me 3 days of watching tutorials and I could not get them to work properly. On Vortex there's mod bundles people put together called collections to make your game look so much better. These collections have around 100+ to 1k+ mods within them just to make the game look and feel nicer.

This makes it more time consuming to update Mod Organizer and more difficult to switch between instances.'
and 'that the portable instance files are mixed with the Mod Organizer installation files, which can lead user errors when manually messing with either. Keeping them separate and distinct would be safer.'
Read the wiki page on instances here: github.com/ModOrganizer2/modorganizer/wiki/Instances
I hope this helped you or anyone else reading. Have fun modding!
Edit:
Forgot to add, while you will have to reinstall mods and tools you had on the previous instance.
@@femmenic When opening MO2 for the first time click on local instead of global.
It's crazy how much better modding AE has gotten over the past 2 years. I remember around 2020 we could not even get access to HDT physics let alone anything else inlcuding Nemesis. Love your work.
That Nemesis and OAR have replaced practically every other requirement for animations also makes the process so much more streamlined!
Really good timing, I just got back into wanting to mod Skyrim after years and years of not playing. I'm actually just now swapping over to MO2 since the last time I modded Skyrim was when NMM was still the platform to use lol
Why not Vortex?!
@@SamDy99 vortex is fine but MO2 is easier to learn, if you're comfortable with vortex no need to change

Either way there is no harm in installing it somewhere else.
the LOOT version in the executables is also many version behind it seems. The newest version is V0.20.0 but the MO2 one is V0.13.6

Personally, i think learning how to mod BEFORE using Wabbajack is way better. So you'll know what your modlist does to your game and what to do if you want to customize it
@@Ghostrick74 Basically this I use my own mod pack since I been playing Skyrim for years but if your going to use Wabbajack list you should at least know the basics its helps a lot especially if you don't like a mod or want to solve conflicts that was overlooked by a Wabbajack mod author

I've been dreading reinstalling SKSE and other stuff so much that I haven't touched the game since around late 2022, or whenever I finally let it update to Anni Edition, but compared to the last guide that I watched on how to set this kinda stuff up, this is a walk in the park. Thank you!
That's what i'm doing now, lost interest in consoles and want to move to pc. I

Thank you so much for this indepth and easily followable guide! As someone who never "modded" more then changing a few vehicle skins on a flight or racing sim, or say putting a different picture in a cockpit on Il-2, this video finally makes everything understandable and it seems to be starting to get through my thick skull.

problem for me is the end , after i choose the mods ,the patches i have more than 1000, now they told me to make ESP to ESL,synthesis to make more patches , ssedit or zmerge for levelled list, then Acmos plus dyndolod, than nemesis and then the one i am afraid is the bodyoutfit for preset and armors, and many others i forgot for sure...a Video about ending is what i need!!!

Nice and clear and you didn't click click click as if you were in a hurry. Others could learn from you.
ENB didn't work for me. My game hung up on a black screen. I had to kill the game through Task Manager. I just removed the two files and uninstalled the app.
Everything else works great. 😊
Thank you so much for making such a comprehensive, beginner friendly video for someone like me who is new to modding.
For those who cannot run Nemesis (force close or error 6006), create an empty mod and rename it Nemesis Output. Then, edit the executable file under the drop down box, and tick the overwrite into mod (select Nemesis Output).

currently working on that too since I finally switched over from Xbox.
Not that difficult really. Just check the comments and don't download mods that haven't been updated in forever that require skse

I use Vortex for modding all my games. Is there a reason why that wouldnt be as good as the program you use?
MO2 doesn't open for me? Like it's installed, but when I try to launch it nothing happens.
This was excellent tutorial; I just joined the wonderful world of PC gaming. The first mod I installed was Precise and all its dependencies. Worked like a charm.
For new modders, when installing SKSE you might have to use the top link and not the second link. I had to use the top link to get it running through mod manager.
I am clearly noticing that I am way too new to pc for this to be simple. everyone in the comments is saying how easy this is, yet it's been almost 2hrs and I still haven't finished.
Edit: coming up on 3hrs and i think i have wasted a lot of time for nothing someone pls help. im trying to set up nemesis but can't find the folder, i do the whole right click and view in explorer and see it there, but its gone when i try to find it when adding an executable.

Tried for hours and then this video made me Skyrim mod in 5 minutes LOL. Thanks man.

There is a collection/compilation of mods on Nexus I'd really like to check out. However, it's only for Vortex users. Is there a way to get this collection over to MO2?
FINALLY SOMEONE DEMONSTRATED IT PROPERLY I'M SO GLAD I FOUND YOU😭😭
Personally I prefer Vortex for a mod manager as you don't ussaly have to mannualy drag mod files from place to place. It also has a memory/gpu tracker which I think is pretty neat
um what is memory/gpu tracker?
No mention for nexus collections?
" You won't need to know anything other than you're gonna need it and it just works" instant sub
Also make sure to download the correct files depending on if you are using special edition, aniversary edition or legendary edition.
I love your channel. My favourite for everything Skyrim-related.
Please help -
I made it up until Nemesis.
