    As a k24a swapped with rrc oil pump and hasport 71a mounts, I can confirm that Alex's description is absolutely on point. Never believed what folks said about the vibrations until my first startup. But, the droning and vibrations are bearable for me, as long as I keep it under 4k rpms on the freeway. I'm dynotuned on a mustang dyno with an injen cai, berk test pipe, 50* vtc and hfp muffler, my car made 196 hp and 160ft lbs of torque and compared to my z3 that had a stock intake with k&n filter, nst pulleys, berk testpipe and hfp muffler made 192 hp and 140 ft lb of torque. Same tuner, same dyno, same chassis and mounts. But knowing that the k24a made nearly as much torque as some z3 motors' hp make (untuned) and knowing I don't have to worry as much about the cracked blocks that happened to my original motor, I'm satisfied with my swap. My z3 motor made around 172hp on the base run and around 130 ft lb of torque. Then again, my tuner's dyno also reads low as he had a b20v turbo eg hatch that made 220 hp on his dyno and went and tuned on a different mustang dyno the same day 3 hrs away and made 240 hp.
    All in all, i'm not building a racecar. Just sharing my exp.
    My future plans are to get the 06 tsx drop in cams and rrc im and a retune. But that's more than likely just wishful thinking.
    The k24a honda absolute motors are hit and miss. But from the sounds of what my tuner has seen, depending on the bolt ons, he's seen some make 180 hp and others make 220 hp.
    Go with your budget and do tons of research before making the choice.
    I wish i wouldve bought and thrown in the 06-08 tsx cams prior to dropping the motor in. It's 1000% easier to work on these motors when they're out of the chassis.
    Fun fact, the k24a (for the non enthusiast who is on a budget and needs a direct replacement motor and don't care about the things I've mentioned), the motor runs completely fine with a 50*vtc and stock k24a oil pump without a tune. Or in my case, with my exact setup and no basemap on the factory settings. Lota people say it sputters, runs rich bc of the 2.4L and blah blah blah. No. Afr are normal. Idling is normal. Vtec still engages like normal. Just in case people were curious.

    Those first audio clips are why hondas actually do sound good if you stay with a quieter high quality exhaust and a loud intake lol.

    Good on you for mentioning the NVH downside. Lots of people chasing hp but the reality is you’re getting 30whp and the car is still a 14 second car. I’m all for keeping the k20 and not fixing what’s not broken, and have a car I can drive drone free to the canyons and back.

    Just recently swapped my 8th gen k20z3 to K24A2 RBB from 07 TSX , best decision I ever made , love my car even more now, it was a lot of work but worth the investment.

      @sebs3167 I spent about$1,200 for the motor, $1,600 in labor plus $800 in parts, that’s including new water pump, serpentine belt, motor mounts, alternator, starter, hybrid racing radiator hoses, aluminum radiator, knock sensor, basically things that are difficult to install might as well replace them new while the engine is out. You can basically budget build with $3k to start, not including the dyno tune, or if you have Hondata also.

    • @cesarz188
      @cesarz188 2 місяці тому

      Just dropped it in, all I did was replace the old accessories with new, but as long as you’re running it stock or simple bolt ons like exhaust and cold air intake , you don’t need much to swap si ce you are using most of your Z3 accessories and sensors.

    Guys let me put a stop to this really quick..A k24 with a stock pump can rev over 8k with no issues. I've been running a k24a2 with stock oil pump to 8200rpm for over 3 years now with no issues. My cousin has one too that he's been revving to 8400 with no issues. Both of them see over 8k multiple times a day every day.

    My Si has an exhaust leak that makes it sound like it's going to blow up when I hit VTEC. Gonna throw a header on it since I'm going to have to pull the manifold anyway.

    2011 si (k20) owner here. Didn't even realize that the k24 was capable of those revs without heavy modifications. Wouldn't it be easier to just get a 9th gen si though with a k24 in it already? I mean I prefer the look and feel of the 8th gens better but I could see the swap being costly, especially the tune. And I'm confused about one part of the video too; did he say he used the factory trans or was that a transplant too? That kind of worries me because the factory trans can't even stand up to the torque of the k20 (I'm looking to rebuild mine if I keep it much longer and it only has about 70k on it).

    • @Fransua-07
      @Fransua-07 9 місяців тому

      I haven’t had experience with a 9th gen, but many people say that thoes k24s don’t feel as raw and fun

    • @ryanl8340
      @ryanl8340 9 місяців тому

      @@Fransua-07 I believe the rev limiter is set much lower on those, like around 7k if I'm not mistaken. Plus I'm sure the tune makes it much more enjoyable.

      A JDM K24A is way better than the 9th gen K24Z. Alex replaced his transmission with another one because the original gave out. A 9th gen trans is no stronger, they're all weak.

    • @alexwu2542
      @alexwu2542 9 місяців тому

      Hi, Alex here.
      The 9th gen K24 is not a dual VTEC engine. And the head has the exhaust collector built in so the power potential is very limited when you try to modify it.
      You want a dual VTEC K24 with a head that doesn’t collect into a single port like the 9th gen. This K24A doesn’t have that 9th gen problem.
      I got a rebuilt 8th gen trans. I considered a 9th gen trans but there’s a lot of adapting to do and your speedometer will be way off.

    • @Wickedreptiles
      @Wickedreptiles 4 місяці тому

      Idk why everyone says the trans and clutch are trash in the 8th gen mine has 170k on the original clutch and I drive the shit out of this car, I just don’t dog it, I do bring the rpm’s up to like 7500 to fall back into vtech but I’m not shifting the car hard, I wait for the rpm’s to drop before releasing the clutch in between shifts, also rev match when down shifting
