Doing that will let the k24 breath better but not really worth going through the trouble of head swapping just to get a few more hp .turbo or supercharging it would be way better.
@@boxer951 It depends on what you want though. If you're looking for an easily attainable big peak power number then you can't beat a turbo, but with that kind of boost you're gonna have lag until 4 or 5k. Supercharged is nice, basically gives the feel of a bigger motor, same power delivery, just more of it, but most struggle to keep the boost up in higher rpms, which is where these motors were meant to be(vtec yo lol). The same deal with smaller turbos, they will spool up quicker than a bigger one, but power will peak sooner bc the turbo can't keep up at the higher rpms. Instead of a more linear power curve, one that makes peak power at red line(which translates to it pulling harder and harder all the way to red line. You can achieve this with a properly sized turbo or staying N/A. Basically, a supercharger or small turbo will give you way more torque at lower rpm's but will run out of breath at the top, a big turbo will pull all the way but you pay for it in lag at lower rpms where the car will be slower than a stock one at same rpm, for a street car this isn't bad, you can save gas by driving it like a normal civic, but then when you want to you can just keep your foot in it and more likely than not you'll be the fastest car around. A nice N/A car gives you the best response and delivers a nice, linear power band. I have a stock motor 08 Si (fa5) so I'm definitely biased but I don't think you'll find anybody who knows anything about motors that'll say the 9th gen engine is better than the 8th gen. Just from a technical perspective the k24z7 only had vtec on intake due to it only having one big oval exhaust valve per cylinder, and the manifold is literally built into the head so no after market headers. I mean it's got 25% more displacement but still makes the same power, albeit more torque at lower rpms and overall but idk, even if I was boosting and I could have whichever engine I wanted, k20z3 hands down. With a turbo and a few upgrades to valvetrain you can make nearly 400hp and Rev out to 9 or even 10k, pulling the whole way. I personally would want the z3 head on a 2.4 tsx block, rsx type s oil pump, good bolt one and good tune and you can push 250whp, with cams and such you can crack 300. 300hp with zero lag, instant throttle response, linear powerband and just as reliable as stock(bc all the major engine components are Honda oem parts, just mixed and matched, just might just stay on top of your maintenance and you have the 9th gen motor Honda should've built. It'd of made more power than all its competitors despite them using turbos. Idk i had a turbo d16y8 in my 99 ex coupe and it was cool as fuck but idk, my fan's k20z3 feels so much better and has way more potential. Hell even if you're going straight into boost a k20 head on k24 block would be sick due to getting all the benefits of more displacement without any of the drawbacks or compromises made by the k24z7 head . I just noticed this is a 9 month old response lol.

it remind of ap1 and ap2 s2000. both engine is completely different feels. its hard to pick one you like better. k24, most people like city driving with low end torque. but the k20 makes you drive harder and the vtec engagement is satisfying. there was a race between both engine with similar hp. its nearly neck to neck, but the k24 in a long race in corner could overtake since it has the lower end torque.
I had an 8th gen Si sedan in which I swapped the stock k20z3 for a k24A2/jdm version. And I used the stock ecu,no tune and the K24 beats the K20 in torque and powerwise they both make the same horsepower, only difference is the k20 can rev 1k higher but that 1k won't make the k20 much faster. So imo that k24 swapped Si would really spank on that sedan k20. It may feel to you that your k20 is as fast as the k24 but in a race you'll see why most everyone goes k24 and don't look back. I do like the k20z3 head though to install on a k24 since the k20 head has better air flow but that's about it and imo not really worth doing a head swap unless your planning on staying all motor and wanna squeeze out every last drop of power from the k24.

Why some people don't want to accept that is beyond me. Not my problem. I'm glad Honda offered both engines, but the first opportunity I get to swap out my K20 for a K24, I will gladly do it!
Depends what you would call better and that’s the problem it’s just your opinion at the end of the day. Some people enjoy the higher revving engines. In drag races you see K20s blowing k24s out of the water both tuned. It’s preference. There’s a reason why the k20 is common in a lot of k swaps
@@DOOMLORDHOKAGE Glad you brought this up. What number of people who own cars with K engines use them for? 6.4 seconds to 60 versus 6.7 seconds to 60 my r18 with a 5-speed manual with clocked at 7.7 seconds to 60 by motor trend
Interesting comparo. Thanks for making this.
Anytime someone says just $1000 for a k24 you better believe that it’s gonna be more like 5-7k to get it done properly. Start adding up every mount and gasket.
it remind of ap1 and ap2 s2000. both engine is completely different feels. its hard to pick one you like better. k24, most people like city driving with low end torque. but the k20 makes you drive harder and the vtec engagement is satisfying. there was a race between both engine with similar hp. its nearly neck to neck, but the k24 in a long race in corner could overtake since it has the lower end torque.
Best thing I did feel great and low rev sounds amazing
K20 over k24 I’ve seen it and can’t change my mind
K20 all day
I have had both. The k24 is punchy.. the k20 sounds scarier and higher rev but the torq is not there like,, at all..
I have some questions for your buddy... I plan on putting a k24 in my fg2 .. two questions .. he said he had to put a crv mount in, was there and fabricating needed for that or did it go right in? Also I have a hondata flash pro for my car ( k20z3) do I need to get a diff one for the k24 or will the one I have work to reflash it
I like both engines yet that K24 dude it is ridiculous. There are those who were still undecided about both engines, and now you have just sealed the deal for that K24 it is so much more torquier and cheaper than the K20. Even though you can do more mods to the K20, I believe you can do just as much with the K24 to the internals and put a super charger on that thing with that torque and you have an absolute V8 killer can someone say come on Lexus IS 500? Yeah I get it there's still the ultimate swap out there and that would be the K20 TOP End & K24 Bottom End and you would then have an absolute BEAST oh don't forget the Super Charger! V12 Contender! Come on somebody!

I bought a fa5 recently k24/k20 I love vtech kicking in at 4k rpms and redline at 8,400. I use to have a rsx type-s with an intake I miss it lol
I wonder if anyone has swapped in the FK2/8 dual axis strut to limit torque steer when running a high output k24? I know a LSD will help but coupled with the wicked suspension design would make a true monster.
Si transmissions have a helical LSD from the factory.
Ive had multiple of both. Stock or just bolt ons k20 all the way. Wish i could do the k20 head /24 block build
Do you know of the La Han Automotive any info on them i wanna get my k20 swapped out for a k24 but i need a shop to do it?
Subzero Motorsports in Ontario California is a good place!.ps......ua-cam.com/video/g-hNmkSdliU/v-deo.html
k20A2 from my rsx type s is the best hands down
I have a 2006 2.0 si fg2. 214,000miles. Daily driver and running strong. Any advice in future maintenance? I know my vct needs replaced but other then that, no tune just stock and its still strong. 8)
That vct gear is easy to do by yourself all you got to do is take valve cover off a find dead center pull chain off gear and replace.😃
I’ve got a black 2006 si with 212k and running strong too. May need a k24 swap for fun
Are they both automatic or stick shift. What's the best swap for 2013 Honda Civic automatic swap for faster speed and more horsepower
U check if the seat is raised up ?
Honestly I knew how I would feel about the swap when I found out it wasn’t a frank swap
Did you mind change about the torque loss on the k20 AFTER your reflash?
K24 still has so much more torque. It's about a 30 lb-ft difference across the whole powerband.
Can I put a 9th gen civic si trans in my 8th gen civic si?
a good tip is to put the tyype r's oil pump to get better performance!!
"Big heavy car like the Civic Si" ?
😂😂😂😂 LMAO
Well I just got 89 crx si .. which one is better for My car .. I would love to put a blower or turbo ???
This was a really good comparison video love my k24 in my crv 😂🤣😂🤓
I think.there seems to be a need to compare the K20 to the K24 and have a discussion that doesn't offend the K20 fans. At the end of the day, the K24 engine is the better engine.
Fair to say a large majority use the engines in cars to commute and drive on the streets vs drag racing? That's great the K20 has the potential to make more power (which is debatable. I'm fine with both engines. I'm glad both exist), when using the engine 98% of the time not reving the crap out of it, majority of the people want tq.
If I had a car that was used mainly for tracking and the K20 is the better engine to use, I'll gladly use it. For all other purposes, the K24 is superior.
@@andydhillon1977 I think you just need to let people enjoy things they like. You're trying really hard to "dismantle" someone else's preference. You might be very insecure in your purchase good sir
@@DOOMLORDHOKAGE I'm not trying hard to dismantle anything. My responses were short and concise. It was pretty easy.
I'm not insecure about owning a Mugen Civic. 1 of 1000 car that will have the K20 replaced for a K24. I'll keep the K20 still.
I sleep well at night.
@@andydhillon1977 So why are you complaining in a youtube comment about not understanding why people like the K20s, trying to convince anyone reading (or yourself) that k24 is the better engine and announcing to the world that you're switching to a k24? Awesome video! Your tire setup inspired me to get a reverse staggered setup with 245/40/17 and 225/45/17 setup on my FG2! :)
245 up front right? I think I might do the same, I have 225/40/17 on 17x8.5 +32 and I have at least an inch of space to poke out in the rear, and maybe 2 in the front. FG2 as well.
Thinking maybe 265 10-10.5 up front and 245 9-9.5 in the rear
@@dangusprime Sheesh man that sounds super aggressive, sounds like you'll have to do a good amount of fender modifications
@@Jay-xg3pt yeah I'd probably shave my rear quarters and roll my fronts, but I am on Coilovers so I can raise the car a bit if I need to

255/40R17 all around with my FA5 but that kind of staggered works perfectly

I can't wait to add a K24A2 to my FA5. I prefer to. I'll keep the K20Z3 as a backup.

The K24 vtec does not hit hard because it’s not the TSX K24a2 it’s a K24a from the elements and Odyssey!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
K24A2 is a superior engine to a k20z3, you have to ring the neck of a k20z3 to get the power out of it while the k24 just gives the power effortlessly. A k24a2 can rev to 7.5pm easily. You won't miss that .5 rmp that the k20z3 have over it.
500rpm more? Who shifts at their k20 at 8000rpm lol? I rev my 31 year old single cam accord to 7500rpm lol. Mind you its not stock by any means.
Lol and k20z3 can rev to 8500 rpm easily too stock with a tune . But I'll say the k24a2 is better if you plan to stick NA but the k20 is better if you plan to boost it. At the end of the day tho , you can always combine the 2 and get best of both
Handle on left side lowers the seat.
How can I make a 2013 Civic Sedan Automatic Faster and more power? Anyone what's a good swap for it?
The Smoking Tire 🛞 spot 😀
Nice comparison video. But did he really describe the civic si "as a big heavy car?" Compared to what? It's not the smallest car but it sure isn't grandmas Buick either....
My FA5 weighed 2950lbs fresh from the factory. That's pretty heavy for a car with nearly 70/30 weight distribution and given how modest the engine output is.
Love my car, and if you check out my other videos on the build it's very quick on track, but its not a fast car.
Its 2 years later, im sure you know you can raise and lower the seats 😅
I knew back then. The seat was at its lowest position.
Which is faster tho?
What's the rev limit on the k 24
7200 on the stock oil pump
Stock k20 vs k24 with hybrid cai and goodies
Question why the wider tire at the front?
The car is FWD.
@@DriveBreakFixRepeat I put on wider tires up front, and it makes the car very darty. Do not recommend when going fast speeds.

snag a K20c4 out of a wrecked accord and swap it into anything 2400lbs or less, turn up the boost, have fun, ruin the turbo, BIG TURBO TIME, 450whp ez.
Putting the k20 type R head on the k24 engine . Then you would see how fast the k24 really is even though k20 have more rpm i can say it is difficult to beat the k24 ^_^ . Great video though bro

I have a '03 accord with the box stock k24, just turned 220k and still burns almost no oil. Why would I want a new car?🤔
the k24 can be better with the head off of the that k20 because most of the k24s have IVTEC-E basically the opposite of high-performance while the that k20 has IVTEC the real one wich actually is for performance and actually makes more hp when engaged 😅
K24 with be faster in a light to light race tho, only time k20 will come out on top is in a top speed run
If it's not a tsx upgrade pointless both cams have vtec

You're right for the most part, but at the same time they realize there's a bunch of ppl that must have sedans so they're trying to bring the fun factor to them as well. Odyssey k24 ? That’s not the same k24 that the TSX has the TSX is the K24a2 with better cams and rods and a few other little things but definitely different internals !
The K20 is the last true screamer of a Honda Civic the fuel cut off 8500 RPM that K20 just sings up to the red line and it's so much more fun to drive a car that has a higher Red line even if it has a lot less torque because getting there is the fun k24s are good for torque increase but 8th gen z are easily built up and it's nothing for these things to handle 250 horsepower with minimal upgrades or mostly all stock internals
I like k24 better tho more torque down low gets up and moves a bit better than k20 , but put a k20 head on a k24 block and have the best of both , worlds , k20 for light to light , and k20 for mile racing
650 whp you mean, stock internals with turbo.
