I am amazed that you can spot the faulty component in the thermal camera when other areas of the board appear to be just as hot. Years of experience, I expect.

    • @jarjarbinks77

Most of the areas that look hot are just reflections and you learn to spot that pretty quickly.

Just a little advice to you my friend. Buy a building with a decent amount of land and expand as necessary. You will save soo much more and the monies spent are an actual investment rather than wasted on rent with no return value. If you have a good accountant you can actually use dividend as collateral for land purchase atleast in canada. Well done I’m really proud of your family business being sustainable especially thru this pandemic.

My Asus tuf f15 just die no power no chargelight. Had to send it to ASUS who denied the warranty because the sticker was broken. I only took it apart to change the thermal paste because it was thermal throttling. In the first place. Charged me $900 to replace the motherboard. I paid $1130 for it.
No idea if where the short is and if it's GPU related so I have to bite the bullet and pay.
Worst part is that even though it's being repaired out of pocket and out of warranty they're not returning the defective board.

@northbridge , How do you know its a 10 uF capacitor, i think I did ask this before, not sure if I missed a video whereby you replied to it, I know where to get the capacitors from ie your books and/or digikey or something But what I do not know is how you know its 10uF, I cant see any numbers on that capacitor to check for the value

  • @sk22ng

Alex, I think that you're going to need to clone yourself a few times in order to trudge through the back log of work you showed us. If I need something fixed, I'll certainly want to send it to you as a first choice and patiently wait for its return knowing not only that your fees would be fair, but it would also be in good hands irregardless of the outcome of whether it could be repaired or not. I have watched a lot of your videos and have a high level of confidence in you. You are smart and have an unusual amount of knowledge and skills to offer while using the latest and greatest in equipment and supplies. Besides that, you have a nice personality, to boot. Please keep on posting my friend.

I love your videos. It is easy to say, move to a bigger space but the cost to buy real estate in California is outrageous. The consequences of a successful, growing business....space issues. The tricky part with expansion is the economy. If the economy goes into a recession or depression then that could destroy your business. Anyway, you'll figure it out. Congratulations on such a successful business.

I have a question: When you add the 1 volt to a component to see what areas of the board heat up under the thermal camera, does it matter when you inject the 1 volt as long as its on the poitive side of the component? For instance you inject the 1 volt into the positive side of a capacitor..does it have to be a capacitor that is grounding out OR can thre 1 volt be injected into ANY positive side of any capacitor?

if you can get out of your lease then yes time to move away from a storefront and into a commercial location. it seems your business is mostly if not all based on internet and shipped goods. you could honestly do most of what you need with 3 rooms: warehousing/storage for e-store/shipping, big bosses dis-assembly and repair queue and your repair/ filming room. would love to see the process of building out a streamlined space for your workflow.

Does anyone know why ceramic caps failing short is such a common failure cause for consumer electronics these days? Is it mechanical stress? I know MLCCs are very prone to cracking from board flex if they're in a vulnerable position.
