Thanks for the review Percy...I’m sure that the company’s involved are glad to hear a good fair review of products that are used...A good long trip is a great way to test real use of any product!
Thank you brother for posting another detailed video and taking the time to follow-up on this, I really appreciate it! Glad to see that the bags didn't do any damage to the paint and hopefully Rinehart can get some replacement parts out to you. Ride Safe!
Thanks!!! I am really loving how the bike is coming together. Those bags are off now and I've mounted a Givi Dolomiti DLM30 case on the rack. Thinking about maybe trying to sell the Thrashin bags. But I might keep them in case I want the additional storage for a trip in the future.
Ditch that exhaust man. Those double cans look out of place on your otherwise Awesome bike. A nice matte black 2 into 1 pipe would look amazing. I put a TBR pipe on mine. It sounds amazing. I don't sweat it if my bike gets a little scratch here or there. It's meant to be ridden, not a show bike. Glad you had a nice trip.
I actually did the TBR Comp S exhaust on the bike the last year that I had it. It was incredible. Love my RGS but I really miss my Fat Bob. Kills me that I couldn’t come up with a way to keep her.
Great review, I’ve been looking at both the Essential and Escape bags, I think I’m going to go for the larger Escape bags even with the extra $100 price on top. I wonder if they’ve updated their design for newer bags, but I think I’ll still get them because I hate riding with a backpack and I’d like to have some storage on my Street Bob. It sucks they melted on your exhaust and ruined your beautiful Reindharts and did some other damage, that’s pretty disappointing when spending upwards of $350 on bags and they start ruining other parts that are not cheap to replace. I don’t think I’ll have any issues with them melting on my exhaust, I just hope they don’t mess the black paint up too badly. Thanks again for your review, now I have a little better understanding of what to look for and what I’m getting! You’ve gained a new sub! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Thanks man. TBH... those are good bags. They just weren't the right fit for me. Had I known what I learned after using them, I would have either gone a different route or I would have accounted for the flex at the bottom when I put them on. Hate the damage to my mufflers, but I learned something from my experience that I was able to use when I selected the bags that I have now.
@@withPercy did you end up selling the Escape Bags or did you keep them? If you kept them and aren’t using them would you be willing to sell them? I really need some bags for a little road trip I’ll be taking soon with my uncle, it’ll be my longest ride and it’ll be around a 3-4 day 1000-1200mi trip and I’m still waiting on my sissy bar to be made that will hold my other sissy bar bag. We will be camping every night except 1 when we reach the Grand Canyon. I’m super excited because it’ll be a practice run for my longer trip that will most likely be a few weeks long. I’ll be leaving Arizona to visit family on the Cali cast and ride the coast up through Oregon to Washington and then come back down through Idaho, Montana, see Yellowstone down to Utah through Zion and Bryce Canyon back home to Arizona. It’s one of my “Bucket List” rides that I’ve been wanting to do for like the past 15-20yrs.
Wow, I didnt realize the install was so complex. I was looking at those over the Essential bags because of the size. You know the damage doesnt look too bad on your exhaust...at least I dont think it stands out, luckily the bag didnt melt through and dump all your belongings. Cant wait to hear more about your trip, wish I could have made it.
We missed having you there. We were talking about doing it next year in Kentucky. That would be a much shorter ride to/from for you and me. Have you met vvoltz yet? He’s down in DC and we rode to IL together. I was thinking about doing an overnight ride around the Chesapeake route next month and seeing if you and vvoltz wanted to join in. As far as the bags... I wish I had gone with the Essentials. The Escapes are much more than I need and look too wide on the Fat Bob.
@@withPercy I've been a little absent from social media lately so I havent checked vvoltz out just yet but thats cool that he's close by. As far as chesapeake, a group I chat with in discord actually went this month and I missed out, I'd love to go. Kinda surprising that the escapes are wide on your fat bob, I guess I'd have to see them in person.
Man, that's sucks. Hope you can figure out a way to make it harder in the bottom. Perhaps a piece of acrylic board would keep it from sagging. I had a similar issue with my Vikings. Rub on the shocks and sagging on the outer side of the bags. Now specifically the left side. Very disappointing. Hopefully I'll have hard bags next MMM. ANYWAY it was a pleasure to meet you there
It was really great meeting you as well. We'll see what next year brings for the Fat Bob. I think I'll have a better... non-damaging... solution in place by then. 😬
Hey my man, Thrashin literally says on the website it does not fit the FXFBS without the add on hard frame attachment. I ordered these bags as well as the hard frame attachment as soon as they were released, and never had an issue and can still use the quick detach system. You installed this all wrong my brother
This video was from several years ago. There was no hard frame attachment back then. Good to see that maybe they’ve tweaked things to address the issue I had back then.
Hey Perc1 Thanks for your great videos by the way....I have the exact same Fat Bob as you! Same color..love the bike. I love the Ends Cuoio bags and I was contemplating buying the exact same as you OR a luggage rack/sissy bar set up thinking that I could not have both because they use the same mounting system sort of.... I notice you have both nouted.....How does the respective mounting hardware work to achieve this!!! Tks!
The biggest problem I’ve found with the escape bags is the if you don’t have flush sissy bar bolts , your bolts will wear holes through the rubber coating on the back of the bags, very disappointing for $360 bags
I would like to say I went that route for some super smart reason. But it really came down to looks and putting it up high because I have a bad lower back. I had a nice lower swing arm bag on my Iron 1200 but caught my back a couple of times trying to get stuff out of it.
Hey man, question for you. I'm looking at ordering a set of these bags, I also have a custom sissy bar on the way that will be hard mounted ( behind the strut )... Do you foresee any issue with these bags installing with a sissy bar mounted this way? Fortunately I shouldn't have any issues with my exhaust on my FXLRS. Sorry you had that happen, sick Fat Bob tho man.
Yeah, man. I don’t see how you could make that work without maybe bending the fender in a bit on the sides. It was such a bitch for me that I haven’t gone through taking them off, even though I’ve not had these bags on the bike since I shot this video. I’ve seen where some people are running the bags without using the brackets though. I guess I could see that working if you’ve got enough stuff in them so that they don’t flap about.
Are you talking about the paint off the back tips of the light casings? Yeah. The Escape bags did that. Could have been a contact point that I didn't notice when I put them on. Really not sure.
You can probably get away without using the mounts. But looping the straps through those mounts is what keeps the bags from flopping out from the bottom.
Being Here Now, with Percy So did you have to bend the brackets a bit? And also, does your fender have indents where the strut bolts on? If I place the front bracket around where it should be, it kicks the back of the strut out quite a bit!.
I really struggled with these. I actually called Thrashin to talk to a tech there because I thought they must have included the wrong brackets. I’ve already taken mine off so I can’t show any pictures, but it did push the rear strut out a bit. And yeah, my fender has indents. They really need a new solution here. These things should mount behind the fender. Not between the strut and fender.
I have the same escape bags on my 2018 Fat Bob. They came with two sets of mounts, dyna and softail. I used the dyna mounts on the forward part of my fender arms and used the regular softail mounts for the rear. After sizing up the softail mounts I knew they weren't going to fit so I just swapped them out for the Dyna mounts which was much easier to toss on. The whole install took maybe 20 minutes for everything.
Hey Joel - Sorry for the late response. I haven't thought about selling them but they haven't been back on my bike since I took them off after this video. Gimme a day or two to think about it and I'll let you know, if you're still interested.
Hey. Hope ur staying safe with this coronavirus crap. It’s finally getting warm enough to ride in Wisconsin and I was thinking of getting some bags. Are you going to hold on to those or did you want to try to sell them?
Hey Bob. Thanks for checking out the video. I didn’t have any problem with the Zippers during the trip but, frankly, I have not put the bags back on after I made this video. I will probably only use these bags when I’m going on week long trips. The top case I added for daily use provides ample storage and it’s as secured as I can make something on the bike.
Thanks for the review Percy...I’m sure that the company’s involved are glad to hear a good fair review of products that are used...A good long trip is a great way to test real use of any product!
Hopefully more so than Kuryakyn was on my Deadbeat review on their web site. Which they deleted.
Thank you brother for posting another detailed video and taking the time to follow-up on this, I really appreciate it! Glad to see that the bags didn't do any damage to the paint and hopefully Rinehart can get some replacement parts out to you. Ride Safe!
Thanks, man! I try to put stuff out there that answers questions I can't find info on. Glad some people find it useful!
Wow, that is a good looking Fat Bob! Glad to see the bags didn't damage the fender, but bummed they damaged your turn signal and exhaust. Damn man!
Thanks!!! I am really loving how the bike is coming together. Those bags are off now and I've mounted a Givi Dolomiti DLM30 case on the rack. Thinking about maybe trying to sell the Thrashin bags. But I might keep them in case I want the additional storage for a trip in the future.
Best honest review I've seen in a while. Great job man.
Superb verbal details and shots showing us what’s up. Gratitude

The right side bag should have some type of metal on the bottom of bag, because of hot pipes.

Hopefully if they do improve the design they'll run the MOLLE Webbing on the end horizontal as its supposed to be instead of vertically.
Yeah. That would be another thing to tweak for sure.

That's 4 things I have learned not to do to my Fat Bob now, thanks ! Wondering why you put a high dollar swing arm bag where you did ?
I would like to say I went that route for some super smart reason. But it really came down to looks and putting it up high because I have a bad lower back. I had a nice lower swing arm bag on my Iron 1200 but caught my back a couple of times trying to get stuff out of it.
Love your sissy bar+fender rack! would you mind sharing what they are?

@@withPercy thanks for the quick feedback man, keep it shiny side up out there.
Your seat. Is that stock? It looks great
Yeah. In this video that was the stock seat. Looked nice but after awhile it had to be replaced. Got too uncomfortable.
These don’t fit a 21 with the bracket between strut and fender. Have to put the bracket outside the fender
Thanks for that info, Ray!
So if I have a sissy bar that goes between the strut and fender it sounds like the bag brackets would be close to impossible to fit. Am I right?
Yeah, man. I don’t see how you could make that work without maybe bending the fender in a bit on the sides. It was such a bitch for me that I haven’t gone through taking them off, even though I’ve not had these bags on the bike since I shot this video. @@withPercy damn. Now I wish I went with detachable sissy bar but k don't like stuff outside of the fender. Oh well thanks for the quick response
Wait did the Thrashin bags rub the paint off the taillight or was that your old bags?
Are you talking about the paint off the back tips of the light casings? Yeah. The Escape bags did that. Could have been a contact point that I didn't notice when I put them on. Really not sure.
@@withPercy yessir, ah shit I’m gonna have to keep an eye on them then. Thank you for the quick response, I just picked these up today.
That sucks man.....at least its not too much damage. video was awesome though!
Not too much, but it's enough to piss me off. I'm going to reach out to RH to see if they can sell me a new tip to replace the damaged on. Grrrr...
Do you have to use the mounts or can you just use the molly attachments like you can with the Essentials?
You can probably get away without using the mounts. But looping the straps through those mounts is what keeps the bags from flopping out from the bottom.
With the front bracket, did they fit easily for you? My brackets done line up with the front bolt hole.
I had the same issue. I finally got those under the strut but they were canted.
