The creditor countries would just invade to collect on the debt. UN would only demand they stop at deposing the coup. If we couldnt pay and had to default then UN might offer bankruptcy protection. Not sure what happened to greece.
+Belal DarkneSS; you've never seen red dawn. Even if our nuclear power was a deterrent that is also a bit of incentive for the UN to invade in order to keep a terrorist (debt skirting coup) group from having access to fully functioning nukes. And if even that doesnt happen then the debt may be sold off for pennies on the dollar to any militants who want UN approval for their own guerrila re-possessing of the unharbored naval fleet, offshore american military bases, any assets in those bases, etc to collect on valid debts. And if not that then no one will loan any money to the new group as they must use a new monetary system to replace the current one used to pay government services before taxes have been collected. ie savings bonds sold for the cash to run gov another day. Things wont go smoothly if debt is defaulted no matter how. I have to think it would be as bad as greece in the time when they defaulted.
+Belal DarkneSS; none of that is unique to octavia. The USA could do all that right now if it was true. Its kinda the same premise behind MMT policy. And good luck w octavia trying to prevent states from seceding along w the missile silos and fallout bunkers in their geographic boundaries. It’s now the emirate of Afghanistan so no more debt I guess

Their external assets are held in collateral/ransom for promised payment or proof of ability to pay the debt. 99.9% of them are frozen as I comment.
