I just took my 4R spare tire down to wash out the under carriage and frame that were both caked in mud and residual road salt from this last winter. If you stand on one side or the other and hold on to the inserted rod the whole time while cranking in a continuous circle with the other hand, that tire comes down in no time. I hope that spare release system holds up to regular use since I’m going to get a matching wheel and tire to rotate in with the other four.
Yes, it's a relatively quick and easy removal. This system has been around for quite a while and it should certainly stand the test of time. Happy wheeling!
@@AZOverland2017 Sure hope so. Just watched this morning on Matt's Off Road Recovery a Tundra's spare tire latch that had to be cut off with a grinder since the rod or the insert got rounded out! I'll have to look more closely at the parts every time I remove the spare to make sure it's all in good order and clean. Have a good one!
Great question. Not a lot of people run 275s even though that is probably what I'll run when I need new tires. I can tell you with my 265s A/T it is very tight so I'm thinking probably not. Possibly with some banging, but can't say for certain
It should be the same a the 5th Gen 4Runners. Basically, do everything in reverse. Slide the tire under and into position to mover upward. Make sure there is a good amount of slack in the line that lowers the tire. Guide it through the center of the wheel, then start to crank it up. You may have to adjust the line so it is centered in the wheel as it starts to tension. Once it is just crank it up until it is snug back in place.
Of the 20 or so vehicles I have owned dating back to 1982 dropping the spare on a 4Runner is by far the easiest one I have ever experienced.
Thank you for your clear video on how to drop the spare tire on your 4 Runner. Very clear and informative. I have subscribed to your site.
Thank you!
So helpful, thank you so much.
Your welcome. Thanks for watching!
Super helpful, doubt I would have found the lowering screw if I hadn't observed the angle he took to make that connection.
Thanks!
Thanks! The angle of the dangle was impossible to find. Got it now!
Happy you found it

How do you reinstall spare tire on 2007 4Runner
Do you know if a 275 tire can be mounted on the OEM black steel spare you showed in your video?

thank you so much
Great video. Can you fit 35 in there?
Unfortunately not. You would have to mount a 35" spare on the back or roof rack
Thanks you
