+Sara Enayath the dal is not suppose to be soft its suppose to be crisp . it gives a differrent flavour and taste how evr u can soften d dal if u dont like it crispy.
+rakshitha Rakshi if u soak,drain and fry it , it turns crispy too ,just not super hard! I didnt boil the daal , I only soaked them , I like them crispy too ,but not rock hard.

u can just soak the dal for half hour , then drain and use as per recipe , this will help it become soft but not mushy

Coconut Chutney or Pickles is enough. Some prefer having small vadas or bondas. The idea is to keep it light and simple!
