There's nothing better than using fresh coconut and breaking it the way chef showed.I have tried using those frozen grated coconut.they're so dry and tasteless.think they squeeze some of the milk from the coconuts.Compare the taste of freshly ground and readily available grated coconut.i'll always use fresh coconut now that i know the easy way .thanks Chef!this was awesome.Mainly coz u showed the way to use fresh coconut.

You don't have to add so many ingredients for making coconut chutney, because too many ingredients scares away people.
Just grind to paste grated coconut with salt and green or red chilli to a fine paste. Then just apply a tempering with mustard, red chilli, and curry leaves.
The other ingredients are optional. Even without them cutney will taste good

Chef this is the original chutney known all over the south. But I have something special to share. We make chutney first roast the green chilli and hing(pdr or wet hing), add this to the coconut, and grind to a fine paste. Remove from mixer, serve with tempering of curry leaves and Mustard seeds. If you want red colour chutney, then add roasted red chilli, bedgi mirchi, while roasting green chilli and hing. Add this to the coconut and grind, add a marble size tamarind, while grinding. Tempering as above. Urad dal generally we avoid, due to dental problems, it sometimes get stuck, and we have to search for toothpick.

@sudeesh01 With due respect and I am being a south Indian, I have a problem with the method you described. Not necessarily it breaks into two halves. Even if it does we need to peel off the outer hard shell for grating. This is what we do back home. But the chef's method has advantage, we can remove the shell and grate very easily. I did it, it is awesome. I don't think we really want to grate coconut like in good old days. I hope people remember how hard it is.

Hello, I enjoy your cooking videos and your enthusiasm for the food. I adore coconut and use it from drinking the coconut water to wearing coconut as a fragrance. I have frozen coconut that I want to use for the chutney but never used it frozen. How would I use it and would it be ok to grind by hand since I don't have a blender? Thanks. Take care.
