Spyderco Street Bowie, Street Beat: Must Haves

  • We'll start off with a P38 Lightning remembrance first!
Then we get to business on perhaps Spyderco's GREATEST fixed blade knife: the Perrin lightweight bowies. The Street Beat and the Street Bowie have been brought back and should be some of their top sellers. These VG10 clip bladed versatile knives are perfect for application to LBE. Also POUs of woods blade, EDC, defense are proffered. Add in a perfect sheath, a 6 oz or less carry weight, and reasonable price. Here's my original TNP 2008 writeup on these blades!
"If you can carry a mere 6 oz you can carry A LOT of knife with this Fred Perrin. Super light, super balanced, outstanding grip configuration, excellent steel, and a perfect sheath: I can't think of anything that would make this fixed blade design any better. This culmination of design perfection makes this an ultra versatile blade: hunting, camp knife, tactical use, EDC. Spyderco tapped out another home run with this one. But sadly this Perrin is no longer made but keep your eyes open for some on the market."

Hi TNPrs! Project still strong and working hard thanks to TNP Patreon. Remember TNPP gets the videos first and some never post on the main channel! Here's some TNPr comments from Patreon, join the fun and full flow of TNP content:www.patreon.com/Nutnfancy "Ed Bratton Which video had the richard bong content? I live near a state park named after him. 6d RowdyRon Almost bought one years ago from your original review. Sweet looking blades. I kind of agree on the steel though, at least for the new release. Street Bowie is a nice size. Loved the Air Force history (for obvious reasons). If you want a Cold Steel SR1 for review, I'll send you mine! I think you might actually like it. Great review. Thanks Nutn. 6d Raymond Kuhn Love my Street Bowie. I thought about getting a Street Beat back in late 2019 and couldn't find one anywhere online. I thought maybe Spyderco had discontinued it... glad to see they're available again! 6d Bretti Andrettski I was surprised that the street beat was the same price as the large one, like maybe just sub $100 -85 would get more of my attention 5d David Goodridge Have you ever read how at first the P38 was coming up short of range. Until Charles Lindbergh, while a civilian, flew with the 475th Fighter Group in the Pacific. He taught them how to get much more range and performance out of their Lightnings. He even flew a few (secretly) missions to show how it can be done. 1 6d Michael Rodman Cool knife this is like a 2 in 1 KRV for me since I didn’t see the first review so I’m gonna go watch that now. I agree wish they would have updated the steel a $115 for vg-10 seems a little bit on the high end, but not ridiculous though I’ll pay more for Japan made over the flu spreaders. 6d Connor Murphy I was super pumped when Spyderco started making these again, It's great to see a classic design still being made. Great video, thanks. 1 6d Todd Strelka I love those knives! My current EDC includes two Spyderco folders. But the fixed blades are so cool. I'd like to get both but that Street Beat could be a great EDC option. Reminds me of the LeDuck fixed blade I have. 1 6d Gilberto Esquivel Got me two of them street beats! A duracoat fde one on my plate carrier and one of them sick micarta handled ones! Some of the most underrated knives from spyderco... 2 6d Gilberto Esquivel I want to get my hands on one of them Spyderco Jump Masters as a gtw or bugout knife.. 6d Sheepdog Just started watching and saw your Manix 2 in bright orange. I have a translucent blue Manix 2 that I bought after your review of it. It's a great knife, but it's so pretty I can't bring myself to take it out of the safe. 5d Sheepdog Nutn: "I wouldn't EDC this blade... not in rule of law". I didn't expect to be saying this in 2020, but some of us might be EDC'ing this blade today. I live in the greater Seattle area and if I were somehow forced to go into the city of Seattle I would have to weigh the benefit vs. the risk. Of course Seattle is anti-self defense and has knife laws against it. While they will allow Antifa and BLM to terrorize the city, they would love to prosecute for essentially exercising our natural and 2nd amendment rights. 1 5d Tacticaldoodle I'd be terrified of leaving my freedom to a seattle jury. Maybe get real good at juking and sprinting with whatever you carry day to day? It is crazy how tough it is to run with most CCW get ups. 5d Load reply Jared Strawn I’d edc it. I have the gerber strong arm for my kit knife. 2 5d Bretti Andrettski I have the gerber strong arm as well for my BOK, it's a workhorse for sure, but it's also adding too much weight. So subject to change if I can come across a lighter equivalent . Manix 2 dark blue is an awesome EDC, always in top 5 rotation, I gotta mix it up. Always more knives out there 5d So Happy to Gaylor I could totally see EDCing the Street Beat. I currently EDC a custom, locally made 3.25" fixed blade with leather sheath. It is 7.5 oz, but being a gift from my father-in-law and second kind of cool make it worth it to me. Brandon Gaylor 5d Jordan Parker I've never been drawn to fixed blade knives, but this one has my interest... I love seeing the Manix mentioned, the Manix 2 Lightweight is my favorite EDC because it can cover so many philosophies of use. I was introduced to that knife by Nutn's Spyderco catalog walkthrough several years ago, so thank you! 5d David Elkins I’ve had the itch to add a Bowie since I first saw the street Bowie at blade hq. Resisting the urge since I have a couple of gerber strong arms and no real “need”. 5d Ryan Rocco So sick. I’ve honestly never been much of a fixed blade guy... but I think I need this in my life. I’m pretty much a Spyderco loyalist after falling in love with my Endura 4. 5d Sam Robinson The P38 is one of the best looking planes ever made IMO. Awesome!!! 4d Harold Galen McPheron Now I want one... 4d Nick Campbell Street beat really speaks to my aesthetics. Maybe I’ll leave one under the tree for myself later this year. 1 3d Daniel A. Herb Cool set of knives. Ill pass for now tho, saving up for those TNP specials 2h"

Just stop with the washer mod. I’m so down with zip ties but the washer mod just takes it too far to make an Emerson out of every blade and its not!

      WARNING ! ⚠ WARNING ! ⚠
Many evil politicians are trying to make the '666 mark of the beast' money slavery system a world-wide law !
Be careful when taking advice from people pushing Silver or Gold as a safe investment. They often use circular reasoning.
I keep waiting for Jeremiah Babe's channel to respond to my messages of historical evidence about Silver & Gold problems.
The corrupted politicians have attacked us with the Coronavirus deception, attacked us with shutting down many businesses & companies and are now planning on attacking us with food shortages and violence.
THE SOLUTION TO THE U.S.A. DEBT & COVID-19 FEAR BASED SCAM IS IN MY MESSAGE HERE:
      Watch the video called
'THE MONEY MASTERS' by Bill Still.
Then also watch the video called 'THE SECRET OF OZ' by Bill Still.
Then you will know what action we must take when organized !
Give me thoughts about the two videos after you watch them.
I know what will completely get rid of the U.S.A. debt, but many of us have to demand this from the politicians (our public servants).
If the politicians won't listen then the military has the right to defend the U.S.A. against "all threats, foreign and DOMESTIC" !
      * Please watch the 2 videos I recommended to you first, then we will talk.
⚠ Maybe we should STOP focusing so much on non-essential distractions and START focusing on who controls the money system.

THE LOSS OF CONFIDENCE IN THE U.S.A. DOLLAR CAUSES VALUE LOSS IN THE U.S.A. DOLLAR !
People, please stop talking negative about the U.S.A. dollar.
Yes, most of us agree that the dollar would be better if the privately owned Federal Reserve business would be replaced with Congress taking back their Constitutional right to print the dollar again as they did before the year 1913.
      * Please watch the video documentary called, 'THE MONEY MASTERS' by Bill Still.
The U.S. dollar currency has value in most countries on this earth because modern day technology has made it almost impossible to counterfeit. Gold and Silver can be easily counterfeited !
It costs many thousands of dollars to own a machine that accurately tests Gold and Silver for counterfeits.
      * I personally own a little Gold and Silver as a novelty.
By you and others criticizing the U.S.A. dollar pushes us faster towards a One World Order cashless digital currency money slavery system !
Please research past history from many hundreds of years ago on how Gold and Silver was made scarce by corrupt politicians.
When Gold & Silver is made scarce it causes many, many problems.
Send all the corrupt politicians that got the U.S.A in debt to communist China to have them pay off the debt in the China slave labor prisons !
      * President Trump can create an Executive Order to wipe out the U.S.A. debt.
Then allow Congress their Constitutional right to print non-debt based money again as they did before the year 1913.
The words 'FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE' will then be replaced with the words 'UNITED STATES NOTE' back on our cash.
If Congress does not do this soon we are going to be in a lot of trouble ! !
Why isn't President Trump taking action by implementing this ?
This would truly help "make America great again!"
I and many other American's are not afraid of the corrupt Federal Reserve bank. "We The People" are the government. The U.S. Constitution clearly explains this! The politicians are our public servants. WE SHOULD NEVER BE AFRAID TO FIGHT FOR THE TRUTH ! ! !
Watch the historical video documentary called
'THE SECRET OF OZ' by Bill Still.
It explains that Gold and Silver have been made scarce by banks that resulted in depressions and many other serious problems. This fact has happened often in many countries.
Most people need to fine tune their critical thinking skills and research abilities.
~DNA ALTERING VACCINES & THE COMING CONTROLLED MONEY SLAVERY SYSTEM~
LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY TO WHAT Jeremiah Babe said over 5 weeks ago on his UA-cam channel .....
He said, "The prices of GOLD and SILVER are manipulated !"
Please research past history from many hundreds of years ago on how Gold and Silver was made scarce by corrupt politicians.
When Gold & Silver is made scarce it causes many, many problems.
*Now, I want you all to think carefully about the logical conclusion here.
The evil elitist that manipulate the prices of Gold & Silver can make a new law that says you can't "buy or sell" with Gold, Silver or Cash.
Their new form of "money" will be a computer chip in your "right hand or forehead" that can be scanned just like your bank debit cards at all stores.
How many of you have 7 years of food stored up in your houses or in your apartments or on your property ?
Why would anybody invest or put their trust in Gold & Silver that is manipulated by very evil people ?
Question, how many of you will be willing to trade your guns and ammo in for food and medicines?
How many are going to let themselves and their family members go hungry to the point of starvation by NOT accepting the new 666 "beast" money system ?
How many of you will allow yourselves or family members suffer with an injury because you refuse to have the injury treated at your local walk-in clinic or hospital that only accepts a computer chip in the "right hand or forehead" ?
"Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?
They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood."
      ~HOLY BIBLE, Psalms 94:20, 21
      ⚠ WARNING ⚠
      URGENT MEDICAL INTEL
The politicians that have given themselves over to evil have been destroying people's health for many years.
*New Coronavirus vaccine is a 'Trojan horse' ....
The CDC and CIA are using fear based psyops manipulation to persuade citizens into taking the new toxic Coronavirus vaccine.
This new vaccine has a delayed disease creating effect in the human body. 💉

So about the "washer mod" I know the zip-tie is quick/cheap/easy, but I wonder...wouldn't epoxy work as well and even out close to cost wise, assuming you mixed up a batch and did several blades at ones.
Granted you can't take the epoxy mod version OFF without a mess & hassle.
I'm just thinking over a smoother look and still giving you more to open the blade up faster.

What I found to be the best way, for me, to tighten up a loose zip tie in a Spidey whole is simply more zip ties! I just stack a bunch of micros zip ties behind one full size and they eventually squeeze it into place as tight as can be. Very durable, very light.

Love anything Fred does. Things like a change purse that when full turns into a SAP. Probably get it on a plane even. The handle design works so good I use it on some of my homemade knives. Off body carry is ideal for the big SBs with a cord so if you grab it the sheath stays with the bag. Same for the little SB but in your pocket. Get rid of all the clips etc and just toss it in a pocket with a cord to your belt.

Yeah I absolutely love both these! I have 1 bowie and 2 beats. One beat with a plastic handle and the other in that beautiful g10. Wish they'd make the larger version like that.
But ... I was grappling in my BDU's with thE street bowie on and it came out! And it had a razor sharp edge from my edge pro on it. Pretty scarry. I had one made my LT Write and it came out good. Wish i could post a pic of it on here but the things rock solid and has a slide that you can slide up and make it nearly impossible to draw.

Word of warning on those sheaths - while carrying it vertically I had my Street Bowie fall out and get me right in the wrist. Not deep luckily, but it hurt like a mother and that was the last time I carried it that way. Fantastic blade overall, and maybe I got a lemon, but just a warning.

Street beat LW feels really good in hand and it has been the dullest factory edge Spyderco for me so far. It does slice paper, but the end of the slice ends in tear most often. Below are comparisons to other factory edges I've handled:
Street Beat LW: Slices paper somehow, does not shave hair, VG-10
Cara Cara 2: Slices paper well, does not shave hair. 8Cr13MoV
Dragonfly 2: Slices paper well, hairs get shaved moderately. VG-10
Resilience: Slices paper very easily, shaves hair, 8Cr13MoV

After years of watching I buy a lot of knives on Nutnfancy recommendation. My two that I find myself carrying the most are scout carry. I literally can’t feel it and it doesn’t scare me about coming open in my pocket. Bradford guardian and the Benchmade canyon hunter with the black sheath. It is THE best scout carry sheath I’ve ever used. Sits right along my belt.
Why don’t more companies make sheaths that use the leather straps built into the sheath. Not snaps. I wish this spyderco had a sheath like the canyon hunter.

I would have put it out with an option for an upgraded CPM S110V steel as well as the standard VG-10. I think the spider hole on the blade is a pointless weak spot to add to the blade but it is a nice designed knife anyway.

That is being hopeful at best and would not fare well in litigation. 80% percent of people shot below the neck with pistol calibers survive. Similar to this the most effective and lethal knife based defense is a 6 to 8 inch blade with repeated stabs. "Defanging the snake" is a myth, the human body has evolved over millions of years to stop its own bleeding and maintain locomotion after catastrophic injury. But hey it looks cool on the internet so it must work, just like dudes that shoot close retention demos real fast at 4 yards being "firearms instructors"

I prefer the Spyderco Province, it uses CPM 4V, a much superior steel. Perfect for pretty much every occasion except , of course, EDC.

Switched to the S35VN ESEE 3 for EDC and doubt I’ll ever switch. I have it IWB and it’s invisible under a tshirt. It’s a heck of a lot of knife to have on the belt.

I have a hard time spending a 100 bucks on a Taiwan blade. Idk rather have USA or japan. But those are hard to find at a reasonable price.

    • @nutnfancy
      @nutnfancy  3 роки тому

If you can get a good japanese blade they almost seem to be a good investment. If I had to guess they'll become increasingly rare, if you bet on the right model they can gain some collectibility once they're out of stock. -Doodle

I have found, that the building of aircraft models, can be quite absorbing, and enjoyable.. Requires effort and skill to create an accurate model.. Not the same as collecting diecast kiddie toys.. Hey Nutn, why don't ya join us in the combat arenas.. Stack yourself up against other Digital pilots.. MAKE WAR, using the most badass planes and tanks of WW2.. A TNP squadron would be kinda cool.. I'd join up, have MANY kills under my belt.. Fighter squad ops are on Friday night, Doodle could be your wingman!

6'4" or so, IIRC he gets XXL tall, so it's kinda doable depending on how clingy the fabric is. For your average camp shirt, poly button up, it's drapey enough to hang without clinging to the forms of your carry gear. -Doodle
