I bought several of Fred Perrin knives -- outstanding guy and talented designer. Fine review.
Great! Looking at his six inch "Le Bowie."
Factory edge needed sharpening. It felt like it had been sharpened with P1200. It did cut paper somehow. Dullest Spyderco I've handled so far. It had wider (4mm) tang though. Really easy to sharpen. The best part of the knife is the ergonomy. And no, I don't mean your normal good Spyderco ergonomy. What I mean is:
-Practice deploying your knife.
-Watch a movie.
-Have the knife sheathed next to you or on belt.
-Every time someone in the movie says words AND or THE, deploy the knife into posture as fast as possible.
-You will not have fine motor skills at your disposal.
-You will just end up grabbing the knife in panic and hassle.
-9 times out of 10 it works perfectly with this knife.
-Time spent: half a second.
-That's ergonomics.
Note: if you grab sheath with your other hand, never put sheath hand's index finger into the finger choil between knife and sheath. It will lead to nasty cut when the edge unsheathes against your finger. This never happens in carry, only if you grab sheath with your other hand if the knife is not in carry.
interesting
Great idea! I'll be using this deployment method in the future. Thanks
That's a good no BS design. I have one of Fred's knives. It's a La Griffe. I like his designs and he's a cool guy.
I have micarta discontinued version, I did acidstonewash on blade. Nice little fixed blade.
Great look at this fixed blade. I've expressed how much I like this knife before in comment sections. Not buying anything now due to income interruption but it's on my list.
I love Perrin's designs! I have a handmade Perrin street Bowie. I want to get both Spyderco versions.
Great look at this knife. I’ve always wanted one for these. I love Perrin’s knives!
Thanks Bob! Glad you enjoyed... 👍🗡️😁
I got one a month ago the factory edge was ok but after a sharpen and alot of cutting and carrying I just love this knife. Prior to this I carried a spyderco enuff leaf point when edging a fixed blade but this carries alot easier due to the handle being so much shorter.
Very helpful review, thanks very much for this.
Glad it was helpful!
New model to me. Good looking little fixed blade. Would definitely make a great edc. Great review 👍
Thanks! 🗡️👍🗡️
Ooh. I like the looks of her.
Might have to pick one up. Wish is had s30v though.
Of course, very similar to the somewhat larger Italian made Bastinelli RED (another fantastic blade).
In some ways, yes 👍
Badass,looking
I just got the Spyderco Street Beat lightweight and blade length is exactly the same as Coldsteel Mini Tac Bowie except for Spydercos handle which is 0.5 inch more. Never figured the 2 knives would be the same blade length !
Interesting, I'll have to measure it against a Mini Tac I've got around somewhere. 👍🗡️👍
Great video, thanks mate, I may well invest in one for my Spyderco collection, one thing that maybe puts me off is the visible seam where the 2 handle parts join, I wish that was smoother out in manufacture or a 1 piece handle, I’m sure I will get one though as do want a fixed in my collection, thanks 🗡️👍🏻
Has held up quite well. For this level of blade, a negligible mould line is cosmetic and should have absolutely no impact. If I paid custom money it would be another matter. 🗡️👊👍
I have the Perrin Street Bowie in scout carry right now.....
I have older version which is in my eyes much better than new version.
I really like the look of the backup, and hollow grinds are great for some tasks, but its too bulky. It's a great candidate for a chop mod.
Yeah I covered the Civivi Backup in another vid. This one's on the street beat... Lol 😆
Really like the design. It has a resemblance to a smaller Bastinelli RED V2 w a simplified grip contour.
True, Bastien has been heavily influenced by his fellow designer, Martial artist, and countryman, Fred Perrin.
@@OGBladeReviews That's some great inside baseball I wasn't privy to. One of the many reasons people enjoy your channel.
Thanks for watching! 🗡️👍
@@adubs3851 I belive we can still find on yt movies where Fred and Bastien are testing knives, but videos are in french.
Just wish they had a trainer for this!
Always learn something watching your reviews. Without your combative experience, other reviewers would have butchered this and other knives knowing nothing about why a knife was produced or who created it. Learning to be more conscious of deep finger guards in knives from now on. LOL.
Thanks very much. It's certainly a simple, and effective design. Fred Perrin knows his stuff! 🗡️👍😁
Might have to break my no coatings stance for this one. Thanks Dave.
Thanks! Pretty wear resistant, though. 😁🗡️👍
My sentiments exactly.👍🏻
Nice looking .never knew it existed
Yes, out for quite a while. Very useful and carry-able. 😁🗡️
Spyderco is really great about sending catalogs. I’m old-fashioned and I appreciate that. It’s the best way to stay up on what the company is doing. I order one every year👍🏻
I sure would like to see sal start running these in lc200n like that new lil subway Bowie
I love the shape but everything else is better on the Bradford guardian nimbus 3.75 full tang etc
That looks like a nice blade, but anytime we're talking "better than," I have to ask, for what? For me the Street Beat locks in extremely well with that very deep finger groove and excellent ergos. It's purpose designed by Fred Perrin as a go-to EDC and last ditch weapon. Personally, I'd need to work with both to make any final determination. Thanks for watching and your comments. 👍🗡️👍
@@OGBladeReviews That's true. I meant the construction and specs of the Bradford guardian 3.5 is preferable in a combat scenario, however I like the SB shape better.
Is the handle slippery?
Slightly, but not when dry. Lot of users put hockey tape on for extra grip
Awesome, thank you!
The value on this blade is off the charts even at its current $115...I could do without the pointless S-curve...
The "spidey hole" is not a "spidey hole". It's a lashing point, hence the full-length jimping on the tang and secondary lashing point pommel-side of the hilt. Holds fast to any pole or staff if wrapped tightly to make an effective, improvised spear.
😁 OKAY
Wrong! It's a Spydey Hole!
@@ericsierra-franco7802wrong.! Its not.!
No serrations, aghhhhh🤯
Do they make the Street Beat with serrations???
