I would have loved to see this film. I still have to see this series I have so much respect for it being one of the biggest groundbreaking anime series in history.
Damn shame the production company went bankrupt. What we could have had. No need for an American remake. Just overdub English. I woulda been happy with it. That was amazing what we say.
Alas, what might have been. I am convinced that most of us who got the "remixed for American television" series back in '78 would not at all have "WTF?"d at the finished film in this vein. It is the handful of us, though, who would actually know the Japanese for "Thank you for one hell of a ride."
I always like the scene where the God Phoenix rises up to make face the opposing ship. Its almost like she's alive and being protective over her brood, down to the sound of her engines, sounds like a Bird protectively cooing over it's chicks. Really wish they had produced this, sigh...
@troyskeete8372 That observation could have opened a way for Ryu to assert, "There is something alive in there," or show some uncanny awareness of the ship's systems.

there will be a live action version, staring that guy who played Takeru Shiba (Shinken Red) as Ken. Still this might have been fun, but it could also have gone the way of the Astro Boy CGI film...

Look...it will never be the series i grew up watching back in the late 70's, but I am glad they are making it for the new Generations! im also happy that they made Astro Boy. +slashermaster28 Or maybe they should have led with this instead of Astro Boy and this company might still be around...and we wouldn't have been subjected to the horrible live action movie of Gatchaman that I saw a few months ago.
TMNT was Great!, Astro Boy was ok, but this just looked Amazing! So sad it didn't happen instead Japan made another live action failure, andmore anime that have nothing to do with the original
I'm sad as well, but there's a good reason. Films like "Astro Boy", the 98 Godzilla movie and "Dragon Ball Evolution" all demonstrated how Western media companies just don't get it when it comes to adapting Japanese properties. But on a positive note, the incredi-freakin'-awesome "Space Battleship Yamato" live action film demonstrated how their big-budget film industry can blow Hollywood out of the water when they put their mind to it.
Actually, Astro Boy is pretty great. Although to be fair, Astro Boy is a bit too "play-it-safe". Whilst it does have its risk-taking moments, there could have been more. If Gatchaman were to come out, it is very likely that Gatchaman would *NOT* make the same mistake that Astro Boy made.
I interested to see this, personally they can't do any worst than that live action GI Joe movie; Gatchaman and Tekkaman were my favorites of the Tatsunoko's super heroes.
Imagi studio death still hurts me, they where so different to all US animated studios, and their films where a breath of fresh air, compared with Pixar, Disney and Dreamworks, now days Sony is probably the only one dares to try other than the "pixar" style of animated films. So sad now if we see any of these will be by the hands of Illumination....or a Hollywood hack that prefer to do it in live action, casting with the SJW diversity crap now days we see studios need to do, or just put the story in CHINA because they want Chinese money.....we live in the sad time line, instead of this badass amazing Gatchaman.....we got Gatchaman Crowds T.T
@@skinnyweenie8679 Actually, Imagi has way more potential nowadays. Disney and Pixar are making soulless cash grabs nowadays. Imagi Studios would rather push boundaries of animation than pull them.
@Kusanagikaiser999 I agree. Imagi Studios truly has potential. Sure, I am cool with Illumination Entertainment, but that studio is way too "play-it-safe". Astro Boy is also too "play-it-safe", but at least it has its moments. Gatchaman would have likely rectified the error, by taking more huge leaps.
