Im new to baitcasters. Will this be able to use like what a spinning baitrunner VS regular? I dont want to rely on loosening and retightening the drag evrytime i hook a fish.if not, Is there any other Shimano reels that have this feature that im after?
It's nothing like a spinning reel. The spool moves freely, so it takes a lot of practice to cast without backlash, but they are more sensitive than spinners when using bait.
@@fishermen22 i think u didnt get my question.lol.... Im asking if the baitcasters have a function like "Baitrunner" in a spinning. And what is this feature called in a baitcaster so i can find one. Is it the lever drag type bait asters that can be used in a similar function lik Baitrunner? Is this type of feature called something else? What am i missing here... Fyi, im wanting one for Catfish, thats why. Im not after a cheap Abu Garcia catfish reel either, i want quality.
@@mryang3644 You can put the reel in free spool where the lever drag is disengaged but you can run the risk of spool over run and backlash. You can put it slightly in gear but there's going to be some slight tension on the line. Finally, you can use the clicker while in free spool to prevent over run. It's not like a baitrunner were you can set it and forget it. It's meant for light trolling and southern California live bait fishing.
@@fishermen22 cool. Thnx. I think i can make it work then. I can deal with the lever, its quick to engage, i just cant deal with off and on wit the drag... Thats how i have used my spinning reels before getting an actual baitrunner. Losen, grab the spool to hook, then tighten up the drag.Too much work😃
Is there reason why they make these reels without level winds? Is there advantage of not having it or are they just keeping it more nostalgic by maintaining the old conventional style model?
Dude Dude Good question, I think big game fishing reels usually don’t have level winds. This is definitely a small big game reel. The larger version wouldn’t work well with level winds.
@@fishermen22 level winds slow down the spool when lines going through them so higher end reels domt have them in order to increase casting capability and to cut down on the weight of the reel
400....I just nearly spent 500.
Hello friend is convenient the Shimano TVC58XXH Trevala Jigging Casting Rod for 8II??
I’d probably go with a bigger reel. The Talica 8II is better for 20-50 lb braid.
@@fishermen22 tks friend

Level winds can break on a big fish hence why most serious game fishing reels don't have them
The lighter reels have level winds. You have to thumb the line on the spool, and there are less moving parts to breakdown.
