Some people still have issues with the Talica reels. One such issue is the absence of the Stainless Steel gears and the of presence Brass gears typically found in lower end reels. Another issue is that people can not justify the asking price of the Talica reels with so little given in features unlike other brands. It is also believed that Shimano has committed highway robbery charging the amount they do for the Talica reels. Cheers for the review, it has helped a lot :-)
Glad someone finally made a video about this reel, love mine!! Wanna see you catch some fish with it! I’ve caught a Spanish Mack and a shark with mine.
That’s awesome Wade!! I’m glad I did this review because it’s a lot of reel for the price. I still haven’t used it because of rough seas, but can’t wait to get tight on it.
Great review on that Wayne, looks like a perfect reel for the ocean fisherman. Can’t wait to see some fish caught on it. Looks like you’ve been a good boy this year. Merry Christmas pal.
Nice review, looks like a good reel! My friend says you guys are having some real schitt for weather down there. I bet you can't wait to try it out! Tight Lines Wayne, go catch ya some!
Yeah definitely can’t wait to hook in to some Sails with it. The weather has sucked. Get my boat back and it goes to crap. Typical winter months though.
@@CProFishingWithWayne , good morning.. I fish in your area ( Palm Beach) and looking for new trolling reels.. What are your thoughts on the talica 20? Man that Speedmaster would be perfect for our big Blue Cats, 40 inch's on the retrieve is great. My cheap ass has been buying old Penn 85's off Ebay for our catfishing rigs. (I love the old Penn Reels)
CPro Fishing I think they’re going to be great, no complaints with the Talica 2, not going to be that much difference with 4 bearings vs 6 bearings. They have all metal bodies and frame. They’re cheaper cause they are cast body and frame vs machined for Talica. I don’t see them lasting less than 20 years or longer, as long as you wash them when you’re done and oil the appropriate spots. They will be on point for bottom fishing and trolling action on the big blue. They will be able to handle just about anything you can catch. If I didn’t already have 5 reels I would get a couple of the 20 size ones.
Soooo, now that you have had it a few months hows it holding up? I’m in the market for a new reel and was comparing this reel to the Avet AvetMXJ6/4RH-SI 2 Speed Right Handed. -Capt Dan
Haven’t used the Avet but you can’t go wrong with the speed master. It’s light and the strong drag is so damn smooth. It the nicest feeling reel I’ve ever owned and the price point is awesome. I’m planning on getting two more in the new size 20.
I think they’ll work well. Mono or braid? Line capacity might be low on the mono. I was planning on more tackle reviews soon. I currently troll TLD 25s also but have power handles. Appreciate you watching.
@@CProFishingWithWayne Probably Braid with Mono topshot. There two other sizes of the speedmaster coming out at icast this year. I love my Torium 16 PG on my Okuma jigging rod for bottom fishing/jigging, the power handle nis really nice for cranking and the lower gear ratio.
Unfortunately just as with Talica, internals are good for a few years of service but the foot mount fails miserably as does the exterior weather proofing seals which causes quick erosion of the low quality bearings. Accurate reels charge a premium but the build is almost heirloom level. If you're a weekend warrior and can service your reels reasonably well the Shimano will do you well for some time, if you're out there 100+ days a year look elsewhere. I’ve never used more than 30 and that’s on Sharks several hundred pounds. It wears you out fast. When you’re trying to get Grouper away from a wreck you need it.
Casual Carolina Fishing Make sure you have really good knots cause when you hit full drag @40 lbs, and you pinned to a rail with a grouper, shit happens, I had my 12VISX locked on about 30 lbs of drag last summer using 80lb braid with 100 lb flouro leader, drag held perfect, knot not so. Wash a good fight for a while.
Think of a ten speed bike going up a hill. It’s much easier to pedal but you have you’ll have to do a bunch more turns of the pedals to get the same amount of distance
It’s really good, but you have to make sure the tension is good especially with braid. You don’t want to backlash braid. It’s very lightweight which is good for casting.
Absolutely. It’s light and casts very well. I would use mono though as casting with braid on conventional reels sucks. If you’re fishing in big surf where it’s gonna get dunked I wouldn’t recommend it.

What made you choose the 16 over the 12?
I prefer a wider reel in case you’re in a good fight and not paying attention to the line staying fairly even on the reel. Also the extra capacity.

It’s a winner especially for the money.

is this a good reel for slow pitch jigging? if not what is the best shimano reel for slow pitch jigging?
Yes, it can be used for slow jigging paired with a speedmaster jigging rod. The shimano ocea reel is designed specifically for it though
How has it lasted for you and do you recommend it
It’s still like new and I love it.
Very nice
Thank you
What knot did you use when connecting the braid to mono when spooling the reel?
Uni to uni
I’m interested to know what kind of drag scale your using in your video.
You can use any scale you would weigh a fish with. It’s more accurate if you have a second person pulling from the rod and not directly to the reel.
Berkley makes a nice on with a hold feature. That’s how I set drag on my reels.
Seven pounds? Wow! No yanking or anything!
