I work at a harbor freight, and lately we've upgraded most Hercules and a few Bauer power tools... including going brushless. Would be curious to see an updated comparison
My Milwaukee batteries didn't even last a year. I got some knockoff Amazon batteries which have been good but even those were expensive. I really like the Bauer battery price
Bauer wasnt around or was still corded when i got my brushless drill, and driver set. Now i got their multitool, circular saw, blower, hackzall, grinder, all came with free battery. The grinder, i needed the high output battery for blower, circular saw. Multitool smooth as butter, blower is a beast for the last four years. But, milwaukee was first to be brushless, their tools are better, some in comfort, some in power. I guess im a fan, but it does make me enjoy working.
I use dewalt cordless tools on my job sites , but I have started using some Bauer cordless tools for home use simply because of price and have not been disappointed with any of the Bauer cordless tools.
I have several Dewalt cordless tools, but I need a 4½" circular saw TODAY. I'm headed to HF for this tool as I slowly move over to Bauer tools myself. I bought a Bauer drill last year and was amazed at how well it worked. Harbor Freight has really upped their game with tools. I used to buy only hand tools at HF that I could throw away after one use. My motto was "Never buy anything with a cord attached" at HF. My opinion has changed as HF's tools have changed. Watch out SnapOn, Dewalt, Milwaukee, Ryobi, and the rest. There's a new sheriff in town!
Tom, I love your Harbor Freight videos! I like building things but only really do it a few times a year. So, I don't want to invest a lot of money into the tools I use. I love your videos since they show me how much I can save from buying "name brand" tools that I use maybe 2 or 3 times a year!
Bauer got my attention when I bought their DA polisher over 4 years ago for my detailing business. I now run 5 crews each with at least 2 Bauer polishers on deck and I haven’t had to replace any of them. I also do home remodeling on the weekends trying to learn a new trade so my arsenal of Bauer tools has grown. Gets the job done and if anything we’re to break, replacing a tool won’t require a loan
I was given a Milwaukee impact driver with two 5.0ah batteries as a gift. I previously owned Ridgid tools but only had 2.0ah batteries for them. I wanted to own one platform only, as I hate having multiple battery types and chargers to deal with, so I sold my Ridgid stuff. Me being OCD, I want my tools to be red and black to match the Milwaukee theme. I just realized you can buy adapters that will allow me to use my Milwaukee batteries on Bauer and Craftsman tools! Also, I can buy Bauer and Craftsman batteries and use them on my Milwaukee tools. I was so glad to find videos showing how well these adapters work. Now, I just started buying Bauer tools because they're so much more affordable than the Milwaukee versions. I'm not a contractor, just a home wood workers / DIYer, so Bauer and Craftsman work more than well enough for me. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for Watching and for the feedback Joshua! I seen some adapters but have not seen one that allows Milwaukee batteries on Bauer. I need to look, that is cool
Did you know Ridgid and Ryobi are owned by TTI, Milwaukee's parent company? they pretend to be competing brands but they're not. They also own Hart tools sold at Walmart.
That's why I switched from Makita to Ryobi. Admittedly with a small Makita inventory. But the 3 AH battery is on sale at HD for $49 right now. And Ryobi has some very cool tools, of which I have broken only one, the sawsall. And I really worked it hard to break it.
Ryobi 18 Volt vs. Bauer 20 Volt. That and the cost of the tools, batteries and chargers are the reason I decided to try the Bauer Brand. I personally love the amount of Bauer Tools I can add to my tool arsenal. I only have the Drill, charger, battery and the Circular Saw, charger, and a medium sized battery. The tools have worked really well so far and I built a large deck and covered patio over it for using with my live in RV. I also used some really hard lumber that I obtained free from a business that was throwing away the lumber. Project turned out well and the Bauer Cordless 20 Volt Tool System performed like a champ. I highly recommend you try this brand, especially if you live on a fixed income like myself.
Just recently been getting into Bauer and their stuff is great! Especially since they have been moving into brushless more lately I am all for it. The deals they have sometimes are crazy! Picked up a 5AH battery and a 3/8 brushless impact for 75 bucks!
I work as a maintenance mechanic and have the drill and impact driver. Each set was about 65 bucks. Got a charger and battery with a case for each. 120 bucks I got something that's been very useful. They get covered in sand and wax and still seem to be working well.
Here’s the major price difference and why I myself like Milwaukee brand tools over harbor freight. My first deciding factor was the warranty....HF only offers 90 days (unless you purchase the extended warranty which maxes out at 2 years) meanwhile Milwaukee you get a 5 year warranty on the tool and a 3 year warranty on the batteries. Secondly HF only offers tools that are brushed while Milwaukee has been fully converting over to brushless platform (motors run cooler, faster and more torque plus no brushes to wear out!) so yes the price may be “cheaper” but you get what you pay for. And I know the “I can buy X amount of drills before I come close to the price of Milwaukee” but I have yet to break a Milwaukee tool but I have broken my fair share of harbor freight tools just working around my house... but hey to the very occasional use harbor freight does it’s job well....
Thanks for Watching Andy! Thanks for sharing your thoughts... I’ve had Bauer in my Home Shop for over a year now, and I haven’t had an issue. Time will tell though and I truly appreciate your feedback, Thank you!
I’d like to point out a few things everyone neglects to mention with harbor freight warranty, it’s renewable! So at the end of the two years or say at 18 months, you return the tool to the store, no questions asked, (no other tool warranty is this easy) then get your free replacement, or your money back. If you get a new tool, you buy another warranty! Additionally I’d like to point out, all these other warranties people talk about are really difficult to utilize when you need to, even the ridged stuff can’t just go back to Home Depot for warranty, it has to go to a service center, harbor freight walk in the store, plop it on the counter, go get a new tool!
The brushed vs. brushless argument is mostly invalid. Nearly EVERY corded tool is..... BRUSHED. They last DECADES. I have had many BRUSHED cordless tools (including a 25 year old Dewalt that still works) and never had any issues. That takes care of 'wearing out'. Cooler, faster, more torque.... well, I've never, EVER been drilling a hole, driving a screw or anything else involving a cordless tool thinking.. "Geez, I really wish that would have taken 2 seconds less." or " Man, if only I had a brushless drill so I could drive 23 more screws before swapping battery packs. Yes, it's true that brushless runs cooler and has more torque compared to equivalent motors but, is it really NEEDED? the short answer is no. In very few cases, if any would it make a real world difference. For 99.9% of cordless tool users, a brushed unit is just fine. FWIW, Hilti (biggest industrial cordless tool manufacturer) still mostly makes brushed tools. If you rent any Hilti tools, they will most likely be brushed. Theres' a reason they don't use brushless motors. As for warranty... I love the fact that HF gives you the OPTION to save the money on the warranty or to purchase it seperately. With the 'big' brands, you pay for it no matter what.
Tom, it seems you and I are on a similar path. I've just started to swap out all my corded and cordless tools to the Bauer line. Like you've found, I have been blown away by the quality for the money. I have the drill, circular saw, 1/2 impact, orbital sander, light, usb charger, rapid charger and the chemical sprayer (which by the way is AWESOME! I use it for weed killer, no more hand pumping a bottle!) I still have my eye on the vacuum, 1/4 impact, grinder, fan, jjg saw and heat gun. I hear there will also be a 20v hot glue gun and shop vac style wet/dry vac as well as an oscillating tool! I have already also bought more batteries than I'll ever need :) Thanks for the videos, keep em coming!
I invested in the Bauer drill/driver a few years ago to set screws into cement board. The impact driver quit last year, and the drill quit a few months ago. Took it apart. Nothing wrong. Put it back together and now everything works again. Go figure! Picked up a fan and a couple 5ah batteries last year. Great for sleeping during the summer. Last Spring, I added the 2000 lumen flood light. I had to make an emergency roof repair at night about 4 weeks ago when a un-forecast storm blew in. The light paid for itself right there. I enjoyed the video. I didn't know about some of the tools shown. Looking to add to my collection because of my battery (4) & charger (2) investment. Would like to add the hand planer, but the reviews didn't impress me.
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ HF has the planer on clearance this week. Grabbed one yesterday. Burns through a 5ah battery in under 15 minutes. The adjustment knob (1/128th) seemed accurate, so it will come in handy with a sharp blade. Also grabbed the 20v orbital sander with 20% off this week.
I have most of the Bauer 20v line, and can agree that for most DIYers these tools will do the job. I also have most of the Porter Cable 20v line, and would say the Bauer 20v is generally at least as good, if not even that it outperforms. Tool for tool both the Bauer and Porter Cable 20v tools are close in price....Porter Cable seems slightly higher at times. Porter Cable, though, seems to have quit developing new tools for their 20v - part of the reason I'm now in the Bauer line. As you say it's the battery price, this is where the major difference comes in. A 4ah Porter Cable is like $100, whereas I've gotten 5ah on sale for about $50 on the Bauer. Yesterday I used the Bauer pole saw (something Porter Cable doesn't have for their line), and cut down 8 very large bundles of limbs and it worked very well.
My only issue with the Bauer brand is the lack of customer support. I had an impact that the bit retainer broke. It's basically a spring and a ball barring that holds the bit in, like 99% of other 1/4in impact drivers on the market. I was using it and the collar came loose and I lost that ball bearing. I could not buy a replacement parts from Bauer. The impact was out of warranty and I knew that goin in, however, I made it very clear I was willing to buy the parts and was still told no. Ended up going to Walmart and getting a cheap ratcheting screwdriver to rob the ball bearing from it to fix the impact.
Who needs replacement parts or a warranty. As long as the same model is currently sold, just buy a new one, save the receipt, clean up the old one a tad, put it back in the box the new one came in, return to store as defective, get your money back - BOOM! Warranty replacement done easy!
I switch from Ryobi to Bauer and I love it I have the jigsaw half inch impact stubby corded grinder four and a half inch absolutely awesome Love them all affordable batteries I just can't validate that much money for Milwaukee with the value I get with Bauer
I've had DeWalt 18v drills and a spotlight for over 10 years. Their batteries are CRAP, lasting maybe a year with very light use. I've had them rebuilt (nicads) at Batteries Plus a couple of times. Those lasted over twice as long. Then the drill came to a smoking halt one day. I found a DeWalt service center in Overland Park, KS, where I lived at the time. Got a new motor and installed it. Worked fine since. I'm so put off on battery powered tools that I don't buy them anymore. But since we share the same last name, I bought a tape measure with my name on it! I now have a Bauer angle grinder (corded) that works great. I'm getting into the mood for more battery misery so when I buy, it will be Bauer. I know, different battery tecnology LiOn vs NiCad so hoping for better results. I don't need the price or the alleged quality of the DeWalts and Milwaukee's of the world. My son-in-law just "upgraded" all of his power tools from Ryobi to Milwaukee. I haven't had the heart to tell him that they are both owned by the same company, which is Techtronics Industries out of Hong Kong. Great vids, Tom. Glad you're out there.
Battery powered I still will have to stick with milwaukee, simply for the fact milwaukee has a much broader selection of available tools. Vacuums, transfer pumps, coats and a lot more
Thank you more people need to learn cheaper doesn't mean junk. They may not be as fast but still do a great job. I work in retail now full time and I'm in the tool department I sell craftsman cuz value and power isn't bad I use then and I use bauer also I was in construction for 20 years and yes the Milwaukee may have more power but for the price the power is not as much for the price.
I have the 1/2 inch 20v drill and it's been great. I gave $70 in-store because I needed a cordless drill on a job with no power access. I'm looking at buying the big battery and rapid charger along with a few other tools in the near future. I was into Porter Cable and Dewalt pro-grade stuff that isn't sold in home improvement stores when I was in the trades. Now that I am doing mostly DIY projects, Bauer seems to be just as good.
I have both milwaukee and Bauer cordless tools and I have to say the milwaukee batterys will last you 2 or 3 times longer than your bauer batterys that is if your using your tools on a daily just invest in milwaukee now if your just barely using your tools like I did at one time and started with Bauer then thats fine but honestly it was nice saving money on certain bauer tools I didnt wanna spend double on for milwaukee depending on how much I used them
Your experience with battery longevity is strange. Milwaukee and Bauer both use Samsung 18650 cells in their battery packs. They both have battery management systems in the tools and the chargers balance charge the packs in both brands as well. Could it have been a fluke? I've even checked the specific cell models used by both brands and, believe it or not, Bauer typically uses the better Samsung cells. In some cases Milwaukee will use LG cells (they are still good cells) but, they typically don't have as good longevity as Samsung. Curious for sure.
@@CharlesHeitz yes you may be correct but its not only about the battery cells. The other gut parts of the battery are much more higher tech than the Bauer . This is one reason why milwaukee is much better along with there actual tools them self working with the battery is so much more powerful and heavy duty. Another thing is after alot of continuous use Bauer tools I noticed the battery packs would get much hotter than the milwaukee battery which also causes them to not last as long . but you go ahead and invest your money in both brands and see for yourself like I have .
@@tylerwebb1900 I never said you were wrong. I was just asking if the short life of the Bauer battery could have been a fluke. As in, the battery you had may have been slightly off or something. The batteries between the brands are the same. Now HOW they manage the battery is completely different I'm sure. No brand is perfect. For my use case Bauer is more than enough.
Good for you… It’s your $$$ and your choice to buy what you like best.. everyone had different taste and quality… but brands like snap-on, matco, and mac-tool are somewhat over-priced products..
I've owned both... and the Bauer was more than nice and affordable... I switched to 100% Milwaukee once i realised that will watching the deals, and craigslist... you can have the Milwaukee stuff for about the same price, 99% of time NO ONE NEEDS a tool that day, so waiting for when to spring into action is key.... and i'm not talking base Milwaukee I mean the fuel stuff... once you use a fuel impact, you will feel the difference to the Bauer impact.... the drill...uumm... you can feel it but not as much.... the fuel M12 multi tool is like no other, so much smoother than even its base model.... as for the tool chachies like lights and vacs, I look at those as pointless tools.... the USB thing, you can use a mil to bauer adapter.... so yeah.... if your clever enough you can get all this stuff for around the same price....
Makita sometimes has the drill driver two batteries and a charger for $149!! Where is the Boruto would be 85 for just the drill and a battery but no charger!! There would also be no impact driver without spinning another $49!!
Have you got any Hercules stuff yet because they have a 5 year warranty on their brushes tools and 3 year warranties on their chargers and extreme performance batteries now and the price of the tools have come down to where they're either the same or not a whole lot more than the Bauer stuff compared to before when they were a lot more expensive and they didn't have the better warranty like they have now so I already have a lot of the Bauer stuff like you do so I don't plan on getting a lot of the Hercules stuff but so far I do have the Brushless Hammer drill because it has a lot more torque than the Bauer drills but that's the only tool I have so far along with the most basic charger and the 5ah non extreme performance battery from a deal for $99 for the 3 of those things in their Hercules line so the drill has a 5 year warranty, the charger has a 3 year warranty but the battery only has a 90 day warranty because it's not an extreme performance battery so I think the battery is basically like the same as a 5ah Bauer battery inside most likely and I don't think it has any more higher quality cells inside like the extreme performance batteries probably have but I really like Harbor freight and I think they're underrated because they offer a much better value than home depot or whatever else for sure!
Nice Video Review. I'm in with you my friend 💯. I own a drill and a saw and have 2 chargers and a regular battery and a medium battery. I plan on purchasing more of these dependable cordless tools in my future. They are dependable, powerful and versetal. Very much portable and are not over weight when using. I agree about the cost of the batteries. I'm in now with the Bauer Brand. Good bye Ryobi, Rigid, Milwaukee, Maketta and other expensive brand tools. Keep up the great videos my friend. I'm sure there are lots of people out there like us with the same opinions and behaviors, they just don't voice their ideals.
Milwaukee purposely jacks up the price of their tools and batteries full well knowing that they are going to get some people to pay the outrageous prices they ask. Milwaukee is essentially a marketing company that happens to make tools...
this is an older video but we just got our HFT a year or so ago and MAN my wallet hates them! my wife is gonna drown me if i buy any more bauer items ( GET THE NEW GLUE GUN ITS AWESOME!) I BOUGHT THE 1/4 IMPACT THe drill and the glue gun and just got the light this morn for a homeowner who normally just works on the cars/computers its nice to have a good cheap reliable brand instead of corded walmart BS i would love to get on kolbolt but the closet lowes are 25 mins both ways for me i would rather go 10 mins in town and get this shit hassle free returns
They are not in Canada but apparently they do ship to Canada using UPS/FedEx. However, all orders follow the same guidelines as Amazon when it comes to shipping to Canada. I am going to try to order something from them and see what the shipping and duty and exchange etc. will total out to be.
Went to try and order from Harbor Freight but they offer No option to send to Canada. In their help section, they state they only ship to the lower 48 states, not including Alaska or Hawaii. I can assume that Canada would be out of range also.
I work at a harbor freight, and lately we've upgraded most Hercules and a few Bauer power tools... including going brushless. Would be curious to see an updated comparison

Thanks for Watching Tom! I appreciate the feedback!
Battery powered I still will have to stick with milwaukee, simply for the fact milwaukee has a much broader selection of available tools. Vacuums, transfer pumps, coats and a lot more
Thanks for watching! Appreciate the feedback
Tom, how have the Bauer tools held up after 3 years?
Thanks for watching Nick! Still have them, they are working just fine
You can buy an adapter and use the Bauer batteries in the Milwaukee drill.
Thanks for Watching Frank! Haven’t seen those yet….
Thanks for Watching Timothy! I agree
Thanks for Watching Ben! I agree!
I have both milwaukee and Bauer cordless tools and I have to say the milwaukee batterys will last you 2 or 3 times longer than your bauer batterys that is if your using your tools on a daily just invest in milwaukee now if your just barely using your tools like I did at one time and started with Bauer then thats fine but honestly it was nice saving money on certain bauer tools I didnt wanna spend double on for milwaukee depending on how much I used them
Thanks for watching and for the insight Tyler! I agree!
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the feedback
I habe both tje bauer and Hercules and love them both very reliable tools
Thanks for Watching Wayne!
Thanks for watching! I appreciate your feedback
Makita sometimes has the drill driver two batteries and a charger for $149!!
Where is the Boruto would be 85 for just the drill and a battery but no charger!! There would also be no impact driver without spinning another $49!!
Thanks for Watching Zach!
Thanks for watching Charlie! Appreciate the feedback! May need to try some of the Hercules cordless. Thanks for the information
I have all of them from another (green) brand but these Bauer tools looks sturdy! 👍
Thanks for Watching! They do very well! I’ve been impressed!
I agree! Thanks Carl! I appreciate you Watching, commenting and supporting! Thank you!
Price vs usability can’t be beat.
Thanks for watching!
Milwaukee purposely jacks up the price of their tools and batteries full well knowing that they are going to get some people to pay the outrageous prices they ask. Milwaukee is essentially a marketing company that happens to make tools...
Thanks for watching Bob! Appreciate the feedback
this is an older video but we just got our HFT a year or so ago and MAN my wallet hates them! my wife is gonna drown me if i buy any more bauer items ( GET THE NEW GLUE GUN ITS AWESOME!) I BOUGHT THE 1/4 IMPACT THe drill and the glue gun and just got the light this morn for a homeowner who normally just works on the cars/computers its nice to have a good cheap reliable brand instead of corded walmart BS i would love to get on kolbolt but the closet lowes are 25 mins both ways for me i would rather go 10 mins in town and get this shit hassle free returns
Thanks for Watching! I agree!
My Makita 18 volt 3.0ah battery is $110.00. Nice tools but battery cost is stupid!
Thanks for Watching Norman! Is Harbor Freight available to you in Canada?
They are not in Canada but apparently they do ship to Canada using UPS/FedEx. However, all orders follow the same guidelines as Amazon when it comes to shipping to Canada. I am going to try to order something from them and see what the shipping and duty and exchange etc. will total out to be.
Went to try and order from Harbor Freight but they offer No option to send to Canada. In their help section, they state they only ship to the lower 48 states, not including Alaska or Hawaii. I can assume that Canada would be out of range also.
That’s too bad Norman!
I don't buy cheap Milwaukee tools on eBay, marcadi, Etsy, etc. my gut tells me they probably stolen. I bought a Bauer from HF
Thanks for watching!
The hazard fraught tools probably ok for the home gamers. I doubt they would hold up to the daily pounding on a construction site
Thanks for Watching! Lol! Your spelling seems to be off a bit... As a seasoned construction type person, I agree
I use Hercules and work in a shipyard there basically blue dewalts
Thanks for watching! I agree!
Cordless tools are like printers. The tools (aka printers) are cheap it’s the batteries (aka ink) are expensive
Thanks for Watching! I agree!
All the milwaukee has all 100 percent 5 star ratings for a reason lol
Thanks for Watching Tyler
At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. Take it how you want.
Thanks for Watching Casey!
As the demand increases for lithium for "Electric" cars so will go the price. Won't be long we will all be headed back to corded tools.
Thanks for Watching David! Interesting thought
C'mon, man!
Thanks for Watching!
Rigid batteries have lifetime warranty. I've replaced multiple times free.
Thanks for Watching!
