A race legend returns to one of the most dangerous treasures of the past, to the Klausenrennen in Switzerland. The silver arrow W25, built in 1934-1936 is the last of its kind and was rebuilt by Mercedes himself.
This model has a power of 354 HP and was formerly driven uphill on a dirt road. The record of then was 15 minutes and 22 seconds.
Rene Asch, who again took the W25 silver arrow in 2013, was able to beat this record, but on a developed and asphalted road. He could drive the distance of about 21.5 km and 136 corners later in a time of under 15 minutes. - Авто та транспорт
THIS is why we need to have Straight 8's back in cars.
loving that sound of a straight eight
In Clarkson's voice "the peace and serenity of this beautiful Swiss morning was disturbed by the bellow of a distressed animal"
The morning was not disturbed, it was filled with one of the most beautiful sounds I have ever heard.
@@mawag Detroit screamin 2 stroke diesel is up there, why don't you give one a listen.
ua-cam.com/video/pQnA6nsgZEo/v-deo.html supercharged 2 stroke diesel v12!
brings a tear to the eye
That was totally insane, what a shame it was such a short video.
I never realised the supercharger makes such a whining noise.
This one does because as I understand it, it blows through the carbs? I'm no engineer but this setup was different than most. What a car. Nazi and all of that shit, but it is one of my favorite cars of all time. So rowdy. And so dangerous. Just... Wow.
@Christopher King -The only thing Nazi connected to this car is their money. The designers, builders and racers were not Nazis.
@@Loulovesspeed von Brauchitsch WAS an active member of the party though...
@@paulcaswell2813 - I read that his Uncle Walther was a Field Marshal and obviously a Nazi, but couldn't find anything stating that Manfred was.
@@Loulovesspeed Elly Rosemeyer (Bernd's widow) related to a story where Bernd, Rudi, and Manfred were chatting in the pits. Hünnlein went up to them and told them to behave like 'true members of the Reich'. The moment his back was turned, Rosemeyer and Caracciola pulled faces and made silly gestures in his direction. Von Brauchitsch looked at his two rivals with distain, and gave the Nazi salute in the direction of Hünnlein...
Ferocious!
Sounds incredible
