Sharing this video with our patrons started an interesting conversation about whether it's appropriate or not to use certain kinds of make-up. We learned that a lot of Viking inspired make-up designs actually come from other cultures such as Native American populations, Inuit and Maori. Some people find the use of this kinds of make-up offensive or disrespectful, if made by people outside of the original culture. Our intent was clearly not to mock anyone nor to make something historically accurate, we just wanted to create an aesthetically impactful video. Lots of love to everyone. - Dave and Joe
Imo your intentions are pretty obvious, some people just want to find a reason to be offended so they can feel like they're a more moral person than you. What do you think the chances are that there was even one actual native American/Inuit or Maori was amongst those "offended"?
Please stop apologizing to the perpetually-offended garbage people that would actually complain about something like this. You're giving them power by even acknowledging their opinions as remotely valid.
The Normans had a hold of a considerable chunk of modern Italy for quite a while there, so they're just harking back to part of their ancestry they don't usually tap. *grins*
Wow, I've been going through all the covers of this song, and this one is the only one that blew me away. The originality, the production quality, the performance quality, the presentation, its all so damn GOOD.
Don't worry about the makeup. If anyone's watched any of your videos, the impression you give is always lighthearted, fun yet sincere. It's clear you love music, community and culture... As far as this song goes I'm impressed with the speed with which you came out with it. Great job, and as always, thank you 😀
The fact they felt they had to put that intro, it's really sad. I've read it thinking it was something serious. Usually when music video starts with a black screen and text, it's because someone died.
I found it weird how many people fail to realize that culture is supposed to be shared among people and if a culture isn't exposed to new people, said culture will eventually die.
To be fair, it’s really only one type of cultural people that don’t want anyone mimicking them. Everyone else is excited to share and happy, if not honored, to see others being inspired by them.
I just wanted to say I love the original song but keep coming back to this excellent cover. Also I’m super impressed at the quality of the production value especially since this appears to have been posted so soon after the release of The original song! You’ve gained another subscriber and fan!

A folk cover of a rock song from a US band sung by Viking Italians whilst wearing Native North American/Inuit/Maori facial decorations and including a modern take on a didgeridoo. I am definitely here for it. 😀
I am not from any of the cultures that could reasonably be offended by the makeup, but i think it's clear enough from the rest of your content, you would not have made something offensive intentionally and it says a lot that you brought it up unprompted just to clarify your intent.

I've always found the discussion around "cultural appropriation" to be extremely pretentious.
culture is meant to be shared and remixed, why else do genre change covers haha

Italian Viking Linkin Park … things you never knew you needed, am I right?
Vicking Park
Agreed:-). This concept should be adapted into a movie, like, yesterday.
The Normans had a hold of a considerable chunk of modern Italy for quite a while there, so they're just harking back to part of their ancestry they don't usually tap. *grins*
They also use didgeridoo which is aboriginal Australian

This song sounds as though the Emptiness Machine is another name for an unloaded trebuchet.
That’s pretty good mate, cheers.
New title: The superior siege machine

Already a cover with music video?!? daaamn! that is fast
What a time to be alive, when artists need to explain and excuse themselfes for their art. Just be free, do whatever you feel. This song is awesome!

Its because they have to in order to avoid that absolute cesspool that is the internet.
They had to put it in to keep the emptiness machine happy.

The chord progressions sound so good in folk song, I wonder how great a bardcore remake would be 😮
Someone contact Hildegaard von Blingin!
Quite excellent! Having Michalina join with her Hurdy Gurdy would've made it even better!
fr man hurdy gurdy is like the most unlikely way to elevate a song every time, i love that buzzy banjo sound
@@PeterDanielBerg never thought of a hurdy gurdy being compared to a buzzy banjo but i love that description

Your blades are sharpened with precision (precision)
Flashing your favorite point of view (point of view)
I know you're waiting in the distance (distance)
Just like you always do, just like you always do
Already pulling me in
Already under my skin
And I know exactly how this ends, I
Let you cut me open just to watch me bleed
Gave up who I am for who you wanted me to be
Don't know why I'm hoping for what I won't receive
Falling for the promise of the emptiness machine
The emptiness machine
Going around like a revolver (like a revolver)
It's been decided how we lose (how we lose)
'Cause there's a fire under the altar (the altar)
I keep on lying to, I keep on lying to
Already pulling me in
Already under my skin

Let you cut me open just to watch me bleed
Gave up who I am for who you wanted me to be
Don't know why I'm hoping for what I won't receive

I only wanted to be part of, part of
I only wanted to be part of something
I only wanted to be part of, part of
I only wanted to be part of something
I only wanted to be part
